ActiveSync Internet Pass through - General Topics

What is internet pass through? Internet pass though allows the device to share PC/Laptop internet with the device. To set it up you need to go to ActiveSync on your PC/Laptop and click File---> Connection Setting. Then where is says “This computer is connected to” change it “work network” or “The Internet”. If you are behind a firewall, please make sure that the Active Sync allows access to the internet. When the device is not cradled open Active Sync on your device tab Tools--> Options--> Options ---> Maintain connection. Soft reset your device and you are ready.

Computer Internet Sharing

Any application or way to share computer internet connection to Windows Mobile 5 using USB cable?
Should happen automatically as long as ActiveSync is running and has established at least a Guest partnership. You may also want to check "This computer is connected to" in ActiveSync connection settings.
uzbek
i did ones worked fine via active sync but i could do it again message came up like i need to check my connection
Just disable the proxy in the Proxy Manager of the Programs screen.

activesync stops after internet sharing

I updated to the lovely windows 6. I could sync to my XP computer no problem until I've used the internet sharing utility. Then everytime I connect the phone to the computer, the computer networks with the internet sharing utility and activesync doesn't get a look in.
If I delete my vodafone 1240 from the activesync devices I can start again until I use internet sharing again.
I need both. How can I stop internet sharing so that activesync will again recognise the computer? I connect via the usb port.
Try to accept wireless connection in ActiveSync.
not sure if it will work for you, but what worked for me (HTC touch pro, custom ROM PROven):
1. go to Settings on your HTC, Connections, USB-to-PC, select ActiveSync radiobutton, uncheck the "Ask me first about...." checkbox.
2. connect your phone using active sync.
3. disconnect (unplug)
4. go to that same settings again. Now select the other radiobutton (DiskDrive), AND check the "Ask me first..." checkbox.
When you now again connect your phone, it will (hopefully) ask what connection you want to make.
Otherwise, try changing the order of the above actions.
hope that helps.
In case if the above post doesn't help
Activesync on PC uses LAN interface for data transfer between PC and WMPhone.
When you enable internet connection sharing it changes some connections' settings to manual - i.e. 192.168.0.1. So make sure that your LAN interface that is used by activesync, is set to get IP address automatically.

modem

I would like to use my HTC Cruise as a modem.
So that it is possible that i have the internet on my laptop.
From my mobile.
I know that it is not usual to do this all the time. But for know it not working.
can somebody help me?
I'm french but plug the PDA on your PC with USB cable
And in program you must have a program internet share (I don't know if in english it is the good word)
Launch it and click on connect
I tried to find it,
but when I connect it to my pc with my usb cable. I only get the program to synchronise. Because it's Vista.
How do i find the internetconnection anywhere else?
this program is on the PPC start -> program
On Vista you need Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 that you can download from: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx. It comes in both x64 and x86 flavors.
You also need to run the Internet Sharing application on your phone. On my unbranded HTC Touch Cruise there was no link to that application in Start/Programs. What you have to do, is to go into the Windows folder and run the IntShrUi.exe.
I'm not quite sure, but I think that it automatically creates a link for you in your Programs folder (Windows\Start Menu\Programs\). If it doesn't, you can do that yourself. The link should also be in the windows folder (IntShrUi.lnk) and you can just copy that manually to your Programs folder.
ovidiaconescu, I have an unbranded Cruise as well with the Stock ROM and had that icon in Programs. Don't remember doing anything to get it there.
Internet Sharing app is on the PPC. Here are directions, note that these are from someone else's post in another thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337714) I have put them here for convenience:
To set up your device as a USB modem
1. On your device, tap Start > Programs > Internet Sharing.
2. In the PC Connection list, select USB.
3. In the Network Connection list, select the name of the connection that your device uses to connect to the Internet.
4. Plug in the USB cable between your device and the computer.
5. Tap Connect.
To end the Internet connection
On the Internet Sharing screen, tap Disconnect.
To set up your device as a bluetooth modem
1. On your device, turn on Bluetooth and set it to visible mode.
2. Initiate a Bluetooth partnership from your device
3. Tap Start > Programs > Accessories > Internet Sharing.
4. Select Bluetooth PAN as the PC Connection.
5. From the Network Connection list, select the name of the connection that your device uses to connect to the Internet.
6. Tap Connect.
7. On your computer, set up a Bluetooth Personal Area Network (PAN) with your device:
For Windows Vista:
a. Click Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center.
b. Click Manage network connections and then under Personal Area Network, double-click Bluetooth Network Connection.
c. In the Bluetooth Personal Area Network Devices dialog box, select your device, then click Connect.
For Windows XP:
a. Tap Start > Control Panel > Network Connections.
b. Under Personal Area Network, click the Bluetooth Network Connection icon.
c. Under Network Tasks, click View Bluetooth network devices.
d. In the Bluetooth Personal Area Network Devices dialog box, select your device, then click Connect.
8. On the Internet Sharing screen on your device, check if a connected status is displayed, which indicates that your computer has been successfully connected to the Internet using your device as a Bluetooth modem.
Do you think it's possible to do the same kind of thing to access internet with an Archos 605 ??
Hi,
I succeeded to access internet by my WAP connexion mobile on my computer. But some website like gmail or hotmail are not reachable... Does someone have any idea?

Lame question, WMDC + I-net

Ok, here's the problem.
How to configure my connection, so when I connect my device to Windows Mobile Device Center it can connect to the internet. When I set the Internet Connection Sharing, my phone stops syncing, it's as if I haven't connected it, and it continues, until I remove the ICS. Bridge isn't working aswell. I need it, so I can download QuickGPS and Weather info.
right i think i know what you mean. You want to access the internet on ur device when it is synced yes?
DOnt use internet connection sharing on the device, that is if you want to use your device as a modem (so to speak) using the phone network as an internet connection for your computer.
What you need to do is in WMDC (active sync in my case as i have xp) settings, ensure that in the connection settings "this computer connects to the internet" is selected. You should then be able to get internet thru your computer on your device whilst still syncing.
Let me know how it goes as i dont have WMDC (i dont like vista.... yet)
I meant I used Internet Connection Sharing on my PC nework adapter, sharing with the "Mobile Device Network".
WMDC is configured as "This computer is connected to: The Internet", but it still doesn't connect.
it doesn't work for me too; WMDC is configured as "This computer is connected to: The Internet"

Activesync seetings - browse web and sync to local exchange without changing settings

it's seems that i can't find the right settings. I sync to an exchange server 2007 from my company. My configurations are already set up and works fine with a minor issue that i wish to solve.
- When i am over wifi or EDGE my phone just sync perfectly. I have a VPN connection, and activesync has the internal IP of the Exchange server. So i had set up an exception on settings-connections-connections-advanced-exceptions with the IP of the internal server. That forces the device to login to the VPN when i manually start a sync from the device.
- When i am over the PC (USB), on my LAN, and Activesync form the PC has the "This computer is connected to:" "Automatic" or "The Internet", it doesn't sync because the device tries to login to the VPN, which is not possible from inside the LAN. I had to change the PC ActiveSync option to "Work Network" as you can see on the attach picture in order to let the device sync on both scenarios (USB and Wifi/Edge) which works perfect. So, what's the problem? That when i use "Work Network" while connected through USB, the device can sync to local exchange, but can't connect to the internet (for example to browse a page). So i have to change that PC Activesync option every time i want to sync or browse the web.
Can anyone suggest me any configuration that let me do all the things (sync through the VPN when i'm on Wifi/EDGE, sync from PC when i am on USB on the LAN, and browse the web when i am also on USB without having to manually change Activesyn PC Settings?
Thanks!!!
