I hope I'm only missing something simple.
After a hard reset, or flashing a ROM, I have to delete and recreate my device. (no big deal) But doing so, I also loose my sync connection with my miniSD card, so my protected music and program files are useless on the card.
This is a BIG hassle!
I understand that the apps may be associated with files stored only in main memory, and am perfectly willing to deal with this on a per app basis.
The music, on the other hand, is driving me NUTS! (having to delete all the copy protected files, and re-download from my PC from scratch.... )
Is there any way to keep the association of my card so I don't have to go through this ridiculously redundant process?

OK, I've found a method that at least speeds things up a bit.
Delete the hidden/system file WMPInfo.xml from the storage card's root directory, remove the storage card, reinsert the storage card while device is plugged into your PC.
A wizard type listing of your media will pop up.
Select the playlists you want to Sync on the card, and accept.
It will create a new WMPInfo.xml file, thus allowing you to use your copy protected media files without having to delete and re-download them.
The important thing is that (Unless you are adding additional media by choosing new playlist material) the whole process takes less than a minute to complete, as opposed to a half hour or more.
***It is important to note that this DOES require access to the PC that contains your protected media.
Per customer service for SPRITE backup, their software should avert this happening. I will post back once I've had an opportunity to test. It might not be immediately. (Gotta free up some funds first.... )

i noticed the same with my wizard.
ï kind of "solved" it by taking the card out en replace it when the ext. rom was installed. after doing this i had no problems at all.

Virus? memory card won't read...I have no anti-virus software in my XDA2 (silly me? is it important nowadays to have anti virus programms in pocket pcs?) - suddenly my nearly full 1 GB sd apacer memory card wont read any more -
the only thing on it is this: "ignore_my_docs" (when I try to delete this message - it comes back again).
In the device's memory, it shows the memory card as STILL BEING FULL!
1) Is this a virus? Does anyone Know what this is about?

some walaby roms have been reported to delete the sd card for no reason
normal pc undelete programs can undelete your sd card if placed in a sd card reader
you can use search in this forum for many many many posts about the delete issue
sinse you have a walaby device you can narrow your search down to that forum

Ignore_my_docs - very frustrating

Has anyone noticed an "ignore_my_docs" zero byte file on their storage card or ROM file store? I think this was done in the Pocket PC 2002 OS because people had trouble finding data on their storage card unless they had specifically created a \My Documents\ folder.
So, the Pocket PC 2002 now looks at the storage card when you insert it. If \My Documents\ doesn't exist, it puts a hidden file called "ignore_my_docs" on the card. It also has done this to the HP Safe Store or iPAQ File Store. So, what does it do? Well, Pocket PC 2002 apps see this hidden file and look at the root of the storage card for everything. This can be very annoying if you have a large card with hundreds of files on it in other subfolders. For example, my storage cards always look like this:
\Music\
\My Documents\
\app1\
\app2\
Don't get me started on apps being installed in the root versus under a \Program Files\ folder. That is another rant. Ok, if ignore_my_docs exists, apps like Excel and Word will scan the entire card looking for their files. Prepare to wait if it is a 1GB microdrive that is full. The solution is to create \My Documents\ on the card and delete the hidden ignore_my_docs file. To delete it, either dock your device and use Explorer on the desktop, assuming it is configured to see hidden files, or tap-and-hold in File Explorer on your Pocket PC in the white area below a file listing and select "View All Files." The beauty of this is that Windows Media Player on the Pocket PC 2002 doesn't require music to be in \My Documents\ any longer as it did under the Pocket PC 2000 OS, so all of your music is still readily available.
Edit: The above also applies to Pocket PC 2003 and 2003 SE devices as well as all ROM file stores on any device that allows you to store data there.

I've been installing plenty of programs on my SD card recently and I have xda mobile 6 rom. Everytime I install a program though, it still makes its way to my windows file directory that over a course of installing programs, it accumulates and takes over space. Is there a way to solve this problem permanently by installing those "install" files onto my sd card only?
Or perhaps using total comander to move the files around and it would still work despite not being in my main memory windows directory on the phone. It should really be on the storage card.
If any one could help me out with this problem, because I went from having 45mb on my main storage to only having only 25mb despite me "installing" the files on the storage card which they appear to be on there, but my main memory is still being eaten up,

Sorry if you thought of this already, but have you configured Pocket Outlook to store your email and attachments on the storage card? by default, they are stored on main memory.
also, there is a problem with system files being deployed in the memory card since the initial read is from the main memory. those files can't move to the memory card.. or... maybe they can, but not in a regular.. altering registry or installation a program way.
ineluki-I don't use pocket outlook at all. And everyone that I have moved onto the memory card, I did already.
nir36-is there anyway to move those install files away from the main memory since registry alteration doesn't work?

unfortunatly, you can't move those files without altering the base of the device. if there is another way, it's not a way i know about.. but it's unlikely you can use your system files from your SD card.. sorry
strange name but title but heres the scoop. i have a samsung sch-1760 with a 2gb micro sd card. i have most of it filled up with music. well just today i'm messing around with syncing it to my computer and i try to play some music and stuff but i don't have my playlist. i then check my sd card and when i do it's empty except for a " wmdrm" folder. well i check my phone memorie and the card is saying that it has only has 277mb free. so now i'm getting agitated i put the card directly into my computer and can't find anything but a file named "EncFiltLog.menc"... my question is what happened to my files and why can't i see them

The .menc file is the contents/files that are encrypted. It is a feature that secures the files and makes them only visible on your device, which is why you can't see them on your PC. You must have encrypted them by choosing the feature to secure data on the card. By removing the card, you may have prevented all devices from reading the files. With the card in the slot, see if you can change the encryption settings.

the only problem i can't even see the files on my phone... so what can i do to get to see those files so i can back them up whipe out my card or get the files back unencrypted
I've had a similar problem with a 4Gb card and my Tytn II - there are some files that have disappeared, but are still taking up space. Unfortunately when I try to format the card it says it's write protected, on my PC or my phone. I didn't know you could write protect them, and I don't know how to un protect it
ok so how do i get to the "pin" or w/e to access the encrypted files my phone has not been hard reset so i don't understand why my stuff has gone missing
There's a encryption config under Settings in win mobile... i think that's what he's suggesting to check.
Otherwise there's a media player issue where you might have to delete the MSMETADATA folder and then run media player to rescan your SD card and it should find the files again.
And if that don't work... good luck searching the forums. It could be a registry issue also.
I always install to my storage card but it seems that no matter what i do, my device memory keeps filling up! I ran critically low to 785 KB on a HTC Kaiser. i noticed that the programs put things in /Program Files on my device and on /Storage Card/Program Files

In the memory app located in settings it says under the main tab that there is "Storage" and "Program". My "Storage" keeps getting full while my "program" has 39.31 MB free. What is the difference?
Can I simply place all the /program files folders over to my /storage card/program files folder and fix shortcuts or does the programs require to take space on my device itself?
I have NO pictures or videos saved on my device, only storage card, and save all attachments/etc to my storage card aswell. I have reflashed and ran memmaid and no use...
I have tried copying the program files folder over to my storage card. Have 40MB free now but all sorts of broken shortcuts. I have turned off "Shortcut To" in windows via a registry key but when I create shortcuts on the device the pesky "Shortcut to" is still showing. I have decided to flash to the lastest rom and let SAMACHI handle my cab installs...

Emails:
I sync my Hermes with a huge Outlook personal folder with lots of emails, tasks and notes. By default, email "bodies" are stored as binary files (*.mpb) in the \Windows\Messaging folder (may vary?). This folder can grow in size up to 10 - 15 MB depending on the number of emails. So in my case it wasn't enough to move the attachments to the Storage Card, I also had to move the emails "bodies" to the Storage Card. You can do this by moving the folder to the Storage Card AND changing the registry as explained in the WIKI (Change the location of email and attachments) to point the new folder location. BUT PLEASE MAKE A BACKUP OF EMAILS AND ATTACHMENTS IF YOU ATTEMPT THIS. Windows stores email headers separate from email "bodies" so if you move the "bodies" and the registry points to the wrong location, you might get empty emails and loose all data permanently if you sync. BE CAREFUL...Opera 9.5:
If you use Opera 9.5, you will loose another 10 - 12 MB in the \Application Data\Opera9 folder (may vary depending on opera version). In that case is better to run Opera from the Storage Card and tweak it so that its cache is also in the card.Themes:
Some custom made themes are in the 100 - 500 KB range and if you have many themes in the \Windows folder it can take a couple of megs of storage space. I moved all my themes to the card and keep only the one I use in the \Windows folder.
You could add more system memory by using a rom that has Ramdisk in it. In case you are not familiar, Ramdisk is a feature that basically uses Program memory as storage memory. It is similar to wm2003 and earlier, with the difference that you cannot manually allocate it. It has to be a hex edit in the rom itself. Now, regarding your question... program memory refers to the ram that is allocated for program use (as its name specifies). Basically, the more programs you have running, the lower this number gets. This is the memory resource of your device. Storage memory acts as your "hard drive", where you will place all your stuff (installation programs, pics, etc) provided that you do not send it to your storage card.
A lot of programs will install to device memory whether you instruct them to go in memory or not. Now, it should be perfectly possible to put the programs in the card as long as you rework the shortcuts...
I don't know which GPS program you are using (if any). But if you are, make sure that it is not downloading data into your device directly (things like maps, POIs, etc).
Try the first part of my post though. That might help you some.

I wouldn't recommend doing so though, you want all the ram you can get.... less ram equals less speed. If you have other space (such as your storage card) then use that.
I reccomend one of garmins rom, they usually come loaded with extra space (dk4 comes with like 110mb)
Certain programs have to be installed to the main memory, but if you install to the storage card.... you should only lose a couple kb to shortcuts and such...... something isn't adding up.
PS: The difference between storage and program:
Storage= Hard drive memory
Program= RAM memory
PSS: There is a program called clear temp you may want to try, it gets rid of alot of you temp files for you.
After flashing my device and reinstalling everything to the storage card, I have came to the conclusion that some programs install to the device anyway even if you select Install to Storage Card. I went from 110MB free down to 78mb, all in the program files folder! Time to be moving these and fixing shortcuts!
I have an HTC touch Dual, windows mobile 6.5. I have a 16gb micro sd inside of it and everything was going pretty well. then today after taking some pictures and messing around with windows media player mobile, things went strange on my memory card. first i noticed none of my songs on windows media player would work. then i looked for them using total comander or whatever, and thats when i saw the strange files and folders. they are mostly system folders appearently, and i cannot delete them. All my programs installed on the card still work, and pictures i have on the card are still there (not the ones i took with the camera), in fact, the only thing that seems to be missing is my roms folder with all my emulator roms, and my music folder with all my music. this is a list of what i have on the card now:
6 empty "file folders" named "." (just a period, guessing they call it a "file folder because they are unsure what it is, but it does have the folder icon) they are all 0 bytes
a "file folder" called "┘kφ$╥M╞.¬√½", 0 bytes
another "file folder" called "║h88 Ω*.***" also 0 bytes
another one called "î┤I¬U¡R.┼Xπ" 0 bytes
Then i have my images folder with all my images uploaded for backgrounds (not my camera pictures), program files, DCIM (which is now empty but i used to have all the pictures and videos from my camera), movies folder, pleco folder (chinese dictionary), and "my voices" which are the recordings i've done.
Now the best parts
a ╥¼ File called "╥/ê≤}. ╥¼" which is 2.85GB (Must be the roms)
a JQ File called "╝µï½ƒ0.Jq" which is 3.60GB (must be all my music because this is how much i uploaded to the card)
and a ∩ File called "▓φα¡d≥ c.∩ " which is 2.71GB (and this one might be all my videos and pictures from my camera, but that seems like a lot and i don't remember having that many pictures)
So obviously my data is still here, but its just crammed into these unknown files. It's not like i really care about all the music and that stuff, I would have just deleted these files if it would have let me, but it won't let me at all. I really would hate to reformat my entire card because of all the programs i've installed and i don't want to go through all of that again... unless now that i'm thinking about it, i could just backup my program files then reformat my card. i'll probably try this. anyway, i don't have anywhere else i can put my micro sd card, just my phone, so if anybody has any idea whats happened to this darn thing, please let me know! thank you very much!
Your sd card is corrupt. Try to scan it (either on the device w/ pocket mechanic, sk tools or something similar), or connect in disk drive mode to a pc and scan it that way (right click on the drive-F: or whatever-then select properties-tools-fix errors). If scanning doesn't work (do it several times if it does), then you're screwed. Copy every file you can to your pc (one folder @ a time), then format the card. It will probably be fine after the format.
Next: change the save path on the camera, and pretty much every thing else, to main memory. Having crap written quickly to the card all the time can cause corruption. Scan frequently, at least once a week, if not more. Do not have temp folders located on the card. Really, really do not have a custom SIP on the card. Just try to use the card for storage, but not as main memory.
