Pirate Bay - General Topics

Would someone please post ROM files for Prophet, ie. ASERG's, JESTER's, and/or LVSW's or official ROMS as a torrent file in Pirate Bay (thepiratebay.org) They seem to be impervious to legal threats and subpoenas. Perhaps then, we can use that as the non official download place. Thanks.

Forgot to mention
Only if it doesn't break any forum rules or anything...

No no no. can't do that

I would suggest that a useful facility might be for those that made backups of the ftp before it went down let themselves be known discretely, so that those that need roms won't be left helpless.

Is it legal to post ROMs?

What is the legality of posting ROMs? Some other sites are blocking me from posting my HP4700 rom to help a guy out who needs the original. They claim it is illegal.
So, If you don't mind I will post it here?
https://www.moriahsweb.com/ipaq.rar
FYI, this place is amazing. I am thinking about getting XDAII again just so I can use this site again. Granted the VGA of the 4700 is awesome but it is just not as fun as all playing with all the hacks and modifications of the XDA.
Any one have any input on the legality of posting ROMs? I am quite interested.
Hey, my first post too
It's a good question.
Although I only installed an official i-Mate ROM at the weekend I don't remember if there was a licence agreement to click through when I ran it.
My guess is that ROMs are copyrighted software not for redistribution but I look forward to seeing an informed response.
Well here is some of the EULA
The EULA specifically says "The SOFTWARE is licensed, not sold." which I interpret as if you have a license for your device then you are legally entitled to use the copy. Plus Section 3 also stated that if the "download is labled 'For Recovery Purposes Only', you may install one copy of such DEVICE Software onto the HP iPAQ as a replacement copy for the existing DEVICE Software and use it in accordance with Section 1 of this EULA."
So if I am posting for the specific reason to be able to restore a device to its factory state it should be legal right?
I'm an accountant rather than a lawyer, but I would ask 'which download' ?
Is that saying that you can upload here with specific label to say "For Recovery Purpose Only" or is it saying that the ROM you downloaded from the operator / manufacturer site already has that restriction ?
Does it say anywhere that you can redistribute to others for recovery purposes only ?
This question fascinates me, but I apologise for boring others

Here is the actual paragraph
3. UPGRADES AND RECOVERY MEDIA
DEVICE Software. If the DEVICE Software is provided by the manufacturer separate from the HP iPAQ on media such as a ROM chip, CD ROM disk(s) or via web download or other means, and is labled "For Upgrad Purposes Only" or "For Recovery Purposes Only", you may install on copy of such DEVICE Software onto the HP iPAQ as a replacement copy for the existing DEVICE Software and use it in accordace with Section 1 of this EULA.
So this might be telling me that only the manufacturer can provide the Software? Maybe my providing the ROM falls into "other means".
Mostly I don't care if it is "legal" I am just trying to figure out what makes the other boards I posted on have a hissy fit.
I don't think so.
Nowhere does it give you permission to redistribute, which is why other forums worry about getting sued.
I don't care either but we all know how these companies operate.

Tomtom6 no maps found

I have downloaded TomTom v6.01 software and the Britain Map from XDA-Developers FTP server. I have tried it for the whole day but didn't get it work. I think I am not so weak in this technology but it seems I am a newbie here.
I did it the following steps.
1. Extract the TomTom_v6.01_install.zip, I found no .exe files in it, only a ttn6_setup.cab and other directories under directory of TomTom. I think this pack is for the installation on my PPC. So I copied the whole dorectory of TomTom to the PPC, under "My douments".
2. open file explorer, click on ttn6_setup.cab. It begins to install. It seems success is in my hand but,
3. after the installation finished, I extracted another RAR file which named Great_Britain_V650_Map.RAR. It creared another directory of Great_Britain_V650_Map. Entering into it, I found another directory of Great_Britain and some files under it. After reading some threads on the net, I created a directory on the SD card with the name of Great_Britain-map and then copied all the files into it.
4. Run TomTom navigator by click on start->programm->Tomtom, it went through some steps of setting language, voice, right or left hand, etc. Then it says "no maps found".
I have managed to sort this issue out in the whole day but invain. So anybody else can help me?
Thanks!
You can give this a try
- On your PC create a new text file (in notepad) called CurrentMap.txt
- In the text file write \Storage Card\Great_Britain_V650_Map\
- Save the text file
- Rename the txt file to CurrentMap.dat
- Create a folder on the device in the My Documents folder called TomTom
- Copy the new .dat file into the TomTom folder
Thanks for your reply. But still no happy.
I think I didn't do anything wrong. I followed the instruction on the net and did it in a right way. but it's strange.
Anybody else can help? Thanks!

Dear Raven2000 I appreciate your notice & complain about the piracy to the Moderators, you did a good job for that post, but sadly you have neglected someone's need, as TENMAN have asked the FTP address but you have forgotten to help him, didn't you? I think we should help a member specially if we know the answer for their query despite to think of their Juniority or Seniority.
Anyway the FTP address is as follows, I think you might need that as well:
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Software/TomTom v6 - Full Version with GB Map/
Please be helpfull

Tenman find the FTP address in my previous post, but according to my advice I have downloaded them and that TomTom is unable to search for the Maps (once installed). Finally I have managed to solve the problem with TomTom6+GB Map+Speed Camera. contact me on email.
GoodLuck
Sidd
There are some FlashDrv problems with TTN6 (or not supported issues).
You can easily overcome this by changing you "My Documents" shell folder
location. Point it at your card.

I didn't help as helping will lead to piracy. Surely having a copy of Great Britian maps on the FTP server is piracy?
Anyway, I am not taking any part in requests involving commercial applications. Besides dealing with piracy is the job of Administrators and Moderators, I don't know why I waste my time
So are you refering it to the ""Administrators and Moderators"", that they are keeping pirated stuff on their ftp?
Sidd
Without getting into the ins and outs of piracy.....
Did anyone find a conclusive way to make sure that TomTom 6.x picks up the maps on the SD Card...?
Yes I have Dibbler, email me on hotmail if you want the solution, its gonna be around 200mb, asap

I will say that we have been recently advised to remove Tom Tom from the FTP and we have complied..
This topic should not only be closed, but also deleted. Mods do your homework.
Guys, I can't believe you can be so bloody stupid.
I post and post about not distributing warez through this forum and the ftp and you guys still do it.
As I've said before this forum is a public resource - if you distribute warez through here, or "cleverly" upload it to the ftp you're not doing any of us favours. The mods have discussed this, but frankly I'm sick of guys abusing this board. We're not children. We all know how to use torrentz. Go and do your warez there. But not here.
I'm borderline on whether we should permit discussion on how to set up your clearly warez'd copies of TomTom or anything else, but frankly, this is going to be my policy as of today:
- I'm going to forward this thread to TomTom.
- I'm going to volunteer ip addresses for everyone on this thread so that they can take the matter up themselves.
And in future, if it happens again, I'm banning anyone who distributes warez. 1 warning, then an immediate ban. And if necessary, I'll start posting ip addresses publically in case any software author wants to take the issue up further.
Please note: I try not to be a hypocrite. I've expressly stated that the forum operates on a knife edge already
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1082343&postcount=5
but you can be significantly more sensible then posting warez, uploading or stating that you've downloaded them. This is your public posting, not mine. You are implicating yourself in the piracy, not me. We're a very open minded board, and what you do in your own time is your business. But do it publically and you risk yourself AND the board.
And if you risk the board, you put at risk something that I admire. Please don't do that. I've said before, if you're such a noob that you can't even find warez without someone showing you, write to me. I'll point you in the right direction. But please don't post or upload warez on this forum/ftp.
V
PS. I can't believe TomTom make it near impossible to find their email address. Lol, they really don't help themselves.

Dear sir or madam. I am a moderator of the website, xda-developers.com.
I direct your attention to the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1095468#post1095468
I am concerned that users are publically posting software which may consist of pirated copies of your software.
If you require assistance in identifying any of these members, please feel free to contact me.
Kind regards

Central ROM Storage | New Site | Theme Uploading

Tired of running around the web or through the forum to find the links to your favorite ROM and then having to wait to download it? Well so was I. So I took all the ROMs here and put them on my file server. You can find it at http://biggz.dontexist.com:14725/ . I have all the current ROMs up as well as the latest recovery and the asroot2 exploit. I'll try to minimize downtime as much as possible. I just wanted to give back somehow. If you want any other files hosted just let me know.
**New Site**http://roms.the-littles.com Thanks to sacker12345 for this!!
Its Spring time. Well almost. Anyway time to clean house. Anything you feel is not needed anymore let me Know below. If I get enough requests for the same file, say bye bye to it.
Notice: Please be patient my upload speed isn't the greatest. For the ROMs it may take up to an hour or more for a download to complete.
For Devs and Cookers only: If you would like to upload files directly to my server please pm me and I'll set you up with an account.
My Creations
Biggz Black Espresso Theme .1
Please let me know if you find any artifacts or fcs. If you can point to a particular file in it that would be a great help. Currently only applies to the system and none of the apps.
Please backup before this!!!
**NEW** FTP Server!!!
Now you can use your favorite FTP client to get your ROMs
Server is on the same address just one port up, 14726
User name is embedded in attached image to prevent bots.
The current items list is removed due to the fact that it is just too large now.
you'll kill yourself trying to keep up with newer rom's once more devs start cooking roms. it was tried in the dream forum but abandoned after a month due to to much upkeep.
Androidspin.com
although they dont have any CDMA as of yet.. its still a great place for kitchens
Well with all the work the devs do I figure I can do this up to date. I visit every time I look at my laptop so I can catch the new ones that come up.
I'd be very careful if I were you. I don't know anything about your domain, but bear in mind that lots of ROM downloads will chew through bandwidth allowances like nobodies business. Most domains will have strict limits as to how much traffic your site is allowed to generate.
Regards,
Dave
This is running off my personal computer so I can have as much as I need. The domain name is DNS mask.
Hmm, I'd add the RUU factory flash EXE on there, too. That thing was a real ***** to find.
hey thanks for putting this all together.you the maaannnn, lol.
XDA RULEZZ!!
Huge help.
Thank you!
Good work biggz.
thanks for the post
Thanks alot for putting this on here . you saved me for search and you had some stuff that couldnt be downloaded. Hey you should make this a sticky.
Just let you know, you are missing another CMDA Hero ROM: Gutted Hero 1.5.
Thanks for all the attention guys. If you want it stickied bug the mods!
You should consider putting links to the threads and sites of the roms. People can just use the search, but there are several I have never heard of on your list, and was looking for informations.

Hey, the 2.1 dev thread has been updated (just today in fact)... just to let you know.
Somewhere in the range of 170 downloads and 5.5 GB transferred. Thanks for the loyalty and helping me stick it to my ISP.

Rom and file storage

I have being a user of this site since my HTC FUZE, and from that day on I'm hook. Because not only it allows me to have my phone how I want it by flashing Rom's or
make my life easy with new member made apps.
And from day One it plagued me that wonderful chefs and people would upload there work to Mega upload and other Upload services, which don't get me wrong Is free and well they do there own thing. But what grind my gears was that you had to wait a few seconds and or you could only download one file per IP or whatever.
I friend and I are working on a service for all you chefs or people who have files to contribute to xda developers and then sum. Basically what this is, is a file hosting site for roms and kernels and other files related to flashing modifide phones. Currently I'm testing the site on my own server at home make sure things work well
Here are the features.
1. Free Because, you people(insert Robert downy jr joke here) do this with out charging us the users.
2. upload space of 500 megs (more to come)
3. when file is uploaded in your GUI there will be a link that will send you a email with the url of the file so you can share it with the world, Or here.
More to come. also please tell me what you think of this Idea and also I hope the mods put in a sticky or something so developers/chefs can see this and be updated for when we roll out the site. Also you may ask your self "why would they do that and lose money on server space and all this crazy shenanigans. Well We plan to put ad's (I know horrible frickin ad's :0) and if they hearts are willing donation would hurt. But please in no way is necessary.
Anywho I'm off Is late and as Im sure I misspell half of this post for lack of sleep please forgive me.

[Q] new Hosting sites for roms!?

I Haven't seen anyone address the recent actions of the government cracking down on the hosting sites. i just tried to see if could download a rom, and as i suspected most hosting sites are now restricted ( probably all under investigation, megaupload.com being the only one i know of getting shut down.)
anyway the question that i am trying to get across is,
Is there a hosting site that is safe to use for roms, or might roms have to go the torrent route(i would hate to see that)?
.
Thread moved to Q&A due to it being a question. Would advise you to read forum rules and post in correct section.
Failure to comply with forum rules will result in an infraction and/or ban depending on severity of rule break.
pardon my mistake i had many tabs open and thought i was in the questions one, should have made the extra check.
my Apologies .

im not quite sure where mediafiles servers are located, since the whole pipa and sopa thing happened, Hosting sites are getting restriced on what they can do, ( i am under asumption that they are under investigation) one example is :
- x x x.filesonic.com/file/OHSIyxs - replace the x's with w's
Have you tried DemonFile.com?
It's a new file hosting service with large file upload sizes.
Great for rom uploads.
