Come on. Your posting isn't 24 hours old.....
You can install the programs of the extended ROM manually or you have to reflash your device again with the ROM without the BigStorage hack.
As much as i know, there is no other solution....
Stefan

If you do a "normal" update, i.e. start an "official", unmodified ROM-update program that also includes an Extended ROM, you will get this Extended ROM installed as well.
The question is - why do you want an Extended ROM ?
Do you want to sell/give away your device ?
Otherwise you can install the .CAB files that usually are in the Extended ROM also by copying them from the PC via ActiveSync to your device. They are probably available on the FTP Server here (did not check it though).

OLTP's rom upgrade & BIG Storage guide

Hi all,
Almost everytime I check the forum I see a lot of rom upgrade & BIG Storage questions. Apparently not everyone is familiar with the wiki and search options on the board. That's a shame cause almost all the questions are answered in the already existing threads. So why a new thread about the same topic?
1. I'm chauvinistic and want my name on the board ;-)
2. To aggregate a part of my knowledge in one place for easy access.
3. To promote the wiki
- So if you tried to upgrade your rom and got an error 120: follow this description http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=MagicianRomUpgrade
- If you failed in upgrading your rom somehow & now you're stuck in the bootloader: just make sure usb connections are allowed in Active Sync, connect your magician with usb to your PC and run the rom upgrade program again.
Sometimes it helps at this stage to downgrade ActiveSync to version 3.8 (see the post from benenglish).
- If you need to go to bootloader for any reason (including incorrect rom upgrade) press 'camera, power and soft-reset' all at the same time for some seconds, till your screen fades and reads: Serial V1.0x. When you connect it to usb it should read ' usb V1.0x
- If you want to change the language from your magician (not including from or to Greek, cause those roms and devices are protected), just use http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=MagicianRomUpgrade again.
- If you want to flash your magician with a charmer or any other rom, please don't you will loose your device when you kill your bootloader and that's very likely to happen while flashing a not suitable rom.
- Want a WWE BIG Storage rom the easy way? Follow http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=MagicianRomUpgrade and download ftp://xda:[email protected]_NK.nbf/BIG_Storage_nk_for_rom_1.13WWE.zip This NK.nbf is patched for BIG Storage, you only need to put it in the directory with the extracted shipped-rom.
- Want a BIG Storage rom in any language the easy way? Download a shipped-rom from the ftp or any telco and follow http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=MagicianRomUpgrade
- Want to get BIG Storage via a SD Card flash, read it here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=MagicianSDflash
- Don't know what BIG Storage is? It is your ext-rom (with the operator customization cabs) exchanged for a larger internal Storage folder. So remember to backup those cabs before upgrading.
- When you want to revert from BIG Storage to the original Storage and ext-rom combination, make sure you put > 8MB data in your Storage folder before flashing it back with a normal rom. Otherwise you'll loose your Storage folder completely :-(. Seems that this might be a solution & doesn't work for everyone. Try it if reverting with empty \Storage folder isn't successful.
Any questions left, I guess so. Now don't be scared and put them on the board, nobody is going to eat you (at least not straight away) and someone will answer.
But remember that when this topic is still visible in the first page of this board I will probably stop answering new threads about BIG Storage and rom upgrading questions, I've done that for 5 months now and I'm starting to loose my interest.
Regards, M
Ps If you're really stuck in a rom upgrade & can't get it working, last resort is to pinpoint me to a location where I can download your rom-dump or the shipped-rom & I can prepare it for you. All it takes is a cup of coffee on my, for now, virtual world trip. Got Italy, Cyprus, Argentina, Asia, UK, Germany, Belgium, Greece, Turkey & US allready. So if you're living in any other country, especially Indonisia, Australia or New Zealand, be my guest.
Great job OLTP..
Your the man

AND USE ACTIVESYNC 3.8
My upgrade was stuck at this stage - removed Activesync 4.0 - Installed 3.8 and ran the firmware update again - its now "Upgrade Radio Stack - Please wait" with the progress bar going along on the screen.
Hope this helps
I've heard/read more complaints about Act.Sync 4.0. Though 4.0 is working flawless on my side, every contribution that works is valuable information. I updated the first post with it.
Thanks
Big storage
I did a big storage for my Mini by using a copy of my rom, changing the bytes as told in the guide to upgrading with a HEX Editor. I have installed programs to new storage gained but my main memory is showing very little memory. I have no programmes installed in main memory. What should I do now ?
How much memory have you got free. I got now, on my fully loaded device, 9.6MB storage & 22.5MB program memory occupied.
Did you happen to load all the cabs you copied from your ext-rom again? Those cabs install in RAM.
Cheers, M
stotage lost
pls help... i lost my storage when i flash my mini in my stock shipped rom i followed instruction of olps to soted data at least 8mb of files but it didnt works still lost my storage...
how can i back it again..is there any hope?..
thanks
First thing to do is to load the BIG Storage rom again. This should give you back the \Storage folder.
Now did you use the same rom version for BIG Storage as your original rom version? Some do claim it needs to be at least the same country version.
So pls try to revert to the same version only without BS & you can always try with an empty \Storage folder.
Seems that some tricks work out different on several devices.
Good luck, M

Can I upgrade my Mda compact 2 also with a sd-card like the compact ?
When I make a hardreset with the card in the slot, i cannot chosse to install from sd-card.
That's something I don't know. Try one of the board's for WM5 devices like the Wizard. Maybe you can find your info there.
Success, M
[edit] could you append it here too pls, if you find it?
Hi OLTP,
Right now I have 8.04mb free in storage memory (big hack). In MAIN memory around 3.10 mb in program memory (in use 23.47 mb). Storage (main) - in use 28.29 mb and free 2.55 mb. This keeps going less and less so from time to time as I use and close programs. So I keep doing a soft reset. I get critical memory short error. What do I do.
Should I flash with my saved original ROM (the one I had before doing the hack) and then immediately flash the saved Big Rom ? Please let me know. You are the Guru.
@ Galahad: What kind of software did you install after the update? & how's the memory pressure right after a hard-reset (don't forget to make a proper backup first)?
Do you use cabinstl to install cabs to another location then 'default' (which is RAM)? & tell Act.Sync to install to Storage or Storage Card, otherwise your RAM will be used up very soon.
My advice no need to reflash right now, a hard-reset should be sufficient to see what is causing your prob.
M
After the hack I had installed couple of commercial software, all into storage memory thru active sync which prompts you where you want to install. I choose storage memory (26.92). I keep doing this for all the commercial software I need to install. When I finished doing this I had 6 mb free. so far so good. Then I started installing cabs files from Ext Rom copy on harddisk, with cabinst. These were smart dial cab, O2 connect and a few other (which I thought necessary) cab files. These too I installed into storage memory. If my memory serves me right, I started experiencing a sudden slide down in memory after this. Before this I had around 25 mb memory free. Then suddenly the slide down in memory. In fact Resco today plug in shows me the dramatic slidedown as if the memory is getting sucked down a black hole.
I will do a hard reset as suggested by you and then load my software into storage memory. This time I will not install cab files from Ext Rom. Is that OK ?
Your O2 software is def. causing your probs. If you need some apps from it, try WinCECabManager. With it you can see which files are stored where on your device. After cab installation you can move them to eg. \Storage\Windows & change all links & reg keys referring to those files. Or change tea cab-file of course. It can take some time, but ves a huge amount of RAM.
M
Thanks ! I will try your suggestion. Have never used WINceCab Manager. Hope it is not too technical.
Not for me, it's a bit like explorer. But then again I'm not standard.
Some good news !
Like I said, I had around 24 mb free memory after the big storage hack (after installing all applications, whether in storage memory or storage card).
The good news is that all my FREE MEMORY has come back. Don't know really how it happened. I was using my blue tooth device which I switched thru the icon on the screen bottom right.
In error I touched the icon to rotate screen orientation. When I finally got my orientation correctly, I also got all my lost memory.
IMAGINE THAT !
Thanks for all your quick responses and great help you gave me. I will surely emulate you helping ways.

One thing I must say is thankyou for doing your reading first - you set a good example.
One thing I must point out is that when you download the ROM, the ROM chef's who put them up for download usually include it with 2 files:
-kaiser_RUU.exe
-RUU_signed.nbh
All you need to do is make sure activesync is syncing up with your phone, then run kaiser_ruu.exe, and follow the prompts. There is no need to install anything on the memory card.
-Do I missed one step?
No, you haven't missed any steps.
-What is radio I do not really undestand it?and what can be the impact on my phone ( I am with Orange France) ?
I'm not 100% sure on this, but the radio is the software in the phone which acts as an interface between the reciever and the network. If you aren't having any reception or service issues, then it'd be best not to do anything to your radio. Usually, a ROM chef will point out whether or not they have included a radio update.
-Do the WM6 is include in the rom?
Yes. All kaiser ROMs are WM6.
-Do I will lose my office word and excel?
It depends on whether or not the ROM chef has removed it from their ROM. In their ROM description, it will usually explain what's in the ROM, or what's been taken out. You'd want to look for pocket office.
-All the Orange stuff will be remove?
Unless you download a ROM which strictly states that it has Orange settings, then yes, all the Orange stuff will be removed, but don't worry, because internet connectivity settings will automatically be configured by the phone when you start it up for the first time.
-Which rom is very stable and clean ( for a newbie)?
I'm very very happy with:
Dutty's Hybrid Rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=341879
Oh, one thing you need to do is backup everything on your phone right now because you'll lose everything if you install a new ROM.
Thanks charbz
I do not have to save any data, I did not used it a lot ( a bit slow with orange stuff..)
I found a way to save my rom here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334680
Can it be usefull to save it?
Pascal
I don't think you have to 'un simlock my htc' - Flashing the ROM only requires the Hard SPL..
I personally would go for a large ROm to start with eg 'Austinsync's bigstorage
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=336509
or go for many of the lite versions and add your own cab's. Then backup using Sprite od SPB backup..
Saving original ROM is useful especially if you intend to return the phone for a waranty repair

Yes, it's always useful to save your ROM if there aren't any readily available versions of your existing type of ROM out there.
If you can get it working, then it would be great to have it backed up, in the situation that you need to make a warranty claim.

ROMs

Can someone explain this to me. The storage in a device is in the ROM of the device. When you flash a cooked ROM it is in the ROM of the device. So are these in the same areas? When you look in /windows is that file what you flashed in or is it a copy? Where does all the space go?
generaly the full storarge is 128mb. the roms that are coocked are about 53-57mb unless the extended storage is included in the coocked version so it might be about 72mb (i think)
When you flash rom the computer loads the files into the phone, then the bar reaches 100% and a long wait before the phone reeboots. The rom files are locked for good; whatever aplications or upgrades you put into it do not overwrite any of the files in rom. so that when you hard reset only the original ROM files stay in the rom and all of the stuff you put into it are wiped clean.
The extended rom (correct me if Im wrong) is actualy located in the ram (usualy 10mb) This is the place where your carrier installes their programs and settings they desided are right for you. some developers also use the extended rom to put in their fixes.... However, all of that still gets installed into main device memory
Then there is a pagefile (from 4-8-12mb in some cases)
That leaves whatever miniscule remains for available storage and ram.
I hope that this is clear.
Can you just delete/add stuff to the extended rom or not?

hi
You need to break the rom image down.
When you run the upgrade, it will extract files to your temporary location, browse to this folder and you will find the romupgrade utility as well as the nk.nbf and ms.nbf. Replace the ms.nbf with the extended rom version that you wish to use in this temp directory and then continue the flash process.
If you are unable to find the temp location that the files textract too, then simply flash the original rom, then reboot the device, enter back into bootloader and flash only the extended rom that you wish to use.

i am looking for WM6 for either O2 XDA EXEC or imate JasJar, can anyone help me locating a site to download the Rom.

WM 6.5 ROM Expired. Urgent help needed!

Hi Guys,
I am in a serious fix ! I downloaded WM 6.5 ROM from this site about 3 months ago & installed it on my HTC Touch Pro. It worked like a charm...until this Morning. It now says " This concludes the beta test of this software release." etc....I can't connect to my phone via USB(activesync), thus I can't reload any Software onto it. I tried to Hard Reset...but the phone just restarts & goes back to this message...Is there any way of getting a ROM installed on this phone ? Any help will be greatly appreciated !
Thanks~
do you have an sd card if so have you tryed that method ?
Haha, no i don't have an SD card, but i solved my problem. I went to bootlog.. somehow XD. I tried many different methods, but i eventually found one that worked. Then i just Installed a new ROM. Problem solved ^^.
same problem here - would be nice if developers mention that their software expires
will now try to flash new rom too
I have the same issue - I have an Acer neotouch and is now bricked due to expiration of windows. How do I flash another rom or re-load factoy rom? I cannot get my phone to connect to my PC.
same problem!
I have the same problem, this night @ 00:00 it expired.
I have very valuable text files in my phone memory, really sucks.
I really need this back for my job.. Has anyone an idea of recovering the data without flashing a new rom?
And if i flash a new rom, i suppose all data @ phone memory will be lost?
Greatings Bouke
I also have this problem. It seems pretty widespread
That's because it's May 1st everywhere, lol.
This is why you didn't want to flash (or cook) a rom with the beta version of Office 2010. Now, there's a non-time-bombed version available, and you'll need to upgrade to it. A savvy flasher will also always advance the date on a build by a few years immediately after flashing, just to see if there is a time-bomb built in. There's no one to blame but yourself if you didn't do it.
Thats great Farmer Ted and very smug of you...however we may not all be as experienced as you and are looking for a way to resolve this issue.
ROM expired
Can we please get the steps to over come this error.

Don't get mad at me. The moment you decide to flash a custom rom to your phone, you have to take responsibility for anything and everything that happens to it. Custom roms don't come with warranties. This isn't the first time that raphael roms have expired due to time-bombs. Almost all of Monx's roms went kaplooey over a year ago. Everyone knew that office mobile 2010 was beta (and if you didn't, it's your fault). It says so right on the download on windows marketplace, and it says it would expire in the spring of 2010. A month ago, many users received messages that their roms would expire in 30 days, and there were threads about it all over the place. It shouldn't be a surprise that the early rom builds that came out with it had a hard expiration date. The problem is that the time-bomb in the early builds was in the Office package, which no one knows how to remove, whereas in the more recent builds the time-bomb is in shell, which is easily patched.
Solution that worked:
Step 1. Turn Off your phone
Step 2. Turn on keeping the Power On button + Low Volume Key pressed untill you see a tricolor display showing current ROM details
Step 3. Connect the phone to PC using USB and flash using any ROM of your choice
Note: This will erase all the data on the phone.
Anyone found a way to backup the data on the phone?
It will run some programs (Sense, some services, some apps accessible via Sense - all accessible for short times by locking, then unlocking the phone) but not connect with Activesync.
Autostart from SD does not seem to work (don't have a known working app to compare)
All I'm missing now is a way to access the internal storage.
Any ideas?
can u still add app shortcuts to sense?

Hi Everybody,
I succeeded to flash my Samsung Omnia keeping my data under /My Storage. But all the other data lost. Here is what I have done:
1. Hard Reset: date will be set back to 20080101 (data under My Documents will be lost)
2. Flash new ROM using Samsung Modem Driver. I suggest to use ROMs from pdafanclub.com
3. I tried to restore my data/settings using Spb Backup, but many applications did not worked because of the new ROM, and my device froze continuously.
Good luck!
