HELP~ Low Storage Memory - General Topics

Hello, everyone... How ya doing?
I have an O2 XDA IIs with WM5... I already solved the reset problems, but there is something I want to know... Is there a way to change the TEMP file to the Storage Card? I dont want the Temporary Internet Files on my Storage Card, only the TEMP folder...
There are some games that I cant play on my PPC, because the Storage memory is limited to 60mb and ya always install some software there because ya cant installed in the SD Card so its decreased the storage memory... So when I run the game, I wait a lot and pops out a Low Storage Memory warning, I close the popup and I have to delete all the files that has the temp folders that installed the game...
Hope ya can help me with this~ I only need to change the temp folder to the SD Card... Im sorry if there is a thread bout this but I couldnt find it...
Thanks~ Im looking forward for yar answer...
P.S: Already did it~ Thanks anyways... Even though that I dont have anymore the low memory warnings, I cannot play the games yet... Probably might that is not compatible with wm5...

Definitely. I'ts just a simple registry setting (there's a reg value in the Registry that specifies the temp directory; this can, of course, be relocated to a card). Now I'm over GPRS and can't run extensive searches, but you'll surely find it in my blog, in my WM5 & iPAQ hx4700-related articles.

Install TomTom 6 on Storage card as much as possible

Even if you said to TomTom 6 to be installed on the Storage Card, it will install itself on the MAIN memory !
Has someone managed to move the 2 biggest files:
- Tomtom navigator.exe (~2MB)
- data.chk (~2MB)
to the storage card to save (4MB here!!) the precious main memory ?
I have found nothing except this but it is for TomTom 5:
http://www.4winmobile.com/q-how-can...934.html?sid=494a2df12b48a1e8fdca8ae0e7bfb752
Yes, I moved the whole Tom Tom directory that is installed to the Main Memory, to the Storage Card and run the Navigator exe from there.
Another thing is if you do a Hard Reset you dont after reinstall it again, it will run directly from the Storage Card, you just have to create a shortcut.
The difficulty with copying everything across to the SD card is that TomTom Home then can't find the installation on the pocket PC. Have you found any way around this?
Andrew
Yes, what are the consequences of moving the folder to the storage card ?

Well, the only problem is that it is a little slower to startup and get going, but once thats done Ive never noticed any difference.
The only thing is you cannot use the Today plugin (but I never did anyway), I just created a new shortcut in the Start Menu, that does it for me.
I agree with coercri (although I don't find it is any slower to start from my SD card, probably because I stuck in a relatively fast card ). But that still doesn't get around the problem of not being able to update the POIs using TomTom Home (which is much more convenient than copying the individual files to a number of map sub-directories). Maybe the answer is a Registry hack to point the installation directory to the card. I will try it.
I don't use the Home application so this is why it has never bothered me, I donwload the Camera Updates and just copy them to the GBMAP directory.
Thanks for you advice. I moved my TomTom folder in Program Files from main memory to the SD card. It works great !
The speed is the same as on the main memory and the application load is as fast as on the main memory. Maybe this is due to the fact that I took a fast SD card.
I am not using TomTom Home so I don't have this problem. I suggest you use Resco Explorer Registry editing tool and make a search for '\Program Files\Navigator' you should find so occurrences, change them to '\<name of your storage card>\Program Files\Navigator'
Thanks for that. In the end, I simply went back to copying the OV2 files across.
Incidentally, I have now moved TomTom to the Extended ROM and it is faster than running from the SD Card.

Boosting the Memory???

Hey guys,
My internal memory is low. And I'm having a popup message every 5 seconds of the day telling me my memory is critically low... It's driving me insane! I need a solution here. That's why I turn to you guys!
I would appreciate the heads up about finding more storage space. What I'm looking for all together is a program that will "trick" my htc wizard to think the sd card is actaully the internal storage memory. I want my memory to read something like this (example);
Storage
Total: 2000MB
In use: 50MB
Free: 1950MB
(Again, the total of 2000MB (2GB) is the actual SD card being read as the main memory.)
...instead of reading what usually is shown on the memory screen (below).
I am sure there is a program out there that can do this. I've seen something like that a while ago but chose not to use it since it wasn't any use to me.
Anyways, I'd really like a heads up...

doesn't work like that man... wish it did what rom are you running? whatever it is, reflash or flash something else... you are not out of memory, wm is just being stupid...
hehe it not possible to do it like that.
it's not the same as your computer, but try to convert part of your HDD to ram ( VIRTUAL MEMORY never act like real RAM ) .
the best way is to install everything on an SD card and to flash to the lightest ROM u'll find here .
WRONG!
Hey guys,
I'm telling you it exists. I've even marked it on a text file. I just don't remember what file that is... I think I got it from one of those site like freewareppc.com.
Anyways, like I said I wrote it on a text file in a computer; but which? My comp? My laptop? My girlfirend's laptop? My cousin's computer in Florida???
Heck, for the life of me I don't remember... But I will find it! When I do, I'll be waiting for appologies aside from the thank you's and financial "contributions" to have the prog! (Joking on that last one! )
Really guys, I'll be contributing something big when I DO find it!
Keep you all posted!
Phil
PS - I hope you keep ME posted if any of you find something like that...
PSS- If I remember marking it on a text file, could it have been a registry edit and not a plugin / prog? Hmmm, I wonder.

..maybe you need to think for a while...
you gave us screen, that tells, that you have almost clean, fresh booted machine.
try to see difference between STORAGE mem and STORAGE CARD.
try to measure speed difference, and overall gain ;/.
msg 'bout lack of storage MEM, while you have whole 45 mb storage MEM free is absurd.
check your hklm.init
check your startup(with startup manager(search on xda forum for that one..)),
check storage card space,
check your notifications,
try to figure out, which active(yet hidden/tsr) soft is making that "lack of space" message,
if you cannot handle software you are using...
there's no point in making storage card storage memory, anyway.
yet.
there is a little freeware called cleartemp that works just fine I had the same problem on my hermes after using this prog ended up with 20 MB of free memory I think this problem comes from installing programs that can not be completely uninstalled and just mess up ur phone
Thanks for the heads up...
Hey guys,
Thanks for the heads up on ways to free space and little progs that clear a lot of unused memory. But I am still convinced this program exists. I will find it and then I'll get my thanks!
Hey nothin, that is just an example screen. That's not my actual screen. I have less than a mb available in my storage.
And as mohen pointed out, it can be done on a computer. Shrink that technology and it'll be able to be applied to a ppc!

Yeah, I tried it. It creates another drive (like storage folder) that appears in your file manager called ramdisk. I used the reg file in the program to put the temp internet files and cookies to this drive. It works, my internet files are being stored here. We need some benchmark program to really determine if it speeds anything up.
About Ramdisk...
Hey guys,
So let me get this straight, this will actually use ram from my sd card and make it "virtual" storage memory? Or is it another program that cleans up the temp files???
Not sure if this is what I am looking for but I'm willing to give it a shot...
By the way, can anyone tell me how to install this file??? I'd really like to get it running!
Phil
Hello?
Anybody there...?
I'm still trying to figure out how to install this program. Anyone up to give me some pointers please???
Phil
what's the point to put the internet files cache on the virtual drive ?
u can put it on the SD card as well, i'm confused
Okay here's the deal...
Alright,
Now I've just about exhausted any and all resources I had to try and find this program / registry edit that turns my SD card into internal memory...
Here's my promise to the one that can find me this; 30$. The person that finds me this gets 30$. I will personally send it to you or transfer via email or maybe even paypal. I will also make a donation to this forum.
I can't stress enough how I had this on my phone back in January and after modding my phone so many times, it's gone. I'm pleading with you guys to try and find me this solution.
Phil
PS - You can write it on this thread or PM me with your finding

SD as program memory

Is possible use a part of my micro-SD on wm6 as program memory?
In a word, no.
Have a look at an SD card. There are only 8 contacts on it. It behaves as a serial disk drive as far as your phone/PPC is concerned, even though it attached to the "\Storage Card" mount point. The storage can be used by the phone but it is not directly addressable by the 32 bits of the CPU. It can only be paged in and out similar to the swap file on your PC.
Ok...
thanks for the reply
Is there any programm that allows you to use it as swap?
(Do you mean something as the virtual panging that windows do on the hard disk?)
Sorry, I think it's still no.
There is a lot of chatter on this over at
http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2005/11/17/494177.aspx
But the prognosis does not look good.
the least you can do is install as many applications as you can on your storage card...
tho not all apps can be installed on it.
remember, that if you used any software to make a part of the SD card become program storage space you will be still experiencing the same need to move page files to the ram before it can be used by the device.. so there's actually no point in doing that.

Yes... in fact i usually try to install apps on the flash memory... but lots need to be situated on the main memory... and the hermes don't has much of it...
Thanks a lot for the reply
(ps... sorry I'm not english and i could have written same/lots of mistakes..)
unfortunately ram isn't expandable on pdas..
again, the best you can do is install as many apps as you can on your storage card.

Route 66 Mobile 8 storage problem

Hi all,
i have a problem with my Route 66.
I have the official/legal Route 66 so no warez or stuff.
When i try to download a map inside in the Route 66 program.
In the application i have to possibilty to download the maps. The only problem is that the maps are somehow stored on the device and not on my SD card.
I have a HTC TP and i don't have enough storage on my internal memory to save the map. I want to save the downloaded maps to my Storage Card.
Who can help.
Thanks for the responses
copy the progs from main memory to staorage card

Hi Anryl thanks for your reply
But the prog is already installed on the sd card and not on main memory
Now that is strange... I've honestly never even heard of such a problem before. I really wish I could help you but I have no idea. My suggestion would have been to install to SD card and see if it saves to the SD card but it seems the app is made for the Diamond as it's trying to save to internal memory.
Strange indeed... Does the program have options in the settings anywhere on where to save files?

No there is no option where to install it. Isn't there any config file or something like that where i can change the string for saving?
Does anyone have a clue? Thanks for the replys.
My problem is already solved.
Thank you very much for the help.

HTC HD2 Low Memory Issue

Hi.....I am new to HTC, I have HD2 which is an amazing device, the issue I am facing now is very annoying.
I am getting this message regarding memory space too low and i need to delete unused files....etc.
Can someone guide me how to direct the temporary files of IE to the memory card, i mean automatically the temp files are stored on the memory card and at the same time i want for the email and the pictures/videos to be stored on the memory card instantly.
I have an external memory of 8GB and it is frustrating to see this issue still.
Please help me out.
ROM and RAM could be different things...
Would you like to tell, which ROM version you are using? or What apps you running?
I have the same problem
My ROM version is 2.10.531.7 Artemis 8.0 WWE
I have NO idea what I am doing wrong ?
I am not using IE but Opera, please advice =(

Welcome to forums
It´s the 1st time I hear about low memory on Leo
I would recommend you to do a hard reset, perhaps some app is making problems.
Go to Leo section and to Wiki to learn all how to´s

Welcome aboard too,
I would recommend the same as above, just enter to your proper section here
Good luck,
Same problem here have rom 166 end my memory is gone after using you toube
find 33mb have to delete them manuelt
It seems that Opera 9 saves downloads to a folder on the phones 'device memory', but it doesn't always delete them when you tell opera to do so in the downloads menu tab.
It saves them to: \My Device\Windows\opera9\profile\download
When I deleated most of the files there, it released over 110 MB of space in the device storage .
I wonder where other programs save similar files?
Sam.
Every Youtube Video you view is stored on the phones memory. I was having the same issue on my HTC HD2 until I went into the File Explore, my device and then Windows. Click on the youtube folder and delete all of the videos found in this folder. I had over 500 videos stored here and my phone constantly displayed the low space warning and acted sluggish.....now it's fine...Give it a shot!
Memory diamond htc
Hello so far the only easy way to solve this, I found is a little program called clear temp.
Can´t post links but if you google you will find it . its free as well
See what you guys think.
Thanks Tony for that tip. I own an HD2 myself and have experienced that same issue. I do know that you have to do the same with messages and emails as well.once you delete you still have to go tio the deleted folder and permanently delete the messages from your device.txt messages alters and take up lots of space.
Have an hd 7 now and hope not too have the same problems as with the hd 2.
