Retrieve data from xbackup file without xbackup? - General Topics

Hi,
I had a Magician, now I don't anymore
Fortunately, I have all my contacts backed up on my SD-card. But the question is, how can I extract them to a usable format with just my PC? I would like to insert them into outlook to later be able to transfer them to my other phone. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, but I've already tried that application on my PC, and it just created an empty subfolder called RestoredFiles, gives me an error message and dies.
I tried it on my PC at work too, same thing. :/

What file system does Windows Mobile use?

My phone is hosed, and I can't launch any applications. It opens and can make calls, but very little else works. I can browse the files using ActiveSync, but there's no way to back up all my other data before reflashing it. Is there any way to access the memory and back it up directly over USB? I know I've seen it before using WM5torage, but of course there is no way for me to launch that.
If you can browse the files with ActiveSync you can copy them to your PC. If you're looking to backup the PIM data it's in pim.vol in the root folder.

I copied that.
Does that include text messages, contacts, calendars, call logs, etc?
I cannot actually sync with ActiveSync ("Synchronization cannot be completed successfully"), but I can browse the files under "Mobile Device".
Is there a guide on how to back up all my important data before a reflash?
What exactly is contained in the pim.vol file? Will I be able to hard reset and then get my information back for a backup, and then reflash?

TF3D2 wont load.. backup options?

Hey everyone, so this is the 2nd time my TP2 has had the cprog.exe error, and tf3d 2 wont load. I need to hard reset, but I do not want to lose all my contacts. Is there a file on the phone that contains my contact info? I heard someone mention the pim.vol on another forum but im not sure.
My only method of backup is to copy files to the phones storage card via file manager. I cant get the usb connection to work.
Any suggestions?

Restore SMS after reset

Hello
I had to reset my phone tonight and I backed up everything to the cloud and I backed up my SMS as well using the stock app, for which I have a HBK file sent to my email.
Now, I am having trouble restoring the SMS, the phone says : "no back up files found" . I did transfer the HBK file to the phone but its not working, Is there a specific fold for it ?
Thank you
Hell all, after a good night of sleep I was resolved the problem this morning
There is indeed a specific folder the HBK file has to go into, it's called "SMS_back-up" , it resides in the SD card menu, along Android, Pictures, etc...
I had to create a new SMS back in order to create the file folder needed to complete the restoration, after that I simply copied the HBK file into that folder and the restoration was done!
Hope this helps

Is it possible to restore SMS backed up as .db file?

As in the title. My friend asked me to recover stuff from his Lenovo P2 with dead screen. I've already pulled out photos and other files and also managed to recover contacts but for messages, as he did not turn on USB debugging, I couldn't do much. Then I saw that at some point he had backed them up using built-in backup app. They were on the sd card in the "message data" folder. The file is named "sms001.db" When I'm opening it using DB Browser on my PC I can see the messages. But the question it how to send them to his new phone? There's like 20k of them in this file... Thanks in advance.
Is his new phone the same brand? If you are able to view them on your PC my guess would be that other than the .db file type they are not encrypted in any way, so simply placing them in the same file as before doesn't allow your friend to recover the messages?

Recover old phone's WhatsApp data

I have a new phone (Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite). I wanted to transfer my Whatsapp account to it. But I stupidly went ahead without making a Google Drive backup of my messages on my old phone (Motorola G5S).
Instead, I installed Whatsapp on the new phone, which, since it has my old sim card in it, recognised me and re-created all the Whatsapp groups.
BUT all chats were empty.
I have copied the msgstore.db.crypt14 file from my old phone's Whatsapp/Databases folder. I've transferred it to my new phone. But no luck.
Is there any way to recover my old Whatsapp data (at least the chats)?
There is recover software for deleted files on your phone.. unless you wrote more data over in your old phone it is likely that you can recover it.
Google for a trusted recover software for android.
It might be possible if you install whatapps on your old phone again and it might recover the chats on it's on..
But I would try first going over a recover software.
Sorry if I wasn't clear, I do not need to recover files. I have been able to copy the msgstore.db.crypt14 file from my old phone's Whatsapp/Databases folder. But transferring it to my new phone does not seem to work.

I read that but that encryption file is most likely tied to hardware identifiers of your old phone and I doubt you might be able to decrypt in your new phone.
So my recommendation still stands try to power up your old phone, recover the whatsapp files, copy these files to a folder on your pc, then install whatapps again on your old phone.. see if it recovers automatically if not, replace the recover files..
Then there should be a backup option natively in whatsapp and then do a migration..
That seems to me your best shot.
Thank you, I will try this and report back if it works.
It worked, thanks!
