Need older rom for t-Mobile MDA Compact II - General Topics

I made the big mistake of updating my Charmer with the latest update from T-Mobile. Where can I get the previous rom as the new one is terrible.
Any help welcome

I've uploaded the previous copy into the FTP You can get it from the ftp
You will need aWizard to flash it. I won't recommend you doing that unless you are familiar with aWizard.

I have downloaded aWizard - could you give me a step by step guide on how to flash my rom - The rom I downloaded contains many files - can you tell me where in awizard each of these goes?

I won't recommend you to do it when you are not very sure what you are doing.
Ok, you should have a 'ROM' folder under your aWizard folder. (e.g. c:\aWizard\ROM)
create a folder under this 'ROM' folder named `mda_compact2` (exactly)
(e.g. c:\aWizard\ROM\mda_compact2)
extract everything into this new folder, so, among other files, you have
(e.g. c:\aWizard\ROM\mda_compact2\mda_compact2-HTCLogo.nba)
and a folder
(e.g. c:\aWizard\ROM\mda_compact2\mda_compact2-ExtROM\)
where you have bunch of CAB files there.
go to command line, start aWizard.bat
(1) first, do a unlock CID (option u)
(2) then Enable RAPI (option e)
(3) then use the (w) to write the OS ROM into your device
after step (3), you should have a choice to select the ROM that you already put into. Follow the screen instructions from here.
NOTE: If you can't see any choices after step (3). Quit and check your folders again.
This is an early version of aWizard I'm refering to. Refer to the thread for any updates. Better read through the thread before doing so (yes, it is a long read, better a long read and a long wait if you kill your phone)

Help with step in flasing ROM to CID Locked Wizard

Following these directions I am stuck on one step and do not understand what I need to do here.
Let’s begin
1) You should disable your antivirus and firewall, close all active application at first
2) Download ROM what you want to flash at your device
3) Place nk.nbf to the ShellTool directory
4) Connect your device with usb ActiveSync, then copy Cert_SPCS.cab and EnableRapi.cab. Then setup them to the main memory. Wait some time and reboot your device. After reboot you should turn off your radio module on your device!!!
Step 3, I've found the nk.nbf file, I downloaded JAG 4.0 and also have the Shelltool downloaded, but do not see a directory anywhere, please help, thanks.
nk.nbf should be placed into the main directory where shelltool.exe is located.
also you may consider using soft spl(especially for G4). for me it is much comfortable:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=329147
i would advice you first determine what is your device G3 or G4, CID locked or not, as if you have G3 you may be able to fully unlock your wizard.
and if this is the first time you are trying to flash a rom see this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310831
if you suspect that anything is going wrong, go back and read!

Having trouble cooking in new 3D drivers

Hi all,
I'm having some trouble as to cooking in the new 3d drivers graciously provided to us by htcclassaction.org
I am quite a newb when it comes to cooking, but I think I am taking the right steps. Here is what I've done:
1. Download drivers .cab
2. Convert to OEM
3. Include in ROM
4. Flash ROM
However, once I try and run all the tests, they don't work. For example, lights.exe reports that the tutorial is finished, D3Dmemo.exe won't even open, etc.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
yes is the .dll your trying to replace in a folder or just a stand alone .dll? If its in a folder delete the whole folder then copy and paste your new .dll right into the rom. AGAIN i only use IMGFS tools to dump and cook so I don't have the rom broken into packages

help me,kaiser unlock problem

I used jumpSPL1.56 KAIS und hardSPL 3.56 w/o problems to flash to ROMeOS.
BTW the neon and Niki Radio both work, don't forget to disable proxy since some HTC Connection setup CABs have it automatically enabled.

Well, the instructions for flashing your first ROM are pretty straightforward:
1. Flash HardSPL
a. The first thing to do is to pick a ROM you want to flash, and plug in your device to your computer.
b. The chef (person who makes the ROM) will usually say which SPL he/she recommends. If he doesn't, you can just PM him.
c. Go to this page and pick the HardSPL that the chef recommends. A HardSPL Security unlocks your phone, meaning that you can flash different ROMs than the default shipped ROMs.
d. Download the Kaiser-HardSPL-versionhere.zip from the above page and extract them to a folder on your computer, for example: HardSPL.
e. Now download the attached file in this post (JumpSPLv1) and extract it to a folder on your computer, for example: JumpSPL.
f. Once you have extracted the three files to a folder, open the folder, and copy "kaiser_JumpSPL_pof_v1.nb" and "JumpSPL.exe" (no quotes) to your device.
g. Power down your device, take out your SIM and SD card (if one), then power back on the device. If it opens an emergency call screen once restarting, just click the red End key button on your device to exit and go to the today screen.
h. Open File Explorer, then open JumpSPL.exe on your device, select the kaiser_JumpSPL_pof_v1.nb, then enter in: "0x00000000" no quotes.
i. Now, if done correctly, you should be at a Tri-color screen and it should say "USB".
j. Now disable USB connections in Activesync/Windows Mobile Device Center. To do this, click on settings under Activesync or Windows Mobile Device Center (depending on if you're running Vista or XP) and UNcheck "Allow USB connections"
k. Unplug your device, wait 5-20 seconds, then plug your device back in.
l. Remember that folder that you extracted the SPL to? Well, on your computer, open that folder, then run KaiserCustomRUU.exe.
m. Click Next, Next, then Update. Wait for it to finish, then click Finish.
n. Congratulations! If done correctly, you should have HardSPL flashed on your device. To confirm this, press and hold the camera button on your device all the way while pushing the stylus into the reset hole. You should be at a tri-clor screen (called the bootloader). The second line down should say "SPL-versionhere.Hard" (no quotes). If it does, you're ready to flash! If it doesn't, please re-read all instructions.
2. Flash the ROM
a. Flashing the ROM is very easy. First, pick the ROM you like, and download it. Usually ROMs are in a .zip or .exe file.
b. Once the download is finished, extract the .zip to a folder on your computer. If it is an .exe, just run it.
c. If it was a .zip, just run KaiserCustomRUU.exe from the folder you extracted the files to, click Next, Next, then Update, then Finish. It it was an .exe that you downloaded, it should do this automatically. However, if it doesn't, it should just extract the files for you into a folder. Just follow the same procedure for a .zip file if it does do this.
d. Congratulations, you should have just flashed the ROM! If not, please re-read the instructions above.
3. Flash the Radio
a. This is where newcomers tend to become confused. Basically, you just need a radio that matches the ROM you have. One reason to tell if you do not have a correct radio is if you have camera issues, and sound issues while talking on the phone. Just remember: only flash Kaiser radios! If you try flashing a Polaris radio on your device, chances are you'll brick it.
b. You can flash the radio before or after you flash the ROM. Basically, the ROM and the Radio need to match. Chefs sometimes include Radios in their ROM, in which case you would not need to flash a new one. Just look in the thread of the ROM you want to flash to see if the chef included it. If there is an included radio, you can skip the rest of the steps. If the chef does not include a radio, he/she will usually recommend one.
c. You can download radios from here. Just download the one your chef recommends. If your chef does NOT recommend a radio, just PM him/her and ask which radio he/she recommends. Many people prefer 1.58.25.17 for its awesome battery life. 1.58.25.17 also works on many newer ROMs.
d. So, just for the sake of the rest of these steps, we are going to assume that you have flashed a newer ROM and are now going to flash Radio 1.58.25.17.
e. Now, just download 1.58.25.17 from the link I posted above (should be a .zip), extract the files to a folder on your computer, run KaiserCustomRUU.exe, click Next, Next, Update, then Finish.
f. Congratulations, you have flashed your radio and you are completely done. If, for example, you are experiencing issues with the camera and phone, just flash a different radio using the same method as posted above.
That's it.
And remember, please read the Wiki, Stickies, and G.W.E.N.I. for the answers to most of your questions. Or, you could use the wonderful Search functions of this forum.

This might get me one step closer to finding out why I can't flash a HardSPL. Tried every possible way for 2 days (questions thread here somewhere) but no luck.
I'll try some searching, but can you perhaps give the link where specific instructions above were posted? I'd like to try the seperate .exe and .nb file approach rather then the not-working-for-me JumpSPL1.xx versions. Thanks
EDIT : Don't worry, I've found the link to above...
EDIT2 : Tried above and got the white screen. Redownloaded your JumpSPL1.56 and HardSPL again and tried everything again with all my fingers crossed. IT WORKED!!!! Dunno why or how, but it did... ;-)

How to downgrade with official desktop updater!?

Hey,
I tried to pot my Treo back to WM6 from Vodafone with the original updater, but it keeps telling me that my device is not supported because of language issues (Right now there is WM6.1 working on it in english and I need to flash the German WM6). when I open the installer with WINRAR I can see a couple of *.nbh files (cheeimg.nbh and cheeimg_fw.nbh). Is it eventually possible to just take one of them and flash it? or do they anyway require to have a preinstalled stock ROM to update with them? And why are there so many other files in, when i usually actually just need one nbh file as a rom?
Thanks for helping me understand my phone
bump
i d like to know that aswell. did you fixed the issue by now?
If you want to use the official updater you need to modify the payloads.xml file.
You can find it by opening the official updater, but don't start the upgrade. Opening the updater will extract a bunch of files to your TEMP folder. The payloads.xml file will be in one of the subfolders. The folder is called something random so you'll have to seach for it, but you'll see a bunch of Palm icons in it so you'll know you're there.
You can edit the payloads.xml file with any text editor. Notepad works fine.
If you are changing carriers as part of the update, you will probably need to change the carrier code to the one matching the currently installed ROM. This is AT&T, for example.
Code:
<carrier_codes>CNG,ATT</carrier_codes>
I think Vodofone is VF, but you'll have to do some searching to confirm that.
Then you need to change the revision range to allow the downgrade.
Code:
<revision_range>
<low>1.13</low>
<high>3.00</high>
</revision_range>
Save it when you are done, and then start the updater. It should work. If not, there are plenty of posts here about downgrading ROM's, so search around until you find something that works for you.
And yes, you can extract the ROM's from a desktop updater and flash using the SD card method, assuming of course you have successfully HardSPL'd your phone. You need the CHEEIMG_FW.nbh file, but must rename it to CHEEIMG.nbh before putting it on the SD card.
You don't need to Hard-SPL in order to flash official Palm WM ROMs from a MiniSD.

[Q] Better guidelines for flashing vox

im a noob so theres no way ill manage to flash a vox phone by just reading wiki so help me out here pls.
1.i understand that i need to cid unlock my phone. but first of all i have to connect the activesync. activesync comes in varity or can i just download one from any site, do i need drivers for the phone?.
2.then i need an ApplicationUnlock.exe-file from a folder. OK so i run the exe file from my computer or do i send to the phone trough activesync and then run from there. do i have to put the folder with the exe file in the phone och the file is just enough. where in the phone should i put the folder or file.
3. what will the screen show so i know im doing the right thing here.
4. after that i should have a VOX_USPL folder with a spl_116_jockyw.bat file that i need to execute. so what do i do with this folder where do i put it, i mean should i execute it from my computer or phone?
5.so if i make to this point i should ok right? btw any reboots along the way i should be aware of? am i forgetting something more steps maybe?
6.so then i need a cooked rom right? like a folder with a bunch o files right? one of this files should be a flash.exe-file. so do i execute it from the folder in my computer while the phone is conected via activesync or do i put folder in somewhere in the phone and execute it from there. what do i do with the other files in the folder?
all this questions makes me confused about if i should or not. i just want to update the phone to 6.1 or higher, is there any official rom update that will go smoother?
The sequence of actions is a little different than you stated.
You need to application unlock the device as it is to allow subsequent actions to succeed.
You must temporarily (or permanently aka "Hard-SPL") put a bootloader on the device that ignores the CID lock. The device is NOT CID unlocked afterwards, but the "ignorant" SPL allows you to flash a cooked ROM nevertheless
Once the above is understood, reading the WIKI should give you the rest of procedures.
hi thanks so much for clearing that out, i think i kind of understand the purpose.
but as you see the wiki left me with so many specific questions regarding to all the necessery steps. if anyone can make or point me to a guide for dummies like me without skipping things that leaves me with questions like the above i would be most greatfull
