I just got a new car (Nissan Altima) with bluetooth. I have a 8125 with Molski's 2.26 Rom and MS VCommand 1.6
I got it to pair on the first shot. What I can't seem to do is to control Voice Command using the car button. Let me explain...
If I dial someone from contacts or using speed dial from the phone it uses the car system.
If I push the phone button on the steering wheel it prompts me to use the car system to dial a number.
If I push the button on the phone assigned to voice command it wants me to speak into the phone give instructions.
What I am trying to do is be able to push the button preferably on the steering wheel, but if no on the phone and be able to use the car system to tell the phone to do, as if the car were a headset.
Any ideas how to make this work? all the searches I found on the topic seemed to reference workarounds to get VC 1.5 to do bluetooth.

Car Kit Compatibility
Not all car kits support routing audio through bluetooth outside of a call. BMW kits are notorious for this. They assume that you would only ever want to use the car system to initiate an interaction and so they don't route the audio to the device. This makes it impossible on some car kits to use Voice Command or any other speech recognition software that is running on a mobile device. Some car kits do support this, i.e. Parrot car kits.
Thanks for the leads. It is not a "kit" per se, but part of the tech package that came with the car. Any ideas on how I can determine what "kit" Nissan is using and whether there is a way to enable it to route the audio to the phone?

Just letting people know that the Parrot CK3000 car kit works great with my XDA2. It only uses "headset" mode, so functionality is limited, but it routes the calls through the car speakers and mutes the stereo, so that's all you can really ask.
On my Alfa, I couldn't use the standard ISO connectors, as the car has a separate amplifier in the boot, but chopping the ISO connectors off and connecting the wires separately to the "telephone in" connectors on the back of the radio worked just fine. I can even adjust the volume of the phone call via the steering wheel audio controls!
There's a reassuring "beep" when I turn on the ignition to let youknow tha the devices have bonded and every few days, something goes skewey on the PDA and I have to do a soft-reset to make the bluetooth bond work again, but otherwise, it works fine.
I've put an icon on my PDA for the warm-reset, so that I can do it easily in the car if I realise that it hasn't bonded automatically.
The only real glitch I've found is that if you get to your destination whilst still on the phone, I can't find any way to transfer the call back to the handset without terminating the call - any help on that would be gratefully appreciated.

In asnwer to your question, to hand over the BT headset call to the phone just tap the 'Headphone' Icon on the status bar of the XDA.

Funnily enough, I was just outside in the car experimenting when you replied.
Sure enough, if you tap the headphone icon on the PDA, the call is successfully transferred back to the PDA and you can carry on the call directly on the PDA.
If you then press the green button on the car kit, the call will also transfer back to the car kit again.
But - Here's my last issue - If you get into the car with a call already in progress on the PDA and then turn on the car ignition, the car kit beeps to confirm that it has bonded, but I can't find any way to actually transfer the open call to the car kit....

Ah well you see we obviously share a passion for gadgets but not Alfa's, current car is an X-Type shortly to be replaced by a Discovery and yes I spend time at both of their owners ites as well (Note to self, need to get out more!).
I think I'm correct in saying that you can't hand over an active call to a BT Handsfree be it headset or car-kit, I suspect this is a limitation of the XDA's BT Stack (thanks Microsoft NOT!)

Hit the green button on the carkit, that should do it.
If not, install the XDA2 Bluetooth tool, and retry...
Nope - Green button is documented as being the way to do this for most phones, but it doesn't work with my XDA2....
I did try to install Bluetooth tools ut then couldn't get the devide to pair with the Parrott at all, so I hastily removed them.....
I'll think that I'll live with as it is, now that everything else is stable and works OK....

I'm running My Mobiler to output the display, and control my phone (Tilt/Kaiser/TytnII/8925) via my PC (XP sp2).
When I receive a call, My Mobiler allows me to accept/reject/sms etc through my pc (really through my phone dialer but I'm using my keyboard and mouse), but when I want to accept the call, and talk to my caller, I'm having to pickup the phone, and resort to what I'll call 'untethered' phone use (i.e., phone to ear/BT headset).
What I'd like to do (and hopefully where you guys can help me out) is to use some method or software to relay the call through my PC (and use my pc's built in speakers & mic). Bonus if the method leverages something I'm already running (ActiveSync/My Mobiler).
Additional info:
BT is an option, but it's Toshiba stack, which from my researching doesn't' seem to support the Headset profile on PC.

well if your pc has bluetooth it should be able to work....i have a usb to bluetooth adapter for my pc and i can get the audio going to it never tired to use a mic or use my pc as a speaker phone but 1 thing for sure the audio from calls go on my pc....if i had a mic i would test it out...also as another option(if your phone has it.) u could just use speaker phone...

What's the make/model of the USB BT you're using?
Mine is:
Toshiba Bluetooth Stack for Windows
Version v5.10.15
When I pair up the profiles displayed on the tilt are:
A2DP: Advanced Audio Distribution Profile
SPP: Serial Port Profile
The profiles in the Toshiba BT manager are:
DUN: Dial-Up Networking Profile
LAP: LAN Access Profile
If I use my BT headphones (Sonorix C3) with MortPlayer, A2DP works, If I try to use the Toshiba USB BT it doesn't work.
I think the one I need is (either)
HSP: Headset Profile
or
HFP: Handsfree Profile
I'm suspecting the toshiba bt stack is to blame, anyone else able to use a toshiba stack and get HSP/HFP working on their PC?
Im currently using My Mobiler to use my VOX due to having removed the broken screen from its shell
whenever i take a call, all i do is put it on speakerphone and it works fine
using the computers speakers and mic would be great fun, but for me its impossible due to the bluetooth dongle i use not having any compatible (free) software that uses audio streaming, but if it did, audio streaming should work with both speakers AND a mic! so it should in theory work.

Speakerphone isn't an option, I'm in an office and the sharing of my conversation with my coworkers via loud speaker wouldn't be appreciated.
I intend to use a headset+mic combo hooked up to my pc, this way I can listen to music off my pc, and handle calls.
flow would be:
[Phone]<--display&control(via My Mobiler)-->[KVM - PC]

Salling Clicker Is on the road to what I'd like to do, although it doesn't have voice support under windows. It's on the road to PPC <> PC convergence.
Any one have any experience with tweaking Salling Clicker to work with voice?

When I paired my MDA Vario III with my notebook (HP TC4200 Tablet PC running a Broadcomm BT stack) I had a "Voice gateway" service available from my phone. This is in addition to DUN and Network Access Point services. Basically when I PC and phone connect my PC acts as a BT speakerphone.
I've not used the setup that often but it seems to work pretty well. When 1st connected a pop up briefly appears to inform me that the "Call Monitor" is active and that's it til a call comes in. At that point a notification gets displayed saying the number or callerID with buttons for "Accept & "Reject". If I take the call, or transfer and active call to the BT headset then my PC picks up the call.
By default my notebook uses its built in loudspeaker and microphone. However I can also pair my PC with a BT headset then route all sounds through it. It's a bit of a faff though as I have to change the active sound device to whatever headset is connected. I also need to connect the PC and eadset 1st if the headset is also paired with the phone, otherwise the real BT headset may take the call instead of the "virtual" one (notebook). I haven't tried this with my BT stereo headset though, only my conventional mono...
Whilst playing during a particularly boring teleconference I also discovered that I can record the calls and pass the sound through a text to speech converter supplied with the PC... the results of the latter are more for entertainment than serious use, althoug I suppose with some training it might be better...
I also use Salling Clicker. The phone events work pretty well, but to date I've yet to take a call using the PC whilst it is running.
Not sure if this helps in your case, but it seems like what you want to do is definitely possible.
Fatman it's like you've taken a page right out of my book. What software are you using for speech to text? This could make for a useful and entertaining audit trail... Sounds like I need to pickup a new BT adapter based on the Broadcomm stack. If anybody has had any luck using the Toshiba stack, please share.

I'm not sure if the program is available as separate software. It's called "Microsoft English Recognizer" and was pre-installed on my notebook. I have no idea how it compares to any other programs. I've only playted around with it very briefly as a way of killing time during a boring teleconference!
However, I can't see why any program couldn't be used as the sound from the phone is available to any software as the BT stream from the phone becomes the default input sound feed.
One thing I will definitely be trying next time is recording the call whilst taking notes using Tablet Enhancements for Outlook. THis basically augments the normal MS Outlook Journal functions so I can take handwritten notes which can be edited, commented, and then later searched. If you record the microphone feed (i.e. the phone call in my case) the notes are then linked into "timeline" of the call so you can see what notes were taken when, and conversely what happened in the call when you took a particular note... should be useful if it works...
Let me know if you need any additional info about BT stack versions and drivers etc but it does sound like you'd need the Broadcomm stack - ISTR reading that the Brioadcomm stacks on some PocketPCs have laways performed better than the MS equivalents, and it appears that the same if true for PCs too... The BT on my notebook is far more reliable, and flexible than that on my work PC which uses an MS BT dongle. However, that may be due to the fact that the BT on my notebook is built in and not USB...

my next mobile phone is going to be a Topaz, but my question might apply to other devices as well.
Basically I want to feed a car radio via a2dp with music (coming from a microSD card inside the device) & navigation instructions (I prefer TomTom and Mobile Navigator, I have yet to decide which one to get in full version) and use the radio's hands free feature for phone calls.
The radio I might be getting is a Sony MEX-BT3600U (link).
My question is: how exactly do I get this scenario to work? I'm unsure whether the device has to "mute" the music and navigation instructions when calls come in or the radio uses different kinds of "channels" for a2dp and calls. Do the programs (music player and navigation) require certain functions to accomplish this?

I have a similar, but older MEX BT deck from Sony, the MEX-BT5000. I will try to explain how it has worked with all of my WinMo devices (Hermes, Kaiser, Xperia).
It will auto pair with your device with both a standard cell phone and an A2DP connection. When using non-phone audio it will come out of your car speakers when you are in Bluetooth Audio input mode. Anytime there is a call or the phone functions are activated it will override the A2DP and you can accept the call and talk or send to voicemail. While the phone is in use normal audio will NOT come through the speakers. I think this is best because you wouldn't want TomTom yelling at everyone who calls you, or in my case have them hear my blaring music. Also the phone will override CD or Radio audio also, but A2DP will only come through when it is selected on the deck.

I am looking for a car stereo with the following features for use with my Samsung Galaxy S i9000 phone. Most of these via bluetooth of course.
- navigate through and select tunes, podcasts, and audiobooks
- stream audio
- Display caller id and allow me to answer the call or ignore it
- bluetooth hands free calling
- associate with my phone when I start the car so I don't have to pull it out of my pocket
- pause the audio when there is an incoming call or I place a call via the stereo
- be able to place calls using the address book in the phone
Can all of this be found in one unit? Am I hoping for too much?

using my deck, you can control the phone audio/video stream, and vice versa, as in you can also use your touch screen to control the audio/video as you would normally do, and the car plays the sound.
the remote control works as well, i barely use my remote control as i seat a arms/finger length distance of the deck controls
it uses the standard A2DP Bluetooth controls, it's very natural.
another ability of the deck i'm using in my car, it lets you choose USB, so you can actually hookup the usb/charger wire from the SGS i9000 to the car USB, and it will both play and charge your phone!
this will save your phone battery (bluetooth sucks up a lot of power) so you will only use the bluetooth to talk for incoming/outgoing calls
you just touch a button on the deck to start talking, you can also dial from the deck, but is faster to use the phone to dial.
when you have the phone connected via USB to the deck, you wont be able to use the bluetooh A2DP to control the playback, but you still have the deck controls and the remote control that comes with the deck.
go to the website and read the PDF manual for more details, all i can say is i'm extremely happy and sastified with this setup
you can also just use a regular USB stick to play audios from the deck.
I don't even carry CDs in my car anymore, I loaded my entire music library in a 32GB USB stick, or use my phone to play audio, my phone usually will have the latest song i download from the net, as i always forget to update my USB stick with the latest songs

Shoot. I was || this close to getting the Clarion CZ509 but I only found it at 2001 Audio/Video and I don't like those guys much. Instead, I just had the Sony MEX-BT3800U unit installed. I've only started playing with it but I understand it has the same capabilities of the Clarion and a great interface on the deck face.
FH-P8000BT; Voice Dial
Has someone tried the Pioneer FH-P8000BT? I uderstand it's a nice option but don't know if it works ok with Galaxy S's.
Also, is any of the head units mentioned above able to dial by voice? Is it functional?

Anyway, I'm hoping you can help me out. Here's essentially what I said in the PM:
I noticed that you have gotten most everything to work with your clarion cz509 HU. I too have the same HU in my car but I can not get the functionalities to work properly. I used to have an LG voyager and while it did not do ANYTHING except bluetooth, it did do that well. It did not do phonebook or streaming audio but the BT would pair automatically every time I got into the car.
I now own a Samsung Fascinate (Verizon) and I can't even get the BT functionality to work properly. I can get it to pair (and once paired it works fine) but it does not seem to auto pair when I return to the car. I also can not seem to get any of the other functions to work. I realize it's a bit different than your handset but my questions to you are:
1. Is there something setting-wise that I need to change on the actual HU itself?
2. Is there anything to do with settings on the phone that I need to look into?
3. I can't even get it to do audio through USB. Is there something I need to do (on the phone end) to get this to work properly?
I would be satisified with JUST the bluetooth working and auto pairing when I get into the car. I don't need the phonebook or the streaming audio or even the music via USB (I can just use my iPod) but I would like the BT to work at least. The engrish manual that came with the CZ509 is less than helpful.

For years I've been handling all the music in my car via a first-gen iPod mini under the passenger seat connected to a Harman/Kardon Drive+Play. It's got its flaws, but it works great. I turn on the car and it picks right up where it left off. The control is mounted right where my hand expects it to be and the screen is easily visible. No fuss, no muss.
I'm wondering if I can accomplish something similar with my Nexus One. What I DON'T want to do is have some complex setup where every time I get in the car I have to connect three cables and put the phone in some gawdy clamp mount, then be awkwardly trying to use the touch screen while driving, then having to stop playback and disconnect everything when I get out of the car.
I'm looking for a solution that is either one cable or automatic bluetooth. Preferably there would be an external monitor screen. I'd like a manual control that I could mount by the arm rest or steering wheel and use without looking at it. At minimum, I could do music and calls. Navigation would be a plus.
Does anything like this currently exist?
Sounds like your after any number of car headunits that support AD2P (audio over bluetooth), bluetooth voice, and navigation. Alpine, Eclipse and Kenwood all make good units that should do what you want. You should be able to leave your phone in your pocket and just have it connect via bluetooth when your in range.
I've had minimal success with the various Pioneer headunits due to them not supporting AD2P without additional controllers = more money.
I hadn't thought of just replacing the head unit but I suppose I'm due. I browsed Crutchfield but there's no filter for A2DP capability. Anyone have any suggestions for a DIN head unit with integrated A2DP and a color LCD screen?
I'm currently using a jvc kd-r900. It comes with a little Bluetooth adapter that you can plug into the rear USB port. I have it setup to auto start car home when it connects to the bluetooth. Usually by the time I get in, start the car and put my seat belt on, my phone is connected and ready to play music/calls/GPS/etc. I can start music either from my phone or just pressing the play/pause button on the head unit. Works really great. I can switch songs pause/play and make calls directly frm the head unit without having to touch my phone. My wife had her phone in her purse in the back seat and was still able to play music without touching the phone
Overall pretty pleased with the unit and it works great with my n1.

Can you browse/navigate Artist, Album, Track, etc. from the head unit? If so, this is probably exactly what I'm after.
I can't browse using the headunit. It only allows my to play/pause and skip tracks.

This might be dumb. But do all android phones have this a2dp feature? Isn't it just the same as a Bluetooth headset sort of, so they ALL must have it? If so I'm definitely getting a new stereo! I just want to make sure that after my nexus I can still use this feature!
A2DP is a software thing. So as long as the phone has a Bluetooth 2.0 chip (the G1 does) and the operating system supports A2DP (At minimum, Froyo does) then you're good to go.
I use a THB BURY CC9060 Music. Full Bluetooth kit with full music control from a remote dash mounted screen and call handling.
