Hotmail - General Topics

Is there a way to disable Hotmail within the Wizard / WM5.
I am angry at the fact it downloaded all my messages - without asking me. Now I want them gone and not to come back.
I do not want it ever to check my hotmail..... I do that on the web.
Anyone?

I think you can do that through...
Start > Settings > MSN Options > [Switch User] > *Yes*
Now next time you'd want to MSN / user Hotmail, you'll have to sign in again - this will also clear your current Hotmail e-mail on the device. (Hotmail should not even be an option under Menu > Switch Accounts anymore)
If you want to JUST disable Hotmail, and not MSN - no idea Haven't tried anything like that.

Would they not just come back though when I resign in?

yep - hence what I pointed out... don't sign into MSN
If you want to disable *just* Hotmail; no idea how to.
Personally I don't use MSN - most of the people I know are available through IRC, so I use PocketIRC

Well, I've told it not to download *new* ones and wiped my inbox into an archive...
Stupid GPRS charges...

Pop Email is deleted upon reconnect

I have scoured the forums and found the fix for my gmail retrieval, but nothing for my pop3 acct. What do I need to do to keep my pop3 email on my device after I connect/reconnect? It deletes the recently checked mail after each update...
Somebody help please!
Solved!!! Problem was with my outlook deleting msgs off my pop server dispite all the boxes checked otherwise.
My PocketPC checks POP3 email every 15 minutes. I have a desktop machine that checks the same POP3 email every 10 minutes. When the desktop checks the mail, it removes it from the POP3 server. When it's retrieved from the PocketPC, it leaves the mail on the server.
If I'm away from my office for an extended period, I'll shut down my desktop email. That way it doesn't get deleted from the server and I can see it on the PocketPC.
Is this related to what you are doing?
Two Things to check:
1st - are you using the recent mode with Gmail? Basically, type in 'recent:[email protected]' instead of just '[email protected]' for your user name.
2nd - There are some config options under the advanced settings link in the email account edit feature. I don't have my phone in front of me right now, but try to edit your gmail account, and look for the blue hyper link that says advanced settings. It has some "delete options" in it.
I'm pretty sure that adding recent: will solve your problem, it did for me.

Cannot Setup Gmail and MSN on Pocket Email

I just flashed the
OTP v7.6 Biggy with phonecanvas and I LOVE IT!
However, I am trying to setup @gmail it goes to automatic setup and finishes and it does not work. I changed where it automatically had put smtp in the incoming server and it still does not work. I cant even set it up manually.
Sam thing with my @msn email account used to setup automatically in original Wing ROM but now it only gives me a link to browse to check my email on the pocket browser (in this case Opera Mini).
Any solution?
Ok, I was able to fix the gmail problem, in case anyone else has an issue:
Just start off by pretending you dont have gmail but have gggmail like i did. in the first step if your email is
[email protected]gmail.com for instance just type in
[email protected]gggmail.com
then the stupid software will give you the option not to search for automatic setting that is screwing up the email (probably Gmail doing it on purpose since the Andriod is out).
I have not tried the msn yet but I will.
MODs please feel free to delete this thread!
Ok, Gmail is fixed.
MSN does NOT work anymore I guess from what I understand (I am not a paying member so I dont get pop3, I dont know how I was getting it before)
Yahoo however is giving away free POP3 in certain countries, and the new email address is @ymail.com, so just go to this site: http://uk.yahoo.com/ and then sign up for a new account in UK and later chnage your location to US. he POP3 is in the email section under options, pop and forwarding. Good luck!
for MSN i'm sure you could always install windows live, though that will eat up another 3mb of precious memory on the phone
Thanks!
Thanks. My Gmail kept defaulting to imap - even though I changed it back to POP on the server level and it was driving me nuts. That is a pretty stupid move on WinMobile's part to not give us the "manual" configuration option up front.

Removing Messenger contacts from Contacts/All People Tab

Ok so I've been doing a lot of searching but can’t seem to find the answer.
When I set up Windows Live I accidently said yes to having my contacts list in my phone's contact list.
I didn't want this so I was going through the list manually and deleting them one by one. Little did I know I was also deleting them from my MSN My fault, I know, I'm an idiot! I have had the phone for about a month now and had it set so the MSN contacts were not in the contacts list. I flashed a new ROM and that was why I had to set it up again s I didn't realize that deleting these would have any effect on anything else.
So now I'm trying to remove the MSN contacts from the phone contacts but I can't seem to work out how. In the Windows Live "Options" I can see under #2 Sync options, there is an option to "Store Windows Live contacts in your mobile phones contact list" but I'm not able to select it to change the settings.
Anyone able to assist? I'm sure it's something simple that I’ve missed but I can't seem to work it out
Thanks in advance..
Delete your hotmail account from the phone. Go back and set up hotmail again and this time do not check "add my hotmail contacts to my adress book" option. It will not say it exactly like that but you will know what i am talking about. I had to hard reset mine to get rid of 100s of email adresses in my phone contact book. Little did i know
if you find that windows live mobile wont let you remove email contacts from your phone contacts list because the check box is greyed out, and you cant seem to delete your email account from your phone, go to windows live > menu > account options > switch windows live ID > Yes
now just re-setup with the same hotmail account details and dont check-the contacts sync boxes this time. Worked for me. so happy now.

Thanks man, I ended up working it out. I just cleared the Windows Live account and started over again. Something I should have realized to do before posting
Thanks for a tip, it helps me a lot
No need to re-install it again

mail : not enough competitors !!

Hi everybody.
I juste want to say that I'm not able to find a mail client for my HTC.
There is almoust no competitors on this market :
Built-in app : no backup. each hard reset = reconfigure every account
FlexMail : too slow
Profimail : not that easy to configure
QMail : Old
and that's alll.
Does someone here can tell me if there is somewhere a valuable mail client for windows mobile ?
Thank you
Hmmm .... how did you manage to miss www.mail2web.com? With these you can use the built-in Outlook and it works a treat.
They are not free but they are cheap and its a full Exchange client (if you wish it to be). I use them through my own domain and think they are excellent. My sent mails even get sent out as *@stuza.com.
And as I access them through my own domain (*.stuza.com) i can even get to its web front end through many restricted corporate firewalls!
Thank you.
I'm afraid not to have completly undersood you ...
I know Mail2web, I used to use it as a web client when I couldn't use Pocket Outlook in my phone (because no pop or imap data plan).
Now, I can use my multiple imap account in whatever mail client (built in pocket outlook, flexmail, etc.).
But I often Hard reset or flash my rom, and the Poicket outlook doesn't allow a simple settings export : each time, I have to configure my 5 accounts and its tedious.
The other ones allow a setting export, but they are tedious to USE.
so, I wonder why there is not other mail client : I think the market is here ; isn't it?
ps : sorry for my english, I'm french ;-)
Pocket Outlook is built into ALL WinMob devices afaik.
Click -
Start menu
- Messaging
then inside messaging click
- Setup E-Mail
now enter your details and WinMob should auto-detect all the Mail2Web settings for you
If you need to re-enter all your details every time you reboot then it sounds like you have a more serious issue that someone else might be able to help you with?
- I have, say, 5 imap accounts : 3 gmail, 2 other provider mail.
Well
- I know, and use, Pocket Outlook. and for the momentt, I think it's the most intuitive mail client.
BUT : when I do a Hard Reset, my 5 accounts are no more here, an that's normal : I have done a Hard Reset.
In FlexMail, for exemple, I can easilly recall my settings because there is a backup solution. I just have to reinstall FlexMail, end recover all my 5 accounts without a tedious stylus manual configuration for each.
In the buit-in Pocket Outlook, Ihave to re-configure each account manually. That's why I'd prefer to use a third party app, or find a way to backup my mail account.
I dont see the interest of use mail2web as I can access my mails without ... Bt perhaps I miss someting ?
Tnah you for your help.

Thats the real problem here. If this didn't happen I suspect you would be happy with Outlook. It might be better to start a new thread or change the tittle of this one to "Reboot wipes mail settings" and hopefully someone can help you fix this?
Reboot wipes mail settings
Yes that's the real problem.
At the same time, my comment about the lack of competition in this area remains.
Why QMAIL3 (last release May 13 2009) is old ?
i was just thinking about this same thing the other day.... there are replacements for just about every aspect of the phone... explorer, browser, multimedia, contact management, but mail is the least touched... i was thinking i would prefer a more finger friendly version would be nice... something along the lines of icontact for email
i have multiple accounts too and its a pain setting up after each new ROM
Can somebody just send an email to MS to request them to add the 'export settings' feature on poutlook. I think it's the best solution say that in the future release of WM65 this become a 'build-in' function. And, seems much easier for them to do it, I just remember eversince the earliest 'outlook express', MS has this feature built-in their desktop mail client.
I'm just afraid of my English not good enough to express this in a convincible way to those guys in MS.
Update: I just have sent the link of this page to MS Outlook Mobile Team, Hope they can pay some attention to this 'customer feedback'.

[Q] How to sync emails from PC with Android phone (Galaxy S)?

Hey folks,
I'm sorry this is probably a n00b question but I would like to sync my emails from my PC with my phone.
On the PC I use thunderbird to download all emails (got like 6 email accounts) to the pc and delete them from the server immidiately. (I've had accounts beeing hacked in the past because I left password emails etc in my inbox, so I started to delete them from server instead of leaving them on for more security - so I can't just "download them again" from the phone - I will need to sync the phone with the data from the PC. I could switch my email client program off course if thats needed, but I rather not let the messages lay somewhere online.
Can someone maybe explain to me how that would work or give me a link or smth?
It would be perfect if it would work both sides: Either I sync the phone with the PC or the PC with the phone, or a real sync where just the new emails get exchanged. (On the same time I'd also get this to work for my laptop but phone more important now since i got it heh)
I hope someone can help me.
you can't sync with EVERY email client..
it does sync with outlook/OE... I don't know about thunderbird tho. What you CAN try to do is change the settings to never delete emails from your server when downloaded to your computer and then sync so that when you delete them from your phone they'd be deleted from the server.
get my drift?
hmm well im used to thunderbird, but i dont have to keep using it necessarily. I'd change if it makes this whole syncing easier. Its been bugging me for a while that I didnt have my emails on my laptop but now i also need em on the phone.. so I wanna finally get this to work.
The method you described wouldnt work if I somehow download the emails to the phone first instead of the pc, it would work like u described, but if I'd rather work it in both ways, a real "sync".
With outlook you could do this yea?
Try using Gmail or Windows Live mail, its more compatabile with most wireless. Goto m.live.com or Gmail
well, if you use gmail you can easily keep it on both your computer and your phone and it would sync both ways.
Get a gmail account. Then forward all your email accounts to the gmail account. You can also set the gmail account to send out as one of the other accounts.
Setup the gmail account as an imap client in thunderbird or outlook. Create a folder under the inappropriate account named old emails or whatever. Move the emails stored in your local folders to the folder setup under the imap account (you can do it directly to the inbox if you prefer).
Setup gmail on your mobile device.
Say thanks.

Cleaner Explanation.
1) Create a Gmail account at Gmail.com (or skip this step if you already have one).
2) Log into the web versions of each of your email accounts. Set the account to forward all emails to the new gmail account address (typically these settings are found under the settings or Options menu somewhere on the page). If you would like to continue to use these accounts you can either:
a) Give Gmail permission to send emails as all the accounts or one in particular. (Note once in the mobile apps, you cannot choose different sender addresses, only the default one. You can however change from each address on the web interface). b) Set a forwarder and then specify to leave a message on the server.
3) Setup the gmail account you created as an IMAP account (use IMAP not SMTP) in thunderbird or Outlook.
a) You can find the Imap settings for desktop clients here.
4) Once the initial sync is complete, simply drag and drop the emails from the old inbox to the Gmail account's inbox (listed in a tree menu under the IMAP.Gmail.Com listing.
5) You can now set up this email address as a SMTP or IMAP (IMAP keeps the emails on the server. This is a better idea in some cases as you have exact copies of emails on all devices you set them up as.
6) Say thanks
You can also manually do this for each email account you have, but that would take much longer and some companies do not allow or simply haven't moved to using IMAP yet (freaky right?).
Using the gmail way, you have all your emails from all your accounts plus the wonders of google. This is the easiest way to do it I can think of.
I hope my explanation is clean and clear.
thanks for the detailed explanation I guess I'll do it that way.
But the downside that you have to keep the mails on the server still stays this way. I'd really love the option to do a real sync how you expect a sync to be but I guess thats complicated or doesnt work?
I mean like.. when I'm at home .. I download the mails from my desktop pc over usb or wlan. Then I download new emails while I'm travelling or smth - and when I get back home I sync my desktop with the phone emails.
This must work somehow? I'd really hate to have to leave my emails on the server since I got bad experience with this.
I guess I'm just beeing paranoid - but I'm also perfectionist heh, so I'd love to try n get it going "the perfect way" - aka a real offline sync without usage of any server storage. (unless you count my desktop as a server..)
If you setup the system to use smtp on the phone it will dowbload the email, other than that i would suggest using a very good password.
