Just got my Apache PPC-6700...a few questions though - General Topics

First off...why isnt there a seperate section for Apache on this site?
1) Is there a extended ROM/DOC tool for this device? I want full access to the system's ROM
2) Is there any way to take advantage of the device's A-GPS through navigation software such as tomtom?
3) How do you keep ev-do/wifi connected when the device is off?
4) Will the Voice Command over Bluetooth solution for the Wizard work for this device aswell?
THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ROM flashing FAQ
ROM flashing FAQ:
Q: What is a ROM?
A: A ROM contains the operating system and often additional software which can be “installed” to your mobile device. Most ROM’s provided by the chefs (people who create cutomized ROM’s) just contain the operating system and additional applications. Shipping ROM’s (ROM’s provided by the manufacturer or official providers) also contain a Radio ROM and a bootloader.
Please notice: A ROM can ONLY be flashed to a device it is made for.
Q: What is a bootloader?
A: A bootloader contains information about your device. It is quite similar to a computer’s BIOS. Official bootloader also have a security option called CID (Carrier-ID) which allows you just to install ROM’s from the provider of your phone. So, if you want to flash another ROM, you first have to turn off this security option by “CID-unlocking” your device. Check the flashing instructions below on how to do this.
Q: What is a Radio ROM?
A: The Radio ROM contains the drivers for the communication devices of your phone. Some ROM’s need one or more specific Radio ROM’s to work properly. Usually the chef, who created the ROM recommends a Radio ROM. But don’t mind, if your Radio Rom does not match, you can always flash another without needing to flash the ROM containing the Operating System (OS) again.
You can check the version of your Radio ROM when you click Start > Settings > System > Device Information or booting your device (there will appear three lines of red text. The Radio ROM version is the number after the R:.
You can download Radio ROM's at the xda-developers FTP-Server in the Uploads/Kaiser/Radio-Folder. Username and password are both 'xda'. To install it, download, extract and execute it. Then follow the instructions on your screen. Flashing a Radio does not delete any files on your device's ROM.
To choose the perfect Radio ROM for you check this thread.
Q: What means CID(-unlock)?
A: All known providers add a Carrier ID to their devices. This CID is added to prevent a device being flashed with a ROM which is not from the provider and/or not designed for your device. Be sure to brick your Kaiser, if you try to flash a ROM designed for a Wizard.
To flash other ROM's, you have to unlock the CID. If you flash another ROM on a CID-locked device, the new ROM will not work properly.
Q: What means SIM-Unlock?
A: Lots of providers want to bind their customers. So they add a SIM-Lock to their devices with only allows to use SIM-Cards using their networks. If you want to use a SIM-Card from another provider, you need to SIM-unlock your device. This can be done by contacting the phone's provider (paid & sometimes free), using a service like www.imei-check.com, or using Jockyw2001's Kaiser SIM Unlocker.
Q: Can I brick my phone by flashing a ROM?
A: To be true… YES. But if you follow all instructions, it is quite implausible that your device bricks.
Q: Does flashing affect the warranty of my device?
A: Yes, but, as long as your device can be flashed again, you will find some help at jcespi2005's thread where you can find dumped original ROMs.
Q: What can I do, if i gain problems with the ROM i flashed to my device?
A: First of all you should inform the creator by posting in the ROM's thread if the problem is not described yet. Then you should wait for an update/fix or, if the issue is a showstopper for you, try another ROM.
Q: Which is the best/fastest/... ROM?
A: Nobody can answer you this properly. There are nearly daily new ROM's here and everybody has different demands to a ROM. If you want to know, which fits best for you, read the ROM description and try the ROM('s). Only you can decide, which ROM is the best (for you).
Q: I own an AT&T Tilt. After flashing another ROM, my hardkeyboard does not work properly.
A: AT&T uses another keyboard layout than HTC. To fix this, install the tilt keyboard fix.cab. You can download it at Dutty's Kaiser CAB Collection.
Q: What is the difference between a hardreset and a softreset?
A: A softreset reboots your device. A hardreset sets all settings back to the ROM's defaults. All of your data, settings and additionally installed programs will be deleted.
Q: What are *.CAB-files and/or how do i use them?
A: Cab-files for WINCE-Devices are different to the files you may have seen (e.g. on your Windows Installation CD). They do not only contain files but also installation information similar like a MSI package. To install them, just copy the *.cab to your Mobile Device and run it from there. Most shipped ROMs delete cab-files after executing, most cooked do not. To be sure, check the registry. If HKLM\Software\apps\Microsoft Application Installer\nDynamicDelete = 0 (DWORD decimal), cab-Files will not be deleted after execution.
Q: I have questions which are not described in this FAQ. What shall i do?
A: First of all search the forum and the wiki (http://wiki.xda-developers.com). Maybe the question has been already answered. If you don't find an answer, create a new thread. As i know from experience, the community will always try to help you as soon as possible.
Introduction to ROM flashing
Introduction to ROM flashing
These are the steps on how to flash your device the first time:
1: CID-unlock your device by following the instructions at pof's HTC Kaiser Hard-SPL v1 - CID Unlock & Flash any ROM to your device (4 free)-thread
This needs to be done to flash a ROM to your device which is not created from your provider (or HTC if you own a device with HTC branding).
Additionally you may check persianowns Kaiser HardSPL Walkthrough Video.
If you are running in a white screen running HardSPL, please read this thread.
2: Search this forum for the ROM, you like to flash. Then download and, if needed, extract it.
3. Check, if your Radio-ROM matches the new ROM. If you don't find any information in the ROM's thread don't mind. You can update your Radio ROM later if you gain any problems.
4. Make sure, your devices battery status is NOT LESS than 50%.
5. Connect your device to your computer and wait until activesync/Windows Mobile Device Center recognizes it
6. Last chance to synchronize and/or backup files. All files and databases will be deleted after performing the next step!
(Optional: If you want to save your text messages and/or eMails, use a tool like DotFred's PIM Backup.)
7. Execute the .exe file you downloaded with the ROM.
8. Follow the instructions and DO NOT disconnect your device until flashing is finished.
9. Disconnect your device from your computer.
10. You need to delete the old activesync/Windows Mobile Device Center partnership, because it thinks, your device is not the same as before... and it is right ^^. Deleting an old partnership is only possible, if the device is not connected.
(Optional) If you want to change the name of your device, do that now by clicking Start > Settings > System > About > Device ID. Enter the new name of your device and click on Ok.
11. Connect your device to your computer, create a new partnership and synchronize. Then configure your device to your needs and if needed install additional software.
Congratulations! You succeed flashing your device!
Great FAQ....simple, concise, and informative

Let's see. I am already working on a more general FAQ version including info on Windows Mobile but, to be honest, a general flashing introduction would be much more complicated and i want to make it as easy as possible for newbies.
I think it would be better, if someone grabs this thing and would edit it for another device to keep it concise. If anyone is interested, just ask me via PM and i'll send you the whole including vbCode.

Got it. Thank you.
I have made this thread a sticky upon request.
I feel that this info should be ported to the wiki so that it can be found and edited by all.
At the momnet we have FAR to many sticky's in this section which makes finding anything hard to say the least.
Have a look at the BA section (in my signature) to see what I mean.
Aright, will add a general version to the wiki at the weekend.
Thank You but still have a question
Hi, I just got my HTC TyTn 2 as a present from my dad he got it from orange and got it sim unlocked for me. But I don't like it because Orange has their crappy stuff on it I wont the original stuff from HTC on it like HTC Home etc. I've got my phones detail in my signature can some one plz help i jus want to know if i can use it on my rom n radio version. Thanks.
thx
Super! Thank you!
this thread is awesome...it really help a newbie like me
the wiki is also very helpful
keep up the good work
I've been flashing ROMs for a long time. There is one thing I don't know. Does anyone know what is the reason behind stopping flashing RadioROMs at 95%? Whatever RadioROM I want to flash to my Vario III (keeping the standard T-Mobile ROM) it stops. In the RadioROM thread, there were several cases like mine. Can it be that for being able to flash another RadioROM you have to flash a custom ROM like Dutty or Schaps before flashing the Radio? I cannot recall such problems with Hermes.
Thanks for the guide. Also am not new to this I haven't done this in a while. ROM Flash went without a hitch. Keep up the good work.

So long as your phone is SIM unlocked as in you can use any sim card in it then you flash it exactly the same as described in this thread. I flashed mine no problems. Does that answer your question or are you just wanting the home screen without flashing? If so Im not sure if thats possible, I heard some people say that you can enable it on orange phones but I flashed mine before I ever tried it.
Excellent FAQ!
Now i can get my hands dirty with that so called "ROM flashing" .
noobie question, but how do i install a cab file? thanks

THIS IS A DMA WIFI HERO BUILD:
Thanks goto addisu and dzo for getting a working Wifi module and all the hard working developers who get Android ported to the various devices.
Thanks to JAC for making the base rom (JACHeroski1.6)
This pack was tested and worked before uploading!
Directions:
0) If you have a data.img delete it first!
1) Copy all files from "Required" to the root of your memory card. I recommend at-least a 512mb.
2) Launch haret and click "Run"
2.1) You will need to wait for the data.img (data store) to be created, this takes around 2 minutes. This stores your files.
3) It takes sometime to get to the setup screen. If the screen turns off, just turn it back on. It will come up.
4) Go through the intro of Android (you only do this once)
The first 3 steps get you into Android
The following gets you Wifi (Kaiser/Tilt only)
* In this build, you can now select your WiFi in the setup.
In side Android:
1) Bring the menu up
2) Goto settings
3) Go to Settings -> Wireless Controls then click "Wi-fi" wait until there is a check
4) Select your network under Wi-Fi Settings
6) Make sure you save your "calibration" file and keep a copy of it save so you can just move it to future builds.
House cleaning:
I did not develop any of this kit, I simply put the pieces together and made them available in an easy to use package.
If you need any help please leave a comment in the forum!
To setup APN you must configure it, this can be found on the Android Vogue Wiki( http://code.google.com/p/vogue-android/wikii/HowToInstall )

Well, the previous one is not for strictly a build, its more for the wikis and stuff. This thread is strictly for downloading a complete package.
cool, I'll bite!
Trying to follow the steps when i type "su"
i get "uid 10027 not allowed to su" , I did a search for this phrase and the only hit i got was the same error, but person asking was ignored.
Any ideas on how to get around this?
I'm running on a Tilt.
Thanks !!
Excellent, any mirror not from rapid or mega?, my network has the storage web filter , a FTP mirror will be great!
Thanks in advance,

So the hero zip file is a rom? and if so can you flash it to a kaiser ?
keep it up...
if its like HTC HERO, it would be nice
Thanks natalic, it works.
Some additional points:
1) Ensure you're getting the file from the rapidshare link. I tried the latest build from the project site (android-1.5-2009-08-04.zip) and I never managed to extract the calibration file
2) There's a hero build here (http://drop.io/calibrationfiles) but I would suggest to get the calibration file out 1st before trying the hero build. It seems that you wont be able to access the terminal easily from Hero builds... (Maybe it's just me)
What works and not in the Android build (non-hero):-
1) Browser works
2) Market works
3) Google Sync works
4) Google maps does not work

yes it is, android is starting to need a forum all to itself, or you can look at it like this if the android threads are builds from diff "android chefs" then it would be no different than multiple rom threads for diff chefs or diff wm versions.
Heres my working repack. Enjoy

I am now using HERO UI with a calibration file extracted from the standard build. Apps are not being downloaded... Google maps also not working... (Always Force Close)
Paradox: You forgot to mention about rebooting the phone after running getrom.txt as per your instruction in the zip file.

The Hero UI works. Its just not that fast. I can vouch for that. I dont know how he has wifi working on it. I could have sworn the driver had to be cooked into the system.img

Any hero roms

That actually have bluetooth stereo working? getting bored flashing my phone back and forward constantly now with no successes, is there any that run? Cheers.
just to add for a 32b. thanks.
It is possible to get stereo bluetooth working.
You can use the ZeroXD or MoDaCo. I feel the ZeroXD is the best one out at the moment. You need the 5.1 version. It's buried within the thread. There are also the instructions to get A2DP working.
I can confirm A2DP is working on the ZeroXD 5.1 release on a 32b device.
I located the post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4484079&postcount=222
When you follow the instructions for BT make sure you type in all lower case.

The same process can be used on a lot of Hero ROM's.. At this moment, only the 2.x Modaco's based ROM's are not working and they have this files already, so prob unknown!

I guess enables is the wrong word. I'm talking about actually enabling it to function. Yes you can turn it on but it doesn't work. There is a fix that requires using ADB to push two additional files. ZeroXD uses a script to make the bluetooth function without the use of ADB push. This same script also changes the rom to function for the myTouch or G1 depending on the option you choose.
is it just me... or do we see this question ALL THE TIME... just saying I'm about 99.9% sure if you took about 5min to look through this forum you would of found your answer...

Ok.. Not all ROM's came defected and depending on this fix.. For instance a very old version of myhero, the v0.0.8 already came with the all the files there. Is not a script, it means that this files were included on the original package. Script is that will follow some command to do a rule.

It is handled via a script because his rom is for both the dream and the sapphire platforms. You have to run the script to fix wifi and bluetooth depeding on which platform option you choose via the script. I had not seen any other rom with the bluetooth working without using adb push commands. I did notice evil released a rom late yesterday with the bt fix included.

'unflash' Android NAND back to WM?

Forgive me if this is already solved...search function cannot find proper answer to resolve problem.
I used NAND method to install Android, work good with KaiserDroid, and I can get Bluetooth to work at minimum level, but too dangerous to release as it cause random shutdown while transfer files via transfer apk I make.
I need access to WM again to study related functions, I can't find solution how to reverse flash, since RUU need activesync, and I don't have flashing box with me right now.
Can someone please tell me if I can flash from Android NAND back to WM using only USB cable/RUU? I have HTC Polaris.
Pardon my English, I from Japan, still learning many things.
I may be able to provide help as soon as camera can capture and store image, but need time, as work is in schedule.

[ROM] BraFro v6 Froyo new kernel [remote keys]

FROYO DESIRE ROMS ARE EXPERIMENTAL, AND MAY NOT BE RELIABLE
http://rapidshare.com/files/396857330/brafrorom6b.zip
This is essentially the same as DeFroST, but with no kernel mods. I'm also testing if SetCPU is really needed any more, with those mods disabled.
v6b
- Fix for a kernel bug, and corrected the driver. Remote key now works.
- Added compiler optimisations.
- (b) fixes broken wireless in 6
v5
Microphone now working in calls.
Credits go to:
Kali- and deovferreira for the kernel source
Paul @Modaco for the base rooted Nexus rom
Richardtrip for some of the config and userspace drivers I pinched from DeFroST
Me... well I'm just the chef ;-)
Working:
- Wifi N & Tethering
- GPS
- BT
- Digital compass
- Proximity sensor
- Optical pad
- Camera
- Keypad
- Headset
- Remotekey
- Touchscreen
- Vibrator
- LED
- many others
- APPS2SD
- SetCPU
- MIC
Not working:
- Ambient light sensor (works, but not calibrated)
- Camcorder (reboots the phone)
- Dock on USB
- Facebook contacts sync
Bug:
- Echo
SetCPU - Battery life
If you are experiencing battery live issues, then you should probably set up SetCPU. There are possibly still issues with the display, as some people are reporting high display battery usage. However, these steps can make a BIG difference.
1. Find SetCPU in your programs.
2. If you are asked to choose a device, choose the bottom item "Custom Frequencies..."
3. You may be asked for root access. You should allow this.
4. Tick "Auto-refresh" and "Set on Boot" and ensure CPI Governor is set to "ondemand"
5. No profiles are needed. I'd say you need a good understanding of how processes and threads work, and what the impact is to do any use here... and if that's you, then you won't be reading this guide.
6. Confirm your settings against the image (attached).
APPS2SD - Install apps on your SD card.
First of all... this is not APPS2SD. It is a new feature build into FroYo. Secondly, yes, it does work... just it hasn't been enabled in many apps yet by the developers (see the background posted below).
Some background
The Android platform now allows applications to request installation onto the device's external storage media (such as the SD card), as an alternative to installation onto the device's internal memory.
Application developers can express the preferred installation location for their applications by means of a new attribute of <manifest> in the manifest file, android:installLocation. The attribute supports three values: "internalOnly", "preferExternal", and "auto". At install time, the system checks the value of android:installLocation and installs the application .apk according to the preferred location, if possible. If the application has requested external installation, the system installs it into a private, encrypted partition in the external media. Once an application .apk is installed externally, the system lets the user change the storage location of the .apk and move it onto the device's internal memory if needed (and vice versa), through Manage Applications in the user settings.
By default, the system installs all applications onto the device's internal memory, except for those that explicitly request external installation. This means that the system will always install legacy applications onto internal memory, since they do not have access to the android:installLocation attribute. However, it is possible to configure and compile a legacy application such that it is installed internally on older versions of the platform and externally on Android 2.2 and later platforms, if necessary.
Note that requesting installation onto the device's external media is not suitable for all applications, particularly because the external media may be removable and unmounting/remounting may disrupt the user experience and system settings.
For more information about setting a preferred install location for your application, including a discussion of what types of applications should and should not request external installation, please read the App Install Location document.
Note: By default, your application will be installed on the internal storage and cannot be installed on the external storage unless the developer defines this attribute to be either "auto" or "preferExternal".

Install ALL apps to SD
However, it is possibly to force everything to be installed on external SD. I think this is the ONLY way you can do it, and then you have to move anything back to internal memory (such as widgets) which need to be there.
Using adb.exe (this is part of the android developer kit, but is also part of r5-desire-root (which you used to root your phone), available here: http://android.modaco.com/content/ht...-1-21-support/
adb will be called adb-windows adb-mac or adb-linux, depending on your os.
1. Install the ROM
2. Reboot the phone
3. Open up a cmd/bash prompt, somewhere you have access to adb
4. run: adb-<youros> shell pm setInstallLocation 2
To anyone who types "adb-<youros>"... you shouldn't be here!
This will force all apps to be installed to SD
Other options are:
adb-<youros> shell pm setInstallLocation 0
- This causes apps to be installed to their preferred location. For 99.9% of current apps, this will be internal memory, and it won't be possible to move them.
adb-<youros> shell pm setInstallLocation 1
- This causes ALL apps to be installed to internal memory. For 99.9% of current apps it won't be possible to move them.
MAKE SURE YOU MOVE YOUR WIDGETS TO INTERNAL MEMORY, OR THEY WILL DISAPPEAR

It's a completely different approact to DeFrost. This is a new kernel, hacked for the bravo board (desire), whereas richardtrip ported froyo kernel stuff back to the 2.6.29 kernel.
Basically, functionally, you're getting wifi hotspot, but we should hopefully progress further with this kernel.
Flash is in sync
JD
wipe
Is a wipe necessary when changing from DeFroST 0.6 to this?
Thanks,
Dan.

Since there is a new kernel, i wonder if its faster, more stable, or anything that is reason enough to flash it - running DeFrost 06 right now.

My understanding (which isn't great!) is that this is a less "hackish" way of getting Froyo to run on the Desire. DeFrost uses the kernel from a standard Desire ROM with the Froyo bits bolted on. This way of doing things actually uses a proper Froyo kernel thats been tweaked to run on the Desire, so should be more stable.
Is there any specific radio version this should be used with?
So the Kernel is the one posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696846 ?
2.6.32.9? So WiFi 802.11n should work?
Also i assume it does not have oc/uv? :/
