XDA II CarKit

Is there a dedicated in Car Kit for the new XDA II yet? I have read that the original XDA kit could be compatible but am interested in knowing if an updated kit has been launched and if so where I can order it.
Ed
I informed at a shop selling MDa's about that :
They expect the O2 XDA/MDA II carkit in Januari 2004.....
There is a car kit, which is used when you have Tom Tom installed, but I believe you can purchase of eBay. XDAII will fit provided you take off the battery cover first.

Steve do you have any links to or pics of this unit? I presume removing the battery cover is to gain access to the internal bus connection socket.

http://klingtech.dk/produkter/qtek-2020.php
here in the buttom there is a car kit which they sell as a xda2 thing
not sure if it's just the old car kit though
Rudegear,
I am currently in Denmark and trying to decide if I should get the Qtek 2020 here or wait till I am back in the asia-pacific area and get an Xda label.
Anyway on the klingtech site they state 32M ROM, is this correct? The Xda site says 64M ROM.
Thanks,
Nick
not sure about the rom size but as far as i know then all
Himalaya's are the same hardware wise
if you should buy or wait i think should be a question of price vs. waiting
but klingtech is not the cheapest place to get it it's cheaper here

Bluetooth GPS Receiver

Hi there,
I have an XDA II with TOMTOM 3 but I now need a BLUETOOTH GPS RECEIVER.
Can anyone suggets me a make and model number that works well.
Also if you can point me towards any bargain/cheap unit I will be greatly obligded.
Thank u ALL
-
The original tomtom bluetooth receiver works very well, can be had very cheaply on ebay uk.
Plenty of good BT GPS receivers, see here for reviews.
I can recommend the Globalsat, Fortuna ClipOn, Leadtek (aka TomTom BT) and Emtac ranges.
Thanks for the info guys.
Pretty good reviews in the link.
I'm thinking of getting the TOMTOM (Leadtek) one as it looks very sleek and has good reviews.
WHats the opinion on that and how much should I be looking to pay for it!??
A good GPS, the Leadtek 9537 version is better as it has a removeable battery but it is otherwise identical internally to the TomTom badged version. eBay is a good place, around £80 or less would be ok on eBay, more from retailers naturally.
Someones offering me a AVL Bluetooth BT-15 for £70...what do you think?!!?
I'm reviewing one right now, it's known as the Purplegrid K2 BT here in the UK, www.easydevices.co.uk sell it for £82.25 inc of VAT.
It's OK but not very sensitive and It's not nearly as efficient as other BT units despite the headline '16 Channels' so I'd hold out for a better unit.
Excellet
Think I'll get the TomTom or Leadtek then......do you know any places apart from Ebay, where I can get it....
cheers mate, your a great help.....
Try www.totalpda.co.uk, www.easydevices.co.uk, www.pdamods.com, www.superetrader.co.uk and www.handnav.co.uk
i have been selling bt gps for months now!
i have some in tried and tested tom tom route 66 etc no problems, £70 del
works fine on my xda2 and sybmian devices

UPDATE
Got my Bluetooth GPS Receiver yesterday (decided to go with the TomTom/Leadtek version).
I am trully impressed....
Thank you very much Darren.
Also a bit off topic but I see that you write reviews on GPS units. Do you need anymore people to test and review stuff for you? I'm interested.....
You're welcome to submit a review for consideration. I reccomend you participate in our forums for a while and if you can think of an article or subject we haven't covered then perhaps you could author one?

gps reveiver

hi ive just bought an spv m1000 i have tomtom navigator 5 and im looking for a gps receiver any recommendations wired is fine aslong as i can charge the phone aswell and ive seen a few cradles with built in gps that would be ok aswell anyone point me in the right direction for good deals.
cant recommend this site enough: www.pdamods.com
i got the Globalsat BT 338 which is hard to find faults with....there are a few options if you want to spend less but the prices on this site are very competetive.
personally id steer clear of pda mods having heard a quite a few horrror stories try totalpda or expansys gobal postioning systems easy devices are all companies id remoned having delt with them before holux themselves are pretty good to id look at the new 231 slim from holux
i can only speak of a companies i've used....horror stories are to be found with many out there....but that's another matter.
i will say PDAmods are not to good when accesing using Firefox...definitely not optimised for other browsers aside from IE.
is that Holux model the one with the same chipset as the BT-338? it also has roughly half the battery standby time but costs about a fiver less.....what does it do better than the 338 why people are choosing it instead?
do they have any good reviews available online about that one? i for one cant see any plus points.
before deciding, check this site for reviews on a few models: http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/item-menu.php?idSubCat=5
thanks for that ill look into it.
just had a look at holux and wondered if i got the gm-210 and a cable adapter is the cable adapter so that i can power the gps and xda at the same time im new at this can you tell

GPS Software Included?

Hi folks:
There is no information on software included on the HTC Touch Pro. I assume that GPS software (and maps) is probably not included, but am wondering if the GPS can be used with google maps (as is done in the iPhone 3G).
Any info on this will be greatly appreciated. I am on the fence between the iPhone and Raphael...
Thanks.
You can use every navigation software like Google Maps, Navigon, TomTom etc. with the integrated GPS.
Thank you, although that makes the choice so much harder
Google Maps is delivered as part of the base ROM, same as for iPhone.
But of course for a Windows Mobile device you have more choices with several 3rd party GPS software packages (both free ones and chargeable ones).
Handtec sell a version shipped with Tom Tom Navigator 6. As you can see from the link it's a bit pricey! The thing is, about a month ago the "Premium" version - as they call it - was actually cheaper than the standard one , that was when I placed my pre-order for a "premium" one they will have to honour it now!
I'm hoping that since they are shipping it with the Tom Tom software, there will also be some sort of cradle in the box to mount it to the windscreen or dashboard. Anyone know if this is true or am I hoping for too much?

I doubt they will ship a cradle, they only come with the tomtom software and not the maps, you have to purchase the maps to work with it.
Its the same deal as with the diamond, so its unlikely you will get a cradle in the box.

No, they definitely come with maps on that site. If you click on my link you'll notice a drop-down menu under the picture where you can choose to have UK/Ireland maps or the full Western European maps for an extra £19.99.
I chose the Western Europe one, £20 didn't seem like much to pay to me. I don't know what tomtom's map prices are like, but at the moment I'm using a Navman sat-nav system in my car and I've never upgraded the maps for that because their prices are horrendous! Having said that, I've never actually done any sat-nav assisted driving outside the UK so I don't know if I'll ever take advantage of the extra maps - I have used my Navman on holiday in Majorca to help me find a McDonalds on foot though lol so I expect I will use them at some point even if I'm not driving at the time!
I thought the diamond came with TT7 application to which you had to buy maps. As TT6 is an old version and the maps are out of date, i would suggest we wait to find out if HTC are shipping the TT7 application on the software disk. There has been a lot of discussion on the Kaiser forum regarding TT7 from the Diamond.
I have used both TT6 and TT7 on my Kaiser. The latest TT6 maps are version 675, whereas TT7 can use the same maps as the Go910 - with map versions in the 700's. These are much more upto date and support the map share feature.
To be honest I don't really mind if the maps are out of date, I'm not going to be using it as a sat-nav much anyway - once or twice a month if that!
I'll be sure to post back in this thread though and let you know what version of maps I get and whether I get my beloved cradle or not
I just noticed that Handtec also sell the tomtom software on its own. It says on the info page that the maps included are version 6.75, so I'm pretty sure that that is what I'm going to get.
On the plus side, when I deduct the price they're asking for the European map version of Navigator 6 from the price I paid for my Touch Pro premium pre-order, it works out that I'm only paying £460 for the hardware! I'm pretty happy with that, considering the cheapest price I can find for a Touch Pro on it's own is currently £499.95. As I said earlier though, when I placed my order the premium version was cheaper than the standard one - I'm sure they've made a mistake there but I ain't complaining!
I also just looked on Kelkoo, Froogle, and uk.shopping.com and I couldn't find a single website selling version 7 of the tomtom software, so I don't think that it's actually been released as separate software yet - maybe it just comes with certain devices at the moment

As promised, I'm just posting to update everyone. I didn't get a cradle, just got the standard Touch Pro kit that everyone else got.
The software was in a separate anti-static (metallic) bag pre-loaded onto a Kingston 2GB micro SD card (would only be a 1GB card if you only buy UK maps), which comes with adaptors for mini and full size SD and there was also an A4 sheet of paper containing my TomTom product code and installation instructions.
I don't actually know what version my maps are... it doesn't say anywhere on the A4 sheet and I can't find any way of getting the software to tell me. Anyone know how I can find out? (not that I'm really bothered by it as I said before, but someone might want to know! lol)
I already have an in-car charger from my Vario II days, so all I need now is the cradle. Best deal on that I could find was a universal one from mobilefun which looks like it will do the job. It was only £7.45 including shipping. I've ordered it and got an e-mail within the hour saying it has been shipped.
Does anyone have a link where I can download TT7? or can someone mirror it
Touch PRO TT^
The touch pro does not comes with TOMTOM, and the TT6 that came with the TYTN II will not install on the T-PRO does not like the rom.

Take a look at this thread here. I installed the VGA version on my Raphael and it's working fine
Offcourse, it excludes the maps, you'll have to get those yourself.
I got my cradle in the post this morning (VERY fast service from mobilefun - 16 hours from order to delivery!).
Just tried it out and it fits the touch pro perfectly - doesn't cover the volume buttons, microphone or speaker. The mounting arm is flexible yet firm, so it's not likely to suddenly bend itself out of position when you go over a bump. Seems to be ideal for the job, there's even a photo frame built into it so you can put your favourite photo behind your device (a bit pointless I know, but still... )
