Hi guys,
I have spent much time reading the various forums on the different options on the SAT NAV. I would like to offer comment, and ask assistance at the same time (ooeerr!!)
1) I have been using the ipaq with the Navman GPS 3000 for a long long time, and have used it with almost every piece of software compatable. I live in Devon, England and probably cover about 30,000 miles a year, and would comment as follows for assistance:
Destinator - antequated ****e that couldn't navigate its way from A to B down a straight road with no turnings.
Tom Tom 2 and early 3 - Very pretty, but WARNING - crazy route choices, especially on some of the B roads. Most upsettingly, two of the towns near me are not listed - thus making searches really hard. Also good for adding your own POI's
Smart ST Pro 2 - Very very functional, excellent route choices. No personal POI's and version 2 not 3D.
Every time I have ended up with Tom Tom's software, I have given up and reverted back to Smart ST Pro (bundled with Navman).
So question.
Is the latest version of Tom Tom better at routes?
If not, can a version of smart ST pro be made to work on XDA II
IF so, which version of hardware is best used with it?
Or should I just keep the Compaq in glove box for sat nav, and use XDA for other stuff
Help help help help!!!! ! ! !
cheers guys
JJ
Love the Destinator comments! As for TomTom, V3 with the latest update it is much improved, routing is logical, maps are still TeleAtlas but that's something we'll have to live with. The custom POI's are a hugely popular feature, you can utilise our Safety Camera database and there is Digitools excellent (and free) UKPostCode plug-in so you can navigate with a PostCode as the only info necessary (see www.digitools.co.uk ).
Runs fine on an XDAII with the latest ROM which is especially apt if you use the Traffic feature updating via GPRS, works perfectly. You'll find the performance of the latest GPS Mice and BT GPS receivers much improved over the Navman GPS Jackets, more satallites, quicker TTFF and much better at holding on to weak signals.
Thanks for the feedback griffog,
I will give it a try then.
I will let you know how I get on!
Right, back to my search for Pocket PC Elite!! ......
Cheers

Thjis is a post for anybody using TOM TOM 3.
Just as a quick experiment to see if they have corrected a minor oversite.
Coud you see if Tavistock and Totnes are listed as towns in the search engine.
We all wish we could forget these places, but unfortuntately, we still have to visit!!!! !!!
Cheers guys in advance
Happy to confirm that both Totnes and Tavistock appear on the address search and are cirrectly indexed as being in Devon.
Thanks griffog,
I suppoose that's good news !!!!!!! ha!
Cheers

Hi there,
As a new owner of the o2 XDA mini s I would like to install a sat nav program, preferably one that covers Europe, any suggestions on which to use and how to obtain it would be appreciated, thanks.
I find TomTom to be pretty good.
I suppose Expansys at Expansys.com would be a good start. Also, checkout TomTom's own web site.
@mx5duncan
I have used all three major versions:
TomTom 5.21
Navigon 5
Destinator6
TomTom is nice, but it's full of bugs, old cards and way to many strange problems
Navigon looks very nice but SOOOOOO SLOW (takes minutes to enter an address) and recalulate the route will give you mist turns TOOO SLOW
Destinator is clearly my winner easy to use, excellent maps and very fast.
Don't need your manual very intuitive

Thanks for your help guys. The Destinator6 sounds OK but how do I go about getting hold of it? Is it available to download anywhere or do I have to purchase it? As I said, I'm new to this phone and also to sat nav so any help, however small is hugely appreciated, cheers.
Hi if you are intrested in a tomtom system on your pda I have a uncracked version with full europe mapping (Requires a 2Gb mini sd card
Or a GB+ Major roads of europe (can get away with 512Mb but 1GB is better)
If you are intrested i will put it on a CD for you and post it out for a small charge (about €10) if yo like.
You will have to purchase a Code from Tomtom or get your own crack tho
Hi,
You can visit the Destinator 6 site see link below:
Ill plug my own company DSL Developments as we are an authorised reseller, but also heres the Destinator link to the resellers also, hope that helps.
D6 is proving very popular, its very easy to use and install, and very upto date, latest maps and postcodes, and if you are new to PDAs and sat nav, its a doddle to install and use each day:
Hope that helps!

Hi, Guys and Gals
I rencently acccquired a HTC Touch Cruise but my one doesn´t bring any GPS program installed on it, and also I don´t Know even if the phone brings GPS or not, how I can test it ?, I need to buy something extra for it I´ll apreciate if you can help me with this.
thanks in advance
Your Touch Cruise does have a GPS in it. Also it should come with a copy of TomTom on the CD with one free map. If you live in the US or UK try Microsoft Live Search. Or you can always try the HTC GPS Diagnostic tool. It doesn't show maps, but at least shows you when you get a GPS lock and lat/long, heading, speed, etc.

Hi there,
I am looking for a good car navigation solution for Raphael (for travelling in Europe). After reading infos about TT which seems to work at least with the latest releases and Navigon (for which I am not that sure ...), I now read about Tele Atlas McGuider which also seems to be quite good and even less expensive, but it seems to lack TMC or other traffic assistance support which is crucial for me (radio broadcasted or via internet, I do not mind, but it is a must).
I know that there are some other solutions out there. I wonder if you guys have experiences to share, also w/regard to VGA screen resolution and so on.
Thanks!
Eriol
I like the CoPilot Live, works very well and has a nice look and feel.
Co Pilot live is ok, but the traffic part of it is rubbish compared with tomtom. There is no visual display of traffic incidents ahead on the map, only a description that pops up with incident details which you either avoid or ignore. You can set it to automatically reroute, but you dont know whats going on. In my opinion, tomtom is currently the best.
I also found co-pilot slow to scroll around the map, but there again i dont have a fast mem card. Unfortunately there si no trial version available. make sure you get the version specific for the HTC diamond (also compatible with Touch Pro). It can be purchased online (from handango) cheaper than most retail stores.
Thx to both of you! I still would like to compare TomTom with McGuider ...

McGuider
Hello,
I am using last version McGuider (7.x I think) and it work fine, but map and icons are too small, I and don't know if it can be repair.
Please if some one use thist program please write down here about how work.
Bye
Garmin XT is the best imo. TT cannot hold a candle to Garmin.
iGO 8
I think iGO 8 is the best solution for Raphael
Navigon
I really like Navigon !
Search Youtube for Navigon 7 !!

Hi Jochen,
I have a stand alone PNA running Navigon 6.5, and I like it, too. But my experience with Navigon, especially running on my HTC Wizard (MN 6.x), is that the route calculation is rather slow and the whole app is not that fast on a PDA. This might be different on a Raphael due to processor speed, though. We also will use an Xperia X1 here: Is it possible to run MN7 on 800x480 screens?
Eriol
i maybe wrong, but some navigation programs will only run when the supplied memory card is installed. Installing the maps to another card will not work which therefore means you have to swap cards when using the software. Check before you buy!!!

Navigon is nice-- but once you're in the tunnel and lose signal it would say you've reach your destination I also don't like its route calculation-- it's giving me a longer route than tomtom
To my mind ist the default navigation (TomTom 7.451) the best. it uses vga, is fast, new maps

In Copilot7 there is indeed visual display of incidents ahead on the map, you also can get to incident-specific info in just three taps, reporting delay and other usefull info........
No need for automatic rerouting, you can let Copilot ask you what you want to do, after you have read the incident-info and delay time.....
No need for the diamond-version either, regular version runs great on my Touchpro....
See.......................you we're allmost right.....
Someone tried Navigon Mobile Navigator 7 for PDA on Raphael?
Is it compatible and full working?
Before then I buy, I asked to the support team, but no clear response about it.
Thanks.
NAVIGON Mobile Navigator 7 can work fine on Raphael, with this simple workaround.
You need a GPS port replicator (like Franson GPSgate) to solve the GPS signal stability problem on MN7.
I hope this can help who love this product family.
Hi guys,
I have a little Problem. I am seaching for a fast ROM in my Language (DE) without too much useless batterykillers.
So what the ROM should include is:
Internet (Opera, IE) and Modem for my Notebook, Phone, Navigation (Google Maps), AdobeReader, Office, Youtube, MediaPlayer, and the one or other Game . I think the normal but small Package.
I would prefer to intall all the other Software I need by myself, cause, just for example, I have big problems with TomTom HOME 2 in combination with the preinstalled TomTomNavigator V.7.915. Home 2 says the Navigators Version is not suppotet. And I don't like to have 2 TomTom versions on my PPC.
The Problem is that I am an absolute newbie having now idea what ROMs are available and/or good for my application and I don't like to spend month searching for a good ROM and destroying my hardware out of anger with the not working TomTom. So I ask you hoping for good answers and help.
(Sorry for beeing so impatient but I spend about 30 hours with this f*** TOMTOM and it always does not detect my Maps Version 8.30)
Thanks to all
PS: My aktual ROM is 3LIT3_v_Full
I bought the Phone with this ROM last week.
It looks to me that you're looking for ROM with "Lite" or "Naked" in a name/description.
So you should do a lot of reading in xda-developers > Polaris > Polaris upgrading etc.

Hello again,
so now I tried to understand a little bit inside xda-developers > Polaris > Polaris upgrading etc.. Result: Many Questions. To many to ask.
I think, after all i read, 3LIT3 isn't a bad choice, but which one?
In every thread about a Version, I found some answers telling about big Problems?!
I realy don't know what to do now.
I just want a small, fast working ROM for my Polaris?
Is nobody out there, who can say me the name of such a ROM. PLEASE!!!
At the moment im using 3LIT3 Lite GER without problems.
A good german Rom is also Olioaglio's german Rom

after I won the fight against my GPS-Navigation-Software*, I had much more peace to test some ROMs.
Something I did never want to do. Testing one after another ROM...
Well, I tryed the original ROM.... hmm... boring
afterwards I tryed M-Amine 2.0 Full. Nice, very nice, but too big. so many things I dont need. NEXT!
Next will be Olioaglio's Rom. Thanks for that hink.
and afterwards i will check 3LIT3 in the different versions...
But some questions are left:
1. what means WWE?
2. I found a Video about M-Amine 2.0 on Youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pt79X4TLwXA
(dont even try to watch the first 5 seconds. the file is corrupt an you have to jump to second 5 or so.)
the question: where do I find the calendar!! I like it! Looks exactly like what I'm (OK, not realy) searching for
*the TT Navigator 7.910 does not detect Maps of version 8.xx. Google says it does, I say "no, it doesn't!!!". Reason unknown!
WWE - World Wide English (or International English, if you like)
Ok now I think I have a problem. I decided to use Olio_v477_M2D_only but now NoData doesn't work anymore?!
What do you do to avoid expensive GPRS/etc. Connections?
