WM6: E-Mail Account, check for messages smallest interval 15 min too long :( - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

Hello @ all,
in WM5 I was able to setup manual a time interval how often my phone should for E-Mail messages (e.g. every 5 minutes)... now on WM6 the time intervals are fixed and smallest one is 15 minutes
Does somebody know if this is in any way changeable? E.g. by reg. editing?
TIA

Is there anything new to that? Probably there's a reg key to change ore something like that...
Would be great to reduce the checking interval...
Thanks at all!

I'd like to know this also. I'd love to use direct push, but my email is through AIM. Their IMAP service is great, but they don't allow auto-forwarding, so no push for me. I've even tried the aggregator over at mail2web, but no go.

mail2web.com definitely provides push mail support. y 've got the right settings in active sync? mail2web has to be set up as exchange not as imap or pop as MS direct push is based on an Exchange Server, but nevertheless i have read that hotmail including Live is or is gonna providing this feature as well.

Yea i thought i ve seen this here before, I saw someone asking about push mail service in other forums so I thought someone may need the info here too..
great I was gonna ask about this as I've tried emoze with no result
how do I set up the AKU2 for an exec on tmobile uk,will it run ok?
i am aware of this, but wanted to know if anyone had an idea as to how to change the reply-to address???
I have emails forwarded to the mail2web account so i can get the exchange sync on my Wizard but do not reply to them from it as i do not want that email address to be avaliable
mail2web
Ive been using the paid service of mail2web (i liked the free service enough that i wanted a full service) for the last 3 months now, in europe, in china the push email has worked great (no i dont work for them, but geeze when something just works its nice).
1) get the free account at www.mail2web.com
2) choose your [email protected]
3) redirect all your email to your mail2web.com address
4) when u want to reply to something simply setup an imap, or pop3
account that you never poll, so when u want to reply to an email,
switch account, new, send email. its a bit cludgy, we need a better
email client that allows us to adjust the from address.
a.
As far as I am aware, it is something they have to do at the server end. I spoke to them about it and changing the domain of the reply address is one of the features of their buisness packages.
However, they did say that they are thinking of adding this to the personal package soon (don't know if that includes the free one or not!)
Hope this helps!

That would be awesome. I currently use a forwarding-account from http://www.pobox.com and would like to be able to use my Pobox-address as the default address from Mail2Web-live.

You can simply reply to emails through the mail client, it will send them from your mail2web account.
Just followed the instruction and got the push mail work perfectly, but some question to ask here, can i know what's the different between this setup and if I setup a pop mail with auto connect option enabled?
Pop mail will check mail at the intervals you specify.
Push mail keeps a data link open to the server and gets the mail as soon as it arives.

For the pushmail to work, does our phone require to be connnected to the internet either throught wifi or GPRS or other services offered by the mobile service provider?
Yes, it needs internet access.
GPRS is what it's designed to work with as this stays active while he phone is in standby. It will work with WiFi, but while the phone is in standby it will try to connect by GPRS if you have a connection available.
It could in theory work on a Bluetooth PAN with internet access, but I haven't tried this.
ok i have mail2web set up but push email is not working. I have a t-mobile MDA with the new T-Mobile US ROM (the t-mobile provided rom) and if i send recieve i get my email but so far i have not received a push email..... any thoughts..... directpush is green in the connection manager.....
i have the mda for t-mobile usa too
go to active sync on the mda and then
Menu
Schedule
and change to "As Items Arrive"
when you do that it will say you can get items imediatelly or something like that and it asks for your device address [email protected]
and there you go
Thanks buddy works perfect!

Is it possible to push from two different servers?
I have been using gmail for a long time. My biggest complaint is that everytime I sync it deletes all of the information that was downloaded the last time I synced. Someone recomended mail2web.com to use as an exchange server which works great. I didn't know my wizard could do push mail. Now that it does I would like to download my work email and my gmail, but keep them seperate. Is that possible? If it isn't does anyone know of a pop or imap service that works better then gmail? Thanks a bunch.

In Gmail you can select the option of leaving a copy of your mail in Gmail account in Options.
I use mail2web.com with free live services and it work's well.
But i don't understand why deleted items folders and drafts folders are not sync. I've look at the activ sync stteings but i didn't found how to make those folfers sync. with my Tytn.
Is there some people that have those folders Sync. ?
Is it a limitation for free services at Mail2web ?
thanks for answer

Funambol Push Email

Anyone with any experience using Funambol? It's an open source push email solution. It seems to be the only Exchange competitor open source has to offer. I'm installing it now to my server so I'll post my experience. Any thing I should watch out for during the install?
Thanks
LMAO lack of interest apparently!
I tried myfunambol today... Setting up an account and installing everything was easy. Seemed to sync my contacts, calendar and tasks just fine... but I couldn't use more than one email account which was a bummer. But more importantly... the one email account I did use.. gmail... Would push the email to my device after about 5-10 minutes. It would notify me that there was new mail... but when I would go to the Funambol account (won't let you rename it in pocket outlook from what I could tell) it would say Sending/Recieving... and after it was done... there was nothing in my inbox. It did manage to get them after I clicked on Menu > Send/Recieve... but it was still spotty. I didn't get that "reliable" feeling from it.
I tried it for about an hour and even synced my Outlook on my desktop. The syncing of contacts and what not seemed fine... but the email didn't seem to work for me.
I'm on the 8525 btw.
I decided to just go back to mail2web for now... and just forward my work and my personal email to one email account. BAH!
I wish pocket Outlook would just support IMAP idle for gmail already... that and PPC PimBackup is all I would need.
Mark
funambol does actually support instant push, and as soon as the server sees new mail, your phone will sync it.
Your problem is that if you're using the my.funambol free hosted service, their server is only polling your email every 15 min.
Basically, you're notified as soon as the server has new mail for you, however the server only checks for you on 15 min intervals.
Why?
Because the public email servers (yahoo, gmail, aol, etc) dont like get pounded with constant email checking. I was told even blackberry servers check public servers on intervals for this reason (private domains will be instant tho).
If you have an ISP or private domain email, and you're nice to funambol's support team, you can ask them to set your account to check more often. I don't know if they'll do this for everyone, but they set mine to check every 1 min. Now the longest I have to wait for email to arrive is one minute, the actual time averages around 10 sec.
Or you can set up your own funambol server if you'd like...
Ah, that explains the delay.
I was hoping the Funambol server would implement IMAP IDLE connection to gmail so that the emails would be pushed much faster than a 15 minute polling. I'll have to do some more research.
Dishe,
You seem very knowledgeable about Funambol. Do you know if it support HTML email with the Windows Mobile plug-in? It is currently giving me plain-text, I thought maybe there was a setting I could do to change this. Thanks.
www.nuevasync.com
No joke, 1000x better than any other sync solution. Only works with Gapps, but I bet that's what 90% of you guys are looking for anyway.

From their website, it does not seem to support push email (YET).
I checked out Nuevasync and it is awesome! It syncs contacts and calendar perfectly and doesn't require any software downloads. It uses activesync. Thanks a lot for the tip!
is really useful for me, I am glad to read it here.

How to delete mail at the client but keep it on the server

I want to delete the emails on my FUZE after I read them but still want keeping them in the INBOX on the server for some important mails. I have tried the default TF3D email client. The POP3 setting seems not working for my mail server. It works at the beginning but after a few receive/send cycles, it always took a long time to scan the INBOX and receive nothing. Then I tried the IMAP setting, it works great but when I delete the mail I got only two options (1) delete off the server (2) move to server trash. Is there any way/any email client that allows me to delete mail from the FUZE only. I know Blackberry can do that. But any luck with WM6.1? Thanks a lot in advance. Any input will be helpful.

What kind of Email server are you using?
If it is is Exchange and are using outlook account you dont have to bother deleting email from your device after you read as it only sync last (*) days emails only
(*) you can configure this option how many days email you want to sync.

Thanks for your reply. I am using my university account but they do not provide exchange account to students. Yes, I can sync today's emails only but I am afraid they will accumulate too many and start to take up my precious storage space.
I am assuming that is not a fancy function but just to clear the local INBOX folder. If I can find it on the phone, I can probably write a script to do that?
Probably you can limit the size of the message downloaded to avoid any space problem with number of days.

Email Spam= What Prog to use

Hi all
I did a search but it came up with nothing which I thought was odd
What Spam programs are you guys using to controll spam on you Topaz/TD2
I dont want to waste my limited data connection on downloading Spam
Cheers porridge
good one porridge!
no probs on outlook but on TD2, it is a disaster!
what do you guys recommend?
I too would be interested in this as the delete from server function doesn't seem to work properly either like it did on my old Kaiser, deletes it first time round but on subsequent send/receive they're all retrieved again!
hello...bump
Hi People
Most people filter their mail for spammage within their mail hosting environment - For example, I synchronise from Googlemail (using IMAP4) and Google filter the crud for me, and from an Exchange Server, where the mail gets passed through Websense hosted email first. However you do the filtering, you need to do it either on the mailbox or before it gets to your mailbox (better). Any Spam filter on the WinMo would have to retrieve the message to rate it and either burn it or deliver it, leaving you no better off.
If you can advise on how your current email is received (from exchange/pop3/imap4 e.t.c.) and if its a personal, corporate or hosted mail service, I may be able to advise how best to approach it.
As Digital.Diablo is saying...
You should have your mails filtered before they reach your device.
I have a hotmail account and an exchange server account syncronized with my TD2, and I don't get any spam on either account.
- well, maybe one on very rare occations, but nothing to write home about.
On my hotmail account, Microsoft is doing the filtering for me and on the exhange one, some spam-filter-software installed on the server itself is doing it's job...

[Q] mail client for hotmail - mark mail as read on server

so, i had a hotmail account set up on my htc mail app. mail came through with no problems, but any actions i took on the device didnt get reflected on the server. so if i read/deleted mail on the device, i had to do the same on the web inbox.
i switched to k-9 mail which now deletes mail on the server, but doesnt mark the mail as read once i've read it. something which i do quite often as i use my hotmail for online purchases, and i want to read an invoice but keep it for reference.
does anyone know an app that allows mail thats read on the device to be marked as read on the server?
muchos gracias!
anyone?

My wife has a blackberry and uses hotmail also. I believe the problem lies in the difference between POP3/IMAP. Hotmail connects via POP3 and from what I gather that protocol doesn't involve much more than basically forwarding the messages to your phone. While IMAP (which Gmail is capable of using) allows the syncing of deleted items\read items\etc.

I had a blackberry before my android and was able to read and delete mail, mark mail as unread etc and it would be reflected in my hotmail inbox. its really frustrating as having the blackberry allowed me to manage my inbox completely without having to log into my hotmail and now i feel like im going backwards

Try this:
Setup a new account.
In the first screen, where you write your name and password, hit manual setup. In the next screen, select the last option (Exchange ActiveSync).
In the details put:
Server: m.hotmail.com
Username: your email eg. [email protected]
Domain: leave this blank
SSL: Enable this/use always
Certificate: SSL
It has some additional settings (sync contacts, calendars, etc.), select as needed.
Began testing last weekend after seeing this post. http://androidcommunity.com/forums/349480-post18.html
E-Mail is working good so far, have not used contacts and calendar sync. It pushes messages and syncs them both ways when necessary.

so so close!
firstly, thanks for the tip. it seems to be working, but the only issue is that it has constant sync failures. i've only had it up for half an hour or so and have been testing it out, and when it works - it works well. but the syncing issue could be a deal breaker if its not an time-isolated issue. so far i've had to manually instigate the sync when i know theres new mail, or i want to push changes back to the server.
will give it a few days and see. if its still buggy i dont see spending 12 quid on it as getting value for money.
Weird... It's been working perfect so far, maybe it has to do with the OS version you have on your device, I have Cyanogen's 6.1 RC1, Android 2.2.1. Anyway I was looking for a product called Exchange for Android 2.x, but it's $20 and this is not an urgent need for me.
BTW, why you need to expend $12 on this, it's free as far as I can tell
