WiFi Scheduling for World-Offline on Atom - General Topics

Hi everyone,
I've been using World-Offline for some time now - people refer to it as a much better version of AvantGo - and am pretty happy with it. Although, I always need to manually schedule my syncs in the morning.
So, I was wondering. O2 Plus allows me to schedule Bluetooth on/off at a specific time, but unfortunately I cant let it connect to WiFi automatically. This would be really cool to do the following:
06:25AM: WiFi ON
06:30AM: World-Offline syncs data with max of 30mins sync time
07:05AM: WiFi OFF
08:30AM+: I read the latest news/websites on my phone on my way to work
Actually, I wake up later than that, but hey, thats besides the topic
So, my question is: Does anyone know of a WiFi scheduler that I could use to do the above? Thanks so much for any suggestions!
Regards,
Mask2011

Nobody a clue on this one? Would be really cool if there's some tool that can just switch on and off wireless access at a specific schedule..

Need Help finding an App that I know exists...

I know this app is out there somewhere, but I'm unable to come up with the right search terms and I'm hoping that someone reading this thread will know what i'm talking about. So here goes:
I need a program that basically acts as a scheduler for which services will be turned on and off.
For instance, If I know that i walk to work between 7:30 - 8:00am, I'd like Bluetooth=On, Wifi=Off, Phone=On, etc. Once I get to work between 8 and 5, I might want this program to turn the bluetooth off, turn 3G data off, etc, but then once I get home turn wifi On, Bluetooth back on, etc etc. You get the idea. Basically a program that I schedule when certain connections should be available, which is really just a way to conserve maximum battery power. I saw a program that did exactly this during the waiting for the fuze to come out, but I must have forgotten to bookmark that page.
Any help would be much appreciated!!
Hi,
You could try Communication Manager Pro (shareware). It can be found here http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/Enhancements/Communication-Manager-Pro-CommMgrPro-37327.shtml
I tried the previous version 2.3 and it had some issues with randomly disconnecting bluetooth so for me it wasn't a keeper. Maybe current version has this bug ironed out.

Check out SPB Phone Suite, it has a lot of scheduling features for com and sound settings
I use SPB Phone Suite, and it works as a dream.
You can also set a profile that is linked to your calendar, so you can make the phone silent when in a meeting.
It also support hardware-triggers, like turning on a profile when charging, another when headset is connected and so on.
Thanks for the replies gents. I think SQB might have been the one I'm thinking of. If there are others people use, keep them coming. If there's a free tool that will do this, even better, but i suppose $20 might be reasonable depending on what else the software does. I'll check it out.
There is a free tool: WirelessTime.

Some basic Touch Pro questions

I have had my Verizon Touch Pro for less than a week and this is my first Windows Mobile device. I have been doing a lot of reading here on the forum to educate myself, but I have a few basic questions I was hoping someone could answer. Basically, I am not understanding all of the terminology.
I am experiencing super short battery life and I want to disable a few things I may not need, but am not sure about.
I use wireless sync and the pc monitor to sync my email and calendar with my desktop. I never plug the phone into the pc and really don't see myself doing so. Every now and then I notice activesync is running. Can I disable that? Is activesync only for plugging into the pc... do I need it running since I use wireless sync?
I also am not sure I understand 3G fully. Is that the same thing as EVDO? I live in zip code 47274... do I even have 3G coverage here? Is that something I can disable?
Sorry to ask what may be stupid questions.
you can disable 3g, bluetooth and autorecieve incomng beams
if you by wireless sync mean to exchange then yes
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3G is what 3g means
if you don't have a 3 icon on the titlebar you dont got 3g
it can be turned off in the phone settings
backlight is a big batt killer so set it to low brightness
and have the phone suspend fast when not used
I had the verizon version to. Verizon isnt 3g, they use evdo, my understanding is that evdo has better coverage and is quicker for now. 3g could be quicker in the future.
as far as the battery life i would look into a custom ROM. This is advanced stuff but my battery was horrid with the stock rom but moving it to Scott Crosslins rom it is much better.
changing the rom on your phone is advanced stuff. Read everything about it before you try it. it can brick your phone. I would still recommend doing it in the longrun.
Verizon really tried to gimp the phone, the new rom fixes things.

do you keep wireless on? That also uses a lot of battery. I'm far from an expert, but the way I think about it is The screen takes away the battery the fastest, followed by the different wireless functions: bluetooth, wifi, internet, and phone (not necessarily in that order). So do you do automatic syncs over wifi or manual syncs? If they are automatic, then you are likely draining the battery that way. Consider keeping the wifi off, and turning it on as you need to sync.
The wireless sync works over the phone data connection, not wifi. They are automatic every two hours.
When I did some googling about 3G and evdo, it seemed to indicate that evdo was Verizon's 'flavor' of 3G... So, by turning off 3G, will I also be disabling evdo?

How to get mail for WinMo over WiFi without constant connection

I am not sure if this has been discussed before but searching didn't help much as I am not sure what keyword to use.
I have a Fuze (Touch Pro) without the data service and would like the phone to periodically get the mails over WiFi. I am posting it here assuming this would apply to all WinMo devices. If not, please enlighten me.
In default settings, the phone disconnects WiFi as soon as it goes to sleep. I used Advanced Config to enable WiFi even in sleep, but now it stays connected all the time even though Pocket Outlook is configured to run every 15 minutes. For last several months it has been working this way but it drains the battery very quickly unlike my iPhone, which lasts the more than a day because it connects only to check mails when inactive.
I know with 3G service I don't have worry about it but wondering if there is any utility or setting in registry that would connect periodically for a minute or two so that PO can check for new messages.
Thanks.

Thanks powersupplyzzzz. The interval is already configured in ActiveSync/Pocket Outlook, but it doesn't connect to the WiFi unless it's already connected. Does it work for others? I mean does it connect to WiFi automatically when ActiveSync is ready to sync?
Wondering if I posted in the wrong forum or I am asking for something not possible on WM at the moment ...

AFAIK what you are asking is not possible, unless you ask someone to write you a script or there is an app that does this, but i havent come across one.
Thanks timmymarsh, this is what I was afraid of. I guess the old iPhone still has some use for this advantage.

What you need is a car battery that you can strap to your back which will boost your battery when required
I'll have a fish around for a real solution.

[Q] Initiate Cell Phone's hotspot feature from a tablet.

Hey guys,
I am not sure if this has been attempted before or if it even remotely possible.
The end result however would be neat.
In essence, I want to be able to unlock my tablet, finger a widget and have it tell my phone wirelessly to turn on the hotspot feature so that I magically have internet on my tablet. Needless to say, both are Android and rooted.
My initial idea was to use tasker and create a profile using "bluetooth connection" so that on my tablet I would have a widget (Extended Controls) and could talk to my phone using that, so that if I want the hotspot to be activated on the phone I simply turn on the BT on the tablet. However, I can pair the two devices but they never actually connect up. Therefore that plan won't work, and I am wondering if any of you have any ideas...
I know I can setup BT tethering, and that it would be better for battery life, but it is also a lot slower than Wifi, and at that point would wonder what the benefit of 4G would be!
Anyway, if you have an idea, feel free to let everybody know!
I've actually developed an app to do that; it's called AutoTether and is available on the market. If you care to give it a try, feel free to PM me with any problems you encounter while using it.
Shame on me...
...for not finding this little gem!
I am glad you went ahead and did this. Sadly, it doesn't seem to work for me.
When looking for other devices, it does find my phone, but when trying to initiate the tethering form the tablet, I get the messages "Sending Command..." followed by "Cannot find target device".
I am assuming you are using bluetooth as a communication channel between the two devices, and I am wondering if it could be the kernel on my phone missing some module (LeanKernel Normal from imoseyon). I will poke more into this shortly once I get adb shell hooked up.
Let me know in the mean time if you think there is something else I am missing.
Assuming I get it working, it will have been one of the best purchased made so far
Mea Culpa
Okay, not my day.
Really sorry. I think the app works fine and the problem was with my phone.
Reboot fixed it. Before reboot wifi was reporting "error" status for some reason or other...
Anyway, good job, well done and thanks again!
Enjoy it, and if you like it please don't hesitate to review it or send me any feedback or feature requests you have. You should really check out the screen monitor mode, too: it completely automates everything by only turning the hotspot on when the screen is on! I always find myself forgetting to turn off the hotspot manually, so this has saved my phone's battery more than once.
This is a must have app!!!!!!!
I have never posted to any of the forums. I have browsed every page of of every section of the the Asus Transformer section and of the 300 apps I have installed on my TF this one just moved to my all time favorite. My TF and my Evo now work seamlessly together. I love the simple 1x1 widget it does not draw attention to its purpose and adds an illusion of 3g built in connectivity. Hats off to you.
Just a quick thing, would it be possible to re-enable wifi when the hotspot is deactivated?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
Doesn't seem to be working for me. I run a Droid 2, stock rooted, and TF 3.1.
I normally tether via bluetooth, but the app doesn't seem to offer bluetooth auto-tethering.
I'll keep the app purchased, as I'm getting a new phone soon and I'd like to be able to use this app in the future.
Thanks for the feedback folks! I'm going to look into the problem with your Droid 2 (please don't hesitate to PM me any details you can, since that'll help me get it working).
About automatically reenabling wifi: that's high on my list of priorities to add. It was originally part of the program, but I encountered a lot of bugs and had to take it out. It's good to know that you'd like the feature, and you can count on seeing it in the near future.
Wow
Auto Tether works great. Thanks. I have Samsung Vibrant and Transformer. I gave it 5 stars and a nice review.
Fantastic, Installing and testing now!
EDIT: Works perfectly
Greatest thing for Tablets so far!
This must go on the Required applications list!!
I'm interested in this, but my phone is an HTC Hero CDMA running aospCMod 2.3.4 and under Wireless & Networks it only lists Tethering, not hotspot. Under Tethering it only mentions USB tethering, no Wifi. Which leads me to my question...
Is it possible for this to work with the Wireless Tether app instead? I expect it won't, but it can't hurt to ask. Thanks!
Awesome, HTC Supersonic running CM7 and TF104 running Prime 1.4, works great.
Awesome App!!!
For anyone still following this thread, I've just released a small update for AutoTether that allows wifi to automatically re-enable itself when tethering is turned off (if it was previously enabled).
Everything should be quite seamless. Thank you for you ongoing feedback!
Will this work on sense phones? I have a mytouch 4g, and this is an awesome idea, but i could imagine sense getting in the way...
I can't guarantee it will work on a phone if the manufacturer has modified the hotspot function. If you have a Sense-enabled phone and you'd like to try the app out, you can PM me your name and I'll make sure you get a refund if things don't work (outside of the normal refund window).
I think the new 15 minute refund window is horribly unfair, especially for an app as complex as this one.
Tasker will easily do this.
Couple suggestions, not sure if possible...
Ability to enable/disable wifi on the client when enabling/disabling tether on the server
Ability to choose the connection on the server (mobile data/3g vs. 4g)

Care to elaborate?
I've started getting FCs from autotether randomly, what can I give you for logs to help diagnose the issue?
Also, can screen monitor be disabled when using the widget to enable Tethering? Maybe make it a configurable item in the settings?

[Q] Android: Turn off Wi-Fi when idle, turn back on, on schedule.

Hi
I've looked some time now for an app like this, no luck.
So what I'm looking for is an app that:
* Turns wifi OFF when the phone has been idle/locked for 0-x minutes.
* On a schedule, turns the wifi ON for x minutes thereby letting it sync apps like email, then turning the wifi back OFF again.
I'm thinking this could have several uses, one beeing having the wifi "constantly turned on" without concerning yourself with the battery drain. It would let apps/functions like email, calendar and instant messengers sync on interval.
I know there are several apps that handle wifi scheduling in different ways but i've found none that can do the above...
Thanks in advance!
http://tasker.dinglisch.net/
I'm sorry I don't know how to actually use it, but this application should be relevant for what you are looking for.
if your rom support crontab, its possible to write a script to implement it.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Thanks. I downloaded trial and tried it. I couldn't figure out how to "program" the program to get it to work as described in my initial post.
Though that might be a Q for the Tasker "forum".
I'm a little surprised that there is no simple app for this function already out there. Seems to me it could save a lot of battery for some people.
Go to Setings - Wi-Fi setings - press menu-additional...(set up)......ready to go....!

Tasker can very easily schedule a wifi toggle (every x minutes or hours). It would be slightly more complicated to complete your second desired function, but with a little help from their forums, I'm sure it would be possible.
