XDA II CarKit - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 Accessories

Is there a dedicated in Car Kit for the new XDA II yet? I have read that the original XDA kit could be compatible but am interested in knowing if an updated kit has been launched and if so where I can order it.
Ed

I informed at a shop selling MDa's about that :
They expect the O2 XDA/MDA II carkit in Januari 2004.....

There is a car kit, which is used when you have Tom Tom installed, but I believe you can purchase of eBay. XDAII will fit provided you take off the battery cover first.

Steve do you have any links to or pics of this unit? I presume removing the battery cover is to gain access to the internal bus connection socket.

http://klingtech.dk/produkter/qtek-2020.php
here in the buttom there is a car kit which they sell as a xda2 thing
not sure if it's just the old car kit though

Rudegear,
I am currently in Denmark and trying to decide if I should get the Qtek 2020 here or wait till I am back in the asia-pacific area and get an Xda label.
Anyway on the klingtech site they state 32M ROM, is this correct? The Xda site says 64M ROM.
Thanks,
Nick

not sure about the rom size but as far as i know then all
Himalaya's are the same hardware wise
if you should buy or wait i think should be a question of price vs. waiting
but klingtech is not the cheapest place to get it it's cheaper here

Has anyone used this particular model with an XDA (XDA II)?

Before I buy:
http://www.tomtom.com/products/products.php?ID=209&Language=4
Can't seem to find a provider of XDA car kits in the US and I'd heard that some people successfully used a TomTom kit so I looked into them.
I have a trip coming up next week so I'd like to buy a solution ASAP.
This is a car kit for TOMTOM rather than the XDA-2 By that i mean its a simple holder for the XDA-1 (the xda-2 will fit but it tight unless you remove the battery cover) it power the XDA and the GPS thats it, It is not a car kit for a mobile phone
John
Ok thanks for the quick response, if it'll fit the XDA II (even snugly) and power both it and the GPS then at least I'll know what I'm getting.
I'd love to get a regular car kit for hands free but have come up empty looking for a stateside retailer. Anyone else out there know of one?
The XDA-1 car kit dose work with the XDA-2 and also you can connet your GPS to it, but there is no aerial connetin the XDA-1 kit.
I use the simple OMTOM Cradel in my car with a BT200 bluetooth headset, but i have friends who still use there old XDA-1 car kits

XDA Backpack - got one!

Guys & Gals,
I finally recieved an XDA II Backpack fron Expansys on Friday.
I've had a few hours to tinker with it and so far I'm mildly happy. Works fine for Powerpoint presentations but the screen mirror is sloooooow. With
my previous PDA I used a Margi Presenter-to-go which I think had a higher resolution and uses a remote. However, the biggest difference is that the Margi was almost (though not quite) fast enough for video. The O2 backpack isn't, and uses IA Screen Mirror. When I set it to the right speed for video or animation with high VGA priority, the XDA virtually locks up - it slooooow riiiiiiiight dowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwnnn...... :x
Anyone any advice?
Steve
wifi
Can you use a wifi CF card with this, and how much better is the battery on it?
Not tried a WiFi CF card - I have an SDIO one for the XDA2. However, I do have a CF card for my old PDA so I could give that a try.
The extended battery is 600mAh, so half the size of the standard one. Therefore I expect it to add about 50% to the normal battery life, though a little less if you're running a monitor or projector off the backpack on battery power. I've not tested the life properly yet.
It does add some bulk to the XDA2 as well - it's about the same depth as the XDA2, so almost doubles its depth, and it's fairly heavy too. You can still use the camera with it, but my Piel Frama case won't fit!
Steve
I too have the backpack and have posted comments in another thread in response to another members question about connecting the XDA II to a projector.
Yes you can use a WiFi CF card, I am using a Dell TrueNobile 1180 2.4GHz - IEEE 802.11b card which works fine. The CF slot and the ability to use a CF WiFi card was one of the reasons I bought the BackPack as I like to leave my 512mB SD memory card in the XDA II all the time. Only need WiFi every now and then (use GPRS) and the extra battery in the backpack is a good companion to WiFi usage.
I didn't find the screen mirror software thattt slloowww I used it to provide demonstrations of several software applications at a local user group meeting.
I was able to demo SpriteBackup, FingerClix, RingtoneX and TextMaker. None are video applications but all worked well. Sure I had to wait a few seconds every now and then for the projector to catchup to the XDA II but was still very easy and functional.

Gee... try getting it from o2. That's where I got mine, and only £90 - Expansys want £130!
You got it from O2???? How! The "buy this now" link from www.my-xda.com only dumps you in the front of O2's shop. There only seems to be XDA I accessories there.

Thanks
Jamie
The backpack is here:
XDA II Backpack
But O2 they are asking for IMEI Number, anyone can help and give O2 IMEI number, because I have I-Mate
Thanks
After all this I have had an email from Expansys saying they have shipped my back pack, it should be here tomorrow. I can only assume they have them in stock now.
Only reason to get it from O2 now is that it is cheaper.
I don't think they will mind about the IMEI number they will want to make as many sales as possible to pay for their advertising campaigne.
Adam
No, try to buy from thier site it will not procced if not enter an O2 IMEI
If I was to post you my O2 IMEI number is there any security risk. I don't know what it does anyway. Could it mean you could cancel my 02 contract listen to calls etc. Does anyone know?????
Adam :?:
Your IMEI No. is a unique identifier for your handset. With it someone could clone your account and run up a bill that you'll be liable for. Or they could cancel your phone - the suppliers can use it to disable your handset so you can't make calls any more.
Steve.
Thanks for that. I think I will keep the number to myself then. Sorry
Adam
I bought my BackPack in Malaysia. Is available in several PDA stores here. No need for online purchase. Retail for RM699.00 before discount. You can do your own conversions to check local costs.

Yet another XDA 2 Car Kit ( but + Wardriving ) question...

Hi,
I've been pondering over this for a while now. I'm finding it difficult to get a wired car kit for the XDA 2 in the UK. Now the official O2 is not yet available (but I'm sure someone will argue this point) however the pictures of the offical kit is no good for me. The O2 website shows a cradle that goes over the top of the handset, blocking the SD slot. I need this open so that I can use a SDIO wireless network card in the car kit... wardriving and all that... I've found the following kit advertised for £150 that looks like it does not block the SD slot, all the info I have is this photo:
http://66.135.202.34/02/i/01/c8/74/ba_1_b.JPG
I've emailled the chap selling them and he says that the kit is made by E-Lead and it is the offical kit from O2 in Germany...
The question I have is several people have reported that the official kit does not play Tom Tom Sav Nav instructions out the car kit, and that it only plays phone calls. I was wondering if anyone (probably in Germany but also maybe UK...) knows if this is the case with this kit too...
Cheers all
Kev/.

I would like to buy a used XDA II

I cannot afford these outrageous prices! Plus, it's not readily available in the US. Anybody have a used or know where I can find a refurbished unit? I've been trying to do my research and am finding discrepancies all over the place: Pocket PC Phone Edition vs XDA II vs MDA II vs QTEK2020 vs Himalaya, etc. I'd even be interested in a used XDA I for a much lesser price.
check your PM...
I've got an XDA I for sale now that I bought a II. I picked up my XDA II on eBay in the US for $605, near-new. Luckily for me, nobody here seems to know what they are and few people bid on it.
If you're interested in my old one, let me know. The case has the usual paint peeling, but it's perfectly functional and the screen is 100% mint (always had a PPC Techs protector, included). It has always lived in an EB leather case, also included. Got a few spares like an extra headset and probably some other stuff, need to go through my stash.
ive also got an xda ii for sale second hand all works fine but blocked over here in the uk would ship to us if buyer pays shipping cost full boxed as new even got tomtom 3 navigator installed on it but you would need us maps and a gps unit n e body isnterested make me a reansonable offer remember the xda ii phone will not work in the uk i have tried and tried to get it unblocked but found out som ebody i brought if from sold it then reported it lost so they claimed for a new one and the one i had of them the network operator block so i was well ripped off so thats the reason ive putting it up for sale any body intrested in this pm me and make an offer
