Extracting a installed CAB.. - General Topics

Anyone know how to extract a CAB file which is built into a ROM of a device?
I want to create a CAB of something which is installed in the ROM. Any idea??

You need to use DumpRom.exe to extract the files from ROM to your computer.
Try to search closely about it
Good luck!

Does DumpRom produce proper files? On my universal I have a lot of slightly corrupted executeables/resources. Doesn't bother me much, I use another method, but perhaps I have an old copy of dumprom?

Yes,some files could result corrupted

Will this work with the network branding and customisation packs?

is there any idea??

Easyest way is to download Molski's Devpac from http://www.molski.biz/ read pdf i advise you print this as its good reference,
you also need a copy of winimage
install both programs
Basicly
copy your rom NBF file to the c\devpac\source directory
nav to c\devpac\tools\batch\shortcuts and run dumprom
open file c:\devpac\romdump\9b000000-Extension.nb with winmage
after editing save and use the devpac to rebuild the rom and flash
All instructions for building are in the PDF thats been placed on your desktop if you did print this will save you switching windows at every click while building

how do I extract a cab file

okay, so I looked at all the rom cooking wiki's, and rom update wikis... can't find out if this is even possible or how to do it.
basically, there's some games and applications built into some of my roms that I want to have in one of the custom cooked roms that I liked. so how do I move it over? is this even possible?
if so, I haven't been able to find any posts about this... so sorry if it's already posted somewhere.
TIA
you must have the phone connected to your computer. move the cab file over to your phone after syncing. Find the file on your phone , click and install.
I know how to install cab files... I mean extract them... is there a way to extract a program that's already on an existing rom?
for example... xxx's WM6.1 rom has game A included. how do I extract that so I can put game A on my phone?
yeah dynamite, think the other way around.

extremly difficult...all though it is possible its not worth the effort...you would have to go through file explorer and find each file accociated with that program...then every regestry key...then create a cab from these files that would install them into each appropriate directory....yea...

searched quite a bit - rar that will not install

Been searching a couple days how to install rar files on to my Verizon XV6900 vogue with WM6.1. I am attaching one of the files I am tring to install, for general help. I can seem to install in activesync, from withing sorage card, etc.
Thanks, in advance
Dave,
Unless you have pocket Rar installed on you device you cant install as its zipped. Download a free RAR extractor on your PC, unpack it and you will find your CAB or files inside...... simply copy them/it to your PPC and voila
pocket rar is installed
I did zip the file to upload it, the forum would not accpt it in rar form. When I put the rar on my device ((XV6900 vogue verizon) WM6.1 ROM 3.14.605.1), I was able to unpack it but there was no cab. I upoaded it tthinking somebody would check the contents and help me out.

Sorry about that Dave, i mis-understood what you were trying to do It would help me if u gave me the link where you got the rar file as it would probably contain instructions as to where on ur device you need to copy the unzipped files to (like /windows etc). Let me know where you got the rar file from.
cant find original thread I d/l from
It was from rstoyguy
All I was basicall looking for for my phone was the Diamond Theme and the diamond dialer. I 'm pretty new to modifying my phones. I did flash the rom to the magicflo but went back. Is there a way to just THEME my current rom?

extract NBH from EXE

Hello,
I want to (re)flash WM6.1 from microSD, but can´t find a nbh. Flashing in softmode will hang up and freezing my screen on the tricolour.
Extracting from RUU_Kaiser_HTC_GER_3.28.407.0_radio_sign_25.83.40.02_1.65.16.25_Ship.zip
will create an exe-File.
Any chance to get out a kaiserimg.nbh from the exe or any link to a german WM6.1 Rom /NBH?
Regards
Check the Kaiser Wiki instead of starting a new thread. There're repositories for many versions of OEM ROM.
Of cause I´ve done this before. But the german ROMs I´m looking for will be extracted as exe-files, I couldn´t find the necessary hints.
Try open the exe using Winzip. You might see the NBH there.
Edit: I tried running the Kaiser_HTC_ASIA_HK_WWE_3.34.721.2.exe I have, it installs there should be folder containing RUU_Signed.nbh (your temp file folder?). Use this file, rename as KAISIMG.nbh and flash using SD method.
Get Uniextract, then right-click on this installshield wizard and select "Uniextract to subdir" .
Uniextract can do thousands of formats. It's nice program lol.

copy opengl .dll's from device?

Hi,
To link a gl app I need the respective .lib's for
libEGL.dll
libGLES_CM.dll
libGLESv1_CM.dll
libGLESv2.dll
I know how to turn these into libs once I've extracted the files, but here lies the problem.
when I try to copy them from the windows directory I get the message
"access is denied"
Anyone know how to grab these files from the device?
Jim
they are modules. so not easy to get out of a live rom..
it is easier to extract them from a dumped rom
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I dumped the ROM, extracted the .dll's and turned them into libs. I wanted to post them here so other dev's can use them.
headers are available from khronos group.
I've dumped the openVG as this is part of the EGL package.
Jim
dumping the rom
Hi dattrax,
can you describe how you dumped the rom and extracted the dll's.
I need to do the same thing.
Thanks
