Hi,
I own a G4 Prophet (SPV M600 form Orange) and I have some questions about it :
- What are the limitations of a G4 device in comparison with a G3 one?
- What are the limitations of a CID-locked device?
- Do I have to SIM-Unlock my device to do any upgrade?
- Is there any way to do a backup of my rom, since it seems that I can't CID-Unlock it?
Thank you very much per advance

Since it seems that (please correct me if I'm wrong) with a G4 locked device, I can upgrade to several roms including WM6 "nghianga" and "smart clear" (maybe AKU3.3.07.ASERG and more?), I wonder what would be the benefits of unlocking my device? The only problem I see for now is that there is no way to backup my original rom...
Be patient, read Wizard forum about partial flashing ;>

Hello - This forum is a great resource; unfortunately the wiki portion isn't quite ready yet...
I've done a forum search on this topic (using the "search" function), but it wasn't very useful. Google was more helpful - I've learned that apparently G3 or G4 has to do with the kind of flash memory used on a HTC Prophet.
How do I tell if my device uses G3 or G4 flash memory?
I just picked up a Dopod 818 Pro last week. It was brand new in the store, but I'm not sure when it was actually produced. The case features the newer, easier to read style Dopod logo (as opposed to the logo that looked like a bunch of circles with some dots above or below).
It seems to have the most basic/early ROM version there is - 1.0.13.21 WWE.
The ExtROM version is: 1.00.13.102. The ROM date is 11/24/05.
From what I'm reading here, I think my device would benefit greatly from a firmware upgrade.
To do that, I need to know - is this a G4 or G3 device? Do I need to CID unlock this device in order to put new firmware on it?
Thanks for your help and input.
-Dan
Hi Dan, if your SPL ends in .000 you have a G3 chip, if it ends .001 then you have G4. softreset you device to see the IPL and SPL version.
You will need to CID unlock your device before changing you ROM.

as i know, you don't have to CID unlock your device. You only have to change the Romupdateulility.exe (extract the downloaded .EXE file with winrar) with this file
ftp://[email protected]/Up...AKU2.3_LvsW_edition/ROMUpdateUtility_NoID.exe
Thanks a lot, everyone!
I have my Dopod up and running the latest 2.151327 firmware now!
The help is much appreciated.
Take it easy,
- Dan
Guys, just about to sell my Magician for ProphIt
Please advise what's the fuss about G3 and G4, is G4 better than G3. I mean, if other things are the same, what would you choose G3 or G4? what other advantages and disadvantages?
Thanks
Hello there.
I have a Dutch M600 (all the text is in Dutch) and it is quite, well, cumbersome. Is it possible to reflash it with some default (non-branded) let's say QTek S200 English ROM? I'm quite new to this and I do not know if the fact it was sold as custom-branded will make any problems.
If it is possible, give me some pointers (thread links, etc.) I searched but I didn't find this specific case to be touched. Thanks in advance.
Cheers

From what I understand the M600 is just a HTC Prophet, so yes you can flash a standard Qtek s200 WWE like this (the last official Qtek release) ftp://xda:[email protected]_S200_2.20.7.34_2.47.21_2.20.7.114_WWE.zip
As you're going from dutch to english you need to use the novendor romupdate utility ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Prophet/Tools/ROMUpdateUtility-NoVendorID.zip or another option is to CID unlock your M600 (for now only possible on G3 devices) It's all pretty simple, use search and read the forum and it will get you there.
In case of doubts, just ask, succes marl

Thank you , mate!
Your answer is exactly what I was hoping for. Until now I'm using M500 and because it has WWE F/W i wasn't interested in all these technical terms. Could you tell me what does it mean CID, AKU, and the other abbreviations that one can see here on the forum? How can I discover whether my Prophet is G3 or G4?
Cheers
one more thing. how can I make a backup so i can revert to the original ROM? just in case i need to get it repaired or i want to sell it. is it possible?
cheers

CID= Country ID (basicly it's prrotection so you can't use other firmware then the one your provider supplied) G3 device can be CID unlocked easly, G4 devices not. Check the last digits your bootscreen, if you see x.xx.000 it's G3, if you see x.xx.001 it's G4)
AKU= Adaption Kit Upgrade= Upgrades to the OS, provides fixes and new features (Like pushmail for example). Check out this URL http://www.mobile-review.com/pda/articles/wm-aku-en.shtml

CID unlocked devices you can backup to SD using terminal software over USB, use search on the forum. CID locked devices are a different story, but the XDA ftp contains most orginal vendor firmware. Most of the time restoring is not really an issue. Keep in mind that you can not downgrade IPL/SPL once you upgrade. You can downgrade the Extrom, OS and Radio without touching the IPL/SPL so this is normaly no issue.
Ayo, marl
This is what my PDA shows at start up:
IPL:2.09
SPL:2.09.0000
GSM: 02.07.20
OS: 2.9.7.24
Is it a G3 or G4 device? In the wiki it says that when SPL finishes in 000 is G3 and when it finishes in 0001 is a G4 device. But mine finishes in 0000! So, it's G3 or G4?
Thanks,
Daniel
Same question here I have a Qtek S200 as well.
I would say G3 but wait for others to reply. Look at my specs 2.09.0001 and it is a G4.
read the wiki guys...
the wiki is there to answer these questions...
here's the link:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Prophet
the answers are there.....
The wiki does not answer this question! You probably not even read my question, cause in the question I said the wiki doesn´t answer my doubt! So if you could help me I appreciate...
same here..mine has .0000 and i dont know if its G3 or G4..been looking for answers but...

right that was me.
seemed like a good idea at the time...
now I am not too sure
still say it's G3
but I have now removed this information as a precaution, until I get confirmation.
I have 2.10.0000 spl and had been advised to use G3 utility
I have used many without problems
Now on the Wizard thread I read the following:
G3 DEVICE: IPL/SPL: 1.XX or 2.XX or 2.XX.00X (only two zeros)
G4 DEVICE: IPL/SPL: 2.XX.000X(three zeros)
_Nomad_ said:
The only visible difference between a G3 and a G4 device is when you soft reset your device and looking at the IPL and SPL version numbers that occur during startup.
G3 DEVICE: IPL/SPL: 1.XX or 2.XX or 2.XX.00X (only two zeros)
G4 DEVICE: IPL/SPL: 2.XX.000X(three zeros)
Note, X is representing a number.
So, how do you go about to CID-unlock your device? First, do you really have to? Well, in one word YES!, in order to install most of the custom-made ROMs from this site you have to have a device that is CID-unlocked...
If you have a G3 device the solution is pretty straightforward. just look here...
If you have a G4 device you have to go to imei-check.co.uk and pay £20 in order to get it unlocked. But you can help develop a solution that doen't require you to pay for it. Have a look at this thread.
NOTE: There are several posts that mention this subject, some claim that using the imei-check.co.uk method will not CID-unlock your device but only unlock the SIM. THIS IS NOT CORRECT! Your G4 device will be unlocked after this procedure.
Finally, never, ever, flash your G4 device with a ROM that is intended for a G3 device, make sure that is either made for G4 or doesn't contain a bootloader. If you for some reason you do, you'll have damaged (bricked) your Wizard permanently...

so... for the Prophet? can someone clear this up once and for all? Mods?
So... The question remains: "SPL:2.09.0000 it's G3 or G4?"
I want to CID unlock my S200, but I'm afraid since I don't know for sure if it's G3 or G4...

Your S200 is G4!!!
SPL:2.09.0000 = 2.09.0000
2.XX.000X (Three Zeros) G4!!!

Based on the SPL version, that's a G4. Any ROM will be fine as long as it is marked as G4 safe, i.e. it contains no SPL code. Read carefully the ROM author's instructions and make sure it is compatible with G4 devices. Most recent ROMS are G4 safe, but some older releases may be for G3 devices only.
Before flashing, make sure you read the general instructions for flashing ROMs on G4 devices. Failure to follow them could brick your device!
About which ROM: that's a matter of taste. Read up on them, browse features and screenshots, check the user comments, and choose the one you like best. I'm using the TNT ROM by itsright and I'm happy with it. I have a G4 Qtek 9100 too.

Very true !
I'll just add here that always remember a G4 device can never be CID unlocked like a G3 device, but it can be upgraded to wm6 by applying methods 'HardSPL' or 'SoftSPL',read about them in the G4 forum posted as 'Stickies'
hi i have hts 8125.
IPL and SPL both are 2.25.
the phone is unlocked. just wonderind as it is a G3 phone can i upgrade to any available wm6 rom for wizard ? or are there any specific on for G3 phones ??
thank you
read the wiki, I can answer you here that you have a G3 phone but I don't want you to flash your phone without reading the stuff. cheers.
