Voicemail button on Today screen - Palm Treo 750

HI,
I unlocked my Treo 750v and I'm now using it with Orange in France. The annoying thing I have noticed is that no matter how hard I try to change the voicemail speed dial button on the Today Screen it always reverts back to the voicemail number for SFR in France.
Anyone figured out how we can change that number so we can actually use the speed dial on key 1?
Thanks,
smmonla

This is all due to the service/app called PorkPie... Its the Network (settings)database engine, when a SIM is entered, it looks at the IMSI and provisions the relevant settings for that network to the device (GPRS, Voicemail etc).
Check the regkeys :
HKLM/Software/Palm/Varnish & HKLM/Software/Palm/Porkpie
I can only guess that when you enter a french SIM it then automaticly uses SFR (they are Vodafone right?)

HI,
thanks for you reply.
SFR is the vodafone partner in france.
How can I acces the regestry.
thanks
saadi

HTC S710 Problems - help!!

Have 4 problems with my unlocked htc S710 phone:
1) Problem is I can not get the phone to work on one of my gsm providers - my home provider actually. They currently operate on the 1800/900 band. I will see the network (when set manually) get full signal and detect gprs but for some reason I can not make or receive any calls.
Has anyone had this problem ?? .... and what can I do to fix it??
2) Using the other gsm providers SIM the phone actually works (makes and receives call, surfs the net) - provider operates on the 1900/850 band. Problem is it shows a roaming symbol on the phone.
Why is that there? and how can I remove it?
3) When using WiFi i find i can not surf or retrieve mail as my office uses a proxy setting. I have attempted to setup for the proxy but still not working and the manual does not show you.
current settings
call from : work
call to : the internet
proxy name/port: <name>:8080
type: http
username/password saved
Can somone tell me what I am possibly doing wrong?
4) Why cant i select the GSM band I want to use like in Mobile 5 .... i can t even find the option ?

Problem with this update is I am in JAMAICA, i do not see my providers. We have (2) GSM providers Cable & Wireless Jamaica and Digicel Jamaica.
What you suggest ??
does your provider have to register IMEI's of phones?
it may restrict what phones you can use with them

Digicel not supporting WM6 devices
The problem is that currently Digicel is not supporting the radio firmware embedded in WM6. I found this out after upgrading my HTC P4350 to WM6 to find that I had no connectivity. I ended up being forced to downgrade to WM5. As the S710 is not available with WM5, your only option is to switch to C&W.

Thanks for the response. I was forced to switch to C&W cause the support people and Digicel had NO CLUE ... sad really ... i guess we now know who is the better network! But tell me something i noticed when using C&W the roaming symbol appears on the phone. This does not stop any features from working but i just wanted to know if you had that problem and if so how did you get rid of it.
same here. i too am facing same problem.. when i have vodafone sim i can make incoming n outgoing call but when i change to airtel i get the probs.
guyz help me out with this probs.

I can't call on my Miphone M88+ WM6

Hi boys and girls!
I have a quite hugh problem. I've just bought a chinese phone, a Miphone m88+ with Windows Mobile 6.
The phone works great, exept for one BIG thing.. I can't call =)
Let me describe the problem. I put in the SIM card in the phone, enter the pin code and the phone (most of the times) get a good signal strength and my provider shows up in the Today page. So far so good....
Now I'm trying to dial a number. It's dialing and dialing and after a short while three beeps turns up and the call ended with no success. I still have a good signal strength and it's looks like the phone has registred on the GSM system but I'm unavailable to call. Now I did a big NO NO and tried to call 112 (the european 911) and that works great! Okey, nothing wrong with the phone then.
Then I tried to reflash the phone with the ROM from this forum. The flashing went good. Back with the SIM card, perfekt signal but still no way to call. Off with the phone, on with the phone and off again and then it started to cooperate with me! The phone worked, the SMS worked! Happy! For an hour it worked perfectly and then i rebooted the device and then the phone went back to square one... BEEP BEEP BEEP...
I was thinking it might have been IMEI blocked for some reason and I have spend the last 24h to look for a IMEI changing software on the net and found a lot of them but noone works with my phone. And then again, after like 200 reboots during the IMEI tries, I could make a call, but just one and then back to null again.
My conclusion:
It's nothing wrong with the phones hardware due to I can make emergency calls.
The IMEI isn't blocked due to I can (sometimes 1 out of 100) make a call and send SMS AND I allways got my provider and a good signal strength.
I think it could/would/might be a configuration issue that Windows Mobile doesnt register to my provider.
What in the h*lls name could it be?! Any tips or hint from you guys?! Can it be the software dialer in the phone that don't like my provider?
Maybe any settings to change somewhere in the phone.. Timeouts.. ?
Is there a IMEI changing software for my phone so I can try to change it? (And NO it's not a ciminal act to do that in Sweden =) )
Please please help me!
Phone: Miphone m88+
OS: Windows Mobile 6 (Build 18165.0.5.0)
Processor: ARM926T OMAP850
Service provider: Tele2/Comviq, Sweden
SIM locked? And mount random ROM without brick the device... you are a lucky boy ^^ try with Sim of another Carrier.
D'rath
Okey...
Here's the deal...
Now I have been tried out another carrier (Telia) on the phone and the phone works perfectly. =)
Now to the problem. The Miphone don't have 3G (none of the chinese phone does)
The Tele2 SIM card is a newer card with access to both 2G and 3G network here in Sweden and the Telia card is a older card with only access to 2G.
I can use my new Tele2 card in older (2G) "normal" phones and then the card/phone just connect to 2G. But in this phone it looks like it won't work at all. Is there any settings i can change exept putting the phone on manual network selection?
I really need to use my Tele2 carrier and you can't order a old SIM card with only 2G access from the carrier =)
What to do? =)

Wrong country code Verizon

This problem probably has an easy solution but I just cant figure it out.
So im Swedish and I ordered a tp2 Verizon and unlocked it with unlock program.
Got everything to work, gsm and umts.
But when I dial numbers ex: 070 65 11 65 (swedish cellphone number)
I see on the screen it adds (1) 070 65 11 65 wich I guess is the
american or english country code.
Now if I type in +46 (Swedish country code)
in front of the cell number and and subtract the 0
+46 70 65 11 65
Everything works.
But for convenience I don't want to have type in my country code for every
cell number.
How do I fix this?
Ive been in region settings on the phone and changed to Swedish.
Someone please help
settings. personal. phone. then i think gsm services
Thanks but it didn't work.
It seems logical the settings to change that would be there though.
I played around with settings on location setting in there. Didn't change anything.
The settings i have on gsm settins are the following:
Call barring
Caller ID
Voice mail and text messages
Pin/pin2
Location setting
tty mode
Time synchronizaion
Am I missing any settings?
I also tried rebooting in cdma mode without gsm sim card and changing
country to Sweden in the cdma settings. Then rebooting again with sim card in gsm
mode.
I didnt try this before but i can call local land line number no problems
but if i try a swedish cellphone number without country code it still
wants to add (1) in front of it.
So annoying.
Any ideas?
hklm-->software-->OEM-->phonesetting and then choose autoprepend_1 and change the "Data" value from 1 to 0.
Ok so im guessing that hklm means changing some registry setting.
I haven't done that before.
Can you recomend a good app for this?
Besides this do you think that this problem might be tied to
using a verizon stock rom and that verizon is an american operator?
If i change to an international rom later do you think I would have this problem?
I know of no international cdma roms. use phm regedit or even easier use CEregreditor from computer with phone connected by activesync.
I used resco explorer 2010,
I didnt have autopretend setting on Phonesetting.
I had something called assisted dialing, wich is something that comes up
whenever i dial a number it says above the number dialing (assisted dialing)
That setting seems to be on (1)
And I have audioredial no value set,
The rest is
Bandtype
Callbarring
CalledId
CallforwardingGsm
CallWaiting
CurrentCountrySetting (no value set)
DNDMode
EmergencyCallAlert
FDN
LocationSetting
NBCDSetting
NetworkService
NetworkType
OutOfCoverageAlert
PIN
RoamingAlert
SwicthNAM
TimeSync
TtyMode
VMailTextMSG
VoiceMail
VoicePrivacy
After a closer I look I found
ShowAutoPrependPage under phonesetting
I changed that value from 0 to 1 but nothing happend.
damn..
Rhodium 500,
thanks for your help and pointing me in the right direction.
Really appreciate it.
I disabled "Assisted Calling" in registry settings and that solved my problems
it was to easy
1-click the call button to see the dial keypad
2- click menu
3- choose global smart dialing
4- disable global smart dialing
5- press ok
abvmoose and others,
How do I turn on Assisted Dialing? I have no entries under HKLM-->SOFTWARE-->OEM-->PhoneSetting--> AssistedDialing?
Please let me know the entries in this folder so I can turn assisted dialing on.
Thanks!

GSM Data & Phone Settings - Overseas

I am visiting Australia for 3 months this summer and was hoping to use my TP2 with a Virgin Mobile Australia SIM card for voice and data. From searching the forum it looks as if I am going to need some setting for data access, and possible to disable CMGuardian.
When I have used my UK Orange or Italian TIM SIM in my Motorola Razr under Tools I see some SIM specific menu items for checking credit, recharging etc. Will I see the same things in the TP2 once it make a connection?
I would appreciate any suggestions for anybody who has used a GSM SIM for data access.
Thanks
No you need to contact the provider and find out the settings for data
GSM Overseas settings
Now in Australia, I have had to adjust several settings and I want to pass on what I learned. After inserting the Virgin Mobile SIM, don't forget to switch to GSM only. There are some CDMA services in Australia and you don't want to roam onto them or you will be paying the Sprint Roaming rates. The Virgin SIM did not show up as an icon under settings and tools the way that other SIM cards have.
I found my phone worked as a phone, GPS worked and it would go on the internet thru Opera. However, at first it would not access my email and required me to dial local calls in Australia as if they were long distance.
I found I needed to change the Global Smart Dialing settings which can be found under Phone, Menu, Global Smart Dialing (need to scroll down to see this option on the Menu). Change the "dialing from" to the correct number required before country code. So for Australia, where you dial 00 before the country code when dialing out internationally, selecting Australia will change the 011 (used when dialing from the USA) to 00.
Next I needed to change the dialing rules. Go to Start, Settings, Menu, All Settings, Connections, Connections, Advanced Tab, Dialing Rules. I ticked the box for "use dialing rules", and edited the rules for Mobile, Work and Home to use the Australia country code of 61 and blanked the area code. I think I could have got the same result by editing the dialing pattern for local calls to remove the E and the F so that local calls did not have the country code or area code prefixed to them.
To fix the Email issue, I had to go to my email accounts by going to the Inbox, Menu, Tools, Options and tapping on each email setup in turn. Once in an email setup, select "Edit Account Settings" and tap Next 4 times to get to Advanced Server Settings. Here there is a drop down list of Network connections. I had to change mine from "The Internet" to VirginGPRS.
NOTE: Have not had a chance to try this, but probably the easier way to fix the email issue is to go to Start, Settings, Connections, Connections, Advanced tab and under Programs that automatically......should connect using "VirginGPRS" or whatever service you are using.
At this point I have phone calls, local SMS, internet and email working. I still have a problem with international SMS.
I am sure somebody understands this better than me and perhaps their is a more elegant way of doing this, but at least it worked.

[Q] UK Nexus S - Using in Spain with Spanish SIM

Hi guys,
I have 2 x Nexus S SIM free mobiles which I bought from Car Phone Warehouse in the UK, which we are using now in Spain.
Both handsets have SIM's for the Simyo network (Which is basically Orange's network).
Even though both handsets are unlocked to all networks, I constantly have the roaming icon showing, and I have to enable roaming and data roaming to have coverage.
Now I know beyond any doubt the handsets are NOT roaming.
Has anyone encountered this bug in the Nexus S please, it is really annoying.
Regards
not a bug, simyo has its own network code, which is different from orange's. Therefore, when you use orange's network, it's roaming. Simyo and orange have a roaming agreement, just like yoigo and movistar.
For now, you'll have to enable data roaming for data to work. (there was a discussion somewhere about not labeling it roaming when the country code is the same, which is the case for most of MVNOs)

Thanks for that info. My misses is saying she tried a mates Orange SIM and that it did not show roaming.
However, we also both had Nexus One's, which we purchased here in Spain. Did not get the roaming icon when using the Simyo cards on those...
It is bloody annoying, as we also loose connectivity sometimes and keep having to re-enter the passwords to our google accounts :-\

Ah, you can fix that!
simyo uses dual sim cards (sims with 2 numbers), to make their roaming agreements easier to manage internationally. When you go abroad, it switches from the spanish number to a netherlands one, i believe (though you don't notice it), just like if you changed the sim card.
The thing is, the switch is made when the sim card detects no service for a while. Problem is, that can happen when you lose signal for a while (underground parking, metro, etc...) And what happens when you change your sim card on an android device? yes, you lose google login.
Solution is to lock the sim card to use the spanish number always. You need a phone with STK app (sim menus), and you need to go to Servicio Simyo -> servicio roaming -> seleccion de red -> Seleccion manual -> Nacional. All nokias can access this menu, for example, but stock nexus doesn't have a stk app.
After changing that, hopefully you won't see the login error again. And about the nexus one: it must use a slightly different method to determine roaming, something I don't really know too well.
Woo, OK thank you for the info. Never knew about the dual number thing. Interesting...
This STK stuff, you know of any app for Android mate?
Regards
Hi, just to confirm, I did manage to fix the SIM issue, I borrowed a mates Nokia 1200 and as you said, I entered the STK menu and switch it to Nacional.
MANY THANKS!!
