I have a web application that I have built in a VMWare environment. I would like to review the page layout on my Universal via USB connection - but can't.
I am using a bridged connection with a dedicated IP address on my VMWare instance. I can connect to the site from my host machine's (The machiine that VMWare is installed on) browsers - with success. When I plug the Universal or any other mobile device into the host - via USB - activesync starts, a connection is made between the device and my laptop.
When I go to iexplore on my Universal and type in the IP address of the VM Server I get an error. "The page cannot be displaued or downloaded because the connection was lost. Check the connection and try again later."
I can see from my laptop that the connection has not been lost between the Universal and my laptop.
Do you have an idea on how to make this work?
ActiveSync "pass through" settings?
Checked. Tried both Active Sync 4.2.x and 4.5.

Should happen automatically as long as ActiveSync is running and has established at least a Guest partnership. You may also want to check "This computer is connected to" in ActiveSync connection settings.

Just disable the proxy in the Proxy Manager of the Programs screen.
I updated to the lovely windows 6. I could sync to my XP computer no problem until I've used the internet sharing utility. Then everytime I connect the phone to the computer, the computer networks with the internet sharing utility and activesync doesn't get a look in.
If I delete my vodafone 1240 from the activesync devices I can start again until I use internet sharing again.
I need both. How can I stop internet sharing so that activesync will again recognise the computer? I connect via the usb port.
Try to accept wireless connection in ActiveSync.
not sure if it will work for you, but what worked for me (HTC touch pro, custom ROM PROven):
1. go to Settings on your HTC, Connections, USB-to-PC, select ActiveSync radiobutton, uncheck the "Ask me first about...." checkbox.
2. connect your phone using active sync.
3. disconnect (unplug)
4. go to that same settings again. Now select the other radiobutton (DiskDrive), AND check the "Ask me first..." checkbox.
When you now again connect your phone, it will (hopefully) ask what connection you want to make.
Otherwise, try changing the order of the above actions.

Activesync on PC uses LAN interface for data transfer between PC and WMPhone.
When you enable internet connection sharing it changes some connections' settings to manual - i.e. 192.168.0.1. So make sure that your LAN interface that is used by activesync, is set to get IP address automatically.

I'm having problems getting my remote desktop to work. Been trying to connect since I picked up my Fuze on the 11th.
I have three different computers that I can successfully administer via my desktop. I've tried using 3G to connect, no success. I've tried using Wi-fi to connect, no success. I've used local computer names, IP addresses, properly forwarded ports --
It has to be a setting I'm missing on the phone. Any ideas? TIA
What version of Windows are you trying to connect to? Do you have a Firewall? And have you done the port forwarding on the router?
But the only options you need is Computer: IP Address and the user name and password. Use a Domain if you are connecting to PCs on a domain. Also when I logged in not using 16bit color under options the PC was almost unusable.

Left username/password blank -- filled them both in -- left the domain name blank -- filled it in. All failed. Get the error message with three possible causes listed. Connected to my home network via wifi, data connection disabled (sometimes causes problems with my internet browsing if they're both enabled)
2) attempted to connect to a local machine, running XP Pro. Again, tried all possible combinations of username/password completeness, no success. Using Wifi
My local router does have a firewall, and the remote router does as well. I can successfully navigate those using my desktop (or laptop, for that matter)

Okay its been awhile since I used 2k3 sever. Using 2k8 lately but are you trying to use Terminal Server? and if your using 2k3 and you have ISA enabled I know it can be a pain to do port forwarding with it. But let me get this stright. You have no issues using XPs Remote Desktop to log into the server machines Terminal Server/Remote Desktop? Here is an idea. Whatever port your running Terminal Server/Remote Desktop type the IP Address with a : and port. IE 192.168.0.1:3000
Also if you would like you can PM the IP address of one of the Machines and I will try from my phone that I know is working with my machine. I am pretty sure you don't need to end a user name or password and it will bring me up to the login screen or you can make a temp account. On also on the Win2k3 machine I am pretty sure you have to add the option to login with Terminal Server even if its the Administrator account.
I am able to connect to my local XP machine over wifi using the ip addy/no port. Hostname (DNS) connection attempt failed, though. My 2k3 server's power supply died or I would test that for you.
No special router config (port fwd) for my device had been done.
The fact that you can't get to your local box on your local network is where I'd start.

I think that might be the problem -- the local network setup. I can connect via wifi, and browse the web. However, I can't install a network printer using the WinMo app that's included, and I can't seem get to the local PC even when I use the local IP instead of the DNS name. I did check, I'm being issued an IP address by the router (obviously), but still no dice on anything relating to network based traffic.
Is there a way to ping using WinMo? I'd like to be able to use that start.

Also, I've noticed that I don't get the same error each time. Depending on which machine I'm trying to connect to, it'll give me an error with either two or three options as to why it's not working. Trying to figure out what that's telling me.
As far as Terminal Services are concerned, when I connect from the desktop, I believe I'm using Remote Desktop there (honestly, I haven't been paying attention -- I just use whatever pops up when I type 'mstsc' from the Run dialog, lol), and I can connect to the 2003 server. However, I can't play with this anymore today, because apparently the server is down, and I won't be able to get to it till Monday.
I think I'm going to go play with the ATT proxy and see if that changes anything. I think mine is still enabled because I read that it might help with the GPS problems...
I have found some freeware app... pocketping 1.6 and microsoft has a network tool offering which I am not sure will work on WM6. I have no exp. with either tool on WM.
Can you get to your http/https router mgmt interface from the device? Check your router's client table? Does your router have any logging capabilities?

I am able to "dial" into the router from my phone -- it shows the HTCP4600 in the clients table with an IP of 192.168.2.108 ... all good.
My logging on the router was disabled, but now it is enabled. What should I be looking for?

Now make sure inside of the router then you have all the correct ports forwarded.
It should be port 3999 to 3999 On UDP and TCP and then your PC ip behind the firewall.

Here's the update:
Discovered that by disabling the AT&T proxy on the Fuze, I was finally able to connect to my network printer -- the Fuze doesn't have the drivers for my printer, but that's another thread.
So I was able to make my first IN-Network contact. Installed pocketping 1.6, and it's a very useful tool. I'm able to successfully ping the computers on my network now that the proxy is disabled -- an voila...I can also connect to my laptop on my own network! The main trick was to use the network IP address and not the DNS name.

So i have the HTC HD2 and want to use the remote desktop which is build in the phone. The problem is that i have no clue how to set up my pc.
Im running on windows xp home edition and using a router. I saw a tutorial for setting it up where he basically told me to open a port and it works. After doing that it didnt work and i suspect there are some things not explained in the tutorial... Can anyone help me out on this?

Ah i kinda had that feeling, im trying the same thing on my laptop which is windows xp proffesional. But i still cant log in. I also enabled the "allow remote"
Have you activated "Allow remote assistance" or did you activate "Allow connections" ? The latter is the one you need. Also make sure you're in the list of allowed users.
Doing this off the top of my head, I'm using Vista and it's been a while since I've needed to go into those options in XP.
You must have a password set too, so if the computer boots up and goes straight to your desktop without you having to log in, you'll need to set a password.
To access your computer when on the same network (wifi) use the computer's IP address.
Get this by running cmd on the computer and type ipconfig (then hit return).
To access your computer via the internet (over the phone network) use the computer's external IP address.
Get this by going to whatsmyip.org
You'll also need to configure your router to forward TCP port 3389 to the computer's IP address (found via ipconfig as above).
The thing is, with most home broadband connections, your external IP address can change, so get around this problem by using dynamic DNS.
Some routers have a DDNS client built in, with a list of compatible DDNS services. Just go to one of those services' websites and sign up, often it's free. Pick an domain name to register, ie p03p.dyndns.org, and use that to connect rather than your external IP address.
Best to check you can connect via wifi first using the computer's internal IP address.
If that doesn't work, are you running a firewall?
If you don't have a 3rd party one like Symantec/Norton, then check the windows firewall - ensure the Remote Desktop exception is ticked, if it is, then disable the firewall, and also untick the network connections on the advanced tab (even though the windows firewall says it's disabled, don't expect it to know that!).
If you use a 3rd party firewall, then look into how you can add a rule for port 3389 (RDP)
One way to get around the issue of a dynamic IP address on the home PC is to use Himachi2....it's a super-simple way to create a tunnel to your home pc no matter what the ever-changing external IP address is, and they have a winmo client now too. You simply set up the host once on your home PC, and as long as you leave it running it's very easy to create the remote connection just like you're on the local network with the PC....then you just use Remote Desktop that way
I ticked both the allow options just to be sure. What i also did is go on my 2nd laptop which also has windows xp pro on it to try and connect to my 1st laptop which also didnt work.
I think the problem lies in the list of allowed user. When i get into that list i dont see anyone in it. I assume i have to add my 2nd laptop in that list in order to get this to work. I tried to look a bit arround but i dont know how to add someone to that list.

I just downloaded Remote RDP Enterprise 3.2 and i am trying to setup so i can connect to my home pc. I am using a router model WGT624 netgear router. I tried the port forwarding (had to setup custom PF, because it wouldnt let me add 3389 as a port on the services which offers through the router) as it was suggested but i think i might be doing something wrong because it just wont connect at all.
my PF on my router looks something like this:

1 RDP 3389 3389 192.168.X.X
And when i goto whatismyip.com i have a different IP address: 67.234.x.x
on the app on my phone which IP address do i connect through?
Anyone use the same app and has a netgear router and knows how to set it up? or any documentation on how to get this thing working and can share it would be extremely helpful, its for my work!

Hi iknight8. I don't have that app but I'll try and help.
You need to connect to the external IP address (67.234.x.x) when you are on the internet and the internal IP (192.168.X.X) when you are on your internal network.
A good troubleshooting step would be to try connecting to you PC on the internal address when you are connected to your wifi. This should work with any of the port forwarding you have setup so if it doesn't then then you know it is a proble with the setting on the pc itself. Remote desktop has to be enabled in the computer settings and allowed on any firewalls you are using.
i tried connecting both but i get a Socket is not connected message!
if u can use it and let me know of the setting to make it work would be nice

p.s. wen i am on internal wifi network, same as pc and i put that PF ip addess, i get a mesage "no route to host"...
Do you have allowed RDP connection on PC?
I downloaded the app and the first time I tried it on my wifi I got the same error as you, no route to host. The problem was that I didn't enable remote desktop on my PC. Once I set it to allow connections from computers running any version of remote desktop it worked straight away.
This is what I did.
1. In the app, press the menu button and add.
2. I put in the IP address of my pc and port 3389.
3. On my PC I disabled the windows firewall.
4. Also on my PC (I'm using windows 7), I enabled remote desktop by going to start, right click computer, click properties, click remote settings and check the allow connections from computers running any version of resmote desktop radio button.
5. finally I connected my phone to my wifi and tapped on the connection I created in the app. It gave me my logon screen.
If you can get this working hopefully your port forwarding settings are corect and that will work too. Hope this helps.
