Hi
How to make a system backup on WM6?
I'm using darkForce ROM, all is OK, but yesterdey my exec got stuck
on splash screen (operator o2 screen)... Hard reset didn't work, so
I have load ROM again...
All my settings, etc are gone... I don't want to do it again, so backup
will be very helpful...
THX
It is not possible or what?
I have been using SPB back up, but it only seems to work with one rom at a time. For example if I do a back up with one rom and load a dif rom it will restore, but Ill get errors. If you stick to just one it seems to work fine.

I tried Dutty's ROM, and liked it, but needed prober Danish language, so I wanted to load in my original backup. Made with SPB Backup.
After loading the backup, the phone don't boot. It shows the HTC logo animation with "Dutty's Series" on the lower right screen, and stops there. No Activesync connection.
How can I get it working again?
Thanks.

What ROM and Radio did you use?
Put your device in bootloader and reflash!

Alive again
Got it in bootloader mode, and reflashed the Dutty ROM. so far, so good.
How do I restore the original ROM, now I know the backup/restore don't work?
--Gizwiz

Correct. Once you flash your original rom back, then you can safely run the restore without bricking your phone again.
Ain't got it
I don't have the original ROM, Duttys FAQ said that I should make a backup with SPB Backup, and I would be able to restore it to original, so I didn't rip the original ROM.
Can I maybe replace the keyboard and dictionary in Duttys ROM with Danish versions? - And where would I find them?

ahh sorry you mean danish lang.. ehm.. try searching in the forum
Yes, SPB Backups can ONLY be used with the exact same setup they were made with! You will need to try and find your original rom on the forum.
First of all, you did not brick your device.
Second, Spb Backup will not backup the Rom Image, it will only backup your configuration & user data. You should never restore a beckup from one Rom to another.
If you don't have a Rom package for your original Rom then check the Wiki for the correct RUU package. Honestly though I sounds like you probably don't know exactly what Rom you originally had and it is important that you are using the EXACT Rom Image or the backup will not be reliable.
Most liekly the best you can do is find a Rom that is close to what you had, flash it then manually re-setup your device. You can do a partial restore of some items like PIM Data but never the registry.
Finally, in the future try to use a more descriptive thread title.
Hey there
I have bought this fine piece of software but iam having trouble with it!
I am mainly going to use it for restoring after rom upgrading (These days a new "must-try" rom comes out allmost every day!)
I can make full backups with without any problems, but when i try to restore after a rom upgrade it gets stuck at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. The box stops spinning around and it nothing happens.. Only solution is a soft reset!
I have tried to Force Rom Upgrade mode but that does not help either..
Anyone that knows of this?

It works, disable close all running programs in the menu and try...
I've used the SPB restore function several times without problems. You might try posting a message in SPBs support forum... They might have seen this before.
Its been 3 nights in a row I've had the phone mess up after a nights charging. Specifically, I unplug the phone and begin to use it until I realize my program files are completely missing. No app will launch, and eventually the phone just freezes requiring a reset. Without actually hard resetting, the phone does this itself just by pressing the reset button.
I've restored it and had the same thing happen, and today, figuring it was just the charging over night issue, I soft reset the phone. It wasn't a soft reset, the phone hard reset itself again. What in gods name could possibly be causing this? I suspect the registry is corrupting or something, but even flashing a different ROM doesnt appear to fix it. (unless possibly a file i restore with spb backup is corrupt?)
I would try to install a new ROM (maybe ROMeOS 1.90 or the original ROM that came with the TP), hardreset the TP and run it without restorimg a backup from SPB the first days. So you can test wether the SPB Backup is corrupted. Did you take out the battery for an hour or more?

I've flashed back a ROM and restored to see if it'll do it again. I had the most problems this morning when I restored a backup onto a different ROM so I'll see if it does the same thing if I flash back to the ROM the backup was from. (note: I didnt restore system files)
My best guesses are:
Corrupt backup
Corrupt backup - PIM component
ROM issues - Faulty flashing?
Malfunctioning rilphone.dll (I noticed this morning the phone reported I had no service although edge was active)
Charging issues (swapped battery incase)
What effect would having the battery out for an hour be?
I've had the same problem recently although I don't use spb backup, I have posted about it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=501091
So far after flashing back to stock rom and back to a cooked one it working ok, well it lasted a night and a day which is better than before.

Hi everyone,
i've been using a very nice rom for quite a while, but installed an update from it, but that update gave issues, so i wanted to use the previous one again.
Unfortunately I don't have it anymore and the chef that cooked it neither, so I'm kinda stuck here.
Luckily I've also flashed it on a friend's phone and now I'd like to extract/backup his entire phone so I can flash it back on mine again and we can both save of a copy of the backup, in case one of us loses it.
It's no problem if there is also user data in the backup, I can clean it up afterwards and make a new clean backup if someone could point me to the right application for this.
thx a lot and grtz,
dasiro
Hi
I recently installed a custom ROM (CM9) on my htc sensation and I backed up most things. Thing is when I backed up my SMS I did it through the stock HTC sms app and Im trying to restore it but no apps read the file
Any ideas on what to do?
would be greatly appreciated!

try this. if it doesnt work make a new backup, then reflash your old backup from your other rom. then use the app. then flash forward to your new one and then restore
this app only reads xml files. the one htc did was just a file without any extensions so it cant be read by this
but if this has something to do with flashing the old one could you please elaborate lol, im still new to this stuff
Assuming you still have a backup of your original ROM that your messages are stored in, give this a try.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.handyandy.appextractor&feature=nav_result#?t=W10.
It should let you extract the SMS files from your backupROM.zip file and let you restore them to your current app. If all else fails you can manually go into the backupROM.zip file and pull the SMS database file out yourself. You can copy the .zip to your computer and just root through the .zip and pull out the part you want, copy it to your phone and BOOYA!
Try the free app first though.

OK if you still have your rom that has the the sms then you can flash it back again. Using the correct firmware of course. Then back up the SMS with the app in my post above. Then reflash your current rom again (the one that needs the SMS) then run the app again and choose restore
or, use the method above
Both should work

I know you've got your old ROM running fine now, but for future reference don't bother flashing the kernel for a backup. When you make a nandoid backup the kernel is included with it, so when you restore it the kernel is restored automatically.
Now in case you meant that you flashed firmware so you could go back to your old rom, then yeah...you may have to do that if you're switching between Gingerbread and ICS roms. But if you're switching between two ICS roms then odds are that your firmware is already 3.32 or 3.33 for both and you don't have to switch it.
