Any app available to download all my sms messsages to desktop as .txt files? - General Topics

I want to completely wipe my xda IIi and rebuild but am looking for a way to save all my sms messages as individual .txt files (so that i can archive them to my desktop). I have about 2000 sms messages.
I was wondering whether there was an application (preferably free) that would automatically do this for me?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Search the forum.

I had a look before posting but couldn't find anything. I'll have another look now

MMS Viewer

Hi
If anyone knows of an MMS viewer could you let me know- for some reason my inbox lists mms files but won't open them, even though they are there (since I changed ROM)
I have some important MMS I can't open...so I need a program that will let me read them. If anyone could make one there will be a reward on offer....
if it was in relation to a restore and it also happens with sms and mails once in awhile
then it's the db that is going mad and no view can access the infomation
maybe everything but the title is gon
or maybe that program pocketpc db something something can fix it
As far as I can gather, the db for MMS simply links to the .dat file that contains the actual content...
so what I need is a way of opening the .dat file, or fixing the broken links (about 130 of them!)
Anyone got any ideas?
I know the dat file is in SMIL format...but no idea how to get those to open on pocket pc..help will be appreciated and rewarded!
If you have the dat files, and you are interested in getting out the pictures, this can be done using a hex editor after you have copied the dat files to your pc.

How to alter Send as vCard behavior?

As a rule, I use neither SMS or MMS, but need to send Contact details by email frequently.
I note that people have previously asked how to change the Send as vCard behavior to use email accounts instead of MMS. But the questions are a little old now.
Does anyone have an answer yet, either for WM6.0 Smartphone or WM6.1 Touchscreen?
Thx.
*bump*
I sorely miss this feature. I was wondering if it could not be achieved by editing the registry. Anyone?
Has anyone found how to do this, I realise its an old question, but it would be handy to know?
Yes, this is not existing. Unbelievable !
I'm using a workaround for this.
1st/ start a send vcard (MMS)
2nd/ the card is stored in folder /temp. Filename seems always to be 'me.vcf'
3rd/ attach it to a normal email using whatever kind of file explorer !!
I'm open to any kind of better solution or workaround !

Is MMS Recovery Possible?

Before flashing ROMs on my device (Tilt, Kaiser, etc.) I had apparently copied everything from the UAContents folders onto my PC. These folders contain a bunch of .dat files which to my understanding relate to the contents of the MMS messages I had deleted. In an attempt to retrieve these lost messages and pictures I copied files from the MMS Log and MMS UA folders back onto my device. But I get no results. Is it even possible to retrieve lost MMS messages with these files? Am I missing a step somewhere? someone please help. Thank you.
I'd hate to bump this, but I really need some help here
I have a use for this too, lost some MMS pictures today when I did a softreset before the MMS was looked at... but I see there is .DAT files for use in My Documents/UAContents\MMS UA can I open this with some app to get out the pictures?
Found out a way to workaround this today... I moved and renamed one of my .dat files to the templates folder, and renamed it exaktly to one of the templates name ex 1_0409.dat, then I made a new mms, chose the template and sent an MMS to myself.. .voila, the picture and topic was there!

iphone SMS to Android solution?

How would I restore and migrate my SMS from iPhone to Android? I already got the SMS into CSV format in Missing Sync but I can't seem to find a way to get that CSV onto the Nexus One. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Here's what I got down so far. I can convert the sms.db in iPhone to CSV, but the CSV format isn't the standard Nokia, so when I use the Android csv2sms, it doesn't read it. Is there any more direct way?
I am building an CSV importer for Android. But I don't know how Missing Sync format is.
Could you please send me a sample file? (not your real content of cause, you can send me via my private box [email protected])
Thanks and Regards,
Bao
Update: please visit http a.baole.org /sms-migrator to see how migrate your sms from your old mobile to android phone. You can also download app from Android Market named "SMS Migrator"
That'd be awesome. Unfortunately, my SMS is a bit private and its quite large (20mb) so I cannot email it to you.
Code:
"Type","Date","Time","Number","First Name","Last Name","Company","Message","Device"
"Sent","3/19/08","4:59 PM","xxx-xxx-xxxx","Joe","Smith","","blah blah blah message here","So and So’s iPhone"
"Received","3/19/08","6:42 PM","xxx-xxx-xxxx","Jane","Doe","","whatever the message goes","So and So’s iPhone"
The xxx-xxx-xxxx is the phone number. Date and time is pretty obvious. Type is just send and received. Name is separated into first and last. I don't put any contacts by company, but I guess it exports it by that too. The message is the main part of the SMS. The device is the phone name defined in iTunes. I'm sure you're familiar with that if you have an iPod.
When you're done, I can test it for you if you'd like. I shot you an email too in case you don't visit here often.
I may extend my Nokia csv2sms if you wish, too.
Please send me a sample file of your exported sms if you have a special format. Thanks
I'm pleased to inform you of a new release of Csv2Sms !
This new version enables users to import their SMS messages from any format for FREE (0.00 $). (CSV, XML or even SQL !)
Check this out at shar.es/mb0OA
Goo'Luck !
Thats not even the original iPhone format but something else...
The original what you get out of "message" table from sms.db looks like this:
Code:
"ROWID","address","date","text","flags","replace","svc_center","group_id","association_id","height","UIFlags","version","subject","country","headers","recipients","read"
"1","NUMBER_IN_INTERNATIONAL_FORMAT","UNIX_TIME","TEXT_OF_THE_MESSAGE","2","0","","1","0","0","4","0","","COUNTRY_CODE","","","1"
The sent/received tag is contained in "flags" number 2 = received, 3 = sent
I've been struggling to get this working with your athg2sms script, but it doesn't still work...
I just wrote something that may help you, you need to install "SMS Backup & Restore" from the Android Market, though - then you can import the generated XML file.

when I try the DB the website fails.
Can anyone help me out here
I have extracted the SMS.DB file from my iphone and have SMSMigrator installed on my andriod; just need to convert from the db file to an xml

Hi gwoo_ca, please read the instructions on the page - there's a link to "SMS Backup & Restore", which can read the XML.
Yes, sorry that is the andriod program which I am using (not sms migrator)
I think the problem is the XML conversion website, doesn't seem to work when I choose db on the drop down menu.
Maybe I am just dumb but I just can't get it to work
Okay, give it a try now - i've reinstalled my server a couple of days ago, maybe there was something missing. Works for me now!
Awesome, that did the trick
Don't know what you did but it works great now so can't complain
Much appreciated
Hey guys , what if I wanna do vice versa ? Convert text from android to iphone ? any idea ?

[Q] HTC Wildfire Lost SMS

Hi all, I'm using an unrooted HTC Wildfire and yesterday all of my texts just disappeared - about 8000 in total. I think it was after I recieved a text from someone. I reasoned that the messages have to still be on the phone somewhere due to the fact that data is just marked as overwritable, or am I wrong about that? Either way, I hunted through the SD card with some file recovery software (PC Inspector File Recovery, to be precise) and found a few files that may be useful - "com.gb.gosms-1.asec" in "android_secure" that's 4.09MB (about the right size for the data my messaging app was reading in the "Settings>Applications", and "40123", found in "LOST.DIR" that is 14.0MB, probably too large but the closest I could find as the other two in that directory were only a few hundred kilobytes.
I can't open any of them - I tried "40123" as .db and .xml files and the .ASEC file seems to be an encrypted Android file.
I'm looking for a few things, I guess - Where should I look to use the file recovery software to find the old SMS files? How do I open a .ASEC file, and might it be the right one? And does anyone know of any way to recover my texts? I just would quite like to recover my texts as there are some important ones on there!
Many thanks in advance, and sorry if I am repeating anything, I ran a search but couldn't find anything.
P.S., I am using GoSMS, but my stock messaging app is just as empty!
Why do you have 8,000 texts on your phone? Typically any SMS app you download will automagicly delete any texts once you collect a certain amount.
I like to keep all my messages so I can know what has been said and because there are some important texts in there, and I just double checked and couldn't find any settings like that in there, but I know it's disabled on my stock app and I had conversations ranging from about 5000 to 2 or 3 texts, but thanks for the suggestion!
I did, however, find a thing saying that I had sent 1900 messages in total, or thereabouts, which is a lot more than I sent since the messages went missing, a lot less than I have sent since I got the phone. Perhaps it is from when I started using Go SMS, but is it indicative of the messages still being on the phone somewhere?
Yes it is since you got Go sms because the stock messanging app doesn't count how many was sent. And no that doesn't mean that they are on your phone. It is simply a built in counter allowing you to keep track of your messages in case you don't have an unlimited messaging plan. Try downloading a file explorer and searching for your texts, that should all be backlogged onto your phone somewhere. Chances are though that the messages where deleted. Linux will overwrite information in order to better utilize your memory space. I recommend to back up any messages, or lock the ones you want kept to avoid this in the future.
Thanks very much, I'll do that
As per my original message, does anyone know how to open a .ASEC file?
