Guys & Gals,
I finally recieved an XDA II Backpack fron Expansys on Friday.
I've had a few hours to tinker with it and so far I'm mildly happy. Works fine for Powerpoint presentations but the screen mirror is sloooooow. With
my previous PDA I used a Margi Presenter-to-go which I think had a higher resolution and uses a remote. However, the biggest difference is that the Margi was almost (though not quite) fast enough for video. The O2 backpack isn't, and uses IA Screen Mirror. When I set it to the right speed for video or animation with high VGA priority, the XDA virtually locks up - it slooooow riiiiiiiight dowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwnnn...... :x
Anyone any advice?
Steve
wifi
Can you use a wifi CF card with this, and how much better is the battery on it?
Not tried a WiFi CF card - I have an SDIO one for the XDA2. However, I do have a CF card for my old PDA so I could give that a try.
The extended battery is 600mAh, so half the size of the standard one. Therefore I expect it to add about 50% to the normal battery life, though a little less if you're running a monitor or projector off the backpack on battery power. I've not tested the life properly yet.
It does add some bulk to the XDA2 as well - it's about the same depth as the XDA2, so almost doubles its depth, and it's fairly heavy too. You can still use the camera with it, but my Piel Frama case won't fit!
Steve
I too have the backpack and have posted comments in another thread in response to another members question about connecting the XDA II to a projector.
Yes you can use a WiFi CF card, I am using a Dell TrueNobile 1180 2.4GHz - IEEE 802.11b card which works fine. The CF slot and the ability to use a CF WiFi card was one of the reasons I bought the BackPack as I like to leave my 512mB SD memory card in the XDA II all the time. Only need WiFi every now and then (use GPRS) and the extra battery in the backpack is a good companion to WiFi usage.
I didn't find the screen mirror software thattt slloowww I used it to provide demonstrations of several software applications at a local user group meeting.
I was able to demo SpriteBackup, FingerClix, RingtoneX and TextMaker. None are video applications but all worked well. Sure I had to wait a few seconds every now and then for the projector to catchup to the XDA II but was still very easy and functional.

Gee... try getting it from o2. That's where I got mine, and only £90 - Expansys want £130!
You got it from O2???? How! The "buy this now" link from www.my-xda.com only dumps you in the front of O2's shop. There only seems to be XDA I accessories there.

Thanks
Jamie
The backpack is here:
XDA II Backpack
But O2 they are asking for IMEI Number, anyone can help and give O2 IMEI number, because I have I-Mate
Thanks
After all this I have had an email from Expansys saying they have shipped my back pack, it should be here tomorrow. I can only assume they have them in stock now.
Only reason to get it from O2 now is that it is cheaper.
I don't think they will mind about the IMEI number they will want to make as many sales as possible to pay for their advertising campaigne.
Adam
No, try to buy from thier site it will not procced if not enter an O2 IMEI
If I was to post you my O2 IMEI number is there any security risk. I don't know what it does anyway. Could it mean you could cancel my 02 contract listen to calls etc. Does anyone know?????
Adam :?:
Your IMEI No. is a unique identifier for your handset. With it someone could clone your account and run up a bill that you'll be liable for. Or they could cancel your phone - the suppliers can use it to disable your handset so you can't make calls any more.
Steve.
Thanks for that. I think I will keep the number to myself then. Sorry
Adam
I bought my BackPack in Malaysia. Is available in several PDA stores here. No need for online purchase. Retail for RM699.00 before discount. You can do your own conversions to check local costs.

Geenraly speaking, i think that the XDA 2deplets very quick, but nether as quick as when you use GPRs or the phone portion. After having payed a visit to Tmobile's website, i was quite surprised to see that they offer the XDA1 batterypack to XDA2 users and so give the impression that is is usable and compatible on the XDA2; As this additionnal external baterry is 1200mah it could be quite interesting to buy one to supplement the XDA2's power Is this true and has someone already experienced with it?
Do you have any information or tweaks to share in order to have a decent batterylife time for the XDA2 even in phonemode or gprs?
Awaiting your input, i remain, Brgds, ARNAUD
I have recently broke my XDA screen.
Does anybody know if the screen of the IPAQ 3630 is the same as the XDA? Is there any hardware modification to be done or the connectors are ALL the same?
People at Microsoft told me the Wallaby was designed after the Ipaq 3630, so most of the parts, including the screen should be the same.
Please advise. It could be helpful for a lot of people fouled by O2 with CRAZY requests for fixing the screen.
The ipaq 3600 series screen is bigger.
I have no idea about what you asked, but I would really like to know how you broke your screen?

it is very easy to make the screen break ... just drop your XDA, it happened to one of my XDAs
regards, monika
i drop mine about 5x a day...(scratches on case, looseing that wen vibrates, it rattles alot)...thats why im SERIOUSLY lookin for a dummy model, but everytime i try to check on ebay, the auctions are over...so i tried going to TMO stores, or where ever they carry them, always ask the sales ppl if they could just sell me the model, an they never want to  i jus tell em to order an extra one, an say sumone stole the old one....but since theyr too stcuk up to get a few extra $$$$ in there pockets, ima just have to "take" one
Basically the screen has imploded. I was talking, the screen went on power saving mode, and when ended the call it was broken.
O2 asked me too much money to repair, but I am sure the screen of the IPAQ 3630 is the same size, already checked.
Has anyone tried to open up both devices and check it?
Just want to know if connectors are the same.
Thanks
yes, my friend did open the device .... not mine but the similar unit - MDA, seems like it is a sony make, but according to his words IPAQ screen will not fit
BTW I have the same problem - I have two machines - one MDA with broken but functioning screen and XDA I do operate on a daily basis, I can make calls from both units ... but hesitating between repair and sale as is

I broke my screen by dropping it face down on a stone 1 week after buying it. I was insured by O2 for £4.99 a month and the next day I recieved a brand new one with all the accessories and I only had to return the main unit. I now have 2 batteries, headphones, cradles etc.

Do you fancy selling all those XDAII extra's
Sorry, I find them really usefull, I have the cradle next to my bed and one attatched to my desktop. The spare battery is allways usefull as the main batteries are not very goo. that leaves me with a headset and a dummy SD card which i am sure are not very usefull to you. If it happens again I will contact you. Adam
Hi all,
As some of you may know, I've had a problem with my Himalaya for 2-3 weeks now, soI wish to sell it for spare parts, as I have been unable to restore it from death after upgrading to tofclock's w2k5 2.01wwe.
Namely, I used this rom for a week, and then suddenly my phone died, I only get a blank white screen(no usb or serial words) when I do hard reset, and that's about it. I am not even able to get into bootloader mode, perhaps the b/l got corrupted in the upgrade process or something. However, I gave up trying to restore it, so I figured out that I can sell it to someone for spare parts, or maybe if someone is able to restore it, then good for him, he can get an awesome device for litle money.
This is the deal:
My Himalaya (Qtek2020) is in good shape, the housing is in excellent condition(apart from few scratches of course, it's been used for 1,5 yrs or so, but I've never dropped it or something) the screen is also in good shape (I've had screen protectors all the time since I've had it) all of the button are working(D-Pad, Power, record, camera, reset, calendar and contacts buttons)connectors are all working as well, I have a wall outlet charger, sync cradle and a leather case. I can sell it altogether or separately.
The price is negotiable, for whoever is interested. The payment will be discussed as well, we can do it via paypal, direct bank transfer, western union or something else. I am open to offers
If you're interested drop me a line here, PM me or email me:

P.S. I can also send you pictures if you're interested. Let me know.

hmmmm...
weird....
I didn't receive an email notification about this reply.
And I am sure I did subscribed for one...
However munzab,
I did sell the himalaya to another member of this board, back in February.
Thanks for asking though...
All the best,
Jordan.
I'am thinking about upgrading to an Atom so would anyone be interested in the following
HTC Alpine (O2 XdaIIi):
O2 XdaIIi (unlocked to accept any SIM),
Updated ROM,
PPC comes fully operational with no damage or problems what so ever (except for the standard minor scratches of everyday use).
Also comes with:
Stereo Headphones,
BlueTooth Earpiece,
High Capacity 2500mAh Battery (With Space backplate, with fitted signal booster),
SanDisk 2.0GB SecureDigital Memory Card,
512MB Secure Digital Memory Card,
Disk containing extra applications,
Disk containing newest version of MicroSoft ActiveSync,
Leather Case,
PolyCarbonate Case,
Alternating Current Charging Plug and adapter socket,
Desktop Charging Cradle,
Spare Stylus,
Original 1500mAh Battery.
This phone has never had a problem, the only problem I had was finding the settings to use GPRS with an O2 PAYG SIM, but thanks to here, I got the settings (I will also write down the settings if you need them). Other than that it is an exceptional phone. I'am sadend to be selling it but I want an XDA Atom now. So if your interested, then please post in reply.
Also due to the phone being sold elsewhere the highest offer wins.
Thank you for reading, and I look forward to your reply.
Regards,
Mr R. Murphy.
UPDATE
Sorry I meant to add that the reserve is £180, I will accept personal cheque, paypal, postal order, basically anything but cash
I put it on here before eBay, because I'd much rather that an enthusiast got it
Another new guy, will try not to be too stupid, I have done many hours of reading, just can't decide...
....i had a go of my bro's m600 on orange and liked the idea, well I want one but now know there's loads due to many hours on here. I have a max budget of £150 but would rather spend closer to £100 ....
I'll use the phone for MSN/internet/email, MP3 and for texting....I had a P910i and didnt like the fully qwerty keyboard idea .....any recomendations? Wifi is a must. I was thinkin m500 with wifi card but I'm new to these types of mobiles.
Cheerz in advance
any opinions? I got told I'd find help on this forum ?
Hi, If wifi is important try looking on Ebay for a M600, you may find one for your budget, Music quality on the m500 with DSP tweak is superb & the device is very solid in construction compared to the M600.
I bought an M600 from Ebay for the wife cost me £170 & free to unlock thanks to this site.
thanks. Was lookin at the m500 due to being cheaper and most the bugs ironed out by now i take it? Heard wifi can be unpredictable or has that been sorted?
Yes the M500 is a good bye. Like you say all the bugs are resolved & you've got a huge amount of free software to make it function how you prefer. Your only compomise is the wifi via SDcard, & yes they are a bit hit & miss.
