My Xda II Freezes - General Topics

Have Xda II freezes a lot lately. At first I thought it was because I had a lot music on it and that the memory was kind of low that's why it kept doing that. So I deleted most of the music I had on it and I am stilling having the same problem. Sometimes I reset it and it starts working well again. Other times, it just makes it sluggish.
Is there any form of help anyone out there could help me with?
Thanks.

You could start by telling us what Rom versions you have and what software you have loaded...

My ROM version is 1.60.00WWE. What sort of software are you refering to? I am a bit confuse here.

1.6 is pretty old the latest is 1.75 of the official english roms
and by software he mean all the software you installed on it apart from data files such a music and movies
he mean games, today items, system tools ... you name it
much like what people install on their computers

Ok. There are only two software or program that I have install on it. They are Handwallet and AvantGo.
If 1.6 is pretty old, what do I do?

Hi,
could you please tell me where can I download for newest firmware for my o2 xda 2s or PDA2k phone, and is this true that after flashing firmware to the newest one, our data will lost but problems is Fixed..
thank you

O2XDA IIi Hanging problem!

OK, My XDA work fine except one thing, its very slow and it will be hung when I am playing game, I mean when I am playing game I receive a call from Somebody and after I receive that phone call, instead it return to my game to continue playing , it is hung. Whats problem?
Anyone got any idea about this problem.
What other programs/applications do you have running? Have you tried to delete o2's interface? Maybe you can turn off 'photo contacts'. Installing programs in to your 'storage' memory instead of normal memory to free memory which has a big impact on speed.
More information is needed to help you more. You do have 'turbo' mode enabled i take it?
Many Thanks John for ur replying, I have enabled "Turbo Mode". And My PDA have some program such as Spb Plus, that program worked fine, and some game like KarmaSutris 8) , and when Im running that game, my PDA will be hung if Somebody make a phone call to my XDA phone u know, and some games will be hung but It notify a message about error in graphic :?: after waiting 2 minute and returning to TOday interface. And finally some games wasnt hung at all after I receive a phone call while playing game.
My PDA specificationFrom Device Information on my XDA)
WM2003SE
ROM version 1.10.00 WWE
ROM date 12/24/04
Radio verion 1.00.00
ExtROM version 1.10.124 WWE
DO I have to update ROM to solve that stupid problem from my XDA? ANy suggestion ? Which Rom do I need to use?
Many thnks
Oh I forgot to tell u that I didnt remove O2 interface and the application work fine but the game , it didnt u know.
I would certainly recommend updating such an old rom, it should be on O2's website.
I would also recommend installing 'Microsoft .NET CF 2.0' which should help. I used to get various errors on certain programs until i installed this. A good hard reset once in a while never hurts anyway, but if you're going to do that you might as well upgrade.
I tried putting 'KarmaSutris' in to google but nothing was found so couldn't find out much about it. Maybe it's just an old game that wasn't designed for windows to pause it while you get a call? PDA's with mobiles are quite new and the operating system would be completely different to older versions.
If you're really in to games then check out emmulators. I'm playing SNES games, gamegear games, gameboy games and also check out SCUMMVM for old PC adventure games, should make you forget about your other games, and all completely free too!
I would definitely recommend removing O2's interface, it's probably the most unstable program you can have on your system, i doubt you need it and it will speed up your XDA.
Thanks John, I will remove 02 user interface and install .Net Framework as U said. If if wont work out(I think maybe that stupid game's problem, I dont know why but as u said the compatible problems :wink, Im gonna update my old ROM. :wink and I think I will remove all the games which have that stupid problem. If u like emulator game so u can visit this Chinese website http://chinagba.com/down/index.html
It has alot of roms for you, Cheer. . I always download ROMS from that site.

This Might Interest People - Especially MY Dear Friend ThingOnASpring!
I have been testing master Lt.Cmdr.Ivan latest ROM v3 for a long time, which is evident from my signature. The ROM is very stable!
When master ThingOnASpring came out with his latest ROM, I thought to give it a try. Especially, the ROM had build in HTC Home today plugin.
I found this ROM of master ThingOnASpring to be very unstable with lots of crashes and freeze ups. The freeze ups were like in olden days and when someone called, the Universal hanged up.
So, I went back to master Lt.Cmdr.Ivan ROM again. Since I like HTC Home today plugin, the first thing I did, was to install this plugin.
Guess What?
The ROM was not stable anymore!
It had lots of crashes and freeze ups. The freeze ups were like in olden days and when someone called, the Universal hanged up.
So, I did a hard reset and didn't install the HTC Home today plugin, the ROM is now working flawlessly and stable just like before!
Go figure!
KOR!
Thx,
Good to know, I'll cook the ROM without the HTC Home , which anyway I wanted to swap by rltoday!
Cheers
Depends which one you use, I suppose...
Ever since the homeplug came out I've been using it and I had some problems with the early versions. However I kept this version which seems to be stable it doesn't freeze the phone and works very well. The only problem I've found with it is that if you set the phone to vibrate using the homeplug it sometimes loses your default ringtone...
So give it a try and see what you think. You might need to have a look at Maimach's fix for the homeplug but as always once you do this it might affect the stability.

Dear wtpelzer,
Thanks a lot. Will surely give it a try. I did try master Maimach's fix for the HTC Home plugin.
I have already downloaded your plugin!
I see you are still using master N. N. Coung's ROM, like me. It is one of the greatest ROM!
Thanks again,

Search for "HTC Home VGA - 6 Tabs !NEW!" on the first page of this thread. Thanks teixeirabmb, for letting us know about it. I'm running it on my Exec. Fonts look a little bit small, but still readable. Hope it helps...

is anyone having crashing with incoming calls with the htc home plugin??? i have installed a number of versions but cannot seem to get any to work without crashing my uni when someone calls me!!
in my case, universal freezing upon receiving calls happens whatever HTC Home Today plugin version is installed.
i haven't found a solution yet other than uninstalling the HTC Home, but you can try a temporary solution: remove the SD card from the slot & i can now receive calls without freezing.
can anybody having the same freezing problem confirm this?
confirmed!!

Well, as I posted yesterday, I'm running the HTC Home Today plugin posted by teixierabmb (links provided there) on my Exec, flashed with Ivan's v3.9 ROM. I keep my 8GB SDHC card inserted all the time, and I simply don't experience any freezes with incoming calls at all.

As far as I know, Jason's latest ROM had problems to properly handle SDHC cards. So, the SD drivers might really be vilains there...

hi drsqueggy,
do you mean confirmed that removing SD Card temporarily solved freezing problem?
i'm trying to figure out if its a registry hack related to SD (i.e. PIE cache to SD), the SD type & speed (tried MMC but freezes too), or what?
by the way my uni is a vodafone V1640.
I've tried the 2 SD drivers that come with the latest nncuong's rom, but the phone still froze intermitterntly on incoming calls (and keeps vibrating).
I won't uninstall htc home, coz i'm going to miss it.
Rant follows, please read it and check if you share my views about the question: -----------------
I'm beginning to think the Universal is flawed inside in its hardware, and nothing can be done for it.
With the universal, we have a slower WM6 than the competition, and a load of bugs that are still there from the veyr beginning. My Uni already froze a lot of times without reason, for example when I closed TCPMP, or when I opened the control panel. It seems like old bugs sometimes resuscitate from the grave
I miss the ability of other phones (and other PDA's too) to wake up and starrt to ring INSTANTLY when a call comes in, and not after 2 or 3 seconds.
And also that pause when you answer a call, where the other end doesn't hear you but you can hear him, is very bugging.
Let's face it: the Uni is not well engineered, either, as there are some components in the system that act like bottlenecks. Sure, SKTools benchmark give the Uni its say, but the truth is not that. Try installing a CAB file on the Uni and the same cab file on an HTC Touch. Guess what, the touch does it in 1/4 the time of the Uni. And guess what, the Touch's processor is the old ****ty omap 850 (a seriously-underpowered 200 mhz processor!). How could this be possible???
But the worst part of the history, is that every rom released only adds its bugs to the pile. I think they (the cookers) should unite and make some serious information-sharing, trouble-shooting and rom-releasing work together.
Heck, admit it, every now & there a rom comes out that use a "new extraordinary revolutionary mega-fast driver", only to discover, days later, that this driver is only mega-unstable and that it had already been tried months before.
I didn't have all those problems with my old Tornado's WM6 hack... they (the cookers) released a WM6 rom, and it worked flawlessy at first chance, way better than the original WM5.

Need info to make my own Custom ROMs for X7510

Hi people,
I come from the other side of the fence "Palm"
I just upgraded to the X7510, sweet piece of hardware and beautiful 5" display
So i'm very familiar in the Palm Treo world on customizing my own ROMs.
After reading & searching A LOT in here and other PPC forums, i still have a few utilities i can't seem to find.
So i read there is also a BootLoader screen in the PPC world, very typical of the HTC devices, makes custom ROMing very simple.
However, i still haven't come across the name of the applications you guys use to Dump (backup) the current ROM, and the Upload the new ROM into the device.
Or it seems like the only way is via ActiveSync 4.5 ?
Another doubt i have is about the Unlocked part.
My device is straight from HTC unlocked, does it mean it is fully SIM and CID unlocked, or it's only SIM unlocked?
By that i want to figure out if i need to run the CID unlock before doing the Custom ROMs etc.
And last but not least...
I'd like to contribute with the 7510 ROM original dump, seems like the Wiki doesn't have it yet,
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Athena_Upgrades
so i'll probably need the same whatever tool you guys use, as asked in my first question, to backup the old ROM.
which will also help us fill the empty space in the Wiki left for the very same question
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Athena
"How to dump the ROM"
Thanks
Cheers!
well... since i got no response from anybody
Thanks to myself

found the tool i was looking for to build my own rom.
and to top it off i finally found the ROM backup topic
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334680
now beats me on the mobile 6 subsection, and something that is totally on another area for another phone... oh well...
Good on you allgamer for taking a lead here. Some of us have been pushing for a separate 7510 forum under the Athena section. Without that we 7510 owners are continuously looking for "needles in haystacks".
cktlcmd and eaglesteve have been burning the 7510 candle for us. With your input we'll get this device on the map yet.
Hey i also just got a x7510, and id love see a x7510 rom!
hell yeah, you can say that again.... it was so hard to find anything, some times stuff like this the Search engine did not pick it up
like the rom dump, on another phone, i understand it is all PPC, but still it might have been different for some models
at least that was true in the Palm world, so i guess in the PPC world we'll have it easy, since it looks like all models dump appears to be the same.
as for the utility, never would have guessed it would have been found mentioned within a thread about something completely different.
anyways, now that i know, i'll be writing more about it, once i start working on it.

well, i don't mind sharing my custom ROMs, once i start cooking them.
but don't expect too much since, what i usually like to do is simply clean up all the junk that i don't need
then replace them with Freebies, or registered software, which if that is the case, i wont be able to share it here.
x7510 owners - forward march!
Something several of us are keen to see is a work around to make RealVGA work with Spb Mobile Shell. AllGamer, you mentioned in a post under "SPB Mobile Shell incompatible with Real VGA 96 dpi on the X7510" that you got a solution posted elsewhere working. Can you share with us how you did that?
Also, my devise is definately not running as smooth and quick as I would like it (or expect it to given its processor). As a prelude to getting some cooking going (and I'm not a chef) could we start to identify some tweaks that will make the stock ROM more efficient? For example I always ramp up the siz of cache etc. via MemMaid but to be honest I'm never sure whether it does any good or not.
Hi robjhellis,
Are you saying the performance in x7510 is not as smooth as it should be ? Can you please tell during what operations ie. Video etc it becomes sluggish. That would be a good place to start with.
Thanks,
Srini
Just guess, but i think that is the so much talked about behaviour of the video drivers issue on all HTC products
Videos are great no lag (well when i play them in coreplayer full screen, with specs up full). Only one "problem" lol...the audio is exactly -0.512milli seconds behind (when you hear it). So stupid tried all kinds of videos same result lol so thankfully coreplayer has an option were you just put "-0.512" in and ill kinda sync up the audio.. windows media player is pretty much pointless to play video now since you can't put -512 anywhere and the audio lags big time.
the audio in general is really bad, put on real expensive headphones and you can hear ssshhhhh hissss - the background noise.
Note: i was so shocked/surprised that i did a hard reset thinking maybe its something that i might of installed, but nope problem still there

Hi Guys, my issue isn't playing video - I haven't got to that stage yet on my 7510. Rather its just slow moving around menus, reloading after a soft reset, opening programs etc. I can sometimes count up to 3 and even 5 after selecting a tab before the tab appears e.g. Settings-System. I've also now started to see the start icon in the top left corner not redraw after a soft reset. There is much more lag than I see on my TyTN which, of course, is running a custom ROM

I will suggest to check in the ATHENA WM6 section the thread how to speed sogarth base rom....
Basically install netCF3.5 , FDCsoft Taskmanager 3.1 and start changing how/stopping started services and applications (There are many lauchxx keys in the registry to change to avoid self application startup)

By any chance, do you know how to exlude Biotouch from starting list? It is not started from startup links, or at least not directly. I was browsing the regs also, but could not find anything. I use FTouchSL and UL for cube effect on Today screan, so Biotuch seems to be useless.
Also, do you now what a wt5portm or something like that is for ?

its in advance - > near the bottom "manual A/V offset +/-"
but it still dosn't work...anyone got a solution plz....i don't know what to do the audio is always out of sync for any video..
I've found the same lag on audio and it is SO annoying! Nothing seems to fix it!!
I've created a quick "how-to" on dumping the x7510 ROM, which may be found here: http://htcathena.freeforums.org/dumping-your-x7510-s-rom-t6.html#p7
I will follow up with a "how-to" on re-constructing the ROM (unless somebody else feels inclined to do so instead). [Edit - found this how-to] http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337066
However, we still need HardSPL or similar. CMONEX told me she and Olipro are working on an unlocker with that functionality, so we'll need to wait a tad! Once we have that we can start cooking some ROM's.

you will lose all of the data that is stored on the phone itself, what is stored on the memory card will not be erased.
As for the programs you will have to reinstall them and co pilot remember to deactivate this etc before upgrading all in the page when you download the rom from o2.
Also it is a rom update, from 6.0 to 6.1, the improvements are minimal apart from the speed improvements which should make it worth it for you to do if you want to spend the time reconfiguring it that is.
Hope that helps
You should NOT upgrade.
I did, and now I have only problems which I didn't have while on 6.0. You can find my posts in this forum.
On the other hand, if you have problems now, try upgrading.
But upgrade was, IMHO, my worst mistake.
yeh but the difference is that your upgrade is the htc leaked rom that appeared on here??? htc still havent realeased the full 6.1 upgrade for the polaris, if they have then it slipped by me.
The one the person is talking about is the o2 6.1 upgrade which i have been running for the last month and had no problems...yet but thats the same with anything it can always happen.

There are a couple of advantages to updating. You can easily google or wikipedia for details on how WM6.1 has changed. What's not mentioned is the compatibility you get with the newer HTC software. What I did was install the new rom, delete Opera 8.65, and install the Opera 9.5, the new HTC Album, new HTC Audio Manager, and new HTC Youtube app. Its like I have a new phone! But w/o many of the instabilities and bugs that cooked ROMS offer. Furthermore, it definitely cured my Xperia upgrade desires.
Worth noting is that yes, you will lose all information on the phone. So either move stuff to your storage card, or back it up on the PC. (Both of which you should be doing anyhow). Old text messages, and call history can be backed-up and recovered using the Sprite Backup that was included on your original CDs. In fact, I highly suggest making a complete backup using Sprite so that you can easily revert to your old ROM and restore your previous files/settings w/o any hassle if you have any issues with WM6.1.
Known Bugs for the official WM6.1:
-Touch scrolling doesn't work well in the Programs Folder accessed from HTC Home
-The music tab in HTC Home cannot be enabled by registry edits
Solution:
-Use either the Start Menu Programs folder or replace the Programs Folder with something like TouchLaunch
-Either don't use the Music Tab a la original configuration or install the latest copy of HTC Home by Schen w/o the brightness fix
I wish I had never upgraded to WM 6.1, with WM 6.0 my Orbit 2 worked perfectly well, never froze and Bluetooth worked with my Parrot hands free even to the point that the CoPilot voice came out of the speakers. Since upgrading I have experienced a number of freezes, the Bluetooth connects when it wants to and even when connected half the time it will not transfer a call, sometimes placing a call 5 minutes after it was dialled. I have been looking for an official O2 WM 6.0 ROM to downgrade to see if that cures the problems because I cant see any improvement in speed and most of the other "features" of 6.1 are of no real use, the threaded SMS being one I find most annoying.
@ chris10230
My signature says "Official" WWE ROM. Yea, from HTC site, when it went public! So no beta or leaked. You must have missed us yelling "New ROM is out". But that's no big deal.
@ Mace
Downgrading to WWE 6.0 did not solve same problems as your's that I (still) have. So I think we're stuck. Hopefully something will go seriously wrong with my Polaris, so I'll replace it while still under guarantee...
@ both of you, find more here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=411883. Please read posts from page 13... posts prior to that are just guessing or talking about problems with download/validation of device serial number...

Although it is a little offtopic here, you can disable the threade SMS. I couldn't stand it, but fortunately there is a solution to disable it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=376770
I had upgraded to 6.1 official and also various cooked. but nothing beats 6.0 - I have 62MB free memory even after installing all my required prog's have even got SPB shell and Greatbal's manila theme - best of all world's
Am now on Panosha's Butterfly and enjoying the peace, tranquility
6.1 - give's you memory leak's, battery drain and most important eats most of the available memory due to all the new features like M2D, M3d, 3d Drivers etc...
Now if only I could figure out if Manila is installable on v6 then I have everything I need !

[Q] pol100 froyo performance

Hi, I acquired a used polaris touch cruise 1 and nand flashed to RLS10.
I am wondering what performance this device has with modern apps. I had issues to run youtube videos and flash. I also tried to run sipdroid (sip phone app) and it stucked with sound or completely crashed. Is there a chance in terms of performance do get this apps running?

The YouTube app suffers from a known problem that we hope it would be fixed.*
For VoIP you can use a great application that really works: Nimbuzz. It can make call using Skype accounts and Windows Live Messenger accounts. Be sure to check it out.
And... welcome!! Polaris is still a quite good device.
Yepp, I second that.
I find Froyo a little to much for my old Polaris. It really anoys me the lack of Flash support in the browser. Even with Skyfire I can't get it requires a lot of resources. One thing I must say, I enjoy Android more then Win Mo that's for sure.
The best ROM so far for me is Valilla Eclair. Fast with very good battery life.
I agree with alinescoo, the new Android ROMs (e.g. froyo) are too heavy for Polaris.... Not a bad thing though, but as long as you know the limitations u can be a happy user.
Ive had my Pola100 for almost 2.5 years now, and the reason I moved from WinMo to Android is cause its much much faster, stable and cause Im looking forward to finally buy a new phone. And Android is defintely the OS to go for...
I guess the answer to ur question depends on whether u wanna use ur Polaris as a stable everyday phone or u wanna try everything u can on it...
Cheers
Oh btw, Im using Incubus Super Froyo RLS13 with Liqu1d's 16/07 nbh. Very fast and quite stable...
Hope it helps
