Evening people, hope uve got a bit of info for me
Im getting my MDA Compact tomorrow on TMobile network. Ive already got an O2 contract which I am going to keep on using and the TMobile sim will not be used.
a) Whats the best/cheapest way to get the phone unlocked so I can use my O2 simcard?
b) How do I flash my phone with the latest IMate Jam ROM, Ive read some posts, but it seems a bitawkward to do and I dont want to end up with a broken phone after only a few hours
Or do I just stick with the ROM that is on there, but when I boot the phone, I reset it straight after touching the screen to continue on setup?
Any info very very much appreciated!!!
Before you do anything, make sure you make a backup of your MDA as it is. Follow the instructions elsewhere using the d2s procedure to make a backup of your ROM to an SD card, 256MB cards are best and once you have made the backup, use the ntrw tool to copy it to your PC.
You will beed this should you ever return your MDA under warranty !

Hi,
Im trying to upgrade my uk mda compact to one of the lastest roms, with no luck!
I have been trying for days now, feel like ripping my hair out!
ive tryed lots of different roms, all with the same error, Error 150, it says the utility was not designed for my device
ive been using MaUpgradeUt_noID, and putting the pda in bootmode
please help what am i doing wronge?
I've had the same problem..
Maybe a 'byte copy' from the original to the new rom has to be performed?
Can anyone confirm this?
Already done the BigStorage but not really sure of the benefit of the latest one (i still have the original shipped one).
Its pretty easy, will be doing it on Monday, if you guys are in the UK perhaps we can get on IM or something and I'll walk you through it.
Before then, please make a backup of your original rom usint the d2s procedure, you will need it should you ever return your MDA under warranty.

What I did was to disable activesync.
I then put the MDA into bootloader whilst disconnected from the PC. The bootloader should say Serial.
If you then plug it into the PC, the screen should change to USB.
Let the PC find the device and say that the hardware is ready for use.
Now run the upgrade_noid.exe program and it should work.

The reason i ask this is because (as silly as this sounds) I'm trying to set a personal record for "least amount of time modding a phone after purchase" (it's a bet).
Could i buy an AT&T Tilt take it out of the box, hook it up to my computer (after installing the drivers etc.) and flash it to the Kaiser rom without worrying (about having enough battery life, about bricking the phone, etc)?
Thanks
Of course You can. You would have to beat my record though. I didnt even play with the phone at all. Lol
Same here but I lost valuable time when I forgot to choose "Kaiser" as the target on the HTC ROM tool...
What I did was:
reset out of customization, then flashed hardspl (this was the only time I saw the yucky AT&T today screen & xp'ed yucky startup annimation)
dl full TyTNII & nbhextract os.nb
grab Gold HTC Sunrise over earth splash from Sleuth ROM
convert with htc splash tool then convert again with pof's splash converter
rolled everthing into ruu_signed.nbh using htc rom tool (lost time here w/wrong target)
flashed this, loaded phmregedit & proceeded to manually enter all the reghacks that Kaiser needs
now I'm golden
First time I've ever done this with a new phone....
Quickie question on this, You have to get it SIM unlocked first? or does that not matter for firmware, post HardSPL?
there is no SIM unlocked exept from the carrior at this time.
steps you take are outlined in th sticky but
#1 flash HardSPL(condom for your Kaiser)
#2 flash rom of your picking
#3 set up personal settings
simple man!
My phone is still SIM locked to AT&T atm. I only CID unlocked it with hardspl so I could flash another vendor's ROM.

Thats exactly the answer I've been looking for the last few days, so you CAN flash a rom without sim, just CID unlock. Woot!

Yup. I think that's what 90%+ of the AT&T users here are doing, including myself.
I'm SuperCID but SIMlocked, and I may never SIMunlock my phone - I don't foresee any international travel for at least a year or two, and by then I'll probably have a TyTn III.

Heh, same but i will be sim unlocking it ^^; but just not bothering till i get closer to the time. Why deal with the hassle, lol.
Just bought a cheap recon Orange E650 and now waiting for my code from IMEI-Check to SIM/CID unlock.
Forgive me for being a n00b but most of the flash guides assume that your phone is locked (therefore run a CID bypass etc).
Can anyone tell me which steps of the flash process I can avoid once I have unlocked the phone?
I wish to get rid of the Orange ROM and put on either the HTC original or Gonzo 6.1 ROM but want to avoid extra steps to reduce any chances of f**k ups
there are no steps which you can avoid.
SIM/CID unlock just make your phone able to use other sims.
But it will be still application locked and 3rd party rom locked.
so you have to follow the entire guide starting with the USPL.

I did exactly the same as you matey. Bought a cheap 650 and put an HTC ROM on it. Now i've got tomtom V6 on it (after a few slight probs!) but all in all, vey happy.
Just follow this link as i did but read it carefully ESPECIALLY the bit about copying file twards the end (FLASH SECTION, NUMBER 14). In all honesty, what you are sat waiting for to arrive isn't worth a toss. Just follow this thing as i did and you'll be cool

Official HTC ROM on
Got my file from IMEI-Check through & successfully unlocked the SIM/CID.
Now able to use Orange E650 with my O2 SIM
Took a gamble and downloaded the latest HTC ROM from the forum FTP site - wanted to test - if the phone is now CID unlocked then the ROM should work coz the ROM installer will think it is a HTC S710 not E650.
Ran the ROM upgrade took about 5-6 minutes to flash.
Phone then reboots - word of warning - it then takes about 5 minutes for the ROM to configure.
Don't panic like I did - staring at the Windows Mobile splash thinking I had bricked it! :-D
Now a de-branded E650 - did not have to run any USPL stuff etc.
However I am sure if I want to use a cooked ROM then I'll definitely follow all of the steps.
Phone is now quicker & no horrible Orange icons
Nice simple process - just hope HTC release the WM 6.1 upgrade for the Vox.
we all hope for the same....
Hi guys
I've just unlock my Orange tytn2 because I want to use a Tmobile UK sim .I did read here sometime ago that flashing Orange phones might brick it.How do I go about using a different rom so as to get Tmobile setting?
Thanks
There is a piece of softeare called connection setup. this will auto detect the network and your tmobile sim and will prompt you to install the settings.
I am on Orange UK and that software was taken off as part of the Orange UK customisation.
Now, usually most cooked ROM shefs have included this Connection Setup software with the ROM. so once you flash your phone (and only do so after you have extensivley Read and Read the froum) you will be able to get the setup automatically.
If you didnt want to go through all of that yet, you need to find the cab (software) and run it. most threads with cab collections will have it.

Make sure you hardspl before flashing a new rom, most roms have connection setup after the flash.
If you want to avoid bricking your Orange TyTN II, and wish to flash a new radio (or new rom including a radio), you'll have to SIM unlock it first.
I did it on a french Orange TyTN II, and everything went fine.
If you directly flash a new radio (alone, or together with the ROM), the SIM lock window will pop-up, and you will have to get the code from Orange before being able to use your phone again.
Does a phone have to be unlocked to put a WM6.1 Rom on it? I ask because someone has bought my phone after someone put Tomal's 8.5 Rom on and he tells me that neither a 3 or O2 sim will find the network.
So does that step have to be done to have the new Rom and might there be another reason why the network indicator is always searching? It was on Orange UK but the guy has no access to that sim.
