Treo 750 available unlocked! - Palm Treo 750

As of today Palm is selling the Treo 750 unlocked in europe, so you don't need a vodafone contract. Now my big question is, will Palm make available the rom on that phone (or an update) so that I have a clean rom on my 750v...

where did you see it available tjmvdz?
as stated on the palm website, the sale will start the 25th of Feb or something like that....but I think I would go for it earlier if it would be available

Unusually for Vodafone, the 750v has one of the cleanest WM5 ROMS I've seen on any PPC. The only bit of branding I can see is phone startup screen. So i don't think you'll gain much anyway.

I would like this ROM as it has HSDPA active in it. Would be nicer than that hack.
A

Oops, sorry! not available yet. I jumped the gun as I saw it on the Palm UK webpage.

They should ship it not only with HSDPA active, but also with an updated ROM and some other Palm improvements. For me personally I strongly hope that it will solve my reception problems when I am in roaming. It is a known and confirmed firmware problem.

mmm different websites like msmobiles.com and pocketpcthoughts.com said it was available as of today..

Cingular 8125 / MDA ? Thinking about buying it but have ?'s

I have been a Treo 650 user with cingular for 18 months now and have been happy with it. I have experimented with lots of the software available for download and enjoyed that a lot to. I have been looking for another phone and I just found a post by treonaut on the treo web site all about the MDA. The post was very good and has my attention but still I am very new to this MDA phone and am looking for some info. On the Cingular web site i found the model 8125 and am very interested in that cell. I think the 8125 is an MDA type cell, not sure if the MDA is a particular model or a catagory type cell. Next, as with the Treo 650 there is tons of software downloads to play with and experiment. Is there any software out to do the same with for these MDA cells? In particular the 8125? If so, ware do I find it all? I have been useing the xWeather program for my Treo and would hate to have to give it up along with many other programs that I use on my Treo. Next, are the sim cards the same? Can i use one from my 650 in the 8125 type MDA cell? OK, no more questions for now, I will stop here. I would really like to buy the 8125 after reading what treonaut had to say but will not jump. Thanks for any help offered ...
To answer your questions:
1. Cingular 8125=Tmobile MDA=HTC Wizard with each having very minor modifications.
2. Tons of software are also available for download for the 8125. All that stuff you saw in my review I did with built-in software or with freebies. I also have a program that puts the weather data on my Today page. To date, I have not bought a single WM5 program. Search xda-developers in the Wizard section. Also read the very good MDA and 8125 faqs over at howardforums.com. In general any program designed for Windows Mobile 5 (WM5) and the ARM processor should work with this series of devices. So do a google search for goodies.
3. Sims remain the same. I sometimes swap sims between the MDA and the 650 without a problem.
4. Check out Amazon.com for better pricing on the 8125/MDA.
Thanks very much for the info. I will check it out and most likely get the 8125 soon.. I want to make sure I know ware to get all the extra programs and understand how to install them. I have no clue about what cables i will need to hook it to my notebook and what software i will need to use to install things. The Treo is easy to install things with the Palm one quick install program so I need to find out what to use to do these things yet. Thanks again.
Wait and buy the 8525. It is coming in few weeks
400MHz processor
HSDPA
Etc..
Just made a deal with Cingular for a new 8125 with my corporate discount for 200 bucks. I will have same number and my 450 roll over plan with the unlimited data package for the same 53 bucks a month. It was a good deal so I took it. Now to find all the tricks and goodies

O2 Graphite

Picked up the O2 Graphite from Thailand over the weekend. Would it be possible to create a new forum for the phone ? Will post a little mini review of the phone
O2 graphite is an Asus.. we have great discrimination on non-HTC devices or else, the site may have been flooded with devices from HP, Asus, Treo.. although we have an exception of the Atom.
BTW I think there are folks who are looking at P525 cooked ROMs, etc on the forums. Not a problem. Just wanted to inform people about the new smartphone phone - its pretty a solid offering and beats the Breeze - but like most Windows devices, its not without it own oddities. Thanks
Someone knows if the 3G function will work in Israel (Orange Network)?
I think the Graphite is working on 2100 mHz, right? Whats it in Israel?
Orange Israel rep. told me they don't hand 3g sim cards to be installed in phones they do not market. You don't actually have to buy the phone from them it just has to be a model they work with. And since they don't sell any windows mobile smartphones they wouldn't give me a 3g sim card :-(

How to make my 750V to get 3.5G firmware ?

Is there a way ? or it is a hardware thing ?
Thanks
Use the SetHSDPA.exe application from the hermes...
They are both produced by HTC. The hardware is 3.5G capable just not enabled in the Vodafone ROMs,
Is there any updated ROM I can use ? I found this machine useability is more than my hermes inspite of non wifi and square screen...PALM tweaks it so good!!
If you can getthe shipping ROM for the open market 750 then that has 3.5G enabled.
Not sure where you can download it...
If not simply use the SetHSDPA.exe method - very easy!
when I bought the 750V (in around Sept 06), the Vodafone shop told me the HSDPA ROM will be ready in Mar 07... It seems no news and roadmap about that yet.
Can I sue them for cheating customers??????

I heard a rumour from a Vodafone source that Vodafone delayed the 750v update because they want to offer a WM6 update.
At the same time, a 750v successor is in the pipeline.
Personally, I think that we should expect a 750v successor any time soon, maybe late spring/early summer.

I kept on asking HongKong vodafone these days
They just said not yet released and they will not help me to upgrade to ver. 1.16 either because new update will be released soon.

When will the stable WM6 US T-mobile Rom be out?

When will the WM6 US T-mobile Rom be out? All of the WM6 Roms now have the miss call issue. Even with Radio:2.19, It works ok if I stay at one place. But if I was driving my car, I missed some incoming call. I hope someone will release a WM6 Rom which can work with the:
IPL:2.26 or higher
SPL:2.26 or higher
Radio:2.25 or higher.
When I spoke to a T-Mobile Rep they told me that I would have to upgrade to a phone that has WM6 existing on it in order to update. Hence that is the reason I CID and SIM unlocked my phone. I'm not going to buy a WING when my MDA does everything it will do, that is a pointless upgrade, not to mention I like my keyboard better and the WING doesn't have flash. So the upgrade is pointless.
It will be out never
you will have to buy a n model. I would also debate whether or not a providers rom is actually stable.
It all depends on were you live and what radio will work like i use 2.69 and i don't get missed calls while i do with 2.19
Yeah when I was at the tmobile store today changing my plan around they told me that they would not be releasing WM6 for the MDA and I'd have to buy a wing if I wanted wm6
Having a little experience trying to port the Wing OEM modules to the Wizard, I can assure you that the official T-Mobile ROM is as bloated as any dead, African hippo that ever graced the pages of Nat. Geo. and it's not too stable either.

half the roms here are bloated
I agree ANTC, but that one is even more so.

Australian TyTN II firmware upgrade

Hi I brought a HTC TyTN II a few weeks ago from an Australian supplier. The phone works great but when I try to install the “TOMTOM” navigation disk it says the ROM version is incorrect. I contacted HTS Australia, they say the unit is from Indonesia and so not supported here. Can anyone tell me where I can get an Australian ROM version? I am with Telstra for my mobile. I see lots of ROM versions on this site but not sure which one. ( sorry im new)
thanks
Tim
Yeah I'd like to get my hands on a current TyTN II rom for Australia.
I'm currently running Duttys latest rom which is working fine for the most part. I did have a small issue today where people on incoming calls couldnt hear me speak but a soft reset seems to have fixed that for now. Hope it doesnt come back
You can download it from http://www.asia.htc.com/Dopod_Aus/member/login.aspx You need to register with the serial number of an Australian phone to get access to the Australian ROMs. As far as I was aware the Australian (non branded TyTnII) phones ship with CoPilot and not TomTom. (At least mine did). So this may explain your TomTom issues.
Initially I flashed the Aust Hutch Three ROM to my phone but to be honest it really offers very little over the standard ROM other than the custom Three shortcuts which are easy enough to replace. I am with Three in Australia and very happily running Duttys Roms on my phone. I doubt flashing an Asutralian ROM will fix the TomTom isssue. I would be checking on its Authenticity and chasing it up with the supplier rather than HTC.
The Australian (non network branded) TyTn2's don't come with Tomtom taster, so an AU rom will not allow you to install Tomtom either... hope you didn't pay full AU retail price.
No Asian Tytn2 comes with Tomtom either AFAIK, even if it installs it will only give you a choice of US/Canada maps to download... making it useless.
Best bet is to buy Tomtom or another full version nav program. (and get onto whoever sold it to you asking why an "AU" phone would have the US nav taster (tomtom) bundled and not Copilot7 which is the official Australian bundled nav program.) If you got it from Ebay it is almost definately an asian grey market import... usually an SE Asia OEM phone (which have nothing bundled but Phone Backup, then some bad sellers include a useless US software disk to make it look more legit.)
I've got TomTom running on my TyTN II without a problem. All you have to do is go back one version to the .30 install and you wont have the rom issue. then you just need to copy all the maps and voices down to your storage card. I found the older version of TomTom on mininova.
Hi
My TyTN cam with Map King. I purchased TomTom as an option.
My ROM version is 1.82.707.0 WWE from 11/03/07, so its old. The phone has been working fine until i tried io install the Tomtom. I am also on the Telstra network. Thanks for the feedback so far.
regards
Tim
