Transparent Task bar - General Topics

Anyway to make the task bar transparent?

Yep -- Check this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=54567&highlight=inittray
Page 1, Post #6 -- gives you the init_tray download to use to remove it.

Thanks newbie2
im sorry but what i meant is to make the Start (Top) bar,s background color transparent.

Sorry -- I misunderstood.
For that, you want to see THIS thread --
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=27331&highlight=vjtoggletoday
There's separate links for WM2003 and WM5, so be sure to download the right version for your OS

oldsap: I think you know VJToggleToday already.
If you truly want to make its background transparent, I think you'd have to subclass its paint routine and make it transparent yourself. I've not seen anyone do this yet, but it's feasible-ish.

@newbie2, thanks.
@vijay,
yes sir i know the togglestart apps. I have tried it but im still having trouble with the background image looping over and appearing at the bottom of the screen. And another is that the VJOKBUTT app sometimes doesnt work for some apps. any way to fix this? Thnaks.
EDIT - sorry vijay, the VJOKBUTT v0.752 works fine
This is the screenshot i saw on another forum:

Have you tried ThemeGenCE 1.6?? Meschle has been INVALUABLE in helping me out with this same issue using ThemeGen. You can download it here -- http://www.codeppc.com/telechargements/themegence/themegence.htm
I'd be glad to help you out with it, if you want to PM me, and I'm sure there are others who will, as well. The image "looping" was driving me CRAZY until I found out how to correct it.

That's not making the bars transparent, it's making the theme background for the Start Bar and the New Bar skin the same as the wallpaper, using WisBar, so it looks like the wallpaper extends from top to bottom with no breaks.
For VJToggleToday, remember that you have to create a new theme .tsk with a larger wallpaper. The normal wallpaper is 320-26-26 pixels. You need to make a wallpaper that's 320 pixels so the wallpaper doesn't repeat.

That's what I was trying to help him do. While I realize that it's not going to make the bars transparent, by using your tool to remove the bars and by making the theme larger to fit the entire screen, it will give pretty much the same effect that he's wanting. At least, that's what I've done to get the same effect. Perhaps I should have explained myself better to begin with.

newbie2: I understood that from your post. My apologies, I was ambigious in my previous post - I was referring to oldsap's screenshots, that show Wisbar running. Wisbar has native support for skinning the New Bar and Start Bar (of course).
The VJToggleToday method is what I use, but I don't use a coloured background at all, since I find it optically distracting for my limited neural capacity.
V

@vijay: Thanks for pointing out that the screenshot i posted used WISBAR (which i dont like because of the BIG RAM usage)
EDIT - How come when i assign VJOKBUTT to a HW key it works while if i use it in CLaucnh it doesnt work?
@newbie2: Thnaks for the PMs
Guys, what i realized is that i'd better make the TOP BAR hidden and keep the bottom bar present because even if i DO hide the bottombar, i still wont be able to use that space. I'll try to post my Today screen later (for you to critisize )

oldsap: how are you trying to use VJOkButt from claunch?
VJOkButt will emulate use of the Ok/Close button in the active app. Presumably if you're using it from claunch, your active app is the Today screen, in which case, it is generally programmed to task switch through all active apps on subsequent presses of the VJOkButt key, closing or minimising them per key press.
V

i used the ToggleStart app to remove the topbar, then i have cLaunch plugin on top with the VJOKBUTT shortcut icon in it. Then when i open the Messaging window and try to close it with the VJOKBUTT icon, it doesnt seem to work

Thanks to newbie2 now ive got a FULL Today BG image while using vijay's Toggle new and toggle start

Looks GREAT!! I knew you could do it!! You just needed the right tools.

Yes, as I thought. VJOkButt detects the currently active window - it's usually launched by a hardware key or shortcut while another app is active. However, the VJToggleToday hack is showing the Today screen at the top of the screen.
Thus, although it seems like you've got messaging etc open, your active window when you click on claunch is the Today screen. Does this only happen with Messaging? I can look into it and try to fix this if its a unique problem.
Lovely setup btw! Can you post a screenshot in use (eg in another app) - I've never seen anyone else use VJToggleToday like I do, with PhoneAlarm at the top.
V

Here is a screenshot using TodayToggle, phonealarms at the top, while creating a new message:

I like the fullscreen without topbar bottombar
I am german , so please can anybody tell what steps an apps to install , now I don t know what to translate , what apps to use for make fullscreen , or maybe in registry

Question to Vijay555 on your today screen

Hi Vijay
You have a very interesting and easy-to-read today screen.
I copied this linked screenshot from one of your posts:

Would you mind documenting what theme you are using, where to get it and where you got the PhoneAlarm skin.
Also, would you mind letting us know all the other items that appear on your screen. I have tried searching but to no avail. I have visited your site and not found anything (but that may be a user problem )
Thanks.
try tis

I couldn't have said better myself lol!
Also check out the screenshot further down that thread (not quite integrated but I'll explain)
:
The upper screenshot is based on a device running VJToggleToday II to shrink down the start bar (the bar right at the top) to 2pixels and remove the Soft Keys at the bottom.
After that, I'm running PhoneAlarm by Pocketmax, with my skin found also in the VJToggleToday thread, http://www.vijay555.com/vj/FullToday/VJTinyToday.zip
It's designed for use with VJToggleToday so that it replaces/auguments the Start Bar - read that thread for info.
Then I'm running SmallMenu as shown in the lower pic to replace the start button for better access to apps.
Next is AlarmToday by PocketMax - I did do some skinning to it but it's not shown in that shot (well only minor changes shown to some icons; the further skinning is just visible on the edge of the 2nd screenshot)
Weather plugin - can't remember, but that will depend on your location.
Next is some blank space courtesy of an unreleased plugin called VJTodaySpacer.
Finally at the bottom is VJAccioPhone, incorporating an autosizing quotes app (derived from QOTD), launcher app (the 4 icons going around the clock), clock, alarm icon, date on the calendar (which you can't tell, but is also rotated a few degrees to match the skin), last call info, last sms info, volume icon, temperature, battery status, operator icon and then some other stuff on the "i" icon. VJAccioPhone is unreleased and won't be released in its current form.

Thanks, Vijay.
Where can I get the today theme you are using? My TyTN is virtually unreadable in direct sunlight - I think your theme would help with this.
Quad, I'm not using a theme. I use a blank wallpaper (ie a white backdrop), and eliminate all standard Today features, so no theme.
The plugins I'm using are listed above.
If you're using a hermes, make sure you use VJLumos III to brighten your screen for outdoor use/irritating the wife in bed.

That's not strictly true, but for all intents and purposes I am not using the standard features of a theme (ie BaseHue and Wallpaper etc).
What I do:
I use CETuner, a splendiferous app that is not fully WM5 compatible, but again, as far as I'm concerned, works great.
Using that, I configure my font sizes, colours for all the usual theme elements, scrollbar sizes etc, and save that internally, and export it as a theme.
Next, I use an art program and make a blank, white image. Save as a bitmap to the device.
- I load the prepared theme.
- I go to Settings > Today and load my white backdrop as a backdrop.
This is not a perfect solution to "disabling" the theme, but CETuner gives me great control over configuration of the device, from the PDA rather then a PC based theme editor.
In the above screenshots I'm using VJToggleToday to remove the Standard OS start bar and SoftKeys.
I use SmallMenu Plus to overlay a better Start Button, and that gives task control and launcher, conveniently hidden when not needed (and also access to the normal Start Bar using VJToggleToday)
I don't think that particularly clarifies anything, but that's me..

Fixed some TF3D issues

--->>> Guide with Pictures www.dangdeals.com/tf3d <<<---
How do you guys like it?
I was having an issue where no matter what transparent clock I would use it would always have this ugly gray background (On the ATT Fuze). Well I fixed it and have not seen this method anywhere else yet.
1st download link for .NetCF v3.5 http://rapidshare.com/files/163581767/NETCFv35.wm.armv4i.cab
2st you need to download Diamond TF3D Config (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405749)
3nd download the original black TF3D theme. Link under the images. THIS HAS THE START MENU BACKGROUND COLOR FIX!!
4rd Use the Diamond TF3D Config to install the black theme and let the device restart.
5th Download the Manila Customizer (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=437420)
6th Go here and download all the TF3D stuff. Like new clocks and the slide bar ect ect. Go through all the posts and download them all like it did. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444463)
7th Open up Manila Customizer and change your clock. Now you can have a transparent flipping clocks on the Fuze. And it gets rid of the ugly ATT tab.
8th Download this file to set your background on all the tabs ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2910876&postcount=10 ) Credit: mUn
9th For the black dialer you have to download the cab from this post. (Note: Landscape mode does not work yet but will be fixed soon. I goes back to the normal dialer in landscape.)

How do you change the background image? Tks for the original black theme.
I can't take credit for the Black Theme. But you scroll all the way to the right select wallpapers. And pick a picture (Note: It only shows up on the home screen.)
GTO what is that picture or who is that picture in your example?
Some picture I found on google images. Here ya go.

Thanks for your attachment, then. Frankly speaking, you save me a headache.
I found out a way to make the wallpaper show up on all pages. However, there is another issue; the slider button is off-center I've read somewhere about this issue while I was looking for a way to modify TF3D, but read a few hundreds papers kill me.
Do you have any ideal to fix that?
Hmm I could look into the offcenter slider. How did you get it to apply to all pages?
Install the attachment cab below and you're set. Credits to mUn.
Edit: I re-install the theme and it is fixed now.
Awesome thanks! I have been looking for that for a little bit now.
Has anyone fixed the "slowdown" lag with the black theme? I installed it, and it seemed to lag quite a bit.
Yeah when I 1st installed the Black theme it lagged alot but after changing the clock type and such it sped right back up so I dunno.
Here is the demon wallpaper. Putting it up because it was requested a few times. I added it to a zip so it wouldn't show up as a thumbnail because there is a nipple in it and didn't want anyone to get in trouble at work.
after changing my clock, it only displays 0:00 now. although if i flip it up to hide it, it does show the current time. and how do i restore everything back to as if i never installed manila, just in case i wanted to. ive tried uninstalling manila but it still doesnt work.
EDIT: nevermind i got everything back to normal, but im still wondering about the 0:00.
my clock is stuck at 0:00 too. is there a fix for this? I couldnt find one by searching the posts.
I found that installing the black theme then editing it got rid of the 0 on the clock. If I just edited the stock theme it would stay at 0.
is your start drop down menu all black? cause mine is and its kinda hard to read.
Mine is black aswell. I have seen a fixed theme but because I use the quck launch thing in TF3D I have not worried about it. If you find the theme and post it up I will edit the 1st post.

wktask for wm6.5

For those like me that really like wktask (like Chutney and me ), here's a modified version of the latest release that will work ootb on wm6.5. Two tips: in the 'skins' tab, disable the skins for the X/OK buttons (ugly), and in the 'design' tab, set it to use Custom Color Settings, and set both to black. Ofcourse you'll have to adjust the offset for the icons in the 'General1' tab to your own likings, but that seems obvious.
I'm very happy with this, I can instantly see which progs are open and access them. It also has a reboot option in the menu. Enjoy.
Thanks Appelsap +1 for this!
Thanks Appelsap,
I will give it a try right now. I've always liked this soft.
Thanks. Will try it soon.
Once installed I cannot find the WkTask settings Icon in Programs. I just have the Launcher one.
[EDIT: Ok, I see. found it. I guess it's a language matter. It tries to install the icon in "Start menu" instead of "Menu Démarrer" in French)
Just wonder this modified one will stop the HD2 going back to Start Menu.
I have the said problem with the Wktask from the official site. Even I hide the start icon.

Just select the Start 'app', and select Hide Always, it'll never show as an app again, and so you can't accidently close it. I'll see if I can add that to the .cab. Dunno about the transparancy, I guess it should be possible, I'll look into that.
Screenshot screenshot...
It's not possible to make the top bar transparant. However, it is possible to give it a solid black color so it blends in with the black taskbar (see screenshot): Tab Design > Use Custom Color Settings > Browse to black for both Background Gradiation Color.
In the registry it is represented as:
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\waku\w]
"EndColor"=dword:00000000
"StartColor"=dword:00000000
"UseCustomColor"=dword:00000001
To exclude Start / Manilla, use:
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\waku\w\ignore\000]
"HideTask"=dword:00000001
"DontClose"=dword:00000000
"FileName"="\windows\manila.exe"

Thx for the swift reply appelsap & pinobigbird (hey mannen ) but thats exactlly what i did, i dont have a regeditor installed yet (toddeswe; or screenshot app to make a screenshot) but i have \windows\manila.exe as path, and set to hide, but it keeps returning.
The black bg i already set (downloaded cab from first post) transparancy was just a thought, no biggy that it cant be done (be it for now or always)
But yea, any thought on the manila? or should i use double slashes? (im under the impression thats solely some sort of character escaping, thus only visible in regeditor)

I dont think so, as I said... it only works on 6.5.x versions.
Because only these supports the thicker bottombar and the thinner topbar.
But you can always give it a try, it wont damage your phone.
But I am sure it wont work.

Well here's a newer HD Mini WVGA theme, it also contains the newer (hd mini) button layout (which means no start/close button, see my previous topic here) and this might need a reboot.
This updated theme is created to be dark gray so it'll save ur battery life + to reduce possible burned-in color/pixels (this seems to happen with white colors on an amoled screen).
The theme will work on WVGA (800x480) and vga (640x480)...
NOTE: Be carefull cz this theme will change ur button layout, just ask me if you want the same theme without this layout and i'll upload it aswell but as this is my own personal theme I left it like this. If you dun want this theme or the butlon layout you can simply uninstall it and reboot and it'll be ok again!!!!
Example of the possible button layout (Graphics will be different these are the older buttons but is just an example of the current button layout possibilities) see also this topic.
1: no button's like hd mini
2: normal (with start and close button) wm6.5.3
3: no start button but has close button
UPDATED at 21-8-2010 11:30:
I've made a mistake yesterday (yeh it was late) so uploaded the wrong file... here are the right ones, I've made a dark and white version so choose what you like.
And here are also the separate button layout (patches) if you want to change it (back).
Looks good Jeff!
Don't forget to put it in the another bigger threat too, located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6158723
There is only one little bug I see, the text in the topbar, it's black, does not combinate right with the black topbar, maybe you should make it white?
realized that I uploaded the wrong file yesterday (it was late already ), so please download the right file now... believe it'll look better now I promise
So there were 5 downloaders you know it was you so delete the old file and redownload and select this theme a default please

ok fixed the bug for the title bar will upload soon.
k just fixed the title bar issue and some other glitches...
Just remember... you gotta reboot after swithing from a black to a white theme and other way around or you will have problems with the colors (like in the dialer background). But like I said this is fixed after a reboot...
I own a HTC Touch Pro and recently i have installed ur 'HD Mini theme' and i have to say i like it a lot. However the Touch Pro doesn't have a hardware start button but i will like to retain the look of the HD Mini layout while keeping the fuctionality of the start button. So i came up with this idea, replace the hardware home button and program it to be a start button and add a shortcut for the home screen on the start menu to retain the fuction of the home button. But the problem is that is it possible to do this? I think is possible, i have seen some who owns a HTC Diamond using a similar therory to achieve this, but the problem is that i don't know how to do it. Just wondering if the OP or anyuser kind enough to help make a cab for it. Thanks in advanced.
The best and the most simple solution for you is, I think, to change this reg key :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\BubbleTiles\HardwareStartKeyEnabled="1" Change it to "0"
...then you get your Start soft key button, and you still have your stock Home button functionnality which is useful.
Very nice theme, however I found a little bug in calandar and contact because the text windows background is white an the text white, so it's not possible to see what you write, you can see the text only when you go to the next text windows.
There is a way to solve this issue?

[ICONS] Android Phone 7++

All credit goes to newone757 (see this thread) for the original idea, inspiration and most importantly the PSD template with which I made these icons. Without further ado:

"lightbox_next": "Next",

What you will need:
1. Desktop Visualizer for the icons/"tiles"
2. Launcher Pro Plus (though ADW Launcher's widget resizing function may work just as well) with homescreen set at 4 columns and 5 rows
Widgets used in these screenshots are Battstat ("small, numbers") and Digital Clock Widget by Maize (the date's text is set to black and therefore invisible). The vertical Power Control Widget comes with CyanogenMod6 (thank you, Cyanogen and #teamdouche!). Please note that I made the icons so that they're displayed optimally when you hide the status bar, as that's the display I prefer. The font used is, naturally, Zegoe/Segoe UI.

Icon pack: Download

I'll probably make and upload more icons later for essential functions like browser, gmail, calendar and so on.
looks very nice; however, i think the icons for my6sense, laputa, cachemate, and titanium backup could use more colors to match with the rest of the other icons
i wanna design a 2x1 icon
what the dimwnsions should be ? for HDPI
Can someone explain real quickly how I can change out the image in PhotoShop? I learned how to edit the text in the layers of the template, but I can't seem to figure out how to change the actual image or insert a new one. TIA!
Love it! Thnx!
Looks great. Just finished using the original icons on my setup. Does anyone know what the screen resolution changes to when you switch from 240 LCD density, to 200? I'd love to resize the icons to fit perfectly, but right now it just looks like crud, lol
Sorry, been busy. But:

You will want the original PSD templates (download from newone's thread), not my PNG. If you've got those already, just click on the layer with the image, select the image and delete it. Find a new one, paste it on and it should remain behind the text layer.
Added icons for Quickoffice/documents to go, twitter, mail, browser, maps/car home, and file explorer.
Looks nice. Could someone make a youtube vid of the workings?
Can someone create a icon for the Bible please.

If you set it to vertical, it doesn't show highlights.
Here's a mirror for the first icon pack: http://hotfile.com/dl/71253135/a21fe23/grainysand_wp7tiles.zip.html

awesome thanks man, that link worked
great icons can't wait for more
what do u have set up for the folder icon? cause I am drawing a blank on finding a work around to have it open a actual folder, if that's possible
The folder icon is actually for folder organizer. Obviously, not enough space for "folder organizer" as a title. So it goes with several other icons, hence the icon for Dropbox being a picture of a box with the caption "drop."
If you've got any apps you'd like icons for, feel free to request.

Hi,
I sent you a PM, not sure if you got but I'd pay you to custom make some images for me for my Nexus if I sent the pics to you? I don't have the proper software program to make them. Please let me know. I wouldn't ask you to do them for free and I feel that people who design stuff for us should be rewarded for their time and work.
Thanks in advance hopefully.
Apparently I disabled e-mail notifications for PMs. What do you have in mind? If it's more icons, making them is really very easy and I wouldn't want to take payment for it especially when I'm using someone else's photoshop template to start with.

With the same links listed in that first link I posted.
And I wouldn't mind if you wanted to get paid for your time. I just can't seem to get PSD to work for.
Thanks in advance if you didn't mind doing it. It'll be greatly appreciated.

Hmm... I've been using the vertical bar since updating to CM6 final, but the highlight has always been there for wifi and airplane mode. Don't see an option of removing them either.
