XDA IIs unstable and untrust worthy. Please help

Hi all,
Would appreciate help and comments on the following issues I have with my new XDA IIs. Have always been a Palm user but some issues that I face looks more than just software issues.
1. Reception - When my phone comes out from an area without phone reception, it does not get back connection until someone calls or sms. So no outgoing calls possible until someone calls me or sms me. It's a major pain in the neck.
2. Bluetooth - does not work with my Motorolla headset which worked brlilliantly with Nokia and Sony Ericsson. I can hear the other party but they hear everything else loud except my voice soft.
3. Hangs a lot or rather, sluggish at times
4. Does not cut off calls even when end call button on the handsfree set is pressed.
Can anyone help???
In my opinion why don't you Upgrade your ROM, there's lots of articles in this forum how to upgrade your handset.. "Search" Follow the instructions and I assume your device will work properly once for all
Get the latest v1.31 ROM update from O2 service center
As far as the hangs go, I would clean out every unnecessary thing that's in the \Windows\Startup folder. This is stuff that is automatically started up on a soft reset. Stuff like the "aPerSave..." file links for example should be moved somewhere else for safe keeping. I have a PDA2K, so I don't know if you have the same files as I do, but I imagine they are pretty siilar. The Pocket PC OS is limited to 32 running processes and out of the box the PDA2K is running close to that number already. I imagine the IIs is configured similarly. Starting more than 32 processes can cause others to shut down prematurely, causing hangs. So, getting rid of the unnecessary processes leaves more free for apps later on as you are using the device.
I had many unexplained hangups on my PDA2K until I cleaned out that Startup folder. Once I did that, the hangs vanished.
Answer to Question 4:
Unfortunately the button is not supposed to hang up. (I think it puts it in Mute mode?)

WM2005 Takes to long to start ringing

WM 2005 1.6C using standard ringtones as found on the device takes ages to start rining.
This is so bad that I have missed several important calls. To test this I have phoned my cell from the landline and from the time I can hear the land line ring to the time the cell starts ringing takes 10 plus seconds.
This experiment was repeated with:
* the cell in the cradle
* the cell out of the cradle and ON
* the cell out of the cradle and OFF
And in every case the delay was too long.
Does any one know what could be the cause of this? Is it jus me or do other users have the same problem?
What is the location of our ringtone files? Default: \Windows\Rings or SD Card?
Have you tried using the default ringtone?
Do you have MS Voice Command installed?
-rhmartin-
I have tried using the default ringtone and yes I do have voice command installed.
Is there a speed issue with voice command?
Just put the ringtones in to windows rings folder. Than its going to work. i have installed voice comman too
I now have it down to 2 rings before it actually starts ringing. Achived this by moving files to the rings directory.
Weird though....
Are there any applications that is known for slowing down WM5 1.6c
Same problem on universal
Sorry if this isn't himalaya related but I found this problem on the O2 XDA Exec too, so I searched and found this thread. I missed several critical calls from potential employers (who all hide their numbers and didn't leave messages). Consequently I hard reset my xda and now have it running the bare minimum, just to receive calls on time! I had voice command on there before which was useful, but I'm not risking it again. I was using a standard ringtone before too.

voice command option to announce calls sort of slow down the call receive.
some today plug-ins (spb & bpp) displaying sd card memory status also slows down the device coming up from power off!
After performing a hard reset and not installing voice command or any other applications it seems to be behaving well.
i dont have voice command but still phone rings late, i have been searching for a registry tweak or some other way but no success yet...

O2 Atom = BAD BAD. How to fix?

I've bought the non HTC O2 Xda Atom PPC Phone days ago. This device has quite alot of annoying problems. I believe all these issues have to be rectified before we can comfortably use this device.
I. VERY FEW Main Storage Memory
As we know WM5 includes PS (Persistent Storage). All the RAM are now used as Program Memory. But the Main Storage Memory (Flash ROM) is only 22.1MB. This is petite and would not be sufficient for installations of programs that has to be installed on the main memory to work. The Storage memory is 43.9Mb, I wonder if there is anyway to MERGE the 43.9Mb and 22.1Mb which would make things alot easier.
II. EXTREMELY Slow!
The device's response is very slow. It takes seconds to load things or half a sec to response to tap sometimes. It is just SLOW. I thought it has something to do with WM5 but after upgrading my BlueAngel to WM5, it is SIGNIFICANTLY faster. I've already tried the Registry cache mod to speed it up a little but it is still slow. Even lags up when I type a sms.
III. CHOPPY Mp3 ringtone
It is just so choppy that it is unbearable. How to fix?
IV. Phone Answering Delays
V. Camera is EXTREMELY Slow! Quality of pictures acceptable as a 2MP device.
VI. In Car charger DOES NOT charge phone unless the phone is switched off. Why??
The cons are so critical that it outweighs all the pros of this device
I would rate it 5/10 personally. I am going back to my BA WM5 unless there are fixes. :!:
I have ALL those problems too. It sucks. The memory issue is really bad. I think the choppy ring is from the file being shuffled out of the rom to play. Sometimes I get an error message saying I have no memory when I try to take a pic (when I have used no memory ). If there was a way to get wm2003se onto it I would be willing to do it, but I doubt it is possible.
I HAD the same annoying problems. I wrote to O2. The reply I got is quite formal and useless. It seems most of people wrote to O2, they got the same template-style reply.
I understand how new thigns can have problems but I doubt if there will ever be fixes to the problems listed. We are just not supposed to go back to the default ringer tone because the Mp3 ringtone is so choppy. The Mp3 ringtone Works perfectly on my WM5 Blueangel.
The 22.11MB(16.13 Actual) storage memory just WON'T work. Even if I install everything on the storage cards, there would still be files needed to be written on \windows\ directory, the size of the main storage is just way too small.
The overall speed is slow and unbearable.
I think I am going to sell the device in a few days... Spent too much time trying to fix a $900 phone. Has anyone tried the bundled headset? The pieces are SO BIG that I doubt anyone with the largest earholes can put them on... Just Bad O2...
yesterday I went to Broadway and I saw that there is guy buying this O2 crappy machines.....and I think he will have the same feeling with yours....
But I cannot do anything at that moment....
The quality is Below standard expectations. I would not recommend this device to anyone. Do you know where I can sell it off in Hong Kong at a good price?
i think sell it in yahoo.com.hk is the best place....
I was going to buy the exec as well later in the year. I do not know any more. Has anyone bought it to comment?
I only have wm5 from the atom, I would like to know just how much of the problem is wm5 and how much is the hardware. O2 have really tarnished the brand name xda. I was dumb enough to buy just based on previous experience with other xda's.
Try some twaeking.. it helps
I have the Atom and I have been tweaking it a little.. the speed performance has improved.. now maybe up to about 85% - 90% of my O2 Mini.. so, it may not be as bad, if you tried some of these tweaks..

Those peeps who said problems with MP3 ringtones, i had the same problem with MP3 but if i convert that MP3 to WMA it plays perfectly as a ringtone, i believe that this is because WAV,MID & WMA play natively but the MP3 ringtone goes through a WM10 player.
Hehe..
what goes around comes around..

More Atom Problems
[NB: duplicate post from other Atom thread - suggest an Atom specific area?]
Apart from the poor response time, I also find the standard alarm function does not work properly. A quick test with the alarm set for 10 minutes ahead works well, but 6am the next morning does not sound at all, until you later go into the alarm section to find out why, and then it goes off. Any ideas anyone?
Also, my Atom turns itself on accasionally for no reason. No incoming call or SMS, no alarm set, no USB or bluetooth connection, etc. It just turns on and sits there. Any ideas anyone?
Also - another poster advised removing items from start-up. How do you do this? Does it require a registry edit?
thanks,
depressed_atom_user
my friend from O2 Said, that the old version is very slow
and the there is the newer version from o2, but is not official lunch yet
is have batter memory architecture
Yeah.. I get the exact same alarm problem..
Ended up late to work 'cause of this.
I just sent in my Atom to the service centre (SG).. hope to receive it by tomorrow evening. Really eager to check out the improvements.

No lag here - I tried WMP, CorePlayer and even the HTC stock player.
I tried it while browsing in Opera, File explorer and other applications.
I'm on 1.90.401.1 WWE
No mp3 lag here....
Yup!
Experienced this with both the Diamond and the Touch Pro while using CorePlayer and Wmplayer for mp3 playback...
It's not bad enough to be annoying tho!
Occurs very intermittenly!
many users noticed that it occurs every 5 minutes EXACTLY!!! very strange... pls keep posted your experiences..
I use the HTC today player during long times while jogging and I can confirm I havent had music lag....
What you talk about seems a background process/thread/service that execute some heavy but short task each 5 minutes. Maybe a cpu monitor can help you....
I had a lag on pocket tunes and now have switched to pocket player and now no lag.
I had no lag with the standard windows media player (just hate it)
By the way, I had a Omnia for a short time and that had terrible lag but great quality when it played !!
Ciao, D.
I have a lag problem on my TP.
I'll check if the problem is repetitive (every 5min you said? strange!) and let you know.
I've observed that if I'm listening CorePlayer Mp3 (128-256 doesn't matter) then any action required more time to be acomplished - generally TP performance are below level and starting to be annoing. But this is normal situation I suppose because mp3 decompression required processing time. The same when I'm starting additional application, sometimes music has a one sec lag. The same when I'm estabilishig connection for 3G or Edge.
Regards
B.
the lag is present without obvious performance load except MP3 playing which is in normal, doesnt matter what player you are using, advance task manager doesnt show any process which could make this laggy situation everything looks just fine and then after 5minutes skip and no special processor load at all...maybe you could provide any suggestion which process tracker could I use??? it should be process or just service...
I've had some annoying lafg on mp3 playback both with Mortplayer, TF3D player and coreplayer.
I've nevertheless noticed that the lag tends (often) to disapear when you turn on the TP and then back off (I repeat, most of the time, not 100% of the time).

Yeap, the small break issue is present on TP too, unfortunately. The break is about <=1/2sec. It happen even if I'm not using any application.
Using Lyrics Magic.
Same problem here with my TP, regardless which player i use. A small break every 4-5 minutes.
rom?
what roms are tp users using that are experiancing this problem? i have the same issue using the shipped rom on my htc fuze. im getting ready to flah a new rom, so im praying that somehow att bloatware is the culprit although unlikely.
Stock Sprint ROM here, sorry.
Some quick testing seems to indicate that Kinoma (Free)Play greatly reduces the incidence and severity of the glitches, can anyone else confirm?
From my experience it seems to happen when my reception isn't too great and the phone switches between HSDPA > E > G. Not only music but sometimes the entire OS starts to lag when it switches between the different signals.
H (3G) <---> E causes music to stop !
As behrouz sated, I also noticed the problem in low signal areas exactly when the phone switches from H (3G) <---> E and viceversa. Could it be a service that starts or turns off when this switch occurs? Anyways, I tried forcing WCDMA as the only network type under Band tab in Phone settings but then when Im in low signal areas I get no connection at all. Does someone knows a workarround? Any ideas?
glitch in airplane mode
I have the stock Sprint ROM and get a glitch (don't know how often) using TF3d player even on airplane mode.
i get huge lag but thats when im using bluetooth stereo

Sound problem, polaris

Is anyone else experiencing sound problems with android on Polaris (touch cruise)? The sound dissapears after random X minutes/hours.
I have tried a dozens of nands and android packages all with the same results - the sound stops working after a while. No ringtone, no other sound at all. If I call someone they can't hear me.
I would really really appreciate if someone could give me a solution to this problem.
In the beginning a did something to get SPL-2.20.OliNex (CPLD-2)
Then I have tried installing different typpes of ROM's (guess this is the nands) and also tried different combinations with andoid releases. I even found a great thread in this forum where working nands and andoid releases where listed...GREAT I was thinking.....finally! But again, the same thing....no sound after a while :-(
sound works but wifi
Hi,
are you talking about sound issue with telephony/voip? I installed latest release on my htc polaris touch cruise (100 series) and first calls sound is working so far. I am using this one:
* l1q1d - [NAND] - My latest nbh - Incubus26Jc's Super FroYo 2.2 [Deodexed] [RLS10] [7/10/10] Work All
via haret.exe from "Working android setups" thread.
Only issue is wifi, for what i've tested by now, so i need to investigate further.
Hi,
Thanks for your answer. I'm not running any voip, telephony thou. All sound is stopping. Ringsignal, other sounds and,telephone-voice and also my microphone.
I've search the forum for days now and no one seems to have the same issue as me.
I guess there is no soultion. :-(
Hi,
i had no problems with nand and phone sound and the mentioned image:
hXXp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=688291
Perhaps you need an upgrade of your devices firmware.
Sound with voip still stucks for me but IMO this is related to an issue with performance:
hXXp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742639
Hi today I tried with this configuration and also have sound issues with pol100. They come out when playing with sipdroid. No sound in sipdroid tested with sipgate.de (german provider).
Btw. the first call with gsm when phone is freshly rebooted has sound.
sys/data on nand:
- polaimg-panel3-320-froyo-26-07-10-tweaked-to-panel1
- zImage-26-07-10
- RLS12
- radio 1.65.38.14
No mic/speaker sound :-(
When sipdroid call is dropped and gsm phone is called the gsm phone application crashes.
Here's related thread to problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=729472
Sound playback issue: random choppy audio
I have tested it intensively and all I have to say is that sometimes the music playback is choppy (it sounds like distorted and echoed badly). I noticed that it's only the "multimedia playback", not the standard sound stream (the Phone volume is involved in this one).
When this happens, you should stop the music/sound playback, wait for some seconds and resume. If you waited enough, it will play smooth after this.
I have observed this behavior in the Music player and in game emulators. When it happens in emulators, it's difficult to "fix" it, since they don't have a button to just stop the audio streaming. I have to close the emulator and try again. Luckily it is fixed after some tries.
I hope an expert developer (say DZO) could fix this.
Merged topic, the same question and / or problem
Hi, I tried some Android ROMs in my HTC Cruise - Polaris (Pola100) and still the same problem. No sound - when playing music, when incoming call ring, when speaking, other side cannot hear anything, I cannot hear other side etc. Only one exception i noticed is with "Incubus26Jc's Super FroYo 2.2.1 [Deodexed] [RLS16] [10/2/10] All Languages", after reboot and Launcher Pro used, little while sound works, but after few seconds - silence again
Did anybody solved this problem, or have any idea?
Thanks for Your replies.
PS: Camera doesn't work too, even if everybody is saying, that with "this one" ROM it works. But this is no problem for me, I don't need camera necessarily.
