why isnt there a forum dedicated to the xda atom yet when its already been released?

Perhapse because it is not actually a HTC device?

I thought it was xda developers not htc developers...

I don't think that many people have the device to justify having a forum perhaps.
It's only officially released in a limited number of countries around the world.
I had the pleasure of playing around with my mates Atom- two things that put me right off were 1) the screen contrast- absolutely terrible and 2) considering it has 128MB memory, it is relatively slow and sluggish. Would definitely like to these things fix in the next ROM upgrade.

I just got my Atom and I can honestly say it isn't bad.
The Screen contrast is completely adjustable and it seems better than my XDA II.
Also it is slow however, it gets a lot faster when you remove all the crap out of startup.
Only been using it for a short period but I'm currently happy with it.

How do you adjust the contrast? I only played around with it for about 20 mins. Like I said it belongs to a mate.

i actually considered that its a quanta device and not htc but as the other poster said, i think the XDA part of the Atom has more weight than its company of origin.
i dont think its because its only been released in a few countries either.a forum dedicated to the universal was up even before it was released if i remember correctly.
so, again i ask the question: why isnt there a dedicated forum to the XDA atom?[/quote]

But there are going to far less of these devices than HTC products since O2 Asia is the only carrier of it. The Universal was/is available in many variants by many carriers hence more devices being sold.
All the better if they do have a forum.

but remember, china is the most populous country in the world!!!

My 2 cents,
Simple fact is this forum is for people with these devices to communciate.
People with XDA Atoms will continue using the forum to communicate regardless of whether there is separate forum for it
A separate forum will make it easier to post in the correct location and stop clogging up the General Discussion, so regardless of who makes it and where it is available, it really doens't make sense not to have a separate forum for it.
Cam

I had the Atom for about a week now. The thing looks stunning but performs quite poor. The memory is is a big corncern for me as it's just too low, I've only got 6 Megs left in the storage memory and I haven't loaded half the programs from my Jam yet.
I'm a bit lost and don't know what to do with my Atom because I've also got the K-Jam on upgrade for £30 and it perform much better but just very bulky and not as good looking. I brought the Atom from Expansys and have about 21 days return policy on it.
I really want to keep it but it's such a buggy thing for £552!!

I would suggest not to go in for the k-jam instead of the atom as its WM5 which is the problem (slow) I had the k-jam for 10 days, it was so damn slow I had to get rid of it...I mean if I use the device without installing any other software (WM5 compatible) its fine but as soon as I put 1 or 2 softs its lagged terribly, so stick with the atom & wait for a ROM update...
Also try removing the start up program like the user mentioned above...

There are also registry Hacks to make WM5 faster.

Atom & Dopod 818 Pro (Prophet) are hot machines in Hong Kong market and users are actively arguing about their pros and cons.
However, seems like a new ROM for Atom has been release but only available through service center, even not seen in seeo2.com (official O2 Asian support page). The ROM version is 20051223B2WWE. The general response is the ROM make the machine much much faster and the radio (not FM radio) signal is improved as well. I don't have the machine so cannot verify.
For 818 Pro, we Hong Kong people hearing more and more negative feedback... seems like the bad things raise slowly to the surface, like bubbles in thick oil. On the other hand, a side track news: Dopod is not going to release ROM upgrade as fast as before because so many people do ROM hack. It's really bad news and make me think twice before going for 818 Pro. :x
Not considering the bad reputation and performance during Atom's initial launch, seems like Atom with new ROM patch defeat 818 Pro a little bit... :?:
For me, I have stopped and just wait, to see which device will have a dedicated forum here... if there is no resource and feedback from you guys and play with the device together, no matter how well the device, it's just a consumer gimmick and not compariable to even magician

I have the Atom for the past 3 weeks and I guess I am not overly satisfied with the product,
even though this is my first PPC , I am a regular reader of all forums and have been following all product launches ,
one fo the main reasons for me to go in for the Atom was WM 2005
but it seems the product as such has some HW issues especially in the sound front ,and Data Transfer rate ,
The speakes are just too bad for what is supposed to be a media center PPC and the USB Active Sync Data Transfer rate is at best OK,
I do not know how a ROM upgrade will improve poor speaker quality and the Data Transfer speed, I guess I will have to just grin and bear it
I will be doing the ROM upgrade next week , will give my updates once I observe the perfomance of the Atom after the upgrade

A few more Atom gripes
Apart from the poor response time, I also find the standard alarm function does not work properly. A quick test with the alarm set for 10 minutes ahead works well, but 6am the next morning does not sound at all, until you later go into the alarm section to find out why, and then it goes off. Any ideas anyone?
Also, my Atom turns itself on accasionally for no reason. No incoming call or SMS, no alarm set, no USB or bluetooth connection, etc. It just turns on and sits there. Any ideas anyone?
Also - another poster advised removing items from start-up. How do you do this? Does it require a registry edit?
thanks,
depressed_atom_user

No registry edit to take items out of startup, done it on both 2003Se and WM5.

About to get a Touch Pro, but... (some questions)

I plan to buy a Touch pro, but I have a few concerns.
I spent hours reading the forums here, but I still would like to ask a couple of questions :
(BTW, I currently own an XDA IIi)
- the screen size : I am used to my 3.5" XDA IIi screen, and I don't know if I will really miss the size despite the improved resolution on TP. What do you think of the Touch Pro screen ? Is it OK for browsing? games?
- Windows Mobile 7 : I know it's a bit early to talk about upgrading to WM 7.0 but if I buy TP, I'll have to keep it for 3 years (just as I did with my XDAIIi). I know it's highly improbable that HTC releases an official update but what about unofficial roms here? I lived a true nightmare with my XDAIIi, which is BTW a very good PPC, but the lack of WM updates killed the device as an increasing number of applications won't run on WM2003SE.
Is it true that WM 7.0 will require multitouch screens?
- Google Android : there's a working version on Kaiser. Is there any chance Android will be ported to TP?
- Community size : I am surprised by the small community size on the Raphael forums. Well, it ain't very small but it's way smaller than Diamond's or Kaiser's for instance ! Only a few cooked ROMs (compared to Diamond again), many "chiefs" were supposed to buy the TP, but they still didn't and with the announcement of Touch HD, I'm afraid they won't ! I hope I'm wrong, though !
- Issues and bugs : I know there will be bugs, but is the device "more buggy" than the previous HTC models?
P.S. I thought about getting a Diamond but the lack of microSD and the 900 mAh battery are unacceptable for me. Moreover, the keyboard and the TV-out are certainly a plus !
I also cannot wait for Touch HD (which seems pretty decent ) simply because there are no HTC devices in my place, and my only chance to get one is during my travel to Dubai in October !

It's great, the resolution makes it look so much nicer. Don't know if I'd watch a full movie on it, then again I wouldn't watch a full movie on an iPhone, I don't like staring at sub-5-inch screens for 3 hours.
- Windows Mobile 7 : I know it's a bit early to talk about upgrading to WM 7.0 but if I buy TP, I'll have to keep it for 3 years (just as I did with my XDAIIi). Multi-touch is all in the software (I thought?), same screen hardware... But there's no way to know what it will require or support yet.
- Google Android : there's a working version on Kaiser. Is there any chance Android will be ported to TP?
I'd give it a 90% chance that eventually we'll have it happen. It's even on devices like the Blue Angel.

It's more expensive than the Diamond, it hasn't even been released on the US by ANY carrier, I wouldn't worry about the amount of developers out there... Once the prices go down with contracts here in the states you'll see a lot more. (Think of how many people in the Kaiser section bought it for $299 with AT&T)
- Issues and bugs : I know there will be bugs, but is the device "more buggy" than the previous HTC models?
Meh, I didn't see many bugs on my AT&T version at all, but the HTC ROM is slow as hell so I've been told. I'm sure ROM updates in the future will speed it up, the Sprint version looks quite fast as well.
P.S. I thought about getting a Diamond but the lack of microSD and the 900 mAh battery are unacceptable for me. Moreover, the keyboard and the TV-out are certainly a plus !
Agreed, no way 4GB fixed storage is enough (Garmin Mobile XT maps of North America is like 3.75 GB alone!)
I also cannot wait for Touch HD (which seems pretty decent ) simply because there are no HTC devices in my place, and my only chance to get one is during my travel to Dubai in October !
Keep in mind, the Touch HD won't have a keyboard... Quite a setback.
Hope I've helped, any more questions, ask away.

Well, the screen size just a compromise between size and usability. Since it's a VGA screen you will probably get almost the same screen estate as with your current PDA.
Windows 7, will probably find it's way on Touch Pro. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Multitouch is not based in software, but in Hardware. A phone either has Multitouch either doesn’t. You can't install multitouch... But again, I wouldn't worry about it. Windows 7 doesn't require Multitouch, but they support it.
Google Android will probably find its way on TP soon. If it can run on a Kaiser, it can run on a TP soon.
As for the community size, it will grow. Besides, except ROMS everything else (Themes, Apps, etc) are shared with the Diamond developers.
The device is definitely less buggy than any older HTC model. It works like a charm, right out the box. Any issue that you will face, it will be fixed with a search in the forum...
Finally (It was a lengthy post this one...), Touch HD is actually scheduled for October. So you might get lucky with your visit in Dubai...
Good luck with your choice mate... Hopefully I helped a bit.
Just a small comment about touch screens...
Multitouch screens are COMPLETELY different from single touch ones.
Multitouch requires capacitive screens (just like the Iphone)... these work like a notebook touchpad for example... You have to use your own bare fingers to use those.
Cheers

As for the HD, no keyboard is a drawback but I like the screen If I find it in Dubai (I'll be there till October, 30th), I may buy it (not sure though, it depends on the price, the initial reviews etc...)

I read somewhere it will be in November. Nonetheless, there's the Gitex electronics trade show in Dubai in late October (a great one apparently). It might be an opportunity for HTC to launch the device !

Most of the sites talk about a Christmas release. Sure Christmas is in December, but holiday period starts from early November.
I have to admit that I was a bit optimistic when mentioning October! But the pictures and videos we see reveal a product very close to production... We also have October as the month that HTC will release Touch Viva and 3G...

Suggest me a phone please?

Hi all
I looking for a UK mobile phone that does the following:
Wifi
GPS
Windows mobile
It must be as small as possible. Loading new firmware/software on is no problem. Secondhand or brand new. Open to options on the price.
What are your suggestions?
whats your budget? if you want a nice one, htc touch diamond is thin and small, probably the best if ur open on price. if you want a cheaper one, the kaiser might work although it is big. windows mobile phones generally arent small, especially the ones from htc. try looking to samsung, lg, and other companies, im not familiar so i cant provide much insight..
Samsun Omnia all the way!
I would say, forget about HTC and get yourself a SAMSUNG Omnia!
Latest HTC models, including Diamond, Kaiser, Touch Pro, Touch HD and many others have problem with GPS lag, bad or no video drivers, and many other irritating and annoying bugs!
Samsung Omnia has none of these problems!
ya thats what i would say. im dumping my diamond on ebay so if you want it, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=260336534297.
is there a huge user-based discussion board like the htc specifically for that device tho? thats what im worried about. flashing roms and other stuff wouldnt be the same without dedicated cookers.
my main question for anyone here is which one is better out of the 3: Samsung Omnia, Sony Xperia X1, or HTC Touch HD/Touch Pro?

Welcome
I would recommend you to look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446362
And you´ll see what XDA members think about the best device
My recommendation is an HTC definetly! as you will have the great support and knowledge of this great site
Once you check here: http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdachooser
According to your needs and $$ you´ll be able to decide
Good luck,
Thanks for the suggestions so far. Budget is an issue but I'd not like to restrict choice at the moment as I'd like to see what's out there that fits the bill first. Besides, mobile phone operators here often give the phones away or sell them cheaply to get your business so retail price is not always what you pay.
Any more suggestions?
if u dont have to have windows, u can try a blackberry, iphone (not recommended, overrated crap in my view), or the nokia high end ones that run symbian.

Omnia forum should serve you as a "Huge user-based discussion board", and yes there are dedicated cookers for the device
I used to have Touch pro and Touch Diamond and I can say that both of them are no match comparing to omnia, and what I can make out from reading the threads on the Touch HD forum, it has the same hardware as Touch pro, and it also has the same buggs! Meaning that it has GPS lag, crapy video performance, and probably some other things as well!
Omnia is just much more snappier, yes it has less ram, but really, comparing to the other devices it´s much quicker!
Oh and please, if you have the possibillity to test all devices for comparison please do that, don´t trust the performence tests that you can find on various sites, that is only numbers that looks good on paper, but in reality it really is not at all that good!
Just go and read in the Touch pro or Touch HD forum, search for posts about performance or GPS lag or video drivers, and you will understand what I mean!
Also there are several youtube videos showing the many issues these devices have!
Oh and I just have to mention that I have had about 10 different HTC devices so far over the years, and almost all of them has been just as crappy! The only HTC device that I still own, and that actually outperforms the new HTC devices that are sold today is the good old Universal!
Anyway, good luck with your decision and let us know if you have any more questions! Would be good to know what you decide in the end, and why you decided for that particular device! Hope to hear from you soon!
Speaking to my current provider O2, I can get either an XDA ignito or a Samsung Pixon, both on very good tariffs. Both have wifi, the Samsung seems to have a great camera (8MegaPixel) but it's the phone, GPS and WiFi I shall use the most.
Any comments to help me choose between these 2?
i am going to point out the obvious in case someone else stumbles over this thread, the Ignito is a re-badged Touch Diamond Personally i have no observations to make as i have been happy with my HTC devices so far.
Finances prevent me from looking into the latest and greatest, my Trinity does all i need of it. If i want a digital camera i have a pocket sized Fuji, and mobile music is catered for by an iPod Classic, 120Gb, so no shortage of music there.

HTC Touch Pro 2 OR NOKIA N97

Dear Experts,
I have a question regarding the 2 models HTC Touch Pro 2 & NOKIA N97
What will be the best mobile between the above 2 options taking in consideration that i don't care about the nature of the operating system, however what i care about is the business use, stability, robustness & the most important is that it can sync with my outlook contacts, calendar and other office documents.
Awaiting for your reply ASAP

Talal
Touch Pro 2 definitely
You shouldn't even compare!.
Touch Pro 2 is an enterprise device where as N series is in the Entertainment segment.
Dear Friends,
Thanks for your advice, and I will be waiting for the official release in order to buy it.
Last but not least about HTC, the company used to produce a new model with some new features or enhancements every few months which will effect the existing model or models.
Do you consider that HTC TP2 will sustain at least for 2 years and what about the rumor of the HTC touch pro 3

I am in the midst of the same decision , you say you don't care about the OS, but I think that that is the entire basis of the decision. Symbian or Windows Mobile. In it' s original pre-release specs the N97 would blow the TP II ( also pre-release specs ) away, but as it gets closer to release , Nokia is really stepping down the specs.
N97 cpu -434Mhz TP II- 528Mhz
N97 Ram-128 Mb TP II- 288 Mb
N97 Internal storage 32Gb TP II 512 Mb
I think it all comes down to which OS you think you can get along with the most.
I fear the advice where will be as biased as if you find a nokiaDeveloper forum and ask there
people who don't pref touch pro 2 would not be likely to spend that much time in this forum

You answered your own question there mate.
I used to have an N80, so I know the N-Series are good. But my friend has an N96 and to be honest, I was dissapointed when I played with it.
I predict, as Denco has said, that the N97 won't be all that is hyped up to be and that the specs might be a bit exaggerated at the moment.
Go for the TP2. It will have an official WM6.5 ROM released for it in October and it's power and features are that of what other PocketPC manufacturers are going to be trying to match for the next year or so...

More than agree
Go to a Volvo dealer and ask wich is better between Ford and Volvo...
NOKIA N97
No questions asked. This coming from a die hard fan of htc phones. Current TP owner. WinMo is awesome but is not and will not be a good OS for some time.
Respectfully
I would never think on changing WM for Symbian or any other, at least by now...perhaps in the future Android could be a good option...
There will always be a newer model avail every year or so. If you hold off on buying because of that you'll spend your life waiting for the next model. I say go with the TP2 for one simple reason......HTC!
Second the TP2 as the hot device out now...check out the excitement over in the Rhodium forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=488
I think you should go for neither, either wait for the Palm Pre if they can release it anytime soon or the new iphone i would assume both are about a month or so away. If you cant wait then go for the N97 for the simple fact that Nokia innovate and progress with their products, where as HTC create one product then put limitations on the hardware and then unlock these limitations and then sell the same product as new product. Pretty much almost all the new features on the TP2 derive from software upgrades and not hardware upgrades.
The N97 does actually give u more hardware for your money and with the advent of the Ovi Store (once its up and running properly) you will more than likely be able to pick up software to fulfill all your needs.
I would personally wait for another manufacturer to release an android phone or a windows mobile phone and go for that instead. Check out the Samsung i7500 or some of the upcoming LG phones.
Maybe too many htc fanboys here to give an unbiased opinion.
The symbian operating system will be totally limited to what it will allow you to do, there is very little room for modding.... really it's just tweaking, Nokia for sure has prevented access to the system files with newer Nseries phones, so there won't really be a whole lot of that....
Blows me away seeing how much can be done with Windows Mobile as far as changing the functionality of the phone....
But the N97 is a sweet phone, and I do plan to own one!

Comparing these stats is meaningless. Diferent O/Ss will require diferent compiled exe's and diferent processors run diferent architecture which will also compile as diferent size exe's. Also, you cannot directly compare one clock speed with another unless they are the same manufacturer and based on the same architecture.
The only way to compare across such diferent devices would be in every day use i.e. open a word document, edit it and save it (see how laggy it is/isn't) or show a video and see how well it shows etc...
If you want outlook syncing then nothing that im aware of beats WinMob but, what would you expect from an O/S thats by Microsoft for a MS product? I can't comment on the Nokia syncing, never used one.
edit: HTC's internal ram has always sucked (as have many WinMob devices) instead, relying on expansion SD/Mini-SD. If you need such great storage, the best way I know of at the moment is a 16gig Omnia with a 16gig card in it (total 32gig).
imho...
Office integration on Symbian is much better these days. Though you may need to upgrade the Office software included to get fuller functioning.
One thing that still annoys me on Symbian, is lack of support for Outlook Catagories. I just don't understand why they don't just add it...
If you like to play and tweak OS etc. the go HTC.
If you like Social Networking stuff, Go Nokia. they are really making a big push on services support in this area. Good widgets for Home Screen etc.
If you want a decent camera/video recording go Nokia.
If you like high res screen, for HTC.
On a similar rant. I just don't understand why HTC can't just put decent camera hardware on thier devices...
Also, on the warranty side, Nokia are excellent (at least in the UK). You get 2 years. Any trouble, just pop into your local Nokia Repair Shop. They also tend to be geared towards actually getting repairs done for a 'reasonable' cost if it's not a warranty issue, with Parts being readily available.
This was not the case with HTC (a year or 2 back). May have improved now.
There is a grid by Steve Litchfield (allaboutsymbian, so slightly biased...) which I find quite fun.
It's at : http://3lib.ukonline.co.uk/grid.htm
Me, I think I'm pinning hopes on the TG01 at the moment. But getting frustrated that I don't see a real release date/price. Might be tempted by the Omnia HD or N97.
Hope that's helpful.

Same here, thats why my current is an Omnia I900 and its, not needed, replacement which arrives Friday is a Acer M900 - both 5meg cameras.
Dont hold your breath on the TG01. They just announced the good news, its processor is being upgraded to 1.3ghz, the bad news is that its not even going into Sampling until the end of the year. Phones reaching the shelves were scheduled for "sometime early next year" ... dont forget the inevitable delays
Hard to pick as I'm pretty unimpressed by both the N97 and the TP2 and wouldn't even think of getting either. If Windows Mobile, then the new Toshi phones - particularly the announced one with the capacitive creen - OR the Samsung Omnia HD (but that's Symbian).
If you ABSOLUTELY must to pick from between these two models, get the TP2. Nevertheless, to get a decent multimedia / camera phone, I also recommend getting a cheap, second-hand Nokia N95. Or, if you want gaming, an iPhone 3G or an iPod Touch 2G. The best of the two (three) worlds.

Dont hold your breath on the TG01. They just announced the good news, its processor is being upgraded to 1.3ghz, the bad news is that its not even going into Sampling until the end of the year. Phones reaching the shelves were scheduled for "sometime early next year" ... dont forget the inevitable delays

I read about that, but I thought it meant that there would 'also' be a faster version coming later with current release plans for June/July. Did not think it was 'instead of'. What's Toshiba playing at? If it's true, then I'm guessing they are still having some problems with it and decided to postpone...
Can someone point to something definate regarding the delay ?
Sorry to go off topic.

Please Urgent Quick Advice needed

Im on orange and in my upgrade period. I was going to go to another network but i got a deal from Orange.
Please can you help urgently with what you guys would recommend.
Last week i went for the Blackberry 8900 Curve but i am used to touchscreens and told orange who advised i could have the below phones. Also i wanted the SE Xperia X1 but was told that this was "never" released on Orange due to not passing various tests and that they would highly recommend against it. I see on here that the new Xperia X2 is soon to be out, when that is i dont know and if it will be a normal non buggy functional phone.
Nokia E71 - not touchscreen though
Blackberry 8900 Curve - Not touchscreen, not 3G, 150 sms storage limit
HTC Hero
HTC Touch (apparently cant have the pro version??)
HTC Touch HD
Samsung Omni HD i8910HD - OLED screen doesnt last long??
Nokia 97
Toshiba TG01 - Review doesnt have much favour for it at www.techradar.com , phone is also quite big
Can you guys advise cos it will be a 24 month contract and i rfeally dont want a handset that will be a problem for all that time.
I have used previously the SE P910i/P990i and also the HTC tytn 2.
I liked the P910i thought it was slow and then i came across the P990i and was unhappy with its sluggish performance, buggy software, and constant problems inc bluetooth not wanting to work with all other handsets. I liked the SE P Series phones as they backed up my contacts/sms etc onto a pc so if i ever losty the phone i could retrieve it and as well as that being able to do a lot more with them than a normal phone ie programs and ability to save unlimited (as far as i could tell) Sms/Mms etc.
The Tytn 2 would have been ok but it really peeved me off a lot of the t, ususally from the touch screen not feeling my touch lol. ALso a key thing for me, it didnt backup the phone contacts or sms.
PLease could you guys tell me what is a good phone to get and also of any other recommendations as i have tried an dtried to look on goog;e and reviews etc but it seems i keep getting the wrong info or if it is right i get more negative reviews than positive. Its really frustrating me now.
I would like the following functions:
Touchscreen
Backup to pc of phonebook contacts/Sms/Mms
Ability to be able to save unlimited Phonebook numbers and Sms
Ability to be used as a satnav using the Oraneg (UK) nav software or possible other co
Preferable to have 3G capability
Intuitive GUI
Least amount of headache so no buggy software or not doing as told lol or real slow performance
I will use as a media device but as a bsuiness pda type when i can start a business.
I need to know in the next asap i had to tell them today but they have been pushed to tommorow.
Please help and if you need any more info please do ask. As far as i recall i think i have covered it all.
Thanks
Welcome to forums
I would go for Touch Pro 2, and in second place I´ll chose Tosh TG01
Uhh..hello Hero.
although this isnt completely relavent to your post
u say u want a reliable phone as you dont want a problem phone for 24 months
theres a clause in orange contracts thats states if you have 3 faults the same during ur contract then thy will offer to give you a different handset
it takes a while too argue but it works
after sending me faulty samsung omnias that kept failing (handset lockups) i told them i wouldr prefer a different phone as id rater not have a 4th faulty phone
one guy told me this isnt in the rules isaid id take it up with another department they said it is in the rules but they logged my three handset locjups as keyboard failures. so there fore i wasnt entitled to a ifferent handset
after only three days of constant *****ing they finally told me theyd send my a touch hd
the moral to the story, dont be scared to ***** and moan
After playing with my wife's HTC Magic, I would happily recommend the HTC Hero. Capacitive touchscreen, responsive OS, plenty of apps for download, "proper" satnav through CoPilot Live and decent location services.
If you're set on sticking with WinMo then the Toshiba TG01 isn't bad at all. Yes it is quite large compared to some handsets, but the raw speed is noticeable in general app use and the screensize would make satnav a joy.
Another one to consider is the Samsung Omnia B7610 (Louvre). Think of it as a Samsung version of the Touch Pro 2.

Thnaks for the welcome and info.
Any reason for the touch pro over the TG01? ALthough i was put off by the review of the TG01.
Also i dont think they will let me have the touch pro as its on the orange business section.
What is the difference between toun n the pro version? Just software?
Thanks again

Lol Thanks
Pilot -
Thanks ref the isnurance advice.
I have been down this route and to say i was talking to brick walls or that getting water out of a stone would probably be near the mark lol.
Orange were adamant i didnt have a problem with my SE P990i and also didnt tell me about the 3 strike rule either.
I was a good boy and didnt ask for a different moidel for about 18 months. The phone would just trun the backlight on fo rno reason on and off, the bluetooth decided it didnt like lg phones etc, it would do soo many things that would peeve me off and to think that my old trusty P910i was thought of as slow, man that was like a Pebtium 4 PC compared to the lowly P2 status of the P990i.
Yeah, basically one day after having lost my cool a few times with orange i got fed up and asked for a different model phone (after like the 5th replacement and all the palaava to get it flashed with backup etc taking an hour each time or so as well as the time wasted and onconvenience. They wouldnt do it cos they then aftyer 18 months said i have to have had 3 faults with it. I said wtf, howmany times have i rang you, how many replacement have i had, they then said no actually you need to have reported the same fault 3 times and i said wtf again - i said i have had the same faultS for 18 months with at least 5 handsets fi the same model but they said well... it depends what WE have logged on our system and wouldnt you believe it they had different logged faults for each scenario. So i said send a new P990i and iw ill show fault on bluetoothe again, so they did and i proved it again an dthen again. SO 3 times and each of these times ie 5 before and twice later they tried to charge me 30 pounds as per conditions through my insurance with them. The cheeky so and so's. I told them 2 year sony gurantee they said no, rang sony with them on the line, they shutup but then said i had to deal with sony direct, referred them to consumer law which apparently they dont know anything about, so i reffered them to their lawers to ask such questions, each tikme i had to go through this ****e and they each time pretended they had no idea what i was going on about.
Anyway, i have only claimed once in like 13 years for a mobile phone through orange.
£5 x 12 = 60
£60 x 12.5 = £735 the bsterds
Thnaks pilot, i wish i had joined this site like a coupole of years ago man, i did se it but i thought no point, could have saved lots of headache lol with your advice then.
Thanks pilot
sorry about the spelling mistakes, its late n cant be asked.

Main reason are 2:
1. It has hardware keyboard, for me is a must
2. Is HTC build so it will have better support on this site

Help in Buying new Phone.

Hi Guys.
I need help in buying a new phone. I am using a Hyundai A 200 with winmo 5 and i have'nt had any problems with it except for its massive size and low battery life. I wanna go for a new smartphone so after a long research and review reading decided to go either with HTC, Samsung and Motorola. The devices i was satisfied with were HTC HD2, Samsung I8000 OMNIA 2 and Motorola Milestone (DROID).
Price wise HTC HD2 - 28k, Samsung Omnia 2 - 28k and Moto Milestone - 27.5k [Am from India].
A few days ago i visited a mobile shop for a hands on approach to clear my doubts and finally decide. I Liked all the three devices but obviously sided with the HTC HD2. Things that actually blowed my brains were the sheer screen size, responsiveness, capacitive touch screen, 1Ghz Processor & SENSE... Though the Touchwiz interface of Samsung and Android Of Moto were Good but HTC Hd2 was just awesome. It was when i came home and started reading reviews of HD2 in-depth that i realized its camera had a pinkish hue, the device hung up (getting up from sleep mode) etc, that was disappointing.
I dont wanna spend 34k and end up with a laggy phone. I also read that the codec support in OMNIA 2 was way better than in HTC HD2 (not and issue cos I can always convert it to suppored formats ). The guy from the mobile shop told me android sucked esp since file transfers over bluetooth were'nt possible (but later i read that rooting made that possible), and my friends told me that Applications couldn be installed on the SD card in android but i read in the forums yesterday that an app "app2sd" or something similar made this possible. I am open to both Win Mo and Android.
So now am really confused I want to know if the HTC HD2 has these flaws and if custom ROM's covered these flaws? Should I go for HTC or SAMSUNG or MOTO? Which one is really worth the money?
Am gonna use the device for reading e-books & lotsa documents (esp Word and excel files), listen to music and watch a few videos, Gaming (occasionally), as a portable camera and video recorder (shots are gonna be indoors mostly so if someone could give me the results of indoor shots it would be really appreciable) and calls, texts and mails, of course!
I also noticed the poll results for the Best HTC device of 2009 and HTC HD2 bags 46.90%
Everything is pointing toward HTC HD2, so if I get a positive outlook for owners i would go ahead with it or i have to look into the alternatives. so, Please do update me with your suggestions and views.
Also do let me know if I should consider some other device or wait for another few months if any better device is in the making
Thank you in advance.
Send me 20k U.S. and I'll hook you up with any phone you want, ha ha.
Nah, just messin.
Anyways, go with Android, man. I would be so pissed moving from Android to winmo. I like my apps too damn much. I think I'm breaking down and getting a nexus one. Even after I swore I'd never get anything without a physical keyboard again. =[
If you gonna be using Word and excel files alot then you probably want windows mobile...go with the hd2 and its suppose to be getting windows phone 7, which is suppose to be alot better than WM or thats what i hear...
Go for Leo definitely!
Thank You
Thank you so much for your suggestions and prompt replies guys....
Still i read that HD2 in plagued with software lags, Hang ups, and other random issues.... any solutions for these issues??? are they hardware related or software related??? what about the pink hue bug in the photos???

Android's still got a lota snags right or thats what i understood after reading a lot of posts in this forum. Its Open source so we can expect nothing but the best and comparing it to the i phone or winmo doesnt do it any justice... Which is the better phone for the Android platform??? I was thinking of Se Xperia X10 or HTC Legend..... But after going through XperiaX10's wishlist i have second thoughts....
The Nexus is an awesome android device...and I don't have any snags that can't be tweeked
wow all the prices are very high.. you say HD2 cost still 34K which is circa 5900HKD here in Hong Kong the HD2 goes for 24.5K (4200HKD)
Anyhow as previously some mentioned if you need to sync with your PC and with Microsoft outlook for your PIM WM is the best.
Until now I can’t really see the advantages of Android over WM and especially Motorola which has not much devices on the market therefore it will be difficult to get support even here.
For my opinion it comes down to HD2 or Samsung. Between them I would choose HD2. However again for my opinion paying 34K for device that will not get an official upgrade is far too high.. I hope you guys going to not kill me but what is the price for Iphone???

I got a cofirmation mail from my phone retailer that the price is actually 28 k and not 36 k as mentioned in their site....
Moto is out of my mind too... HTC legend and se Xperia x10 were taken up in favor of android but still HD2 kicks butt when it comes to screen size....
Iphone 3GS 32 GB is 39 k here....
Pink Hue camera issue...
i read in a lot of forums that the hdt hd2 is plagued by a pink hue in the pictures taken with its camera and few say that its a hardware issue and others say its a software issue any ideas on this???? in the support page of HTC this update [Update for HTC HD2 – Digital Picture Enhancement
