Windows Mobile 5.0 for O2 Mini

Hi,
I live in India and a local dealer of O2 phones during a telecon. stated that he can upgrade my ROM to Windows Mobile 5.0. I was really shocked as I went through this forum and many places that WM5.0 is not available. I might have asked him atleast 5 times that is it meant for O2 Mini and he says yes. He would do it for a price of 1200 INR. Would you want me to go for it and whats the gueninity of it. If its succesful can I make a SD ROM backup of it and upload it in the forum. Please advice what can be done and it involves cost of Rs. 1200 and I dont want to waste it.

Of course you sould go ahead! After that please write here whether it works or not and if it works you can upload it here. I believe it's possible because there are also another versions of Magician available - they have weaker CPU (Samsung 195 MHz I think), EDGE and WM5. So try and tell us.

kiran1103: is this the original wm2003 Magician, or one of the updates?

Be careful, most people believe that no release version (or unrelease version!) of WM5 has ever been made available for the original HTC Magician. If you can get hold of it, show the guy your phone first and get a guarantee it will work on your phone.
Make sure it's an operating system upgrade, not just Wisbar or a new skin. Get him to show you it on another working phone first, and make sure you know how to check (try soft resetting and check rom version etc, and the "about" option in control panel).
If you can get WM5 for the Magician, I'm sure there are people here who will help copy it off your phone, and I'm sure there are other people who will donate money to cover your costs :wink:
I would advise not going ahead with it until you're sure and have seen it working.

You should knoww that there is no windows mobile 2005 for magican and it was discussed for millions times :!: :!: :!:

Just make sure and see for yourself it running... that would be the best upgrade ever to the magician all in all... not much faith here but it's never bad to try...

Maybe this dealer is the guy who PM'ed me couple of days ago. He asked me where to download WM5 for Magician. Maybe he found this thread:

If it will only in Chinese language, we can localize it to English, but it will than slower than directly in English

Toshiba Portege G500 / WM6 Upgrade

I know this is really only a place for HTC made devices but does anyone use the Toshiba Portege G500?
Looking for a Smartphone again as I'm getting a little bored of my MDA Vario II, the PDA novelty has finally worn off after having an XDA Mini S before that.
I really like the look of the Toshiba Portege G500.
Does anyone know of any WM6 upgrades available for it? Since it seems like a great speced device with having a fast CPU and HSDPA.

hello!
i also have a g500.. but the phone doesn't boot.. when i turn it on it just show the word TOSHIBA and stops. I can't even turn it off. The only way to switch it off is to remove the battery!
Should I just install WM or is there any other way to solve my problem? I thankfull for any kind of help.

at mpx.gen.tr you can actually find stable WM 6.1 and WM 6.5 roms for the device, play around a bit.

What do you mean?
You don't need to "create" a bootable rom, imo.
The .XLDs seem to be X-Loader files and afaik you need to format your SD to FAT16, copy the .XLD to it and start your mobile with "*" pressed and "PowerOn".
"SD Card Upgrade" should appear.
That's what google translated though...
Since i get G500 in some days i'm not the best resource for info.
So please don't kill me if you brick your brick - ehm phone.

Got my Palm Treo 500v days ago, with Chinese Rom flashed in it, which I really hate a lot.
I dumped the chinese rom out in a nb0 format sized 74.0 MB (77,594,624 bytes), and some friend dumped a Palm Treo 500v english rom for me, and i've been trying to flash the english rom into mine.
Follows the problem: How Should I Start All This?
I tried to press down+power, and succeeded in entering BL mode, top of the screen says:EBOOT Ver:V4.0.0 ExtROM:ENG(capture see below)

You need to find a forum dealing with Palm systems, not HTC Universal or HTC overall.

yo man, I know it's a wrong-place-thread but I've solve your problems. But I didn't update the rom, I just restore a backup file of an English-rom-palm 500v in to a Chinese-rom-palm 500v. I used Spb backup and restore in normal mode. After the phone was restored with english backup file, it's display english, everywhere, everything.
But there's one problems. The default sms and mail application didnt work. Your phone still can receive mail, sms but you cant open them, and compose new or reply. So I installed threader6standard, a freeware you can google, then I can compose, send Sms as usually. I havent tried any mail application yet but I think it's ok.

Anyway try to do a search here and maybe asking again

After much waiting, begging and whatnot, I got a brand new, used Qtek S100 from a friend of mine.
Now, I've been messing around with the ROMs, and got MA_DT_WWE_DutchRetail_11200_550_11200_Ship installed.
Now, what is the ROM you guys advise me to install, to better make use of my Magician?
Of course, I'd like to not have problems with Blutooth or the camera, so what is the most stable release available,
not needing to be the most recent?

I've tried out all cotulla rom releases and i think that the "HTCMAG_ROM_WWE_O3" is the best upgrade for your Magician.
of course if you wanna try windows mobile 6.5 you're gonna have to give up your camera 'cause current release of WM6.5 has its camera removed.

"Voice Call" and "SMS" don't need to be configured.
Non of these Roms supports "MMS" configuration but you can install "MMS service pack" on WWE_03, I didn't test this service pack on other roms but i think it should work as well.
