Asian characters
Hello john,
It might not be the answer you need or the easiest, but this is my trick :
Change your Rom to an asian rom
If you still want english menus, I think there is a soft that have been developped to then change in english (or other languages). search Asukal posts.
ok, not the easiest...
cheers

Hi dam,
i want to use an english Rom, so it's really not the easiest way
i have find out, that i need the unicode fonts. Google says that this font is 22MB big, so i need to put the font on my memory card. There is a program called "Font on Storage" but this program doesn't work with WM5 :-(
Is there some similar way or program?
thanx.
John

Request update Tornado WM6 WWE (English+chinese language support)

andot,
first of all, you've done a great job on the updated WM6 ROMs. but as of now, those who use english interface and need to read and compose chinese occasionally have dilema on which ROM to choose. the only available one is WWE you released some time ago but it is quite outdated and buggy.
we are requesting for you to release an updated version on WWE where users can have the best of both worlds (English interface + chinese language support like those found in original dopod 577w) including bug fixes such as camera, GPRS issues, Wifi, comm manager, etc. i like the fact that much of the UI is untouched with no fancy clocks or bars in the old WWE build.
once again, THANK YOU very much for your hard work!
Nop, it is not the best of both world, it is the best for your world only. Most of us here do not require Chinese file, what we want is to make the ROM as CLEAN as possible, if you want chinese, you can always install the langpacks and fontpack, if you do some research, you can get it.
Or, safe the hassle, pay for CE-star
what can i say?different people have different needs. one man's meat is another man's poison. you cant expect everyone to think like you.
besides, andot's tornado WWE ROM has ~ 18MB ROM on fresh format, that's a lot of space increase compared to original WM5 ROM.
installing aditional language pack is a hassle and increased space usage a lot more than when embedded in ROM. i've tried PEE before, also has about 18MB ROM left. installed chinese language alone would take ~5MB, not to mention it doesn't work prefectly.
If andot decides to update the Tornado WWE WM6, there are people, especially asians will use it. other "so called senior member" who cant think in other people's shoes might not appreciate it, but i'll very much thank you for it.
Install Ce-star as I've said somewhere to some guy. It takes about 5MB space. I think you can install the trial version and use it without problem as they only charge you for the input not for the Chinese support. If you want Chinese input you can always install Plum SIP. It is totally free and much better than the Ce-star Chinese input.
Whether the langpack is embeded in the ROM or not does not make any difference, when cooking a ROM, the files are added, and registry are modified before flashing. If you install the langpack after flashing, you add the files, you modify the registry
And there is no need for your sarcastic comment.
FYI, I did PM melgurth a few times and discussed with him on how I can port the chinese T9 and language pack form Dopod AKU2 ROM.
If only I have the time, I will try to cook a ROM for chinese users, just that my exam is approaching and it is not wise to spend so much time for it now.
I think I offended you in my earlier post, my apology for that
please accept my apology too. but i must stand firm on my side that there are people who need both languages in one device, at least im one of them. im not trying to cause any trouble here.. just hoping andot will fulfill our needs if he has the time to spare.. or maybe you can do it, since (correct me if im wrong) you need it too..
Coolcode.cn has best WM6.0 English and Chinese version.
it is great!
I tried to import the T9 chinese files from AKU2 to my phone yesterday, so far I managed to get T9 pinyin, but it only shows boxes, I think I need to modify the font
Ok, I managed to port the T9 pinyin and T9 stroke file over to WM6, however I only can view them as blocks which mean I have some problem with the fonts, I duno why I just cant view Chinese character despite trying so many fonts.
Anyone have suggestion ?
try asking andot for help? i fully support your effort (or andot if he has time to build updated WWE with bug fix)!

u really missed something, u only have the input method doesnt means u can view chinese word, however it might fix with a font cab, u can download it over HERE . Please notice that after u install this cab your english characters will become so small, i know it can fix using registry threat but i dunno how to fix it, good luck!
Yea, I know, that is why I said I have problem installing the font. No matter what font I used, I still get blocks.
We can actually just add the font file but don't set it as system font, so the characters wont be small, im trying to do that, gonna hard reset first

Do U mean u need an English interface but still can read chinese? I hope i dint misunderstand...... what i did was, i install the chinese font cab 1st, after reboot will become chinese interface, then go to setting>regional settings> Set Locale to English(US) then reboot, will become english interface with chinese support, but font remain so small lol...hope it helps.
Can you post the cab file here? Cause I am pretty finished, except for installing the font, I tried to install the font by copy the neccesaries file and create new registry keys by referring to the regisry on AKU2 ROM
What I did was this
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontPath]
"FontPath"="\windows\Fonts"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink]
"Courier New"="\windows\Fonts\sunfon.ac3,SC_Song"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink]
"Nina"="\windows\Fonts\sunfon.ac3,SC_Song"
I hope I can solve this problem if you can pass me the cab file
Yes, I need an English interface but can compose and read chinese SMS

I already post it on my #11 reply, it was http://rapidshare.com/files/53340896/Chinese-WM6_Sung.zip.html
I DID IT !!!, it worked !
But i'm going to say, this is the most ridiculous registry system ever, ill try to make a cab now including the font file
System font looks perfect !
Now there is only one minor bug (fixed)
I also realized a simple typo in the ROM, I fixed it, and now it unlocks the option to change between languages ( dont see any use of it )

Lol, congratulations man
ITS ALL FIXED, everything is fixed,
Now, T9 Pinyin = pinyin
T9 Stroke = stroke
Now, I just want to package it into cab file
Btw, do you guys think Sunglobe.ttf ( true type font ) or sunfon.ac3 ( compressed font format ) looks better? Difference is only few kb
Hmm, I actually spent 1 whole day to do this thing, and I screwed my OS in the process, thank god its perfected now
Alright, done, please try and give me your feedback
http://rapidshare.com/files/53386427/T9_Chinese_by_karhoe.cab
Remmember to reboot your phone
If this works well, I will cook it into Phil's BETA II together with Chinese localization files
Cab includes font file, sunglobe.tff, this one takes 3MB, the 2nd smallest size I had, the other one is sunfon.ac3 ( compressed font ), found in Dopod AKU2 ROM, but difference is only a few KBs
Good work there Karhoe! i don't have my phone with me now so i cant be sure if it works, but im pretty sure from the screenshots it does work.

HTC Tytn II Rom Flash

Hello!
After reading and reading the Wiki for flashing the ROM to my Tytn II, I think I am ready. I still have a few questions ...
I have chosen to use the MicroSD card route as that seems easier to me. I just bought my Tytn a couple of days ago so I have the WM6 Professional CE-OS 5.2.1620 Build 18125.0.4.2 ROM version 1.56.413.2 Radio Version 1.27.12.11 running. It is in Swedish and I want the language to be in English. Do I have to downgrade first in order to be able to flash the WWE version ... in effect flashing twice?
Also, when I dowload and rename the ROM image I want, do I put the whole thing on the formated MicroSD card?
I have never synced my phone with my PC so that shouldn't be a problem right?
Thanks for the help!
Scarlet
Hi Scarlet,
Without actually answering any of your questions (sorry...), just a comment: with a Swedish TyTN II you have a Swedish keyboard also, don't you? I'm not 100 percent sure that the WWE ROM supports the Swedish keyboard layout so once you finished flashing you will have to expect issues with this...

Hi Abubasim!
You are correct, my keyboard does have åäö swedish characters. I was thinking I could flash the WWE ROM and then use the Swedish CAB to fix the keyboard mapping ... eller hur?
Jag är inte saker. Förstår du vad jag menar?
Scarlet
Hej Scarlet,
Although I haven't tried it myself, it sounds like worth a try. Check with other Swedes (or Turnips ) in this forum or maybe even other TyTN II owners back home there in Sweden.
Yes, I understand "jag är inte saker", means literally "I am not things" if you skipped the umlaut over the a in saker on purpose (Jag är finsk själv, men med svenskt medborgarskap.)

Good morning!
I have written to a couple of swedes, but no help there ... boooo!
No you caught me, I missed an umlaut ... swedish is my second language, I am originally from sunny southern california .
I think I am going to go for it on my own. I have had this phone burning a whole in my pocket for days and I can't stand it!
Wish me luck!
Yes, good luck to you. Be careful and read the updating threads and the Wiki thoroughly before attempting. I messed up my previous phone, the i-mate JASJAM when attempting ROM flashing by using a microSD card (the phone crashed in the middle of the update and became a brick but luckily I got it repaired under warranty[!]) so I will not try this path with my new TyTN II until I see real benefit worth the risk.
BTW, you have the best profile photo I have seen on this site. Is that you?
I hear you. I gave up on the MicroSD method and am now trying to use the Kaiser CustomRUU to extract and install the nbh file. I think there is something wrong with the NBH file I am trying to you (or i did something wrong ). Either way, I downloaded it and put it in the same folder as the KaiserCustomRUU program but i get a file error once I run the utility?? I am looking for a new file now to try!
Yes, that is me ... thanks for the nice words. I seem to be the only chick around that is way to into technology and cell phones ... I'm always attempting some type of shananigans ....
I sent you a PM by the way!

Re: SD Flash
Personally I'd recommend just using the USB flash method since that's what the vast majority of us use without flaw. The overriding important thing would be to make sure you install HardSPLv1 (available from the stickies in Kaiser Upgrading) to keep from bricking your device should the flash fail for any reason.
As for the keyboard, a cab file, or Schaps Advanced Config v1.1, or a registry edit will work just fine. What you'll end up with after one of those three is your English device with a keyboard that inputs exactly what you see (Swedish characters too).
The one downside to this is the word completion...when you switch the keyboard's language you'll have to also install that languages' dictionary for word completion to work, and in your case that would mean Swedish word completion. Although It may be possible to link the English dictionary? I never tried it myself with the German Hermes I had...

Thanks so much for the suggestions guys! I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT AND GOT IT GOING!!!! Turns out I didn't unpack the ROM rar file first. I just downloaded and renamed it ... duh! Once i figured out to *unzip* the rar file using WinRAR, then I found the right file, renamed it and used the CustomRUU deal. ROM was changed along with the language in about 10 minutes. I used the CAB file also to fix my keyboard to still give me the right mapping for the swedish keyboard! I have been working on this phone for 2 LOOOONNG days and I finally figured it out.
Now I have to figure out why my internet is not working ... I'm trying to download my one free map from TOMTOM and i'm getting no love! I'll get it ... more reading to do!
Thanks so much for the support ...
Hugs and kisses!

Depending on what ROM you used its likely your settings are not proper for your provider (or do not exist at all). Personally I prefer the latter since all the "automatic" T-Mobile configurations only use the slow APN.
I recommend searching for settings for your provider and inputting them as necessary. Unless you're talking about Wi-Fi in which case you'll probably have to go under connection settings and specify that your network card connects to "The Internet" (it defaults to Work).

Sorry, I didn't read all of your post - you've already got HardSPL but I'll leave the info in to helps anyone else if they need it..
Possibly not the correct place to post the question, but it was so politely written I can't resist answering
Most of the roms cooked in this forum are in English language (maybe all of them except some versions of Schaps). For someone new who wants a good stable rom without having to do too many customisations I'd recommend the full versions of Dutty's latest, Schaps 4.30 or Sleuth.
Don't forget to hard SPL before you flash any ROMS and also check which radio will work with which rom here. If you get stuck with HardSPL, DO NOT flash any roms until you get this sorted (rom flashing is easier than HardSPL).
Most importantly, READ, READ and READ again before trying anything until you become more familiar. Start with the WIKI which is the root of all knowledge.
Oh yes, welcome to the forum

Would this work ? Language issue.

Hi all,
I am still using my old universal, a device which is with me already 3 years now.
It is used with WM5 and I am using the Resco Keyboard to have Cyrillic next to my Latin keyboard.
Would I be able to buy a Raphael with WM6 and an English ROM and then install the old Resco Keyboard Software on there to get my Cyricllic ?
I could buy the device in Russia, means I get even a double character set on the keyboard. Perfect would be if I could use the keyboard for both languages in my mails.
What I do not want is the OS to be in Russian, that's why the usual firmware is not an option. I understood from the HTC hotline that changing the OS language normally is not possible, as it was impossible with my Universal.
Anybody have experience with WM5 software from Resco on this WM6 device ?
Best regards,
Ruud

T*Omnia English Translation of menus and Dialogs from Korean..How??

Hello all
A friend of mine is living in Korea will bring me his new T-Omnia next week. The ROM that comes with it is in Korean and he has some trouble navigating though it as everything is in Korean. I tried to find a WWE ROM for the T*Omnia but got nothing.
Question: is there an easy way to translate the menus and dialogs to English.
It won't be that easy. The T*Omnia is sold only in Korea, so no WWE ROM's exist for it. There are software solutions that can translate the menus in russian or bulgarian but I don't think something similar exists for english as it is the default language if WinMobile If course you can try to hack some other translation of WinMobile (bulgarian for example) and apply it to the T*Omnia but there are still 2 issues:
1. No guarantee that such a solution will work with korean ROM. It's intendet to localize WWE ROM's. On the other hand a friend of mine localized a NL Diamond ROM successfully, so it may be worth a shot
2. The T*Omnia has a (still) non-standart resolution. Just look at the HD compatibility list for problematic apps So this is also a possible issue.
Anyway. Here is the link to such a localization program. It supports a number of languages, so it may be of some help to you.
http://sunnysoft.com/software.php?idarticle=146
you could always cook us an english rom- i would love a T*Omnia running english!!!
none of the software in the link seem to have the ability to localize to english
i guess having the ability to simply have the main menus in english is "good enough" untill Samsung releases a WWE version of the rom. if someone can help with that, that would be great.
anybody can help with this?
I second this - I have a sch-m490 could anyone cook an english rom.
Same here, need that rom badly. Anyone please?
BUMP please help with this. Im in korea and i really cant use my phone right now. I couldnt enjoy my omnia. Please please help.
Please guys im so desperate here. Anyone please.

How can I read Chinese on HD2?

Hi, I recently got a HD2 and I've realized that it can't display Asian (specifically Chinese) characters. Everything comes up as blocks....I'm just wondering if there's a way to get around this? Is there any way to make it so the HD2 is capable of showing the Chinese characters? Thanks in advance
As far as I know, you need to flash a ROM that handles double-byte characters. My Hong Kong HD2 has an English interface, but also can read/type chinese characters.
I found the official English Asian version of the ROM at HTCPedia here, which is probably what you need.
search for a SUNGLOBE PATCH. then it will display it. even does japenese characters.
good luck!
Look for sunglobe.cab for a quick installation. This is only for viewing chinese characters; japanese characters will not be shown, and you cannot enter chinese characters without the proper input method.
And while unrelated to this matter, here is a manual fix for viewing japanese characters on WM 6.5 I had to make a few days ago:
1. Grab the files meiryo.ttc and meiryob.ttc from your PC's font folder (C:\Windows\Fonts), provided it has them (Vista or newer, I'm not sure about XP)
2. Copy them to your HTC HD2 (or if it doesn't work, copy them somewhere else on your PC then on your HD2)
3. Move them on your HD2 to the \Windows\Fonts folder
4. Use the following registry file (copy-paste in notepad, save as .reg on your device, execute):
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\SkipTable]
"Tahoma"="00a5,007e,0391-03c9,2026,2116,221a,25a0-25ff"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink]
"Arial"="\\Windows\\fonts\\meiryo.ttc,Meiryo"
"Times New Roman"="\\Windows\\fonts\\meiryo.ttc,Meiryo"
"Courier New"="\\Windows\\fonts\\meiryo.ttc,Meiryo"
"Segoe Condensed"="\\Windows\\fonts\\meiryo.ttc,Meiryo"
"HelveticaNeue LT 35 Thin"="\\Windows\\fonts\\meiryo.ttc,Meiryo;\\windows\\tahoma.ttf,Tahoma"
"Helvetica Neue OTS"="\\Windows\\fonts\\meiryo.ttc,Meiryo;\\windows\\tahoma.ttf,Tahoma"
"Tahoma"="\\Windows\\fonts\\meiryo.ttc,Meiryo"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontPath]
"FontPath"="\\Windows\\Fonts"
5. Soft-reset your HTC HD2
Then japanese characters should show up everywhere and be linked correctly.
inputting chinese is not what he asked. that is related to ezinput and another ballgame. rhats funny that the sunglobe patch i have CAN do both chinese and japanese. so dont have to confuse the person who requested for it.
does anyone have the link to the sunglobe cab? i tried to find it but couldn't....

Thats not true... I have both on my phone and its fine... but I use the ricky Chinese cab thats floating around somewhere... the 21mb version gives me full Chinese reading, sogou gives me a great ime (and i also have plumsip and touchpal but got rid of the A4 as it didnt work so well for me) and with the ricky cab I also get China PRC in my regional settings... before I would only get this with CE Star which I havent put on my phone as the others all do a better more finger friendly job...
