i go into settings->system and click [add ring tone]
i switch the one i want and press ok
then i go into settings->personal and click [Phone]
and find the file under the Ring tone: dropdown box
you dont go into sounds and notifications to change ring tone
If the ringtone is a .mid file, or possibly even a .wav (others will confirm?), then you first need to choose the option to 'create ringtone' on the phone before it will appear in the Notifications listbox.
On the other hand, where some users get confused, is when they cannot find a .wma file, when going into the "create ringtone" option, for the simple reason that .wma ringtones don't NEED converting, and are already in the notifications list box, if you saved them in the right place.
So for .wavs, midis, and similar, you need to first choose the option on the phone to Create a ringtone.
But for .wma files, if you save in the right place, these will NOT be available in the covert list, and instead ALREADY in the sounds and notifications drop down list.
All I had to do was to copy them into the Windows/Rings folder. And they were listed along with the original ringtones.
Is it possible to change the Ringer tone for the Sms Messages?
Thanks!
Yeah, get any .wav file you want and chuck in in your Windows directory. Now go to Start, Settings, Sounds and Notifications, Notifications (tab) and select "Messaging: New Text Message" in the top drop-down box. Make sure "Play Sound" is ticked and then select the sound in the drop-down box. Your .wav file should be there.
Thanks !!!
I tried this but it doesn't work
Hi there,
I do not get SMS sound notifications even though I have set the notification as mentioned in the o2 instructions manual. A soft and hard reset do not resolve the issue.
Any thoughts on this? Is there a windows registry hack that I can carry out in order to resolve this?
Cheers!
Henry.
Can I change my the alert in SMS Request message delivery notification. to another sound soo I have one sound for SMS alert and another for delivery notification?

Probably not, simply because Delivery Notification is sent to you as an SMS itself.
not sure if i got this right but let me try...
when you say "sms alert" does this mean the sound the xda makes when you receive an sms? if yes then the sound and notifications will allow you to change the sms sound for new text messages. or you can use mortring to customize the sms sound for each contact.
the delivery notification which sounds off when you send an sms is actually named "default". it's a wav file; you can alter the sound by overwriting it with another file. normally the default sound goes "blip" or something like that . if you have a wav file that goes...say "ok"; what you do is rename this wav file in your laptop to "default". you then copy and paste this on the windows folder of your xda. the screen will tell you something like "there is a file with a name "default"; do you wish to replace this file?"...or something like that. click ok and the default sound should be the wav file you want.
btw; if you've upgraded to wm2005 you can't overwrite the files. i used to change the default sounds in the xda with wav files i like. upon upgrading to wm2005 i found that i could no longer do this...something about the rom being write protected...
hope that helped...
I have a sound for new text messages horn.wav but I like to have another for notifications. In settings ---> Sounds and Notifications there you can make 2 different sound for MMS one for MMS notify and one for MMS New message. But only one for New SMS message :-(
Is it possible to change someting in the S100 software?
In a Nokia there is only a bib for notify and another for New SMS message

Robson, I did just what you suggested and that solved the annoying "blip"my phone's been making when receiving sms. But my main problem is that the Sounds and notification settings on my phone no longer work. No matter what alert tone I put my settings to ( i.e Text messages/Activesync/Incoming call..etc) The phone always reverts to the "Default" tone. Can you pleae help me with this...or point me to the right direction as to where I can find more answers to "sound and notification" problems. Thanks...Loids

Just for info, in my Orange Universal rom, the sent message has different tone(cant be adjusted) than message confirmation(regular recvd msg tone)
The subject basically says it. I can't find a tutorial for my specific phone the Sprint Samsung Transform. I have downloaded my songs, trimmed them down, created the ringtones folder on the root of my sd card, and dropped the mp3s in there. went back to phone settings sounds and notifications. changed my phones ringtone, that worked. now i want to change the sound the plays when i receive a new text, but i cannot find the option to do that on the phone. am i missing something or is there a hack or anything that will enable this?
i found a sort of fix for this. change your notification ringtone to whatever you want your text message ringtone to be. the only problem is it makes that same sound for every notification. most noticeably when you plug your phone ino the charger. thats the best ive figured out tho.
I have no problem adding custom ringtones, but cannot for some reason see how to use custom notification sounds? What am I doing wrong?

I believe all you have to do is add a folder called notifications and put your sounds there. That should solve it.

I am having an issue getting the stock email app to recognize a different notification sound. No matter which one I select it always uses the same one and I can't hear it at all. I can't change it from within the email app either. Anyone else notice this?
does not support .ogg files

This has been driving me Bonkers! I have tried to move over notification sounds from my Galaxy Nexus and the problem I have run into is that this phone will not play .ogg files (open source sound files from what I understand). Like you said, it just plays the stock sound. The notification sounds and ringtones on this phone are all .mp4. So.... we will have to convert the .ogg files to .mp4 files.
Personalize app > Sounds Tab > Notification Sound > Email (default sound is 'Hint')
Unable to access custom ring tones in notification folder using the following:
Personalize app > Sounds Tab > Notification Sound > Email
Never mind, got it. RESTARTED phone and new ring tones (notification sounds) showed up in the list.
