I have no problem adding custom ringtones, but cannot for some reason see how to use custom notification sounds? What am I doing wrong?

I believe all you have to do is add a folder called notifications and put your sounds there. That should solve it.

I am having an issue getting the stock email app to recognize a different notification sound. No matter which one I select it always uses the same one and I can't hear it at all. I can't change it from within the email app either. Anyone else notice this?
does not support .ogg files

This has been driving me Bonkers! I have tried to move over notification sounds from my Galaxy Nexus and the problem I have run into is that this phone will not play .ogg files (open source sound files from what I understand). Like you said, it just plays the stock sound. The notification sounds and ringtones on this phone are all .mp4. So.... we will have to convert the .ogg files to .mp4 files.
Personalize app > Sounds Tab > Notification Sound > Email (default sound is 'Hint')
Unable to access custom ring tones in notification folder using the following:
Personalize app > Sounds Tab > Notification Sound > Email
Never mind, got it. RESTARTED phone and new ring tones (notification sounds) showed up in the list.

I am using ARHD 3.1.1 and I was wondering if its possible to have a different ringtone for the message notification and the actual phone call ringtone?
Both files are on my phone, and I want to chose one for each app.
I can set main phone ringtones and contact ringtones, but for message notifications I cannot.

Hi,
I'm using GoSMSPRO,and it has the option to set the notification separately.
Worth a try.
It's free.

Open the Messages app, press the menu key & in settings/notifications you can set the sound used there.
Actually I seemed to have fixed it by putting the audio file in the notification folder on my SD card. It shows on as one of the audio files now. Because before it wasn't showing up.

When my phone turns on it plays the same notification tone that I use for everything else. Is there a way to change it?
Also, is it possible to separate tones for text, email, etc.... ?
Yes. Email, n txt should have an option n the app to change the sound. So do other programs you download frpm the market. The boot sound is in the boot up animation file, I believe.

yep you can just change them in the main menu - settings - sound
Looking at the title he wants to change the bootup sound. It can be done using a file manager and changing the poweron sound file in system/media/audio/poweron/PowerOn.ogg--Change this file to another. It needs to be named PowerOn in in ogg format.
I was wondering if anyone had this problem and knew how to fix it. On the Gingerbread MIUI (i.e., RG2x), I am unable to change the Notification and Conversation tone settings to silent. When I try to change it, it brings up a box asking me to choose either Music or Themes. Music doesn't allow me to choose silent. Choosing Themes just brings me to a blank screen under local resource. Any ideas?
Well just put the phone on silent mode.. But if you want individual control you should look under sound settings

Hello, I just picked an HTC One X on at&t and I can't figure out how to disable a ringtone. I still want to be able to hear notification sounds for sms. etc, but prefer not to have a ringtone sound. I realize I can use vibrate and silence mode, but that doesn't really solve the problem completely.
In CM7 on my old phone there was an option to set the ringtone to none in the list, but I don't see such option on the HOX.
Would I have to resort to importing in a blank.ogg ringtone and setting it to that or is there a better way to do it?
I searched through the forum here and saw someone mention an app that allows you to control ringtone volume separate from notification volume, but someone said it didn't work. I'll try to find the app and try that in the mean time.
My phone came with 2.20 firmware unfortunately. If it didn't, I would have rooted, unlocked, and flashed CM10 by now.
Any insight/help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Create a silent MP3 file, put in the ringtones folder, select it as your ringtone. Job done.

Is there a ringtone named silent on your phone? I've been through so many ROMS I can't say for sure if its in stock but it is in every ROM I can remember. It's usually the first ringtone.

I've had this problem before on Jellybean ROMs. After installing a new ROM I select a text tone and it plays when I get a text, but then after a random amount of time it starts to play the default notification sound when I get a text instead of my still selected text tone. When I go to see which tone is selected, without clicking in to choose my tone it says "Default ringtone (my_ringtone)". (my_ringtone=My current ringtone that is used when people call me, which plays normally.) Then when I click in, it shows my actual selected message tone selected. I'm running v1.300 Beanstalk. Has anyone had a problem like this before?
Apparently I can't post links until I have 10 posts. Pics of what I described are in the form of 2 png's attached to this post. (Very appropriately named if I say so myself)
Set it within the actual messaging app and through the email client you use. Should stick then.

Thanks, but these are the actual settings within the stock messaging app. In the regular sound settings there is no option for text tone. Only one for notification sound.
