Hi guys before I start, I have read numerous posts and tried to do as much reading before writing this, but my findings are not conclusive.
I have just got a new M600, so it’s locked to Orange and has no rom alterations done.
I want to upgrade my rom as I don’t like the Orange stuff in there anyway and I was very happy with a Qtek rom on my M500.
1 Do I need to sim unlock the phone, to rom upgrade?
2 Can I just upgrade using the files as in post http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=49298
3 There’s talk of the CID being unlocked, does this need to be done, before upgrade.
4 There is no sure way of backing up existing rom?.
5 Once upgraded, is the phone still sim locked.
Basically I don’t want a brick sitting on my desktop.
Regards
Up!
I too want to update my Orange France SPV M600 freshly bought this week but i don't know if i need to CID unlock the phone before upgrading with a Qtek rom.
And another n00b question: is there a list somewhere with the new features of the roms ?
Thanks in advance ^^
who can hep me
I too want to update my Orange France SPV M600 but my Orange France SPV M600 is now in 3 line color and numberis: IPL 2.10.0001 and SPL 2.G3
Reading the XDA-Wiki, you can see that a CID unlock is required for doing anything with ROMS. As a result, if you have a G3 phone, which you need to check, then follow the instructions here
If you have a G4 prohpet, then unfortunatley you cannot CID unlock the phone, thus no ROMS.
SIM unlock isnt required for ROM upgrades, but the CID criteria must be met.
Once again, if you had read the wiki, you would know that ROM backup is available here
Hope this helps,
I am getting an Orange branded Kaiser next week and will want to revert it to the official HTC Rom, I have never done anything like this so am a bit green. I have downloaded the file RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.5_radio_sign_22.45.88.07_1.27.12.11_Ship.rar
Can any one tell me if this is the official English version of the HTC rom and also is all I have to is follow the idiots guide in the other thread on this forum.
I'd recommend you ask orange for the sim unlock code before attempting this.
Unless you're happy to flash your phone and be unable to use *any* (including oranges) sim in it.

is it the same for T-Mobile? Had a HTC TYTN and now a T-Mobile Vario III and prefer to have the HTC rom because I cannot get the Windos live to auto sync / as messages arrive post a SR ever

Your fine to upgrade as long as you don't touch the radio portion of the Rom.
HardSPL your phone, then decompile the HTC rom and create a new rom using only the OS portion. then install using Pofs custome RUU installer.
Cheers
I held back on changing my Orange UK ROM for the same sim-lock reasons. However I simply used HardSPL first & then flashed my phone with the Sleuth ROM as it doesn't touch the radio & therefore bypasses the sim-lock issue.
Am now very happy and de-oranged.

Apologies in advances for the noobness of this question. I have an Orange Tytn II and would like to use it on O2. I've been using the phone for calls, so it's unlocked. I've got Internet settings for the O2 Stellar from O2 and entered them but it still won't connect making it rather useless to me.
From reading it seems to by because the radio is locked to Orange? CID locked? is that right?
I've successfully run the HardSPL, which I understand will now enable me to install other ROMs. What I'm not clear on is if I do this if I will permanently SIMlock the Orange phone or if the HardSPL gets round this problem and I'll be safe to put on another ROM and so letting me get online and 'deOrangig the phone'.
I've read that I can put on a ROM as long as it doens't touch the radio. But does this releveant only if you want to stay on Orange? Will it let you use another network SIM? And which ROM would that be anyway.
Bit confused as you can see. Any help appreciated.
Hi,

The basic is that all shipped ROMs are one flashable NBH file. To manage that file you need two apps. One called NBHExtract to extract the content of NBH file into NB files (search here for it) and htcrt to pack the NB files you need into a NBH. If you need to flash only the OS, then take the 03_OS.NB and pack with htcrt. The use Kaiser CustomRUU to flash the OS only.
Hope that helps you.
Cheers.
Hi, I have downloaded the dutty rom and run the NBHExtract program and its extracted 2 files, now I have used the htcrt and that has created a NB file which I understand that I have to now use the Custom RUU file. Will this just flash the OS file and keep the radio etc? the reason I ask if that I have the Orange UK TYTN 2 and I know that if mess with the Radio file then it will SIM Lock the device. Unless someone else can tell me something else. Does what I have done sound right and will it now work on my TYTN2 without it being unlocked?
I have flashed my UK Orange TyTNII,
Firstly and most importantly i flashed HardSPL which you can find in one of the sticky's, connect your phone and run the .exe file and follow the instructions to install it.
Once i had done that i downloaded the HTC Original Rom, using Winrar i took the NBH file out of the HTC_Original_ROM.exe and placed it in a file. Then using NBHExtract i decompiled it into it's sections (Splash Screen, OS, Radio, SPL, IPL) then i repackaged just the OS.nb back into an NBH file and flashed that to my phone.
Using this method i only altered the OS and I have HardSPL installed for protection against bad flashes.
I did not have any problem with the Phone asking for a SIM unlock code
Hope that helps
Cheers

HI,
I am thinking of getting a TyTNII on Orange UK, but because I will be travelling abroad, I want to be able to use local sim cards.
I understand that Orange phones are locked down, what would I have to do to make it 'sim free'?
Do I need to flash the rom as described above?
Also, why is it not good idea to flash the original HTC ROM? The 'sim free' TyTNII can take any sim, whats changed in Orange models?
Thanks in advance for you help.
T-mobile is the same
I would like to get the HTC rom on my Vario III not for simlock just because most of the time the rom is just more stabel how do i do this already flashed my old vario once from wm5 to wm6 but its bin a long time since i have bin here anny help?

On the Orange TyTnIIs there are two types of locks:
a) CID Lock
b) SIM Lock
The CID lock stops you from loading a replacement ROM on the device.
The SIM lock stops you from using a non-Orange SIM.
The free HardSPL software handles the CID lock issue, allowing the ROM to be replaced.
The SIM lock issue cannot currently be fixed with a free solution. There are people on the forum who can SIM unlock it for you for about 20 quid. This will allow you to use any network's SIM in the device, but in general, has little to do with the ROM upgrade issue (though see next caveat).
If you simply run HardSPL to deal with the CID lock, you can now install a new ROM. However, if you blindly install a ROM that contains a different radio rom to orange's radio rom, then the device will behave as if any SIM, including an Orange SIM, is invalid. To get around this you have two options:
a) Only install a ROM which has no radio rom in it, but only changes the Operating System rom, or
b) pay someone 20 quid so that the phone is SIM unlocked, so that when you run HardSPL and install arbitrary ROMs you have no risk of the above problem occurring.
I went with a), and simply ran HardSPL then installed Sleuth's ROM since it doesn't have a radio rom in it. This worked fine; it replaced all Orange's crappy customisations and works.
Solution a) is not what you are after though. You basically want to use a non-Orange SIM, which means you have to SIM unlock it. This doesn't require the use of any software like HardSPL or any ROM upgrades, but *does* require a 20 quid payment to some bloke (via the horrible paypal system, and apparently he wants a copy of your passport/ID for his safety, which ruled this out for me - I'm happy to pay 20 quid, but certainly not happy to be sending my passport details to men in the shadows). Here's his URL - apparently it takes minutes and is done online: www.imei-check.co.uk/kaiser-unlock.php
Hope that helps.
Thanks alot divert, that explains it well.
I take it that the same is true about T-mobile version as well?
I have bought my HTC TyTN II from Orange Netherlands and the ROM language is dutch... therefore I'm struggling to learn as much as possible from this forum how to change the ROM with a WWE one.
This thread is more closely to my situation and I dared to intervene...
So far I understood that first I have to install HardSPL to be able to change the dutch ROM. This is clear to me. Then I have to choose a ROM version (without Radio in it to avoid locking the SIM). Can you help me in this matter to suggest me a stable english ROM? (also the download link if is possible ).
Then I have to install this ROM. Considering that I never did this before I am a little bit afraid not to permanently damage the phone (is it possible?). Some things are not clear to me.
Do I have to dump my dutch ROM before I install the new one or not?
Is it possible to back up the dutch ROM and in case something goes wrong to restore it?
Is not knowing the dutch language a problem during the installation?
What is the simple and safest way to install the new ROM .. can you please have the patience to guide me step by step in this matter? I would really appreciate this...
Thank you!
Later edit: I can PayPal...

I've no idea roks, sorry. I didn't answer your question for a while as I thought someone who knew might. Perhaps they will. Maybe you need to start a new thread for the TMobile question, as this thread will be read primarily by those on Orange UK I'd guess.

As I said, I installed Sleuth's ROM, since that does not affect the radio. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=343867 - he's put a download link there.
Someone else said that Dutty's Rom also does not affect the radio. Here's the thread for that one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=341879 - I have not tried it though, so I can't confirm. If an Orange UK user does try it, please post your results in this thread so that other people can be reassured it works.
Another user, kyphur, is keeping a nice list of current Kaiser ROMs here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=343198 but it's not clear from that thread which ROMs don't affect the radio. I had to go and read the individual ROM threads to find out. I repeat, Sleuth's ROM does not affect the radio, and someone else tells me that Dutty's Rom doesn't either.

I did not back mine up, because I wasn't sure how to restore it, so I just took a risk (silly, really, but fortunately it all worked). Someone did put instructions on how to do all this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337066 but I was too lazy to do it.

I don't know anything about the Dutch Orange phones. I only know about the UK Orange phones from what I have read on the forum and from my own experiences. I can't confirm that Dutch Orange devices have the same SIM lock issue as UK Orange phones. Even if they don't, though, I'm reasonably sure the same upgrade process will be fine for you, as it only upgrades the Operating System (OS) ROM.
When I did the upgrade, all the instructions were in english and on the PC, not the phone. You don't need to read anything on the phone itself, so I would say no, the fact that the phone language is Dutch should not be an issue. I assume the hardware is the same (though perhaps you have a different keyboard layout, and I don't know enough about the OS to know if this is an issue). If someone else knows better, please say.

All I can tell you is what I did - remember this is for Orange UK TyTnII:
ORANGE UK TyTnII Rom Upgrade Steps:
First, try to read the Stickies at the top of this forum. Even if it doesn't make a lot of sense to you, there might be something important to you there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=378
Download Kaiser HardSPL and follow the instructions.
Here is the thread with the download link and instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679
Download a ROM that only affects the OS. I used Sleuth's.
Here is the thread with the download link and instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=343867
That's it. It's actually pretty simple despite sounding very scary. This is thanks to the clever people on this forum making these tools for us (thanks guys)

This thread is about changing the TyTnII Orange UK Rom, not SIM unlocking it. Nevertheless, your question was answered as part of post #7, which you should probably read.
In summary, there is currently no free solution to SIM unlock your Orange UK TyTnII. You can pay someone GBP 20 to do it for you: www.imei-check.co.uk/kaiser-unlock.php
Hi All,
I need an Italian Official VOX ROM or instruction how-to flash unsigned ROM.
Please note that I have flashed a wrong ROM and Activesync does not work, I can access only though bootloader.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks
Here is something you could try : http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_SDCardFlashing
Try naming the VOXIMG.nbh instead of HERMIMG.nbh.
but I really don't know if this can work. most likely not in fact since I haven't seen it described for the vox on these forums..
Sorry I have really no experience in bricked devices. Well I bricked mine several times but usb connection still worked through bootloader, so I could start ruu updater when in bootloader mode and it worked fine.
I have bricked my Vox making custom roms, but have found that even though i can get into the bootloader and run up the RUU updater, every time i go to flash a rom i get errors saying wrong VendorID etc... this is because the rom i flashed had different ID's to the original HTC ROMS. Maybe you are signing them different to me?
Please help!
Hi Doctor,
it does not work with VOX.

i`ve made the same mistake (flashed a ROM cooked by me) ... but prior to flash my phone i was lucky enough to use USPL 1.16 to permanently flash my SPL to 1.16 (i`ve used both archives Vox USPL-CID BYPASS.zip and Vox-USPL-RUU.zip) instead of 1.27 (original, vendor locked).
On the XDA ftp is a italian ROM if i`m not mistaking, did you try it ?
try this ... i`m not sure it will work.
Make sure you have disabled the USB connection in ActiveSync:
File --> Connection settings --> uncheck "allow USB connections"
1. get into booloader mode
2. connect with mtty
3. write password BsaD5SeoA
4. try to run the USPL 1.16 now ... (i`m just guessing)
if it doens`t work reset the phone and repeat step 1. and 2. and continue with:
3. write password BsaD5SeoA after that ruurun 0
4. try to run the USPL 1.16 now ... (i`m just guessing)
alternatively instead of USPL you can try to run the italian rom from the ftp.
i`ve managed to save my phone doing steps 1, 2, and 3 (not sure which one worked) from above and then flashed with ARA ROM ... but keep in mind my SPL was 1.16.
hope this helps
I'm italian could I help you...
Hi i'm italian and i'm totally nwe on those things...eheheh i haven't yet underrstand what those cooked roms are..but I have an italian s710 with the original rom...with some software on it..If i could help.... let me know..maybe send me a PM or a mail through the forum mail system..
ciao ciao fammi sapere
bye bye just let'me know
with TheBo`s help the problem is almost solved :d
My intention was just to ask if a backup of my original HTC VOX (unbranded) could help...sorry...next time I will not do the same mistake.
SPL
Hi,
unfortunately this does not help because my VOX is CID locked “g_cKeyCardSecurityLevel = FF” and Activesync does not work, for this reason I’m not able to flash any unsigned rom.
My SPL is 1.27.
I have tried to flash 1.16 but the procedure does not work.
It is a way to CID unlock my VOX from bootloader?
Can anyone cook a signed Italian ROM?
Thanks.
maybe TheBo`s ROM will work for you

If you would to help us you can try to cook a signed rom from the dump in ftp://xda:[email protected]/Vox/ (file name: s710 rom 1.15.408.2 (italian + uk eng + us eng).rar) or give to us instructions how to do it.
Thanks for your help.
Regards.
i`ll try to help you ... i`ll be back in couple of hours with results
Thanks for your help!
check you pm!
did it work?
i tried the method posted a while back with no positive results .... yet
I was just wondering, i looked at the bootloader and it says Vox SPL 1.15 so this is the version i am using and it doesnt let me flash another vendor id rom...
VOX Briched.
Nop,
it does not work. I have sent my device to HTC...
Can you tell me how it works out?? I am hesitant to send mine to HTC (i had to import this phone) which will mean i have to pay heaps for shipping... and even then i dont expect them to replace it because the last rom i flashed had a different splash screen (silly me ) this will be obvious to them and therefore wont replace mine because i tampered with the rom.
Hi to all. Firstly i want to say that i am new to wm so have almost completly no idea how to flash my phone, recently i have bought htc s710. so here my questions:
1. is there any very detail instruction step by step what to do in order to flash my htc s710. in past i have spent a lot of time flashing and moding motorola phones and about motorola there are a lot detailed flashing guides. About flashing htc i found few instruction, but they differ to each other, and are written in such a misunderstooding way, so for me is no way to understand what to do.
2. my htc s710 have vodafone animation during power off and off, plus vodafone specific bakground which is very annoying.
so 2.1 if i flash with other firmware will be there no animation.
2.2 my pnone is unlocked, it can be used with all operators, so if flash it with firmware will it lock to vodafone operator again
thanks for answers in advance
1). Yes, there is a Wiki available to help flashing your Vox. However if you're comfortable flashing a Motorola handset, you'll slide right in easy with cooking and flashing new ROM's. http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=vox_flashing
^ The ROM you download will have an .NBH file along with the FLASH or ROMUpdateUtility (RUU) that will allow it to flash to the phone. You might need to flash USPL to the handset first, which will allow you to write an unsigned or invalid VendorID'd ROM.
2). This just means your handset is Vodafone branded, flashing a new ROM should not lock or re-lock your handset provided it was not "patch" unlocked prior.
as i understand ROM is the firmware i have to flash, it seem quite easy to do.
but do i really need to dump the ROM and cook the rom?
what is mean to dump the rom and cook the rom?
Dumping the ROM is reading your current handset ROM and saving it externally, ie; your computer.
Cooking a ROM is, basically, editing a base ROM to include or exclude certain files, packages and features. It allows you to completely customize it.
If you don't need your old ROM, you don't need to dump it. And you don't need to cook either, only if you want to customize the ROM. Look on the xda ftp. The ROMs in the shipped folder are all original ROMs from HTC or Dopod or so. The HTC ROMs are unbranded. Be aware, that all you previous files and customizations will be lost during the flash process, but you can read that in the Wiki! Good luck
what is login and password for ftp, it ask me connection.
When you click on the link, you shouldn't need a password, otherwise the user name is xda and the password is xda !
recently I'm sending RUU_Vox_HTC_SPA_1.34.412.1_4.1.13.54_03.10.90_Ship.exe
what I have to do when I'll finish sending, only run this and then flash to my phone or what. Recently i have dr. gonzo firmware but i don't like it, it to dark for me, so i've already have some experience how to flash
s710 rom flash
hi all
I'm on a vodafone rom and when i apply a shipped WWE rom I get a vendor ID error.
prob. meaning i need to unlock the phone ? I see some reference about flashing the USPL first. But i can't find how to do this. Can anybody help me out ? thx
Look in the USPL thread. You have to app-unlock it and then flash the USPL to the phone. After that it shouldn't be a problem to flash the HTC-Shipped ROM. But watch out, you data connection might not work after that, because at least in Germany the Connection Wizard doesn't give me the right settings for it!
