What is the difference btw SPB Pocket Plus 3.2 and SPB Mobile Shell 1.0? - General Topics

What is the difference between SPB pocket plus 3.2 and SPB mobile shell 1.0? Does anyone recommend one over the other? Or both can be used together?
Please advise, thanks!

Hi both can be used together they dont really compete with each other more like complement
this thread has more

anyway ive got both and Diary and they work very very well
JEREMY

half off topic here but, i bought their pack of spb weather, diary, time, and pocket plus a while ago, i only use weather (no other uk freeware) and time (best software for my uses) nowadays. all spb products are very big and use ram, claunch and wm5newmenu and today agenda are much better and freeware,
back to topic, mobile shell, well i installed it, played with all the options, and eventually, i gave up trying to work out its purpose. all i could see that it does is give you a big clock image, notifications, battery and signal meters when you wake up the device (which you have to exit to do anything) it's sort of like a today screen before the real today screen, but with less info. other than that it give you the option to use your ppc with normal mobile phone style menus

I ditched shell in favour of pocket plus. The shell was too much of a memory hog. Install them (pocket plus first) and use the buzz dev Task Manager to see what I mean.
I like pocket plus with the BBC feed used in spb weather with the diary plug-in. I used to use cLaunch but prefer the flexibility of spb.
They can both be used in harmony and shell also allows you to integrate non spb today plug-ins into pocket plus (well, some). SPB shell is similar to, but not as sophisticated as, Wisbar Advance Desktop, and spb pocket plus is a launcher foremost - but you may also add to it spb weather/diary/sms/ etc. . .
I tested shell for a while but opted not to use it, but by all means give it a shot, loads of people seem to really like it.
After all, it is only my opinion.

Spb Mobile Shell vs. iPhone mod

I was reading the reviews of the new Spb Shell Mobile app, it seems similar to what is being accomplished by the iPhone mod. The Spb Shell Mobile is one app and to achieve the iPhone mod you need at least five apps (CLauncher, Phone Alarm, Spb Time, Wisbar Adv, Wisbar Desktop). One con stated about Spb Mobile Shell is the amount of memory used. How much memory is being used on the iPhone mod?
http://www.aximsite.com/articles/link.php?id=372
I dont' see why you need both clauncher and WA/WAD. I think its just CLauncher or Phone Alarm (maybe both?) or WA/WAD. Not sure how SPB Time figures into it.
abasu2003,
What I have read is that it takes Clauncher, Phone Alarm, and Wisbar Adv to make the main screen (pic 1) and Wisbar Advance Desktop and Spb Time to make the Lock screen (pic 2) plus the clownfish pocket theme if you want that look.
SPB Shell is awesome!
too bad it doesnt work on wm03, its nice to use on wm05
I love Shell. I use Diary and it incorporates right in! Great work SPB!
SPB Shell is a good (In Principal) but maybe you should checkout the the forum, it's got a few bugs, it's third party support isn't that great either (at present).
http://www.spbclub.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=48
Then again I haven't paid for it, I'm on the fifteen day trial, I would have bought it bought it but maybe I'm just slight miffed because I've got to hard reset my phone due to the problems I have had with it.
I only use Wisbar Advanced and Desktop to get the Iphone effect! I have around 20meg free on my xda orbit.
i'm trialling spb shell - and it's made me much happier with my Prophet. Reall much happier. Not only looks better, but the one handed operation is really starting to improve my relationship with the device. I still wish the dialer had bigger buttons - but otherwise, it looks like i'll be spending the 30 USD in a few days time.

Lightweight weather application

Hi all. I was wondering if you guys could tell me through your own personal experience what would be a simple weather application that I could use on a tab in Spb pocket plus. I have tried Spb weather, but I don't feel the cost is justified just to see the weather. Thanks in advance.
Try weatherpanel from Marsware.com If money is your problem, take a trial and it never expired in my device
Regards,
Carty..
Thanks for the suggestion, but it refuses to work with over activesync at work I have another query too... what kind of comparison could be made between pocket plus and pocketbreeze?
I invested the money on Spb Diary instead. Much better and doesn't eat resources like mobile shell. The Calendar, task and text replacements are awesome.

actually i believe nothing can be compared between the two except that they are both today plugins.... pocket plus focuses on task management and availability of other displays (such as battery, shortcuts, etc) on the today screen... pocketbreeze on the other hand, focuses only detailed calendar, contacts, tasks and notes..
but you can use pocket plus as a tab in pocketbreeze...

spb or Resco?

Hi. I have a question, Just out of curiosity. Who do you prefer? Spb or Resco? And what is thy're best product. I've tried spb pocket plus wich was great. Tho spb Mobile Shell was pretty useless in my opinion. Resco Explorer was also good.
i like spb backup, i think resco backup do best in this too..
for resco, i like because got resco, which i can directly install every resco i wan right inside my phone.. resco soduku , explorer, keyboard pro, brain game too.. nice..
Kinda took the words out my mouth. You really can't go wrong with either.
This should be in the general section!
When you compare two products. For example; SPB Backup and Resco Backup I think you can start a discussion. But you compare two brands?
At the end you will have results like this:
Program1 SPB vs Resco 1 - 0
Program2 SPB vs Resco 0 - 1
Program3 SPB vs Resco 0 - 1
Program4 SPB vs Resco 1 - 0
-----
Total score SBB - Resco: It's a tie
This thread seems useless to me. No offense!
Spb Backup Vs Resco Radio
- Data saving quality: Spb 1 - Resco 0
- Fun rate: Spb 0 - Resco 1
It's a Draw!
You'll prob get more answeres like this, but I think most, including myself use apps from both. Mainly because they don't have many apps that are similar.
Your real debate should be between Spb and SBSH, I think SBSH would win, I actually wish I did some more testing before.
But, I use:
Spb:
Backup
Time
Phone Suite
Insight
Diary
Sometimes Full Screen Keyboard (free, so i replaced with Resco KB)
Sudoku
Arkaball
From Resco:
Keyboard PRO
Explorer
Radio
Spb does have really good deals though, since you accumulate points by purchasing the apps, I think 2 or 3 of mine were free.
I think You posted this in the wrong forum. This forum is for software contributions, not discussion about existing retail software.
Ok, I've realized I posted this thread in the wrong topic. But from what I see its a tie between the two of them. I also don't think SBSH would have a chanse against SPB or Resco when it comes to quality products

I think that SBSH has really stopped developing for the Windows Mobile platform (and maybe focused on BB or iPHone)....I am sure there others that would deny this, but they have been amazingly absent in their forum for a LONG TIME, with no new releases. I am bummed about that, as I used to use a lot of their products. Now I don't use any SBSH stuff.

In a word, it can't be stated which of the two developers is better. All of their apps have strengths and weaknesses and they both have apps the other doesn't have anything comparable of (for example, Spb Pocket Plus, Resco Explorer or Resco Audio Recorder).
See my articles for one-on-one comparisons between their comparable products; for example:
Resco Brain Games vs. Spb Brain Evolution
Resco Radio vs. Spb Online
etc.

Menneisyys,
I searched for your comparison on these two products and was not able to find it. I am very interested in reading what you have to say about the "Online Radio" function of the two products.
Which has the broader format support?
Which has the larger library?
Is the library updated on-line?
Can the library be updated locally?
Thanks for any information.
Regards
to my knowledge resco doesnt have anything like spb mobile shell.
this is what i use.
SPB
spb mobile shell
spb time
spb backup
spb online
resco
resco audio recorder
resco explorer

Please recommend the best shell or plugin to make a great usable phone

Vito Goodwin?
SPB Mobile Shell?
2dmanilla?
In order to access your favorite programs as quickly as possible, or check time / weather and other stuff, including pick contacts quickly to call people, what is your favorite cell phone setup for winmo 6 QVGA?? (Please leave out programs like Total cmdr, etc, just talking interface here).
SPB Mobile Shell with customisation to include three contact pages and an MRU page.
i also use ThumbCal and iContact - Burt Edition, for finger friendly Calendar/Contacts.
you can also read the last guide in the guides thread

Must-Have apps

can we use this thread for useful applications.
whether its tools to customize or certain programms. There are a lot of people who didn't own one of the latest HTC devices, thus they don't have a clue about the names of certain apps.
Those who do, could help them to install the right tools for their needs.
Too Right
we need load of appz for this phone like the iphone has. we must use the multitouch on board and develop loads of application for the HD2. So all you programmers out there get busy when the device comes out and give us some mega apps for this mega phone
the only MUST-HAVE app for me (and I've always had a few that I really like to have) is PhoneAlarm,
this is the best program I have ever found for conserving that all important battery life.
it allows you to set profiles and then switch to these profile based on time, gps location etc. The result is that you can switch things on and off as you need them (bluetooth, wifi, etc etc) which results in minimal power being used when you don't need the things turned on. for example, I have mine set to switch to flight mode at 12pm and then turns back on at 6.30am, this means my phone is effectively off at night (using virtually no power) and switches back on in the morning without me having to do anything. Why not just turn the phone off I hear you ask, well because if I did that I couldn't use the alarm to wake me up in the morning, and I would have to suffer the reboot time (which, lets be honest, isn't great is it)
and it's cheap to buy,
Please developers can we have an app like painting. an app that lets you paint like on the iphone, my little girl is crazy for that. I think the app is called "Brushes" just take a look at theses pics
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencet...i-masterpieces-finger-painting-new-level.html
I can realy seccond that!
My brother who is a iPhone user showed me lots and lots of nice apps making life easier and fun.
Prisjakt för example is a nice app that scans the thing you want to buy in a store and tells you the best price close to where you are.
Many many apps like this made me a bit confused wither i should still go WM or go over to the dark side... nah...
And why not a Mafia Wars app for WM as well?
Also include Sprite Backup for any kind of backups we may perform on our Leo's prior to flashing
Essentials for me are:
Resco contact manager (dont know with the new sense)
Pocket irc
SPB pocket plus & spb weather (dont know with the new sense)
Mypersonaldiet & MyPersonalTraining (Gym rat)
Resco explorer, because the WM explorer is a ****.
pocket player (good music player)
HiCalc
Tomeraider 3 (wikipedia offline)
Lexisgoo dictionary
ThumbCal
Coreplayer
Vito Audio Notes
Touch Pal (the best keyboard)
Pocket clock pro (best alarm and date/hour software so far)
SpaceTime 3.0 (maths)
PhatPad (to take notes, but I think that will be unusable in a capacitive screen)
SkyFire
Background all tabs...
I had touch hd and all tabs background was a very good app!
Thank's!
two apps I'd love are an ebay app and sky TV app....but no sign of such things anywhere...except on the iphone and since I can't wait to get rid of the stupid thing, I will have to suffer the lack of these two.
I also will have
Resco Registry Editor
Resco Explorer
Schapps Advanced config (assuing it will work on the HD2)
SPB Wireless (for tracking my internet usage)
SPB Time (as silly as it sounds, I found the snooze on WM too small when I'm half awake in the morning)
Resco Photo viewer (for editing images so I can send them via MMS)
I'd add Total Commander, enabling to change/overwrite system-files (such as the weather_cities.xml for other locations)
Generally I'd also really like to see such an variety of free apps for HTC devices as for the iPhone, cos I really don't want to buy such a piece of fruit, but the advantages keep growing...
I'm a Touch Cruise user, and really reading with suspense the first user-reports on the HD2, hoping it'll not be such a disappointment than my TC, but I fear I'll be disillusionned again from what I'm reading till now...
the sad thing is, there are a whole bunch of apps on the iphone that are free, and yet I would gladly PAY for them if they were on WM.
Cool needed Apps
okey, here we go,
Paint like VS paint or Vs Note pad,
Media like Core player, SPB TV or Dimond TV,
Games like Sky force, and Emulators like nes snes + Roms
barcode reader + step counter or pedometer etc...
Comic Reader Mobi
My single favourite app is Comicreader Mobi which makes comics look bloody awesome on the HD2!
I also use Kinoma Play.
* Resco Keyboard Pro.
Improves typing A LOT on the sensitive HD2 screen (due to the fact that it doesn't allow to change a character once you pressed one on the keyboard)
* Pocket Player with this skin: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=563410
(no more fooling around with the buggy "Audio Booster", ust use the built-in EQ of Pocket Player. Better liberary browsing etc. )
Finger Keyboard 2.1 *free*
Batti 2.1 *free* (I love to be able to see my battery level as a thin bar on the top of the screen)
HTCaddicts CleanRAM 1.8 *free* The best RAM cleaner there is
Microsoft Voice Command (incredibly useful when driving)
SPB Newsbreak (Using this allows me to save so much time as opposed to using a browser alone)
TouchOff 0.5.0 *free* (For simple soft rests)
Touch response *free* (To enable more haptic feedback options)
SPB Traveller (For conversions, currency rates, etc)
Crackwhore's old style snooze options *free* (cause I simply cant use one fixed snooze alarm... this takes it back to the old style of being able to set the set the snooze length of time)
Coreplayer
Advanced Config Tool 3.3 *free*
Dutty's HTC task manager *free*(I really still cant let go of hit x to close apps)
Ewallet (for easy secure access to all my passwords, logins and other sensitive info)
Thanks to the others that have posted, I am keen to check out Comicreader Mobi too and a couple of other apps.
Sorry! Double post!
Must-haves for anybody:
SPB Shell
SPB Keyboard
One of: Resco File Explorer, Total Commander or similar
SPB Keyboard fixes all problems with HD2 keyboards, and SPB Shell is more practical IMO than the TouchFlo 3D interface.
Must haves for tweakers:
SKTools
Advanced Configuration
There's a lot of other good software I could list (e.g. TCPMP), but not everyone wants or needs them, so I don't consider them "must haves".

Do you know of any free alternative to that comic book reader app. I`d love to be able to read comics on my HD2 (for which I`m waiting eagerly(I`m from Romania btw)).
for me: Zooomer - I really like this tool

Trust me, none of them match up to this. It's worth the cost to be able to view the whole page full screen and tap on a bubble to zoom it to readable size! Plus, there's a free desktop version!
