Evening all, well do i have a problem or do i have a problem! *or im just being stupid! lol*
i have an xda2 *himalaya* and was shipped with win mobile 2003
upgraded it to windows mobile 2005 *1.60c wwe* 128mb ram version
used the extended rom unlocker and the himalaya DOC tool to merge the extended rom with the storage to increase the main device storage space.
basicly messed around with it a bit and decided i wanted to hard reset it and run it nice and clean from scratch.
pressed the reset button at the bottom, with the power button, and it booted up as it was without hard resetting :?:
took the battery and sim out for a whole week to let it blank out and still no hard reset.
thought to myself, "i know! ill downgrade it to 2003 again, wiping the phone clean and then install 2005 again then it will be nice and clean*
did that and when i reformatted with 2005 the damn thing was back to when it was before i instaled 2003!!!!!!! *contacts, all installed programs, wallpapers, ringtones the lot!...
i cannot hard reset my device in any way at all!!, even totally formatting it, any ideas at all, i wanna put it back to a nice fresh install of 2005!!!
any help would be greatly appreciated ;-)
HOW TO RUN IT
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Install ExtendedROM Unlocker.
2. UNHIDE and UNLOCK your ExtendedROM.
3. Run the Hima_DOC_Tool_1.0.exe on your device.
4. Hardreset your device

Recovery possibility
You should try recovering using ROM image on SD card.
I am new to this forum, but it should be possible to save a ROM image to SD card and then use this card to load the ROM of your device.
Search for other posts on the forum about how to reprogram the ROM from SD. Good luck!
I just got an I-mate JAM with following info:
ROM version: 1010.00 WWE
ROM date: 08/18/05
Radio ver: 1013.00
Protocol: 1337.43
ExtROM ver: 1.12.550 WWE
RAM: 64MB
Flash: 64MB
Model No: PM10A
Platform: PocketPC
which ROM that i should use now?
and can I do it without USB cable? (copy ROM to MMC and install)
I'm living in Vietnam and use English
Welcome to XDA-developers!
Your ROM version is fine, however you may wish to upgrade to the latest 1.13 ROM + 1.13 Radio + BigStorage (by the way, BigStorage is just a way in which you can extend your measly 7MB of Storage to 27MB). However you will need a USB cable for the above method: I highly recommend to invest in one anyway, as you will find installing many programs onto your JAM difficult without one.
I think it is possible to upgrade with just a SD/MMC card and a SD/MMC reader for your computer, however it is considerably more complicated and you will not be able to back up your existing ROM, as you will need your computer to command your JAM during the backup process. You will probably need to merge two upgrading methods in order to get a USB cable-free process, something that no one else has done. Sorry I don't quite have the time for that yet, but maybe someone else can come to your aid!
Is there a technical reason you can't use a USB cable by the way?
EDIT: I forgot this: the reason why you cannot upgrade by just dumping a ROM onto the SD card and letting the JAM upgrade from that is that the ROM must be modified with some special, device unique data from your JAM first before your JAM will accept it. The normal ROM upgrade programs do this via USB by retrieving the device data from your JAM and then applying it to the ROM they are about to send to it. While there is a way to manually get this required data, that too requires a USB cable (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=231410).

Please avoid cross-posting, especially since this is the wrong forum. I can't help you anyway - different models of PDA can have very different ways of doing things.

Thanks for your help, i'll try and tell u the result.
I'll probably be obliged to make a hard reset because of a boot problem. WM6.0 is installed on the device, but I'm not sure that the ROM is WM6.0.
In fact, the device is a HTC Herald (purchased recently with a very low price because this is the end of the product) and I'm not sure that the ROM is WM6 because of the age of this product.
Is it possible to have a device with WM6 installed and the ROM with WM5 ?
Because, in that case, I'll get WM5 after the reset... ! And I have no disc with WM6.
If you have WM6 on installed a hard reset will not bring you back to WM5. A hard reset restores the installed ROM to its original settings. If this device has been upgraded to WM6 a hard reset will not reset your OS to WM5.
Hard reset with same OS and see if that way corrects the problem, then you will be able to see the ROM version, if not try another one
Goo luck,
That's Ok for the WM version
I got the WM6.0 after the hard reset, but I didn't remember how to do to modify the file shellres.dll.0409.mui : I can't change the read-only property.
I'm creating a new question...
use Resco Explorer (not freeware) or Total CommanderCE (freeware)
Resco Explorer :
http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/
Total CommanderCE :
http://www.ghisler.com/ce.htm
I'm using Total Commander but ...
... I cannot change the property
search the forum for shellres.dll.0409.mui, then just cab it up and install it back in to ur device
Good evening everyone - I spent all the afternoon trying to hard reset my ETEN G500+ WM5:
1) normal hard reset with hard keys: dont work (on a G500+ : power button /then/ soft reset button with the power button still pushed /then/ drop both at the same time)
2) Install hard reset .net software and run it: dont work
3) Install HardReset 1.0 and run it: dont work
4) Try to find Parameters/System/Clear Data but it doesn't exist on my WM5 (maybe deleted by an installed software, last time i did this to hard reset my G500+)
5) Try to find \Windows\ClearStorage.exe file but it doesn't exist
6) Try to leave my PPC for 1 hour without battery: only reset the hour to 12:00
=> can someone give me the ClearStorage.exe file or anything else to hard reset my Pocket PC ........ PLEASE
Done!
I finaly did find the solution (after manyxxxxxxx hours)
After the launch of the hard reset it is needed to stay pushed on the endcall button till a message comes out to enable the hard reset!
Thanks anyway for the ones who tried to find me the answer!
are you sure it works?? i've tried with mu o2 atom still only soft reset..any clue of it??
