All,
Just wanted to add my thanks to all the talented people who roam these forums ! I've benefited greatly from your work. Particular thanks to faria who provided me with working ROMs when I was beginning to wonder if I should just go buy another phone. Also to funman who guided me through building my own Roms when I thought that was beyond my skills.
I'm heading over to the Hermes forums now. A friend gave up on figuring his out and so he sold it to me for $200 (he didn't know about xda-developers!). I couldn't pass that up! I hope the guys over there are as nice !
Best wishes to you all!

Lucky Dog!! Bring back the ggod stuff you find over there!
You're in good company over there...
A few of us are in the Hermes FORUM, myself and Jose included.
Jump in, the water's fine!
See you there
Got myself a hermes today. Insurance company typo so got a vario 2 instead of 1 .
Just flashed olipro hard spl followed by pro black 3. Happy days
Helpful bunch too
Great to hear!
I've gotten off to a terrific start thanks to the Hermes forums. Installed Custel 2.5 WM6 and I'm back to almost the same setup that I had on my Wizard. I was very happy to find most everything transfered over (PocketBreeze, iLauncher, PocketWeather, phonealarm, rlToday, IM+, muns keyboard skin, and the JPL big button phone dialer !! About the only thing missing is BatteryStatus. The FAQ says there's no overclocking software for the Hermes?
And the speed using 3G! WOW!!! Absolutely worth it !!
To everyone that has a hermes,
There are already offical WM6 versions out.. maybe you should test some first before you brick your phone... i dont mean to sound the way it does but i'm still hoping t-mobile or at&t are gonna release an offical Wm6 for my MDA.. so i do haev to say good luck to everyone with there new hermes

I did. The first thing I did upon receiving the phone was load the official Cingular WM6 rom on it. Given that there was a WM6 for the hermes, I thought that maybe I'd just stick with that version.
However, I ran into some small annoyances (activesync problems) and it was missing some software apps that I gotten used to having (Task Manager as an example), so that's when I decided to try one of the "unofficial" roms. I did my homework and read through the load process and basically followed the instructions. Custel focuses on making Cingular compatible roms, so it was a good fit for my needs.
I guess I was very cautious about installing custom roms when I first got my wizard (prior to my hermes). But after all the annoyances with it (daily soft-resets, monthly hard-resets, ongoing network problems, etc., etc.), if I hadn't installed one, I would have given up on the phone. Another example of that: I got my hermes because a friend got fed up with it and got a Treo instead. From installing custom roms, I got into customizing them myself using faria's kitchen apps.
It's not for everyone and I understand that, but I've greatly benefited from the efforts of the guys who work so hard to build these custom roms !
Hi Tornadians how u doing,
by now we have found multiple Rom of WM6 by our Expert Users
Lets Rate Which one is bug free and very very stable.
let us know your Experience
Dude, it's Microsoft Windows. Any version is neither stable nor bug free!!!
i m either Apple Certified Technician and use to work on Mac Platform but unfortunately bought Tornado i am happy with tornado but not with Windows and i m keep updating it. so i can solve it.
i put my problem in other thread "WM6 SCREEN GOES OFF IN 5 SEC"
please senior member solve this issue
WM6 For Tornado - HTC Edition
Why don't you start a Poll !
My vote goes to NiTroGen's greek ROM...
The best out there is:
WM6 English 5.2.1616.18120 by NiTroGen.
It has the new build on and interesting features from andot's ROM.
Andot's ROM is very unstable.
Everybody seems to have their own opinion. No consensus yet!
My vote goes to HTC Edition.
Been using it for weeks (Ver. 1, did most of the tweaks manually that are in the 2nd ed.) and it's been very stable and I don't think I've found any bugs or glitches.
Phil's beta would come 2nd on my list, however it's way behind HTC Edition by now.
anyone wants to create a poll for this? so no one is gonna keep asking which rom is more stable or better?
to all the cookers, makerz or editorz, all of you have done a great job !
Poll would be pointless since it needed redoing everytime a rom get's updated.
But what'd be nice is a sticky with a comparison chart, moderated by a forums moderator. So the creators could just send the essential info regarding their latest release so the mod can update the chart.
WM6 ROM cooking is not a competition. There is no "best" ROM atm and there will never be. Each ROM has its own characteristics and suits to different people and needs!
IMHO, there should be a cooperation of all cookers (or non-cookers), so we'll finally have the best WM6 ROM available for our phone; the WM6 for Tornado XDA-developers Edition.
So, how about closing this thread and starting a new one with hints/instructions on adding new features to our ROMs, fixing existing bugs , customizing and cooking our own ROMs? How about a Pimp My WM6 ROM discussion?

i agree with your point mate!
Well, at least now what we can do is to improve each other's ROM, since all of us are from different time zone
@Nitro just wanted to say that i never used the word "best" lol, i used better! i agree with you though, about you cookers working together to create perfect rom!
Well how about an informative post for the ROMS.
Maybe ROM listing then all bugs and what works what doesnt so then the cookers can take parts of each others roms tto make the perfect ROM ?
Just an idea

Agreed, I am running this one and am very pleased. Been 3 weeks now.
Now I've just flashed EA's ROM (same build as NiTroGen's one) .
It has a lot of new options in Settings (. Just the Start Menu options (from NiTroGen and andot's ROMs ) is missing.
It has 19.64MB free storage space after the first reboot. But it does not have bundled some useful apps such as: LowLight, WM5torage..
Ah, and EA's one doesn't have Wireless Manager in the QuickList . I personally like Wireless Manager.

So for people currently running Andots rom would you say its worth the swith over to this rom ?
What is noticable different ?
Does the Media playser still work perfect like andots ?

After Reading your message, I think I like you very much, can you do me favor and provide me with winning Lottery numbers for coming Saturday and please make sure I win at least 10million EU and above. thanks
furthermore dont take my message to personal, it is getting to bored here in Universal forum. cheers mate
i would have asked the same as Prawns -- I am afraid Uni is for Hobbyists only
Since the Uni never had an HTC-build of WM6, ALL ROMs are cooked from versions for other devices.
There are NO definitive drivers that are guaranteed to work 100% correctly 100% of the time, because HTC never released them.
So - if you want total stability, and total reliability, go find a totally vanilla WM5 ROM - that'll give you that (but none of the 'extras').
If the only thing you really want from WM6.1 is the Office 2007-compatible Office Mobile stuff, then either build a WM5 ROM with that in-place, or look around - I'm pretty sure some of the WM5 cooked ROMs have that in them.
If you want all the latest & greatest, bells & whistles, then you've got to put up with the facts that:
a) There may be problems - these are being cooked by a single developer working pretty much in the dark, NOT by a development team.
b) The ROM likely won't have exactly the feature-set you want to see -- if you want that, either approach a cooker directly with an offer to pay him/her for it, or build it yourself (which is what I'm doing). Yes - it's a painful, time-consuming process, but at least you'll learn something - I sure am!
Just my opinion.....

is it possible for one of you guyz to have all the availeble roms for the wizard from wm5 to wm6 and also wm6.1,and also all availible apps for the wizard cos really guys all these roms and software is all over the place ,it takes me more time searching for wot im looking for and eventualy just downloading woteva i get 1st,,,,,so for a newbe this place would scare you ,,,plz admin dudes have a look into that,,,, OH AND ALSO RELEASE DATES OF ROMS WILL HELP ALOT IN DECIDING ON WICH ROM A PERSON WANTS
OK MEN
This will gonna sound worst but its not...
Have you ever heard about search...?
Have you ever read the rules and site policies?
Someone told me one day... its a forum rule!... search and read the comunitie is for that to help find, why? the forum its so huge... but interesant to read more and more and became mnot and idiot lazy asking for and having easily... it cost me months to revives my wizard from a bad upgrade.... but i know not all but i know more everyday...
Making a huge thread with wm5 to 6.1 roms its just insane... or do you wanna do it... the 6.1 research its been taking a lot of new features so there is a stickie with roms 6.1 newers so we can manage just roms not apps inside of them... why? cause the people said its the best MY GOD other said F#CKS UP MEN!!! etc etc but its your own choice to go the links place to thread of developers ROM and see by yourself the apps included...
I can tell you is a hardly that you said is whortless cause wm5 is out of time with wm6.1 so upgrade to and original more efective isnt it? jajaja.
Just think about it a sec.
Guys,
I've always had HTC phones, since the original XDA - back in those days there were perhaps only 3/4 cooked roms available and so the choice was fairly simple.
I'm looking to flash my Kaiser with a rom that's speedy, feature packed and has something particularly snazzy about it!! I've had a look at Roms available...and there's about 40!!!!!
What I'm looking for is an unbiased view from someone that has tried a number of roms and can recommend a rom that's a significant improvement over the standard Vodafone WM6.1 rom!
Please, who'll be my saviour!!!
Cheers, Ash
I am in the same boat with you!
I am currently using and liking HyperDragon III Jade OS 5.2.19974 Build 19974.1.2.8 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397121)
I was stuck on PDACorner's series for awhile, as well as NATF, but it seems that the newer releases from them are unstable on my phone, in my location.
There is always something that will shine in this ROM and will not exist in that ROM. (Unless you cook up one for yourself - I haven't ventured there yet)
Well I'm gonna go flash today's ROM Your saviour I am not, just adding my $0.02.
ok....here's my non-biased opinion...
but but before that i'd like to tell u that this thread might be closed by the end of my post here...since a mod will tell u that every person has his/her own taste in regards to what rom is best...
now my opinion....
u have to know that we are living in the kaiser manilla craze right now....if u dont know manilla is a new today screen interface which is pretty much eye candy only in my opinion....
if you want a good wm6.1 rom (without manilla)...u can try the new garmin DK6 rom....but since that rom is still new and might have sum bugs...i suggest u search for garmin DK3 series which comes in 1-naked 2-light 3-full versions...just to get a feel of what his roms are about...
garmin's roms are one of (if not) the best wm6.1 roms for kaiser and are 99.5% bug free...
thats my 2 cents
note: im sure u know this already but please dont forget to either CID unlock or flash hard-spl before flashing these roms!!!

Thanks guys for your feedback so far - this thread definitely shouldn't be closed, a forum is for discussion about personal views, thats what we're doing!
I'll have a check of the Garmin roms then, sounds interesting - let me know how you guys get on flashing (LOL) - anyone else?
Garmins new DK6 is out and is very fast u must try it, his roms are simply great as are many chefs but his seam to be the smoothest
Hey there,
originally i was running T-mobiles wm6.0.
From there i have moved straight to:
[3 November 08] HyperDragon Jade OS 5.2.19974 Build 19974.1.2.8
which, in my oppinion, is a lot smoother and adds a lot more usability to the phone (E.g, i never had voice command on 6.0, Manilla didnt work as it should, skipping to a certain letter in your contacts list is now easier due to an iphone-esque side menu etc.)
Ok, so manilla is eye candy, may negate some of the tweaks and updates done for speed increase, but at the end of the day, over a standard ROM, its still faster.
The only issue(s) i can say i have had is that the touch screen seems a lot less responsive, and the speed gains were only really noticable when i used Kaisertweak and changed all the caches to as large as they would go, but it is still a very good and stable build IMO. Oh, and manilla doesnt support landscape view (although all other normal elements such as texting, contacts etc do)
I'm probably going to update within the next few days, there is a manilla update in the latest one (oooo) but that can wait a little bit i guess.
just my £0.02
i get kind of nervous with cooked roms... had a few bad experiences where i'd be hard=resetting and rebuilding 2 or 3 times in a day.
i put in the latest WM6.1 ROM posted here... had a few issues that needed to be resolved, but otherwise am very happy with it.
