Is there any software I can install on WM5 to encrypt folders or create encrpted folders anywhere on the PPC or the storage card that is inserted? Thanx

Hi guys, is it possible to move the default docs folder to the Storage Card?
I mean having everything (video, music, docs, programs settings,etc..) in the card so I can easly synch it and free Ram on my new Jam
Thanks
Not Really.
You can create a directory called "My Documents" on your storage card, and save everything on there. The Operating System will automatically detect the folder and allow you to place documents there.
But there's no way to automatically synchronise your storage card - or have I just misunderstood?
Note: If it looks like the OS isn't using the My Documents on the card properly, check for a 0-byte file called ignore_my_docs and delete it.
You could try super-sync

Virus? memory card won't read...I have no anti-virus software in my XDA2 (silly me? is it important nowadays to have anti virus programms in pocket pcs?) - suddenly my nearly full 1 GB sd apacer memory card wont read any more -
the only thing on it is this: "ignore_my_docs" (when I try to delete this message - it comes back again).
In the device's memory, it shows the memory card as STILL BEING FULL!
1) Is this a virus? Does anyone Know what this is about?
2) should I put an anti virus, firewall type thing into my xda?
3) if so, which is the best one?
4)will it get rid of this virus, (if it is a virus)?
5)will it give me all the information back off my my sd card? Is there a way I can get this information back?
thanks people...
there are only about 5 pocketpc virus's or there about
doubt you have one of them
some walaby roms have been reported to delete the sd card for no reason
normal pc undelete programs can undelete your sd card if placed in a sd card reader
you can use search in this forum for many many many posts about the delete issue
sinse you have a walaby device you can narrow your search down to that forum

Ignore_my_docs - very frustrating
By Ed Hansberry on Wednesday, August 14, 2002
Has anyone noticed an "ignore_my_docs" zero byte file on their storage card or ROM file store? I think this was done in the Pocket PC 2002 OS because people had trouble finding data on their storage card unless they had specifically created a \My Documents\ folder.
So, the Pocket PC 2002 now looks at the storage card when you insert it. If \My Documents\ doesn't exist, it puts a hidden file called "ignore_my_docs" on the card. It also has done this to the HP Safe Store or iPAQ File Store. So, what does it do? Well, Pocket PC 2002 apps see this hidden file and look at the root of the storage card for everything. This can be very annoying if you have a large card with hundreds of files on it in other subfolders. For example, my storage cards always look like this:
\Music\
\My Documents\
\app1\
\app2\
Don't get me started on apps being installed in the root versus under a \Program Files\ folder. That is another rant. Ok, if ignore_my_docs exists, apps like Excel and Word will scan the entire card looking for their files. Prepare to wait if it is a 1GB microdrive that is full. The solution is to create \My Documents\ on the card and delete the hidden ignore_my_docs file. To delete it, either dock your device and use Explorer on the desktop, assuming it is configured to see hidden files, or tap-and-hold in File Explorer on your Pocket PC in the white area below a file listing and select "View All Files." The beauty of this is that Windows Media Player on the Pocket PC 2002 doesn't require music to be in \My Documents\ any longer as it did under the Pocket PC 2000 OS, so all of your music is still readily available.
Edit: The above also applies to Pocket PC 2003 and 2003 SE devices as well as all ROM file stores on any device that allows you to store data there.

yes i have that as well ,but never really knew what it was about
just cleared it up for me as well, as I found this file today and wonderd what it was. Thanks.
After fiddling with a program called REMOVER, I seemed to have lost the ability to see files/directories on the SD card.
ie When I open NOTES, excel etc.., the ALL FOLDERS only show what is on the main memory. I have set the options to save to Storage Card.
When I use file explorer, the files/directories are still on the sd.
Any ideas would be most welcome.
Please don't tell me a hard reset will be needed!
Have you tried removing sd card, soft reset, replace?
I had tried what you mentioned still didn't work. Hard resetted and still didn't pick up the sd card. I then copied the contents of the sd card to my laptop and formatted the card. I then copied the contents back to the sd which still didn't work. Formatted the sd again and loaded the programs back on one by one. Now all OK.
Appears to have been a hicup on the SD card. I'll be keeping an eye on it.
Thanks for the reply. Paul

Any way of sorting this problem without this drastic solution?
I thought it was just a bug in Windows Mobile 5. For example, I loaded a pdf reader and a gameboy emulator on today, and in both cases, from the program you don't see the files on the SD card.... it's infuriating.

Normally the office apps only searches for files in the folder "My Documents" and its sub folders. This can help to reduce the time of searching if the memory contains many files. But it also can confuse users which don't know this and store files in other folders. So MS added a "feature", a zero byte large file named "ignore_my_docs" (without any extension).
If this entry exists in the root directory, the office apps searches in every folder for files but ignore "My Documents" and its sub folders (exacly what the name says).
To "help" "stupid" users which neither know that they should use a folder "My Documents" for the office apps on every storage card nor know the "magic file" Windows automatically creates the entry "ignore_my_docs" when it can't find a folder named "My Documents" in the root directory. But Windows does never automatically removes this entry when a new folder named "My Documents" is created (in the root directory).
So try to delete an existing "ignore_my_docs" entry (if you use "My Documents") or create it if there is none (if you store the files elsewhere and) if you cant see existing files under ALL FOLDERS.
Hope that helps some people
JH
PS: If this was the reason for the invisible files than no reset will help (remember it's a feature of windows, not a bug  ) but reformat can help (to get rid of an unnecessary entry).
I'd like to save my new docs into the 'My Documents' folder of Storage Card automatically in order to save space in main (RAM) memory. I know it seems to be easy, just go to 'Options' and set 'Save to' Storage Card. I've done it in case of every frequently used program.
Camera and Excel works well, they place the new file into 'Storage Card\My Documents\My Pictures' and 'Storage Card\My Documents'. But Pocket Word and Notes place the new file just into Storage Card root dir.
Any hint how to solve it? Maybe some registry settings?
Thanks in advance
Tibor
(I posted the same message to Magician forum earlier since I have Magician but no answer came so far. - Maybe here...)
Solution
As it was my first request for assistance I thought the community was more helpful...
But no problem, finally I found the solution. (source: support.microsoft. com, article ID: 319616)
Let ME help if somebody has similar problem: you should delete the zero-byte-long 'ignore_my_docs' file from the root dir of Storage Card. This file prevents the built-in applications from using 'My Documents' dir as default/root folder while listing the files in 'Open File' window.
(If you need further explanation, refer to the above-mentioned Knowledge Base article.)
Cheers,
Tibor
Storage Card is a SD card and to save power it's disabled while the pda is off
many applications which run even when the device is off
use my doc dir
if it was located on a unavailable location like the SD card it would cause issues with the device
It's actually Q319516
Hi
I am using WM6 on my XDA Orbit and would like all documents that I create saved to my SDHC card to save space on the phone memory.
I notice that it is possible to have a My Documents folder on the phone and the Storage card. Is it possible to make a registry change to just use the one on the Storage Card? Further - I would like to be "tidy" and store the various types of docs in Sub folders under My Documents on the Storage Card.
How do I go about achieving this?
Can someone please explain or point me in the direction of some documentation as to how the My Documents system is supposed to work on WM6 as I am a bit confused as to how to organise my user generated content.
Thanks in advance
Gary
