Thanks to XDA-Developers forum member KTamas, my attention was pointed to Russian Pocket PC site Hpc.ru’s latest article on the HTC 2007 roadmap.

If you would really like to know what devices HTC (the elading manufacturer of Pocket PC Phone Edition devices) will come up with, give the article a try – it’s really cool! It also contains a LOT of information on for example the new, hard disk- and GPS-enabled supergeek device, the HTC X7500 Athena. Also its price – a whopping $1700! (Huh, you can get an OQO for that!!!) Another moot point seems to be the keyboard – I don’t think it’ll be so good as, say, that of the HP Jornada 720 (not just because of the size difference, of course). Unfortunately, it’s still not known whether it’ll have goodies like TV receiver / USB host / hardware 3D acceleration).
Unfortunately, there isn’t much information on the other flagship model, Omni, in the article.
Note that some words in the article haven’t been translated into English; if you don’t speak Russian, with some guesswork, fortunately, they’re pretty easy to understand. For example, 'для видеотелефонии' means 'for video phoning' (yeah, it's nice to be able to speak Russian too ).

HTC Wings
looks nice well it would if it had a touch screen :S
HTC X7500
looks too big and expensive
the rest seem more evolution then revolution

HTC Artemis

http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/08/14/htc_artemis_details/ ... Not seen any details of this phone on the forums here yet; anybody got any more info, besides the short list of technical specs given on the Reg article? Anybody know when this thing is actually coming to market, or how it'll compare to the other HTC smartphones in terms of the actual user experience? This looks like a VERY tasty little phone, but I wish I knew more about it
That said, I do see in the wiki's 'unofficial' section the 'ARTEMIS', but the Register article spells it Artemis (which is how I'd expect it), linking to a Navigadget article which also spells it Artemis (as opposed to Engadget's 'artimes' spelling)... Which one is correct?
No pretty much what you read in the artcile and the wiki is the extent of the knowledge on this device so far. Its to be released in Q4 2006 so possibly late october.

Sweet looks, but no UMTS and a rather slow processor. Link above casts doubt on Wifi.

Mobileburn.com and PDAMania Publish Great Bluetooth Stereo Headset Roundups

Bluetooth (wireless) stereo headphones and A2DP are, in addition to Push Mail, the current buzzwords. Just wanting to purchase one of them myself (I think I'll buy the Plantronics Pulsar 590A tomorrow - your opinions?), I've been thoroughly scrutinizing user opinions and reviews on the different models. During this, I was delighted to see English site Mobileburn and (unfortunately, non-English) PDAMania having both published some really-really cool roundups on some more recent headsets.
The (English) Mobileburn article can be found here and is really-really recommended. It contains a lot of detailed for example compatibility information and, as it's a comparative roundup, is far more useful than any non-comparative "review" (it, for example, directly compares the sound quality of each headset).
The PDAMania.hu review can be found here (second part; the first can be found here; it may be worth checking out for, say, the shots).
My readers know for sure I like translating or, at least, summarizing worthy reviews written in "obscure" languages (for example Finnish) into English (yeah, being European has certain advantages; for example, knowledge of several local languages); these articles are no exception. That is, here's a quick comparison chart I've created based on the information found in these two, latter articles (with some added tidbits based on the Mobileburn roundup):
(Note that if you encounter rendering problems, you can also access the chart here)

Paragon updates arkanoid clone Another Ball to v2.0, adding VGA support

It was half a year ago that I reviewed Paragon Software's breakout / arkanoid clone Another Ball, then, in version 1.8. Now that the developers have just updated it to version 2.0, adding, for example VGA support, I've given the new version a thorough try.

First and foremost, I need to point out that the new version is more or less a direct port / reimplementation of the Palm OS version, as opposed to the old, 1.8 one, which was a genuine Pocket PC (Windows Mobile) game. This, unfortunately, also means that, while it does support VGA on VGA devices (in Portrait mode only), it completely lacks in-game music. What is more, while the Palm OS version does support stereo sound, this one doesn't - version 1.8 still did.
All in all, in my opinion, the new version is NOT worth upgrading to, particularly if you liked the music in the 1.x series. Also, it's, in my opinion, not really worth comparing to major, much more sophisticated (existing and VERY good in-game music) titles like Acky's Breakout. That is, this title shouldn't be the first game you check out, should you want to play a breakout clone. Go for Acky instead - or, for that matter, the latest (1.1 as of now) version of BallRush Aqua. They are way better.

Windows Mobile phones from Chinese brands - yay or nay?

Hi, I am off to China for a short holiday in a fortnight, and was thinking of buying a mobile phone while I'm there. China is like the Burgess shale of mobile phones, with hundreds of form factors, operating systems and features, most of which will become extinct in what seems like a few months!
Anyway, I was looking on eBay (as usual) for a preview of what to get and encountered 3 Windows Mobile 5 phones. I was wondering whether anyone has any experience with these devices, and whether they are any good. They are all pretty cheap, and no doubt even cheaper in China!
I think this is called the V111:

This one is the "Hoilday Q9" (how cute!):
And this one is the Hauyu P30:
Edit: I just had to post this bonus - a phone which looks like an HTC Herald/P4350, but which fails by not actually running Windows Mobile!
Check this out.....The Asus P750 available in Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Malaysia.
http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/index.php?action=expand,56871
The Asus looks really, really nice, but what I'm looking for is a really cheap phone from one of the less reputable brands. I used to use two HTC Phones (a Magician and a Universal) but currently have a Ubiquio 501 (for me it is the perfect balance of size and functionality) so I'm not averse to experimenting a little on gadget paths less well-trodden.
When you really get down to it virtually all WinMo phones are made in China/Taiwan. I'm just wondering whether, in the perceived lack of quality control from unknown brands, any of these are actually any good!

Fancy on Android phone with keyboard?

Good afternoon, community!
Some time ago I started to think about mobile devices with full keyboards - but all what I found were tablets like 2 in 1 and they still didn’t looked good enough. I remembered my Nokias 9 series with beautiful S80 on board, what I have used to write course assignment at Uni, to write job applications, etc. By the same time I’ve been working in retail and used to sell this kind of devices - as well as legends like Qtec 9000. People loved it. So, I’ve decided to move forward!
I have created a concept of smartphone in notebook form-factor:

}
3d model can viewed here https://skfb.ly/RHDK
Inspired by Psion 5 series, so it would have a proper QWERTY, and as Nokia 9 series, it would have 2 screens - inside and outside.
According to concept, it should work on modified version of android with access to linux apps, with factory root access and open boot loader for community ROMs.
I have contacted some ODM factories to get estimation for production, and got some advice on cost reduction, to edit concept - for available mainboard and screens - FHD, because its too expensive to produce specific ones.
So, if there is anyone who is interested in such product - you are very welcome leave your suggestions, ideas and comments!
There is a massive work still to be done before I would go for crowdfunding, so any help would be appreciated!
What type of keyboard would prefferable, laptop type, when screen is on the lid, or sliding out? Or anything else?
