I just recieved my xda exec o2 from the uk. I live in usa virginia. I had a t mobile mda unlocked with cingular service, or the old at&t and could get reception in my room 2 bars. With the 02 i cant get a signal unless i go outside my house and even then its a bit bad.
I had wm5 but upgraded to 6, i had the .9 rom, went to 1.8 then 1.5 still they act the same.

If you're with AT&T (Cingular) and in the area where they use 850 MHz for coverage, that might be one of the reason. Universal (xda exec) doesn't cover that frequency. Universal is a tri band and not a quad band phone.
ya u may be right, cuz the mda, erickson and razr all work in the house
i mean when i leave the house it gets better, is there anyway i can improve the reception this phone is so much better than the mda dangit
On yet another visit to Australia I thought I hade cracked it ,with cdma being switched off at the end of January and all my friends having nextg phones on 850mhz I thought my o2 orbit or the mini s (both 850mhz) would work but no luck They did roam in the city but not in the remote parts
if I put my uk o2 sim in one of their nextg phones my number did work at the remote locations
So has any one got any ideas what I need to do to get a fully roaming phone
thanks
John
Has anyone tried this?? If I were to buy the phone w/o att will they unlock it no problem?
thx
they don't want to unlock it even if you pay full price, but they will give up if you insist long enough to one of their customer service representatives
what I did was to pay full price for the phone and get a new number and sim card with a prepaid plan, after spending my $25 from prepaid minutes I called and explained I no longer wanted their service and had paid full price, eventually they agreed to unlock it by giving me a code.. Insert a simcard from another operator and the screen asking for the code will show up.
3g on t-mobile is not working, but everything else does. At least for me. I'm using the Elite RC1 ROM
I think 3g may work if I replace the radio with one that supports 1700/2100 umts, but I don't know if that even exists
i think when the diamond first came out, it didnt support us 3g and they found a radio that allowed us 3g.
so i dont see why you shouldnt be able to get a radio that works with tmobile 3g

Nobody's been able to add a 3G band to a HTC device just by flashing the radio ROM AFAIK. When the Diamond came out, people were surprised that it didn't support the 850 MHz band like its predecessor, the Cruise, did. There was a later radio that allowed the Diamond to use the 850 MHz band, but only for GSM/EDGE. To do that, the radio in the device had to physically support the 850 MHz band. No subsequent radios, even the one from the US Diamond (which was identical to an already-released radio ROM) were able to make a Euro Diamond use US 3G. The only HTC-made device I know of that uses T-Mobile's AWS 3G band is the T-Mobile G1.

i knew i was probably wrong.
thanks for clarifying on this whole thread.
Fuze Working on ATT
So the radio that's in the FUZE won't work on Tmobile - i don't see the bands that the Gphone has. This really makes me wonder if I really want to switch over to ATT. technically I hate ATT.
It's like signing on to have big brother watch over you.
I have the same problem as you do. And I would switch to AT&T if it wasn't for the early termination fee in my t-mobile contract
i think thats what i am gonna do, unlock the fuze and use on t-mobile's EDGE.
i went to an AT&T store the other day and the guy explained the planes to me!!
to get something comparable to what i have with T-mobile i have to pay $130 a month for AT&T
i have the 3000 minutes regional plan $49 with total unlimited internet + access to t-mobile hotspot for $20
i pay 70 dollars
i'd have to get unlimited from at&t for $100 + $30 for internet
sprint's deal is actually isnt bad at all $99 for unlimited everything ( too bad they use CDMA, i go to the middle east once a year )
PS: work and i home i have access to a very high speed Wi-Fi
the radio will work, but you will only get EDGE speeds at best, not 3G. Tmobile's 3G band is AWS 1700 and the Fuze does not support that.
How bad is that? depends on what you do. I use my old Blackjack on Tmobile, and get about 125 kbps speeds. Enough for basic email, google maps and web browsing (when I am not carrying my Fuze)

Hi guys, I recently acquired an HTC Wizard, I unlocked it and flashed a custom rom and I really like the phone but I'm looking to upgrade. The phones I've been looking at are the Dream, Kaiser and the Fuze. I've read the reviews on the G1 and it looks good but I'm not sure I'm ready to give up windows mobile (office is handy for work). But since I hear such good things, hows it compare to the others? Is the Fuze really worth me shelling out more cash over the Kaiser (about $150-$200 on ebay)? I'm also wondering if there are any other HTC models that offer everything I want without seriously breaking the bank. It needs to have mp3, video, net, keyboard, GPS, 3g, wifi, tetherable, touchscreen and needs to be unlockable or T-mobile based. Basically just looking for some advice on the best buy for my buck. Even if it's not necessarily an HTC (hope I don't get flamed for this =P). Also one more quick question, if I'm currently on T-mobile with the non 3g wizard and I pop my sim into a 3g phone, it will work at 3g speeds without me needing to do anything (provided coverage is in my area) ? Thanks in advance.
I miss my Fuze. I ended up returning it to get a Xperia, and I regret it, due to the Xperia's subpar keyboard.
On the other hand, the Touch Pro 2 will be out soon in the US (as the HTC Fortress on AT&T at an indeterminate date and the T-Mobile Wing II in July), and that should be everything the Fuze is and more (thinner, better battery life, larger and higher res screen, etc). I'd wait for that.
As for the sim swap question, yes, it should work, assuming the phone you pop your T-Mobile sim in supports 3G at 850MHz, as that's the only frequency T-Mobile uses for 3G (as opposed to AT&T, which uses 850 and 1900 depending on area). If you use a Euro phone, expect it to only work in 1900MHz areas in the US if at all. Phones actually marketed for the US will support both 850 and 1900 bands, which means you won't have a problem.
Thanks for the info. Any idea on the cost of the touch pro 2? I wasn't really looking to break the bank but I am intrigued.

Welcome to the forum
Depending on your conuntry the price varies
Have a look on expansys to ha an idea
$600-$800USD
That's without a contract, of course. AT&T and T-Mobile should both have the Touch Pro 2 for $150-300 depending on where you order it with plans, if my guess is accurate.
Yea just checked out a video on it and it looks really nice, I'm currently on a prepaid month to month thingy with t-mobile but if I can score this phone for $200 or so with a new contract I might have too. However for the time being I might have to go pick up a Kaiser, they are half the price of the fuze used and although not as sexy still do everything I'm looking for.
Doesn't T-mobile use 1700mhz for 3g and 850 for edge/gprs? From what I've been reading the kaiser wont do 3g on T-mobile.

now I know what I have
Now after reading for more than a week
1.- I did try to flash it with the PDAJ Apache WM6.1 v2.02 without luck leaving the phone in Boot loader mode where you can read serial and V 2.0
2.- did connect the phone to the PC and you can read the connection USB in it then every time I try to flash it I get the error 150 this is not for this device or something like that
3.- After numerous attempts finally did flash it with the APA_VZW_20720_206_11000_WWE_Ship and in did it work
4.- at this time if you plug the phone to the PC you can see the main Disk (ROM I think) and the memory only so I keep trying to flash this with a generic one with the same results 150 error
5.- What I did was did change all the RUU the UI and the ROM Upgrade Ut with the nk.nbf of the generic from the APA_VZW_20720_206_11000_WWE_Ship to the generic and I have now the Generic one in the phone Windows Mobile 6 Professional CE OS 5.2.1620 Build 18125.0.4.2
ROM version 3.50.00 WWE radio 1.10.00 ExtROM version 2.07.206 WWE
6.- If I plug the phone I can see now the ROM the ext ROM 2 and the memory
My question how can you change this to be use it with another SIM (company) ?
Thanks
the phone does have a sim card tray
so it insn't a CDMA.
Thanks for the add info.
now Im' not sure
Removable User Identity Module (R-UIM) is a card developed for CDMA handsets that extends the GSM SIM card to CDMA phones and networks. To work in CDMA networks, the R-UIM contains an early version of the CSIM application. The card also contains SIM (GSM) application, so it can work on both networks. It is physically compatible with GSM SIMs and can fit into existing GSM phones as it is an extension of the GSM 11.11 standard [1].
This interface brings one of the main advantages of GSM to CDMA network phones. By having a removable identity card, CDMA users can change phones while keeping their phone numbers by simply swapping the cards. This simplifies many situations such as phone upgrades, phone replacements due to damage, or using the same phone on a different provider's CDMA network.
The R-UIM card has been superseded by CSIM on UICC. This technique allows all three applications (SIM, CSIM, and USIM) to coexist on a single smartcard, allowing the card to be used in virtually any phone worldwide that supports smart cards.
The CSIM application, a port of R-UIM functionality to the UICC, is defined in standard [2]
This form of card is widely used in China under the CDMA service of China Unicom (The CDMA service of China Unicom was acquired by China Telecom in 2008) . However, it is also used elsewhere such as India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Japan.
I can see in the phone that the DATA TRANSFER in all the ROMs that I can find is EVDO or 1X I can find one with GSM with EDGE or 3G
Data transfer
CDMA: The best data transfer technology it has to offer is the EVDO technology, allowing for a maximum download speed of about 2mb/s (about 700kbps in practice), which is similar to what a DSL line has to offer. EVDO is not available everywhere yet and requires a cell phone that is EVDO ready.
GSM: Offers EDGE, allowing for a maximum download speed of 384kbps (around 140kbps in practice). More technologies are being developed on top of EDGE such as HSDPA to boost the transfer rate to over 384kbps in practice. This technology requires an EDGE-ready cell phone.
CDMA offers faster data download and would therefore be the favoured choice for data transfer. GSM is catching up fast however, but its EDGE technology
Is there a way to enable the EDGE or 3G on this phone?
