Screen - Non responsive - Problem - General Topics

Ive had my XDA Mini-S for a while, but suddenly the screen stopped responding a few weeks back. It will take 2 weeks to be repaired and im waiting on the crap shop to have loan phones in so I can send it away and have a phone to use.
Firstly I think I backed up the phone using some software - But if any of you have any free backup software you can suggest please let me know as Id like to be double safe!
Secondly has this happened to anyone and is it potentially a software problem (fully erase and re set up phone to fix?) or would you only find such a thing from a screen problem which needs warantee.
Cant wait to get it fixed so I can use some great things Ive found on this site such as the new Roms!!

Something similar happened to one of my devices. I suggest that you do a backup using Spb Backup. I think that the trial period even lets you do 4 backups and use them to restore at any time. I bought it a few months ago and it is excellent. After that, try a hard reset to see if it is a software problem, though I do doubt that it is. If it is hardware related you will probably have to send it in.

Did that software back up your contacts as well as full files? If so I will try that! Thanks!

[Q] Locked display spontaneously turning on - UNSOLVED

Hi,
I've been using using the Endymion 3.1 ++ ROM for about two months and everything has been OK until I found out that it's recently started doing a weird thing - when I lock the screen by the hardware button, the screen randomly turns on as if I unlocked the phone. I don't recall making any changes that could possibly influence this.
Any advice?

Does it happen on any other ROM, or only on Endymion? Have you tried Reaper and tried to reproduce the problem there?
I'm quite inexperienced in this business - I've rooted and installed my phone because it got broken during an official upgrade to a higher Android version. Therefore, Endymion is the first and only custom ROM I've tried so far and to be honest I don't feel like backing up and setting up everything on my phone again. (unless I actually have another choice, that is)
And I'm using the Unity kernel from this forum if it could help.

Why use Unity kernel with Endymion when Endymion kernel is excellent on the ROM by itself?
I would suggest you try another ROM like Reaper and see if the problem persists...
Someone who appeared to quite well-versed in rooting etc. advised me to use "a faster kernel" and suggested the Unity kernel. I don't understand this a tiny bit so I followed the advice. However, I don't think the kernel is the cause because I installed it long before the problem occured.

Why I asked you to try another ROM is because if my hunch is correct, you have a hardware problem... I just didin't want to say it till we had ruled out the software issue. This is the exact same thing that happened to my wife's phone a month after purchasing it (Desire S) and HTC put it down to a hardware problem (mainboard) and replaced the device free of cost under warranty (wife never allowed me to touch her phone, so it was S-on, stock!!)
I hope you don't have the same problem, but it sounds exactly like the problem my wife's phone had... the only way is to flash another ROM and see if the issue persists. Make a nandroid backup. What have you got to lose?
What I've got to lose is the time spent, but I guess I have no other choice so I'll get around to it as soon as I find the time.
If it's HW problem I may encounter some trouble as I've bought the phone from an e-shop that sells unofficially distributed phones because they offer considerably lower prices, although it is true that the customer service and complaints may be rather poor.
I'd have to send the phone to them and wait like a month or so until they finally decided that my complaint wouldn't be accepted :-D Not to mention that I would have to unroot the phone and change it back to the S-ON setting.
Anyway, let's hope for the best.
Shameless bump - I'd like to ask a question about Titanium Backup.
I've backed up my installed apps but would like to know whether it will be OK if I back up the system and user data - I don't if it matters that the data will be from a different ROM - in other words, if the system structure doesn't change.
For contacts backup Google sync will be the best I guess.
EDIT:
Installed Reaper 1.6 and the problem is gone. I lost some data in the process as Titanium backup didn't back up the notes from Endymion HTC Notes, never mind, though.
EDIT2: EPIC FAIL! I was probably just unlucky not to see the phone flashing for a long time but today I've seen the screen turning on of its own accord again. Repair service, here I come! :-(

[Q] Galaxy Note Issues HELP!!!!

Hi, I just switched from Iphone 3GS to galaxy note and I regretted this decision. I really like android but there are a few issues on my note. I bought a note a month ago and........
- Phone randomly shut down and had to do battery pull
- Failed to detect sim card sometimes (simcard is new)
- Sometimes battery drop at least 40% or more in one second (Should have taken more screen shots on that) Battery last for 8 hours only and phone stays in my bag from 9am to around 4pm (not in use)
- Screen issue (Black colour not even on videos photos and it is VERY noticeable)
- Sometimes freeze for 30 seconds whenever I open ANY application or surfing web
So I am sending the device back and with these many faults they refuse to replace it. They told me they will repair it but I doubt they can bring it back to 100%.
I need some advice, or has anyone else experience these many faults on their note? I am really unlucky. SIGH
You probably have a bad batch. Mine is working fine and dandy. Either get a refund and purchase a new one or get some other phone if you really hate the Note.

I really liked the NOTE. I will not switch to another phone. The problem is that Mobiciti after knowing that I have these issues, they won't refund or replace, they will only repair it for 30 business days!!!!
Were u on stock firmware? If yes, ask for a replacement......those assholes wont be able to fix it!
Yes, everything is stock. I've only install a few games, viber and whatsapp and a few other entertainment apps.
I called, emailed and called to ask for a replacement but they keep telling me they won't replace it, they can only repair it. I did tell them that I am 100% positive that they won't be able to fix everything and I have to waste money for postage fee sending it again and again and still they refuse.
I won't be making any purchase from Mobiciti anymore. Service is not good.
network usually will give you 14-28 days for a swap of a handset since you got it after that you just have to read the fine print. Check also your manufacturers warranty.
I know but I contacted them within the period and they told me that they won't replace it.
I would recommend reading all your T&C's and try to shoot them down.

Well I don't have the Note, but I would try do do a factory reset and a few charge/discharge cycles before turning it in.

That is probably the most hilarious battery drop i have ever seen.
You have no country listed but i assume from the provider, you come from the land down under. I know for a fact that Australia has very strict and specific laws when it comes to merchandise, regardless of where it was purchased. It seems to me that Mobi is making an issue out of the usage but at the very least you should be able to do a device swap. I would go into the store and fight with them...
Definitely you got a faulty device. No big deal, your replacement should work fine.

Hi guys,
Finally an update after 3 weeks sending in the device.
Mobicity refuse to replace the device, in fact, they are looking for a suitable OS for my Note.
I don't understand why are they doing this.
Looking for a suitable OS means my device is not behaving normally and that means it is defective. Shouldn't they be replacing it instead of looking for another OS which is 90% of the time doesn't fix the issue.
I am really not satisfied with Mobicity and won't be trading with them anymore.
What do you think guys? Anyone agree with what I think?

Hi, so I have been using my MT since September. It is my first MT and happy with it. Currently running TG CM7 on it. However the phone started to freeze once in a while for like half a minute. Soft keys are not responding unless I turn off and back on the screen. These also happen when I was still using the stock rom. Also there are dust under the screen, and I heard that the only thing I can do is ask for a replacement.
I would like to ask y'all how to have a replacement of the MT? Should I call VM or is there any online help on their website (Because my English isn't that good)? Would they still let me have a replacement since I have it for about 10 months? Also I knew I should flash back to stock rom, but do I have to remove CWM as well? If so how do I do that?

The soft key non responsiveness is a hardware problem on all triumphs. I've heard alot of ppl say that happens to them. Mine does it too but not too often, and I also have a lil bit of dust under my screen but I can only see it when its extremely bright outside.
If those two things really bug you, I wouldn't get another phone because they might be present with then new (refurbished) phone you get from them.
If you want a replacement, I have found that the best way to get in touch with them is through the VM social care dept. Don't call and talk to tech support. It can get really annoying. Instead send an email to [email protected], leave a comment on Virgin Mobile USA's Facebook page, or tweet @VMUCARE on Twitter.
When I had to have a few things fixed on my account, these guys helped me out right away!
As far as getting a replacement, I'm pretty sure you can up to a year from the purchase date. And I've heard of ppl sending their phones back to them with CM7 still installed, but I would re-install the stock rom just to be safe.

Thank you for the tips! May I also ask, when I bought my MT in BestBuy, I had also bought the 1 or 2 years warranty thing. Does that do anything with replacing the phone? Or could I just take it to BestBuy to ask for replacement?

I believe since you bought the warranty through Best Buy you can just go back there and have them replace the phone for you. Just mention the hardware problems to them and I don't see why they wouldn't. From what I have heard, a lot of Best Buy associates are familiar with the Triumph's problems and that it has been returned a lot and automatically know why your there haha. Weather they will give you a brand new one, or have VM send you a refurb... I'm not exactly sure.

[Q] Having trouble, need help

This is my first post and i opened an account to get help for my new HTC 8x. This is my first smartphone too. Bought it about a month ago from Ebay UK. But the phone came out to be a problem for me. I am a noob and finally i came to know that this is a demo phone.
1. I took some pictures, loaded some videos but next day the phone automatically delete all these including my customization. How to stop it doing that?
2. It will automatically show a demonstration screen after 3 minutes. How can i remove that?
3. I can not add my own email/facebook/twitter accounts. Even i can not use outlook.
I can still use this phone if i can manage to get a solution for above 3 problems. This is first high tech phone for me in exchange of my hard earned money. Please suggest and help.
I have no option to return the phone back as it is already 15 days over.

So sorry to hear that you have a problem with the phone.
I am not sure if I can really be of any help to you, but I will try to get some insights into this from other people I know.
Do you have these issues right from the beginning?
Did you try reset your phone? Reset option is under settings > about
I think the phone is programmed to behave that way.
See generally a demo phone is where people will take photos to test the camera, etc. and these things are automatically cleared each day,
making it a fresh for other customers.
Demonstration screen, same, to demonstrate the phone to the customer.
And generally demo phones won't allow you to add any accounts, since the phone is only for demo.
To overcome these issues, you have to flash a different ROM, if you are sure that is a UK phone, then you can try flashing the generic
ROM for UK phone, that should remove the existing version and install a usable version. THIS IS JUST AN IDEA. Please do thorough research
before flashing any ROM.
Meanwhile if I have anything to help you, I will post back here.

[Completed] I backed up my software with Titanium Backup and Now it can't locate files

I bought a zenfone 2e and liked it so much I bought the ZE551ML. I was a certified IBM, Texas Instruments and Apple technician for the new personal computers in the late 70's and 80's and I also wrote custom software for hospitals , so I don't consider myself a stupid person. But I just bought my first 2 smartphones in the last month and have really enjoyed playing with them, I also bought a Sandisk 64GB card to backup and store a lot of these programs so I would have plenty of space left in the phone itself.
To get back to my problem, I temporarily rooted my zenfone 2 with CWM and I can't get to Recovery now. I also stupidly deleted some of the bloatware as soon as I got the phones, now I see that was a major error. I did not try to save a copy of the system ROM as well, so I have some problems that appear major to me at this time. So I went to Titanium backup to restore my information that I had saved, althought I can't remember if I deleted bloatware before or after the backups.
I have installed and deleted so many programs in the last month my head is still spinning, it's a new TOY. LOL I also set my screens up just like I wanted them and had everything working perfect, I thought. At this stage I just want to get back to the original starting point and add the new update that just came out. And then I will proceed carefully from that stage, usually I am the one telling and showing everyone else how and what to do on their computers, and I overestimated my knowledge of Android and under estimated the ability of the smart phones tremendously. That's what happens sometimes when you get over 65 and think your brain is as good as it once was, my mistake., I can't even find things i set down ten minutes ago some times.
!!! How can I get back to a full system reset!! IT could be as simple as starting to do a CWM and then tell it to do a system reset, but i don't know for sure and I certainly don't want to Brick my phone.
If somebody could please help me reset the phone I would certainly appreciate it.
