Which one is the best WM6 Rom for Wizard ? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

I did not test WM6 yet on my Wizard, but I would like to have your opinion to know which one is best Rom WM6 ?
Thank you

always, next one
i`ll go with X-plore...

See my signiture!!!!

Depends on what you want. Faria's "the real thing" seems very good and comes with apps and will configure itself for your network (GPRS). But there does seem to be some issues with it for some people. You'll have to read through the thread to see if / how that might work for you.
NotTooSmart's Vanilla, and XPlore 1.1 are both based off the mUn aRTM rom. These are both very fast and very lean (vanilla) roms. This is what I personally like (I'll add on the apps that I need/want). Both of them have their pluses. I ran on NotTooSmart's for over a week with pretty much no problems at all. I switched to XPlore 1.1 to try it out and compare to see how it differs. For me there is almost no difference between the two, other than XPlore may be a little cleaner. I have had a couple of lockups when using WiFi and Opera on XPlore (never had that on NotTooSmart's but then I really didn't use Opera much on it, but did use WiFi a lot). I'd call them a coin toss, but lean towards the Xplore one just because the rom cooker is so active on the forums (NotTooSmart was too and thats why I moved to his from Faria's, but he's since received a promotion at work, and not as available now).
The older WM6 ROMs are also good, but require more tweaking to get them up and running fairly stable. I liked MBE before these latest ones, but it took a lot of tweaking to get it to where I'd call it stable (and I never got WiFi to work reliably with it).
Good luck. Dig and read, and then jump in.

Man I see alot of people with the same signatures lately.....Maybe more people need to go Xplore... lol

Xplore 1.1 is the best
I almost tried every ROM released until now, for me the best is Xplore 1.1 i faced some problems with WIFI but i found that 3rd party Apps is causing this issue except this the ROM is Great, for Faria ROM it is also great but it have a problem in Battery Drain, in the Xplore ROM you will never face this issue ......

I have found the WM6 MB is the best out of the box. No Mods Needed.

Have you found out which app is causing the issue with Wifi?

I installed Resco Keyboard app, and after that Spb mobile shell; after that i have issues with Wifi, so i un installed the resco app only and after that i did not face that problem, and i think spb shell is causing some freezing issues; i also modified these registry files :
HKLM\Comm\Tnetwln1\Parms\HTCPreloadstatus --> 1
HKLM\Comm\Tnetwln1\Parms\HTCPreloadwifi -->1
but i think the cause of the problem is 3rd apps, for u to test it, hardreset then try wifi if it works then install apps one by one after each app installation reset ur ppc and test ur wifi, this is the only way to know the cause of the problem.

This Might Interest People - Especially MY Dear Friend ThingOnASpring!
I have been testing master Lt.Cmdr.Ivan latest ROM v3 for a long time, which is evident from my signature. The ROM is very stable!
When master ThingOnASpring came out with his latest ROM, I thought to give it a try. Especially, the ROM had build in HTC Home today plugin.
I found this ROM of master ThingOnASpring to be very unstable with lots of crashes and freeze ups. The freeze ups were like in olden days and when someone called, the Universal hanged up.
So, I went back to master Lt.Cmdr.Ivan ROM again. Since I like HTC Home today plugin, the first thing I did, was to install this plugin.
Guess What?
The ROM was not stable anymore!
It had lots of crashes and freeze ups. The freeze ups were like in olden days and when someone called, the Universal hanged up.
So, I did a hard reset and didn't install the HTC Home today plugin, the ROM is now working flawlessly and stable just like before!
Go figure!
KOR!
Thx,
Good to know, I'll cook the ROM without the HTC Home , which anyway I wanted to swap by rltoday!
Cheers
Depends which one you use, I suppose...
Ever since the homeplug came out I've been using it and I had some problems with the early versions. However I kept this version which seems to be stable it doesn't freeze the phone and works very well. The only problem I've found with it is that if you set the phone to vibrate using the homeplug it sometimes loses your default ringtone...
So give it a try and see what you think. You might need to have a look at Maimach's fix for the homeplug but as always once you do this it might affect the stability.

Thanks a lot. Will surely give it a try. I did try master Maimach's fix for the HTC Home plugin.
I have already downloaded your plugin!
I see you are still using master N. N. Coung's ROM, like me. It is one of the greatest ROM!
Thanks again,

Search for "HTC Home VGA - 6 Tabs !NEW!" on the first page of this thread. Thanks teixeirabmb, for letting us know about it. I'm running it on my Exec. Fonts look a little bit small, but still readable. Hope it helps...

is anyone having crashing with incoming calls with the htc home plugin??? i have installed a number of versions but cannot seem to get any to work without crashing my uni when someone calls me!!
in my case, universal freezing upon receiving calls happens whatever HTC Home Today plugin version is installed.
i haven't found a solution yet other than uninstalling the HTC Home, but you can try a temporary solution: remove the SD card from the slot & i can now receive calls without freezing.
can anybody having the same freezing problem confirm this?

Well, as I posted yesterday, I'm running the HTC Home Today plugin posted by teixierabmb (links provided there) on my Exec, flashed with Ivan's v3.9 ROM. I keep my 8GB SDHC card inserted all the time, and I simply don't experience any freezes with incoming calls at all.

As far as I know, Jason's latest ROM had problems to properly handle SDHC cards. So, the SD drivers might really be vilains there...

hi drsqueggy,
do you mean confirmed that removing SD Card temporarily solved freezing problem?
i'm trying to figure out if its a registry hack related to SD (i.e. PIE cache to SD), the SD type & speed (tried MMC but freezes too), or what?
by the way my uni is a vodafone V1640.
I've tried the 2 SD drivers that come with the latest nncuong's rom, but the phone still froze intermitterntly on incoming calls (and keeps vibrating).
I won't uninstall htc home, coz i'm going to miss it.
Rant follows, please read it and check if you share my views about the question: -----------------
I'm beginning to think the Universal is flawed inside in its hardware, and nothing can be done for it.
With the universal, we have a slower WM6 than the competition, and a load of bugs that are still there from the veyr beginning. My Uni already froze a lot of times without reason, for example when I closed TCPMP, or when I opened the control panel. It seems like old bugs sometimes resuscitate from the grave
I miss the ability of other phones (and other PDA's too) to wake up and starrt to ring INSTANTLY when a call comes in, and not after 2 or 3 seconds.
And also that pause when you answer a call, where the other end doesn't hear you but you can hear him, is very bugging.
Let's face it: the Uni is not well engineered, either, as there are some components in the system that act like bottlenecks. Sure, SKTools benchmark give the Uni its say, but the truth is not that. Try installing a CAB file on the Uni and the same cab file on an HTC Touch. Guess what, the touch does it in 1/4 the time of the Uni. And guess what, the Touch's processor is the old ****ty omap 850 (a seriously-underpowered 200 mhz processor!). How could this be possible???
But the worst part of the history, is that every rom released only adds its bugs to the pile. I think they (the cookers) should unite and make some serious information-sharing, trouble-shooting and rom-releasing work together.
Heck, admit it, every now & there a rom comes out that use a "new extraordinary revolutionary mega-fast driver", only to discover, days later, that this driver is only mega-unstable and that it had already been tried months before.
I didn't have all those problems with my old Tornado's WM6 hack... they (the cookers) released a WM6 rom, and it worked flawlessy at first chance, way better than the original WM5.

Why would you upgrade to WM6.1 from 5?

Hey guys,
I am trying my best not to upgrade to WM6.1 on my SP5..
I love my phone with its factory OS.. Though i am curious to what i am missing out on by staying with WM5.
Can someone give me some advantages of WM6.1 over WM5?
And if i was to upgrade.. Do any of these cooked up versions just install and run without any further tweaking?
Thanks for your input
Hi there,
Please proceed to my blog for step by step instruction
http://karhoe.net/htctornado
Why upgrade to WM6.1?
1) Faster
2) Alot of useless stuff removed
3) Running Net compact framework 2.0/3.5
4) More functions
5) GUI improved
6) Windows Mobile (old one) removed savings extra 4-5MB, so now you can install the latest Windows Live Mobile which has more features as well
7) and many more....
Just go to my blog, follow the steps precisely, and it will work flawlessly.
wow you have me convinced
thanks very much.. especially like the fact you have the same phone as me too!
oh hang on..
the upgrade will work flawlessy? or the OS will?
like Wifi, bluetooth etc all ok?
Everything is perfect, WiFi, BT, etc
But there are some minor bugs, which won't really affect you, you have to check the thread of the cooked ROM.
I suggest this ROM, and the thread is here

Hi
I cannot get any version of wm live to run on your rom Karhoe (wm6.1 platinum). Tried the one on your website too. HELP!

whats threaded messaging?
Means SMS is like chatting style
well i did the upgrade about a month ago..
i love the sliding panel theme.. though i cant handle the issue with syncing on 2 PCs not working and the issue with dismissing reminders..
I think im going back to the original ROM.
Or would i have more luck with WM6.0?
Karhoe can you recommend a WM6.0 rom and/or a better WM5 ROM than the original i-mate one?
I take it since my phone is now supercid i can just flash away as normal without bothering with formatting the BINFS?
Thanks again for your help.

sigh.. looks like its back to WM5...

It looks like you need to purge outlook on your PC mate. You must have multiple entries for same apointment. I've had a similar problem every now and then, where Outlook fails or I did a Sync on another pc, and when back to main PC, it screws up outlook. Have had to go and view all apointments, birthdays, etc and clean it up manually.
Also, review how you have your settings, ie "Show 2 weeks" if more than that and you have lots of apointments, it'll go crazy on u.
I've used Nitros Platinum Rom for ever and it works great. Am using now SGreg's Rose Rom, also working good(but w/o the extras on Nitros).
Good Luck!
how much better than 6.0
I flashed up to 6.0 when I first got my 2125, am running WM6 standard CE OS 5.2.1616 build 18120.0.4.0, radio 4.1.13.28_02.61.01 RIL 2.002.
I am relatively happy with speed, and all the apps I installed, etc. I am thrilled with the stability and versatility (phone is also my mp3 and movie player, camera, video recorder, messaging system, etc.).
I have heard rumors that the 6.1 ROM drains the battery faster. True?
I have heard rumors that some bluetooth stuff is not as stable?
The reasons I might upgrade include the fact that some software I put on the phone did not completely uninstall and the ROM I am running has very many features I do not want or use and they clutter up everything .
What is the consensus? Is it worth flashing up again?
looks like it was the time sync from network causing the issue.. turned it off now they dismiss without issue!
also i kinda like 6.0 more than 6.1 didnt like the threaded msging and the way you compose in 6.1
the only way I see 6.1 draining the battery faster than 6 on my phone is that 6.1's Media Player doesn't turn off the screen light while playing music. Other than that, I haven't noticed a battery drain.
flashing up to 6.1 from 6.0
Thanks. Which 6.1 "clean" distro should I use? I have collected the .CABs and don't mind re-layering all the apps I use. I would also love to be able to completely uninstall Windows Media player since I run CORE (TCPMP).

I'm not trying to start anything with anybody, but saw this post and have seen it in my threads before.
I know how it feels to spend countless hours cooking and then getting one of theses.
Folks,
This is one of the main reason why I'm retiring after my current release.
Every cook spends a lot of their personal time creating a rom for users to enjoy.
There is no perfect rom, creating or wanting to create a perfect rom is like a pipe dream.
After seven releases I still have not been able to create the perfect rom.
Every rom has issues, but as long as the developer is working on fixing it, we the users should give them some time.
Let them know what's wrong with their rom and let them resolve the issues.
If for some strange reason they are not willing to fix it then making comments of this nature would make sense.
Main point,
Try the roms, post your review, but please try to use words other than worthless.
Thanks,

Agreed with tony. Cooking isn't an easy job and I know this. Just to master the porting and some basic skills, you need quite sometimes. Then every build has their own issues. We should appricate someone cooked a rom for us because it take alot of work and time (for free). As long as he the cook providing support, it's should be ok. Otherwise, don't use the rom.

Thanks
That was actualy what I tought when reading the post "why botter cooking"
I bought my herald only so I could use it for cooking.. this is my hobby and I cook for 5 other devices too and the main purpose of this rom is to show that all of the apps from Opal can work on other devices.
I don't want to retire from cooking but it might happen if there is no need for my roms.
but I wan't let this coment stop me because I know there are problems and always will be bugs.
even M$ and HTC are to blame for some of the bugs (sometimes all the bugs)

I've been using ttran's OTP7 series roms, so that explains the splash screen.
BTW - I'm loving some aspects of this ROM. The HTC YouTube is so much nicer than the YouTubePlayer that I had installed before. And the Opera browser - although a bit much for the Herald to handle - is pretty sweet too. HTC YouTube even plays pretty well over T-Mo's Edge network.
Question - do you need to have the Opera browser installed to get HTC YouTube to work? Or would it work with OperaMini as the browser? Just curious.
I gotta say, sometimes the phone gets real slow and laggy and I have to soft reset. Also I get a Windows Media unknown error 0x8000FFFF when I try to play a video taken with the phone camera (while in the viewer).

MS 3.5
There's more replies complaining than actually responding to the question. I used mobile shell for about a year when I had an incite. I got quite use to it and thought that when I got my pure it would be the first thing I'd install. Problem was though is that I ended up falling in love with touchflo. Now, after running touchflo 2.5 with max manila, I tried mobile shell 3.5 again for a couple days and ended up uninstalling it. I will say this though, touchflo is a memory hog. With touchflo running, I have about 75MB free but with MS, I have just a bit over 100. Scrolling in MS is super smooth (all of their new apps are). I just couldn't get MS to give me the same look and functionality I have with my current setup. I also have become quite frustrated with SPB's, ummm, lack of support. For sure it's something that is a viable alternative to touchflo and for me at least, much better than titanium. If nothing else, give it a try. It's a 30 day free trial. I personally would recommend backing up b4 installing and then if you decide you don't like it, restore back from backup instead of just uninstalling. Good luck though in whatever you decide.
I've used spb mobile shell from time to time.. and now that I've found a music player that works with my rc e100 headset I think I'll be going back to it now. Love how you can customize it more than you can with TF.
It works like a charm for me, but there are a few things I lack.. ability to add or create your own addons (least I haven't found anything about it, yet).
I use MS for quite some time, before update to WM 6.5 - Sence 2.1.
I think Sbp MS is great, or was great, because now I just love Manila animations, and so I'm stucked on it.
Anyway, I think you should try it. More, there are a lot of "skins" you can apply... look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566045
There's a lot to look for !!! - And I think it worth some time reading.
Sbp with MrSkip Widgets, for example, is a very good combination.
Good luck.
I was a big MS fan back when I had my BA, which it could actually run perfectly, unlike Touchflo. Now I use second today so I can run both, but have almost no free RAM
i just began to test it, and because i to currently not use internet with My D2 i couldn't use the full utilities of tf3d, even tf3d was one of the reasons i bought d2. But now I like MS3.5 More than that because it can be More personalized...
So I will see what I think in some weeks..
Thanks a lot for your helps...
When there are some More opinions please let Me know..
OK.
Don't forget the MrSkip Widgets.
Are great.

Most stable rom

Hey guys
Ok so im up for upgrading my p4350's rom but id like to use the phone on a day to day basis. Can anyone please tell me what the most stable rom currently is. Another thing, i dont want useless apps ill rarely use.
Been looking at roms by gullum and aserg and they look good but i want to know from people who have tested alot of roms in the past. As this is my first (and hopefully) only time i will be flashing i want to make sure i get it right
Thnx
RuDz
Flashing by SD Card or are you plan on using the RomUpdateUtility?
Also, please make sure you are HardSPL'd..
I tried many roms, but none of them can shut them down.
Who can tell me how to shut it down. not sleep
An one thing is how to turn vibration of when I touch OK or win button on the screen.

Hi thanx for the swift reply
Im planning on flashing via the USB cable. I am going to hardSPL as soon as i now for sure there is a stable rom out there that i can use.
Ive downloaded thanhy25's Clear Rom Win 6.5.1 Build 23071 - V2 and im thinking of installing soon. Good idea? bad idea?
another problem is that my ipl is only 1.02.xxx but as far as i know i can upgrade it to 4.xxx yang or something the like.
Any suggestions?
I'm looking for the exact same thing. The lack of space has been driving me crazy, I'm constantly at around 1MB and the only thing that's installed are some Spb applications. I'm looking for something very stable because I don't want to flash it all the time (I hope I'll have to do it just this once - I want to minimize the risk of destroying it, I don't have the money for a new one ). It currently has Windows 6.0, SE CE 5.2.1238 (Build 17745.0.2.3) and I can't remember the last time I had to soft reset it or had any trouble with it, besides the low memory. I'd like to find a stable ROM with enough free memory, but not completely without programs.
The things I mostly use are phone and messages of course, email, office, alarms and timers, camera, IE, WiFi and Bluetooth, weather forecast, ActiveSync, WM5torage, pdf reader, Total commander, Google maps, MSN Messenger... I'd also like to find something like Spb stuff to make it more practical to use, and to be able to play audio and video files, some other browser besides IE would be nice, gmail client, IM client that would work with both MSN and gTalk (I used Talkonaut at one time), to install games without problems (to have .NET framework, Java, Flash and such)... Some nice skin would be nice, but all in all I'd rather have stability than good looks. Is there a ROM that would be similar to this? What version of Windows would you recommend, 6.1, 6.5?
How complicated would it be for me to cook my own ROM? Is it worth learning the process just to make this one custom ROM? Also, is there an emulator which I can use to try out different ROMs before flashing them to my device?
Sorry for the huge post

Try JustStablev2b5micro. It gives you almoust 30MB free Ram. I use it with SPBMS 3.5.3 and I have around 22-24 MB free memory. But you must be HSPL I think.
HardSPL isnt an issue. I prefer it inface because i wannt to permanently flash the phone with a new rom.
Uhm what is SPBMS 3.5.3?? Sorry im a noob when it comes to this
Any idea where i could find this JustStablev2b5micro
Thanx alot
So far my fav is the TribU2U Version 3 w/Titanium [Build 28232] - Although I turn off the titanium interface and run the basic homescreen with my fav apps.
Having the new WM 6.5 interface is much better then old 6.0 look and feel.
I think that with any ROM you have (custom or official) you need to softreset about once every couple weeks... just to keep it running smooth.

Hey, izzy, try my newest ROMs out. I think you'll like them. And don't worry, if you don't like them I have that other ROM on file still.
Link to this rom?? =D
I'll give it shot tomorrow morning.
