Clarification of ROM Upgrading

Hi,
I am expecting my German XDA in the mail in the next few days.
I have been reading this forum for the past 2 weeks, and have tried to wade through all the great advice to educate myself on ROM upgrading issues. I would like to clarify that I understand this properly.
As I understand, in order to render my new XDA "O2-free" and customizable, not to mention english, I need to install a new ROM - probably the latest Imate ROM or maybe the PDAMobiz ROM.
Before I do this, should I Unlock the CID? From my reding, this will allow me to the install any ROM.
Is this an accurate understanding of everything involved?
Are there other better options to achieve my goal of a non-branded non-operator specific Jamin/Neo?
Is there a way to save my original German O2 ROM if it became necessary to return the unit for service?
I hope people do not object to thsi post. I know that it can be irritating when newbies post on topics which have already been discussed thoroughly. I have spent at least 2 weeks trying to educate myself on the procedures, and really would just like if some knowledgeable contributor could reassure me that I have not missed something obviuos.

I tried to follow the steps as outlined, but when I get to teh first soft reset, the device locks, and I can do nothing with it!
Please tell me how to fix it. Can I use bootloader?

I entered bootloader then used the Dopod ROM with the modified romupdateutility.
I have not tried anything else.
Does anyone know of a solution for us SPL 2.15.0001 users? We seem to be very restricted in options.

I just upgradet to the new dopod wwe one. No probs at all with my XDA Neo. Its just 5 days old, so no CDI-unlockin needed Then I also took the O2 bootscreen again, and it works...still :wink:

I just upgradet to the new dopod wwe one. No probs at all with my XDA Neo. Its just 5 days old, so no CDI-unlockin needed Then I also took the O2 bootscreen again, and it works...still :wink:

Yes, you have to go to ftp.clubimate.com there you can find the JAMin ROM's and also you can choose the language you want.
As you know, first, you must CID unlock, then you can download your favorite ROM. Tell us your opinon after install it.

Flashing Dutch Orange SPV M600 to English

Hello there.
I have a Dutch M600 (all the text is in Dutch) and it is quite, well, cumbersome. Is it possible to reflash it with some default (non-branded) let's say QTek S200 English ROM? I'm quite new to this and I do not know if the fact it was sold as custom-branded will make any problems.
If it is possible, give me some pointers (thread links, etc.) I searched but I didn't find this specific case to be touched. Thanks in advance.

From what I understand the M600 is just a HTC Prophet, so yes you can flash a standard Qtek s200 WWE like this (the last official Qtek release) ftp://xda:[email protected]_S200_2.20.7.34_2.47.21_2.20.7.114_WWE.zip
As you're going from dutch to english you need to use the novendor romupdate utility ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Prophet/Tools/ROMUpdateUtility-NoVendorID.zip or another option is to CID unlock your M600 (for now only possible on G3 devices) It's all pretty simple, use search and read the forum and it will get you there.
In case of doubts, just ask, succes marl

Your answer is exactly what I was hoping for. Until now I'm using M500 and because it has WWE F/W i wasn't interested in all these technical terms. Could you tell me what does it mean CID, AKU, and the other abbreviations that one can see here on the forum? How can I discover whether my Prophet is G3 or G4?

CID= Country ID (basicly it's prrotection so you can't use other firmware then the one your provider supplied) G3 device can be CID unlocked easly, G4 devices not. Check the last digits your bootscreen, if you see x.xx.000 it's G3, if you see x.xx.001 it's G4)
AKU= Adaption Kit Upgrade= Upgrades to the OS, provides fixes and new features (Like pushmail for example). Check out this URL http://www.mobile-review.com/pda/articles/wm-aku-en.shtml

CID unlocked devices you can backup to SD using terminal software over USB, use search on the forum. CID locked devices are a different story, but the XDA ftp contains most orginal vendor firmware. Most of the time restoring is not really an issue. Keep in mind that you can not downgrade IPL/SPL once you upgrade. You can downgrade the Extrom, OS and Radio without touching the IPL/SPL so this is normaly no issue.

Flash ROM for Prophet

Hello people.
Yesterday i tried to upgrade my i-mate JAMin to WM6 but i couldn't do it.
anyway, because i couldn't upgrade it to WM6, after i upgrade to 2.40 WWE when i arrived at home i've tryed to upgrade to 2.13_Portuguese_ROM...
Here was when the problem started.
When updrade started, at 1% the problem ocurred... message ERROR.
From what i've read I need a flash ROM, I'm desperate...
Can any one help to find the flash ROM and how to recover my PPC?

please give your IPL SPL (G3 or G4), what error message?

Again, would people please read through the forum carefully before starting a new thread and ask the same questions over and over again. It is not that I am mean (just getting old), because any new thread will take time to read. Why not the person who need answer to read first and save other people's time. I found this forum contains so much information that most problems people generally ask are well covered one way or the other.

Starting to answering your questions:
- My i-mate is G3
-  ERROR [320~328] : INVALID COMMAND
These errors seldom occur. However, if one of these errors occur, it could not be recovered and the device had to be sent back to the customer service center. In this case, you have to flash a new ROM code.
About the ROM 2.40..., i'm confused and since i can't read my i-mate i don't know the correct version but it was downloaded here in this forum.

look for RUU_Prophet_220734_2207114_024721_NVID.exe you can find it here
then unlock CID see the WIKI how to
and then install any ROM you want

Can any one put it on working?

Right now my i-mate is Cid Unlocked and working with WM6 Prophet_4.0.0.0.3_PV just fine.
I´m Going to try and explore this (Beautifull) Rom and post my feedback.

As I said before, the feedback for this rom is just... GREAT.
Better than this only if it was in Portuguese (for me, off Corse), because in these rom theres no Portuguese GPRS configurations.

and i forgott to say that i cant install the cert.cab it just say instalation was unsuccessful the program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permissions

You need to remove MS application lock. Search forum for more information.

i have don it but when i waant to unlock it it just say the phone is unlockable and then when i want to install cert to supercid my phone i can`t iinstall it.

Have you tried SDA_Application Unlock ?

i have sould the problem no i have wm6 on my qtek 8310

How did you solved it? Cause i am getting the same problem, as you. Cant unlock, tried with regeditSTG, but it doesnt works, because i cant install regedit.exe, because of the lack of the rights..
Also my trying to unlock my qtek 8310 with "sda application unlock" was unsuccesful. "phone is not unlockable".. by the way, my phone is with ORANGE's software. Hope to get some answers.

I've Seen this website that claims to have a windows mobile 6 for htc magician
The website is in arabic language
They also said that the has been cooked with some kitchen !!!!
I didn't know how to install the rom because it has been archived into 2 parts.

it didnt even analyze my phone couldnt detect it at all, and if what these other people say is true then it again is pointless, but one day a programmer will recompile a WM6 for the magician one way or another, its NOT impossible as others might think

It might not be impossible to be done, but it isn't very likely that anyone would be interested in doing it.

Don't use these ROMS on your Magician. You'll definately 'brick' it.
Prophet ROMs, will work on a Charmer, but will 'brick' your Magician (different addressible registers).
