USB Problems - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

My 8125 no longer connects via USB. XP tries to install "Smartphone USB Sync" where I get a message that the software has not passed Windows Logo testing, I click to continue anyway. Next is an error message that the hardware could not be installed because the system cannot find the file specified.
Can someone help?

Not sure the reason, but sounds like ActiveSync installation is corrupted. You could install AC. That should restore all the files / registry entries...

This is happening even after reinstalling ActiveSync 4.5 several times.
Please I hope someone knows a solution for this..?

Faria WM6
Win XP
ActiveSync 4.5

hmmm....tried a hard reset? or another usb cable?

Have you tried using a different PC. The idea here is you need to determine if its the PC, the cable, or your phone... So try to narrow this down to where the problem lies.
Also make sure you are using a USB port that is direct to the mother board and not going through a hub. Some USB ports on the front of a PC go through a USB hub that is internal. Use the ports on the back of the computer (and try this on different ports).

I did try a hard reset, and different USB port. I still get the same error. I think its a problem with the USB driver? I have had ActiveSync working on this machine before. I uninstalled it. Then reinstalled it to perform an upgrade, but am having this problem. I don't have access to another PC.
While XP tries to install the USB drivers I did try manually choosing where to find the drivers, in the ActiveSync directory. I get the same error.

Uninstall Activesync through add/remove programs, then go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync, delete the whole folder on your desktop pc....download 4.5 from microsoft's website....install it, then plug your device back in.....see if that helps......

Also, see what antivirus/firewall you're using. That caused me a little problem first time I installed it.

Thats why I run all my antivirus and firewall stuff off the router, ActiveStink is too buggy with other softwares.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I had already tried deleting the c:\program files\microsoft activesync" folder before installing 4.5 fresh again. It didn't help.
Just to test, I installed ActiveSync 4.2, knowing I cannot use it with WM6. But it installed fine and XP recognized and installed the 8125 perfectly. I was able to access the phone via WM5torage and everything (except no sync, as expected).
Then I uninstalled 4.2 and reinstalled 4.5 clean again. 4.5 installation "updates" the USB drivers everytime. After, the 8125 will not connect via USB with the same error message everytime.

Did you try google'ing the error message?

Start all over.....
Uninstall what you have > delete the old folder > run Regseeker (you can google it and clean your registry safely..I've used this program for several years now without issue. If you have a HP printer..don't run!) > Re-install 4.2 and don't sync your device yet > Install 4.5 over 4.2 & you should be fine.
If Activesync 4.5 doesn't attach itself to a Com Port..open up Connection Settings in Activesync and uncheck "use the following ports" and try to sync.
I'm currently having similar issues on 2 pc's after I installed Radmin 3.0.
If you still have this issue, search for 4.5 beta & install it.
Conspiracy Theory: The final version of Activesync 4.5 is checking our versions of WM6 and don't like it. It's disconnecting the Com Ports from Activesync so we can't use it any more.

it is the usb drivers causeing the problems, i had to go around and just select the c/windows/drivers folder -just the normal drivers, not active sync-
somehow it goes thru for me with a different driver that isn't what is needed

Window Mobile Device Center Problem...I need Your Help!!!

Dear All
I have a very strange problem here...i was using the Jwright WM6 rom till this morning with no sccuess in getting it to connect to my Vista laptop by all means...the only thing i could do is to connect to my desktop pc which has Windows XP & it connects succefully...so i thaught it's something related to the crossbow not being compatible with vista WMDC
Till this morning a friend came to me with his Universal running Jwright 1.90.96 WM5 to install a program so i connected to the Vista WMDC & it worked like a charm...so i downgraded mine to the same WM5 version he is running & i was shocked when it didn't connect & kept trying to connect till it gave me red error sign with no explanation
I used the same USB port, the same original cable on the same laptop under the same windows user...
Any explanation for that????!!!
I really need to sync with my vista laptop as it's my main PC at both work & home...
Thanks All
Have you updated WMDC from beta3, coz that has sorted alot of problems. If yes, try creating another user account, or try logging in as an admin, and connect wm device from there.
otherwise, REINSTALL VISTA, sorry to tell you that, but this is the easiest and the quickest way some times. and i mean it...
What kind of built of Vista are you running?

this morning i tried to remove & reinstall the WMDC but still nothing changed..i hope that i won't be forced to reinstall Vista again as this is a very painful option to me after the mass amount of programs i have installed!!!

Need Getting Started CD

OK, a search on this gave me everything so I have to start this thread asking for a copy of the Getting Started CD. Sorry if it's already been discussed.
I can't get my pda to sync via usb. I deselect the "Enable advanced network functionality" and it still doesn't connect. Can someone post it or does anyone know where I can download one online? I'm hoping it has the correct drivers (Vista 64).
For vista you don't need the getting started CD... only the Windows Mobile Device center installed... also after the initial connection the Windows update should download it autimatically.

That's what all the instructions seem to say. I've uninstalled the existing devices, connected, installed, disconnect, uninstalled the device, install, etc and I still cannot get my pda to connect via usb. Can't seem to figure it out.
Check if activesync (on the PDA) connection settings... It should be set to connect via USB... Also you can download the WMDC from the M$ site...

Yeap, did them both. To get USB as a cradle connection option in ActiveSync in the PDA, I have to select the "Enable advanced network functionality". However, if I do this, I cannot make a connection. I remember when I had my HTC TC, I had to deselect the "Enable advanced network functionality" in order to sync via USB. But when you do this, you don't get the option to sync via USB when cradled.
I think I'm missing the USB modem driver. I'm found the zip file but I'm still looking for installation instructions.
And I think you should reinstall your OS, because there are some serious issues on your side...

OS meaning PDA OS? I did that 3 times, twice with cooked WM6.1 and once back to WM2003. I was able to establish connection with my factory WM2003.
nah... I ment the Vista (did I mention a hard reset anywhere?)... in my school, we have several verisons (ultimate, business,...), i386, x64 alike and we didn't have any problems like the one you described...
Worth a try...
Try download and manually (instead of through Windows Update) the Windows Mobile Device Center v6.1 update for x64 versions of Vista.

Yeap, did that too. Thanks though, it's appreciated.
I wonder if it's my firewall settings. Time to explore that option. I remember the old ActiveSync sometimes required manual fixes to the firewall.
Guys - I'm going to end this thread because I guess the thread title doesn't accurately identifies my issue and I don't want to double post elsewhere.

Driver issues

Whenever I try to flash HadSPL Windows pops up saying it's installing some driver and then says it has finished installing and the hardware is ready to be used, but then the progress bar just sits at 0%, I believe this has to do with the driver on my system for when my Kaiser is in flash mode, can anyone point me to the correct driver?

As long as the correct version of ActiveSync/WMDC (depending on your OS) is installed, Windows will have the required drivers for "HTC USB SYNC" or however it shows up in device manager.
I have ActiveSync 4.5 installed on Windows XP, I've tried uninstalling, re-installing, re-starting, uninstalling drivers, re-booting, the whole shebang, but my device still just sits at 0% when flashing.

Which version of JumpSPL/SSPL are you using? Also, try a different USB port.
Did you perform step 6 in the instructions on the second post
6. Right-click activesync, go into connection settings and ensure Allow USB Connections is unchecked
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396922
I exactly know the problem and the solution
While flashing remove all other USB devices(e.g. external harddrive, flashdrive) remove all USB devices other than your kaiser.
Hope that helps,
Regards
this might help in some cases if it was power issue..but in the case descibed in this thread i will agree that our friend must try different usb (the one at the back of your notebook/pc) not at side or front, use the one fed from motherboard...
also try to
uninstall and reinstall active sync
put your device on bootloader and plug usb (install the driver)
perform hardspl
perform flashing
best luck

Access mem card through USB connect

This must have been covered before but search does not seem to be working for me here.
I want to access the mem card in my Fuze (stock ROM) on my work PC but it needs to load a driver for the new USB device it detects. I do NOT want to install ActiveSync on the machine, only the driver that will allow the USB connection to work in Disk Drive mode.
Anyone know what file and where I could find it would allow this connection to work?
Installing applications is prohibited by company policy and installing ActiveSync would be detected. Installing a USB driver would not be.
Anyone?

What OS are you using? Windows 2000 and definitely XP and Vista are plug and play. I'm using XP and the driver is here:
c:\Windows\system32\drivers\USBSTOR.SYS
If that driver isn't on your system, have you tried using the "Found New Hardware" wizard to connect to microsoft to automatically download the driver for you?

XP. The driver is not found by the wizard. I have had this on other systems before.
It is installed during the ActiveSync install. If you uninstall ActiveSync the driver is left behind and will still function but corporate policy has gotten strict on unapproved installs and traces are always left behind even after uninstall.
I will look on my home device for the file and see if I can move it to my work PC and get it working.
Thanks.

what os?
try a new cable, or try plugging the cable into a different usb port.
i got the same problem. my pc:
Windows 7 with windows device center.
can not recognise my device.
i plug in the touch pro. i get the message to choos active sync diskdrive or share my internet.
i choose active sync.
then nothing happens in device center.
tried uninstalling rndis. after restart it installes the phone again and then it works for 1 time only. after that its the same.
i have searched forums saying that uninstalling device center does not solve the problem. also they say downloading the version on the MC site is another version that Windows 7 is shipped with.
Need help, wanna install another rom. i do have another pc, but i wished it would work on this pc.
any help would be very appreciated.
EDIT 24-10-2009
Also got this message at the properties of Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter:
This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)
Hope that this could help me in some way

Settings-->Connections-->USB to PC and Uncheck Enable faster data Synchronization
I have the same problem.
in my situation i tried to recover usb-flash and flash a nokia phone. For both things programs installed their own drivers. Even after I deinstalled the software I probably still have their drivers on my pc. That's why I can't sync my phone...
is there a tool to manage installed drivers?
or the other way out is to reinstall windows 7
anyone willing to help?
This solution worked for me:
Thanks to Scubamike
copy and paste from
http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/...c/thread/7a6516e2-9a46-4e1f-b689-1aa7dc2bda64
I found a different solution that worked for me: On my phone I clicked start/programs/active sync/options and deleted all the old PC connections that were displayed. In fact, you could probably just delete ALL the PC connections displayed and start from scratch. You'll just have set up another sync partnership in WMDC when you plug it in. Let me know if this helps.
it is to easy! should work ALWAYS:
Make sure "Advanced network functionality" is switched off in the USB to PC settings then:
go to activesync, menu, connections, disable "connect via USB" off, press "ok" go back to connections, enable "connect via usb" press "ok" unplug and replug your cable. and all works.

i had trouble with a 6.5.3 rom i just cooked. had to uninstall, reboot, reinstall wmdc, then i synced okay.
I have the last original rom and win 7 and with removing all remembered connections on the pda, it connected immidiatly. Thank you for the help
i have been all over the microsoft forums to no avail. i recently updated my laptop to win7, and have a fuze running 6.1 mobile. when i connect my fuze to the laptop the laptop recognizes it as it begins to charge, but then nothing. i try to open win mobile device center and this is the error message i get C:\windows\system32\rapistub.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains errors. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times and also tried different usb ports on my laptop. If anyone can help that would be awesome
