I bought my PDA from USA to use in UK. however, although it is meant to be compatible with O2, I get no phone signal . all else is fine. i am currently with the Orange network but if I need to swap to O2 in order to use this PDA, I am willing to do so.
Could anyone be kind enough to please help me out?

i shall be most grateful as it is so frustrating not being able to use it properly after having purchased it so eagerly.
xda1's are only dualband
and there is a special model for
US(900/1900) and one for EU(900/1800)
so if you want to use it in EU you need a gsm company who use 900
it's in the hardware so you cant really make a 900/1900 phone into a 900/1800 phone
thanks a lot for your reply. on the actual pda, it gives you the option of UK O2, as well as other european countries. so i am still confused as to why that is if there is the band problem. :?

How do you identify your XDA2 whether its from UK or Asian market?

The upgrade software downloaded from O2 "Xda_II_Upgrade_v16050" strictly says "This software can only be used to upgrade devices sold by O2 UK or it’s partners."
Do you think this upgrade works with my XDA2?

I see that you are from ASIA like me, and that we are supposed to get our O2 XDA 2 upgrades from site www.myxda.com HOWEVER, the ASIA site is very slow in releasing the upgrades to our XDAs.
Currently they are releasing the 1.60WWE ROM update, and this is behind OUR current version which is 1.66WWE. And i think it will still be ages before the 1.72WWE ASIA ROM will be released.
NOW, the UK O2 Site is releasing an 1.72WWE update which is VERY suitable for our XDA, no matter if we are from ASIA. HOWEVER, the difficulty you will be encountering is the lack of AUTOCONFIG program in the UK O2 update which set-up automatically for you the network settings in your area.
BUT, the O2 UK update is suitable for your ASIAN XDA.

You must be referring to the ASIA SITE, the UK O2 SITE is now boasting the 1.72.181 (with blackbery support) and the 1.72.187 (without blackberry support).
Also i think DCS here posted a ZIP version of the 1.72.187 WWE full ROM for download. Please search.
For your question regarding COUNTRY ID problems, if your XDA 2 is still ORIGINAL unit, meaning you did not FLASH it or TRY to load any other ROMS since you bought it AND you did not try any of the previous 1.72ROM here from T-mobile, Imate..etc. Then there should not be any problems for you in upgrading from 1.66WWE to 1.72WWE.

You can put every language version on your device with maupgradeut_noid, but make a backup of the ext-rom cabs first as they contain your US operator settings!
The howto explains how it's technically to be done. You know that by now ;-)

FYI O2 does not have a local office here in the US ... for all of the guys who use any O2 mobile device, you should know which version of the device you get (whether UK, DE, IE, Asia, et al) so you would get the right ROM for you.
in another note, you can actually use any ROM which is readily available in this site, though you need to tweak it a little for the settings of your device ...

I upgraded to the UK version, so it works. Ugly colors though, I ended up going to the latest IMATE JAM version instead.

What about the statements from users who flashed their Magicians and lost their 850MHz ability? They used the bootloader flash method... dunno whether that made the difference.
I have been reading and reading to understand if I can do this or not but on every thread there are people that says its doable and some says that its not.
Does anybody have a final say onthis? I need to do this to switch to 850mHz from 900mHz on my magician.

Well... why don't you save your current radio ROM (see here) and just flash one of europe ROMs available (see here). Then don't forget to check back here and report!

I have looked at those pages many times trying to make sense out of it but it looks like there are some background information that I am missing. It just sounds all french to me. and I don't want to go try something that will screw up my phone without fully understanding what I am doing. Is there a source you suggest for me to read.
Also wouldn't l need a US radio because I want 850mHz not 900mHz. I don't see a US radio there. Am I missing something?

I bought a HTC touch SIM unlocked version from India. It was working fine with Vodafone India SIM. It had only Asian and Australian networks listed in the Network Wizard.

At present I'm in Netherlands. When I wanted to use a Lebera SIM, it started searching for Network and I got a notification saying " Network 20412 not found. Request your device provider for updates".
After searching for network multiple times, now it just says Invalid or No SIM. It is a new SIM and works fine with other phones.
I haven't tried anything funny coz I'm a newbie in this area.
Request all of you to help me so that I can get my phone working.

install this cab and select nederland..
ayyu3m, I had the same problem as sam_delhi when I inserted a Vodafone-India sim in my phone. Even with the new cab you posted, there is still no choice for Vodafone-India.
Is there an even newer version of the cab with the very latest networks?

he aint looking for an unlocker dude...his sim is jus searching for an operator, which his network wizard doesnt have.

That didn't solve my problem. When I tried installing the cab, it installed successfully but gave a warning that this software is for a lower version of windows.
I checked the network wizard but it still had the old Asian and Australian networks.
Any other suggestions???

its not spelled as netherland. its spelled as Nederland
but lebera is not available as an operator...only KPN, Orange, T-Mobile, Telfort and Vodafone
i have heard Vodafone had partnered with Lebara in the UK, which allows Lebera to use the Vodafone network...so try selecting Vodafone with Nederland from the cab i gave here
When I inserted my Vodafone-India SIM, I tried selecting 'Hutch' (as that is who Vodafone were before the re-branding), but still it wouldn't log onto the network.
Are we using some sort of Airtel specific ROM?

Lebera here in Netherlands is using KPN's network. But even after installing the CAB I don't get Nederland listed in the Network Wizard. The CAB installed successfully but gave a warning that the CAB file is for a lower version of Windows than the current.
I've Windows 6.0.

thanks ayyu3m. but i thought the network wizard was only for configuring your gprs connection. isn't the phone supposed to pick up and register to a network automatically. do u need separate cabs for this?
nah bro. it does more than that also. it sets country and operator, so that our device can follow that network. and yep need cabs....but if its only newer...or havin more countries...which may include ours
I am having the same problem. My dad gave me an unlocked HTC touch GSM and it wont work in the US . I have tried both CIngular and T-mobile sim cards and it would give me the same error Network 30196 not found. Request your device provider for updates. This is really pissing off. I tried the new updates and speed connecting wizard too. Nothing seems to work.Need help here..
