Maybe he's a real good "master"in wm, and can istall wm5, but remember, his rom couldn't be be good for your Magician... Other solution, you can buy cd with eten m500 upgrade for 50 Euro. This CD contains ActivSync 4.1, upgrade from wm2003se to wm2005, and other things that you need to syncronize your MDA.

I would bet he is a crook. If there is of any way that he is able to run WM5 on Magician, you would have heard it in the best forum of all.. HERE! Of all the experts here agree there isn't an chance of getting WM5 running on Magician, I won't bet $50 on it.
Anyway, as for the Eten version, it won't work on Magician too. I mean, there are tons of WM2K to WM5 upgrades for other units, and if the modifications were to be so simple, I bet these people would have modify it for Magician.

i called with a german firm to ask how does a upgrade from 64 to 128 Mb costs also the question if it is possible run wm2005 after this upgrade they said to me that there is a posibilty, but it runs very very very slow
so in the i didn't made this upgrade but also wm2005 is not fully developed so let's see what comes

AFAIK it is not possible to install WM5 on JAM because of 64MB of memory only and lack of appropriate drivers.
theoreticaly WM5 can run (but will be useless) on 64MB as i tried to run it on emulator with that much of memory but it hanged and no more memory to run anything.
running it on JAM is a total different story because of hardware and drivers limitation as no one succeded to run it on the 128 JAM version!
again theoretically IF MS provided a WM5 with the correct drivers it will be possible to run it on 128MB JAM.
untill then it will not happen.

Well, IMHO, all vendors should give WM6 upgrade to their WM5 devices since MS is not charging anything from them to do the upgradation.
Just saw somewhere on the web that the HP has announced to give their hx2xxx owners free WM6 upgrade. Now, thats too cool
I was thinking about the selling of my Qtek 9000, because Im looking for someting new (my favourite is Imate Ultimate 7150), but the official WM6 upgrade is good reason why still stay with Universal

afaik, HTC dont support the Universal with WM6, meaning that carriers can't either.

But, imate has not yet announced to offer WM6 upgrade, unlike htc/dopod :\
edit: also, since imate has divorced htc from quite a long time, jasjam won't be getting any upgrade. afaik, jasjam is the only device which could have got the upgraded to wm6 because it was manf by htc. After jasjam, they came with the non-htc products

A guy from UK who claims to be official "Orange phone trainer" (Orange is a mobile operator in UK) claims that Orange Academy both Microsoft trainer and Orange employees were claiming that ROM upgrade for Orange SPV M500 Pocket PC phone (also for C550 smartphone) is coming.
If this would happen, then also users of other HTC Magician phones (like i-mate JAM, T-Mobile MDA Compact, Vodafone VPA Compact, Qtek S100, etc):

as posted under the smartphone main section, I was at the Orange Academy today. Good news to come from the event is that Microsoft and Orange are currently busy preparing a WM5 upgrade for both the C550 and the M500!

im pretty sure that this is an MDA Compact II or the HTC Charmer and not a magician, because i find it illogical that a telco will still produce a rom upgrade for a very old device which no retailer is selling anymore, and while i still entertain the thought that it may be an unofficial WM5 Rom, still, i would doubt it. Such a rom would have been posted already here.

I think it`s because some I-Mate models are non HTC manufactured as this forum specializes on HTC, but a Mod or Admin could give a better answer.

i have an imate 8502 as well as samsung i780, there is an 6.1 upgrade on this forum for the imate... and i am very happy with it...
just to let you know imate is in truble with money...
I actually knew that iMate is in trouble financially, but that doesn't mean we can have cooked roms. I was hoping that there would be some cooked rom that would free up more program memory and remove some of iMate's bloatware.

i got it for free thats why i am using it, if you ask me to buy a product which may not have support in near future i will not buy it... and u are right about the things imate have loaded on it are useless to most of us... i hope those could be removed..

Wow, you really are going for some older hardware there! In fact, it may be difficult to find new Wizards and Prophets!
If you want to save money, you are probably going to be better off at this point going with a Hermes or a Kaiser. I can personally recommend the Hermes as I have had one, but I know lots of Kaiser owners out there who love their machines too. Both are well-rounded machines with loads of functionality. I haven't looked lately, but I bet you could get a new Hermes for around US$300 if you shopped around a little. Kaisers will probably be a bit more.
If you are looking for something smaller and don't need the keyboard, you can probably find a good deal on an Elf.
All three of these models were very popular, but have pretty much run their course. No doubt some merchants who have over-bought these models are trying to get rid of them before they become completely obsolete.

I live in Pakistan, there are alot of Wizards available and I can get a second-hand wizard in good condition for $90-100. Ive checked on Hermes, It is available for almost $270-290 (second-hand)
Im giving prices as I want to get maximum out of my savings (same old problem with students!)

The Kaiser/TyTN II is the only one with an official WM 6.1 upgrade. Both the Prodigy/Wizard and the Hermes/TyTN have unofficial WM 6.1 ROMs (made by the cookers here at XDA). Most of the unofficial WM 6.1 ROMs for the Wizard have been abandoned by their cookers.

i would angree with that, have you taken a look in the wizards section?, a new ROM releases every day, esp the TouchHD CRS Series

just weigh all the pros and cons and gimme a suggestion - ill go for it!
i have a hermes with t-mobile 6.1 ROM. Its a very good allrounder. Decent performance.
I just upgraded to a Kaiser and ams o far very impressed. Big step up in general performance over the hermes. A lot more responsive.
But a good deal more expensive too.
if you can stretcht to a Kaiser i'd get that. otherwise the Hermes is a very capable device.
ELFin
This week a pal bought a Mint ELFin for US$350.00 shipping included via Ebay. I've owned many smartphone and some touch phones...as I keep saying...the EFLin to today is my favorite. Why? Small, with a pcm keyboard, Manila, and a few other goodies, it will give a run to any phone out there on the market.
