2 simcards active in one device ? - General Topics

Hopefully there will be soon smartphone where it will be possible to have 2 simcards online at the same time.
I think lots of people here have the problem taking 2 phones with them (including me)
HTC PLEASE READ THIS !!!

Why do you need to take 2 phones with you. Can't you just forward all calls and data to the other phone??

of course this would be possible BUT ihave to different providers (one for buisness and one private) so that would be very expensive enabling that option.

to have 2 sims active at the same time you will need TWO gsm radio's.
That will make devices (also with limited people asking for it) very expensive.
I do it this way:
1. Dual sim adapter (one sim business, one private) and Wivit SSS.
2. On the private voicemail I mention my business number on which I am reachable during office-hours
Business calls outside office hours end up in voicemail. That fine with me.
Private calls inside office-hours are informed aout my other number, so the caller can try again.
Next to this there are also dual sim adapters that switch every .. minutes from SIM

XDA Mini S / UK 3 Network

I have just upgraded my O2 XDA Mini S to an O2 XDA Orbit. I'm trying to pass the wizard on to my son who currently is in a monthly contract with the UK 3 network. Both the Wizard and Orbit will not recognise the 3 sim. I've searched widely and find a lot of conflicting opinion but some say that the 3g card will work on a 2g phone (albeit talk and text only without the 3g frills). Does anyone have any advice. The wizard is unlocked and accepts O2 and Voda cards. Is it the O2 software that needs replacing or is it that the card will never work on this particular unit.
Thanks
Three Network now has both GSM and 3G coverage for a full UK coverage. As such, it *sometimes* works on non-3G phone. Depending on your area, I think. But, in general non3G phone (i.e. the Wizard) doesnt work well with Three

Thanks for the rapid reply. Yes, the fact that 3 backs up on to Orange to give full coverage set me wondering. The phone will not even accept the sim - saying no sim or invalid sim. Is there some kind of barring actually operating on the sim to prevent it's recognition by any phone other than a 3 supplied unit? Odd one this.
Well, the common one is SIM-LOCK phone, that the case where the phone is locked to a specific SIM only. i.e. A-SIM in A-Phone, B-SIM doens't work in A-Phone.
However, it is unlikely that you have a Phone-lock SIM, or rather, barred IMEI. That is, the network only works on phone (i.e. with the IMEI) that is registered with the network. Hence, A-SIM will not work on B-Phone because B-Phone's IMEI is not registered with A-Network. Technically, you can do that, but I can't seems to see what's the business benifit of it. Further, you may check this buy going to their website and see if they are selling SIM only package. If so, they are unlikely to be blocking unregistered IMEI, more likely they (the phones) are not compatible with three network.
If you were to go to the Universal forum, there are people using Universal (a 3G phone) with Three Network. I'm not sure if these phones are from them, but my hunch is they are not.
Thanks for the info
Regards
I have this problem on mine too i wan to use a 3 sim in mine, mine is unlocked to all networks but three sims dont work, believe three sims are a different type of sim and thus dont work in phones not designed to take that type of sim, as my bro has a newer pocket pc phone and m sim works ok in that, think iv read somewhere they use different voltages or frequecy or something?!?

Is it Possible to activate HTC Pro with no data package

I talk to us cellular a few weeks ago and they said I could activate a HTC touch Pro without the data package. Well, I bought one on ebay and went to activate the phone and then they said I had to have a data package. Is there anyway to activate the htc touch pro as a phone only? I would still like to use the wifi, gps and and sync my calendar to my computer. I tried to find info on the web but have found nothing that really helped me.
I think US Cellular is a CDMA network, which means, unlike GSM where you just swap the SIM card from an existing phone, US Cellular actually has to activate your phone for you for your account to be active. So this isn't really a phone issue, its really a matter of whether US Cellular will permit you to use a smartphone w/o a data plan.
Call back a few times asking the same thing, sometimes different customer service reps will give you different answers/service.
Yes, us cellular reps seems to give different answers and it is a CDMA. Is it possible to activate the phone without them knowing it is a smart phone and just activate the phone option. I would need to know how to activate the phone before hand and know what option I need to fill out. I would give them the dec number and than ask for the number I need to make the phone work.
Not sure if this rings true for CDMA, but the IMEI number for GSM phones identify each phone uniquely (manufacturer, model, plus unique code for each phone). So if you need to give them a similiar number for a CDMA phone (its called the ESN number I think), they'll know right away if its a smartphone (if they cared to look it up).
Best bet is probably keep calling until you get a nice rep that won't ask too many questions.

[Q] Can I use a data-only SIM in my phone?

Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S without a data-connection, I really need a data-connection becouse I think the phone really needs a data-connection.
So here's my question:
Is it possible to get a subscription of a data-only SIM (the subscriptions they use for tablets etc.)
It is possible to use that kind of SIM/subscription in a phone?
Since I don't really make calls or send text's I really need that but I still want to be able to call and send text's.
Does anyone got a answer?
I think it would be helpful if you told us where you're from. I'm pretty sure the conditions for data-only plans differ from country to country.
I'm from The Netherlands.
Data only sim should work fine. Curious to know, why you need data only sim on a phone. It kills the purpose of having a phone.
I tried some time ago in HTC Desire and it didn't work, still don't know why. (it works with PC + USB Huawei modem on both Windows and Linux, i have E1752 model)
And as an answer for qustion "why do you need it?" for example in Poland there is company which for the government licence for some frequences is obligated to offer free internet for 3 years. Don't think its lika a fairytale - internet disconnects after one hour and the speed is limited, but still can be very usefull when you are tight on budget or just need to check something quickly.
PS. maybe i should add that in this case voice service is disabled on the sim card level (tele service (ts11)) what seems to be a reason for some devices not to work.
edit: finally it appears to work. Dosen't display signal strength but websites (slowly) load.

Dual Sim

Has anyone used this feature? It was one of the reasons I got the phone - I'm planning on moving my landline number to the phone. AT&T said they don't support dual sims (if it works it works, if it doesn't - sorry!). So I thought I'd ask to see if anyone is using dual sims (preferably with AT&T) and how the experience is going .. thanks!

I have two sims in it since day one - works great!
I made this little video of how Dual Sim cards works on this phone:
You can switch data source without taking sims out (in settings)
2 AT&T sims will work just fine - it does not matter who the carrier iss as long as phone can read the sim cards. I use two t-mobile sims. People here have both t-mo and AT&T sims in.
Can't help you when it comes to AT&T as I'm in Australia these days, but we've had mixed results. My wife has a Blu Pure XL and I use a OnePlus 2. Both of us have SIMs on Virgin (Optus reseller) and Telstra - mine are prepaid, hers are postpaid.
In her case, having both SIMs activated leaves her primary Virgin SIM nearly useless. She can surf the web but no other apps work over broadband (including Email, Hangouts, Location services). If she takes it to a Virgin store and finds a sympathetic employee, he/she can go and "reset the back end" of her account and everything starts working again - for about a day or so. Other employees simply check the settings and proclaim it's a software problem with her OS.
In my case, everything works normally - except when I'm at home. When at home I need to disable the Telstra SIM (data-only) on my OP2 in order for the Virgin SIM to work in any capacity. I've checked and my local tower supports 2G, FWIW.
Of course, Australia and the U.S. are not known for dual-SIM phones - they're more popular in countries where you can't rely on having coverage from any one company as you move about. It's arguable that dual SIM phones potentially cut into the market of any individual mobile provider, so I doubt you'll find anyone willing to support them.
I doubt any provider will actively block the feature, but if some quirk of their setup causes you a problem, you're probably on your own.
For what it's worth, I've seen both the OnePlus 2 and the Blu Pure XL use dual SIMs perfectly well. Just - not all the time!

Virtual Sims
Hi What Samsung has done is create an e but sim or virtual sim. this allows your carrier to connect to your phone similar to the way a GSM service works at 4G speeds and much more adaptability . The first and most impressive is you can tie your watch to t-mobiles digits system. This is how phones work world wide except in the US until now. The FCC has until now made it illegal to have multiple numbers received or sent from a single device. with Digits app you can have multiple phone numbers both making and receiving calls using their app on almost any device. with high end Samsung devices you can use what is called multi-line services allowing all the advantages without having to add software. The only small bummer is the gear S2 only allows one of your Digits numbers to be used at a time. However that same number can ring to all your devices as well as your other Digits numbers. I am terminally ill so for me this means I am ALWAYS connected to all my medical staff with their own number I only give them and a few family members. This number ignores do not disturb settings and also allows my specialist to know this is me calling on the emergency line often causing them to handle in minutes what used to take an hour. All in all this is one of the best features and according to tmobile it all started trying to give watches virtual sim cards. I have heard other companies are using this same work around of the FCC laws to introduce similar services on more service providers.
