Looking for reg hack (Phone contacts points to PIM contacts) - General Topics

Hi
I am looking for a reg hack that will point the icon contacts found in the phone application to the contacts of my PIM (Infromatnt 2005).
I know this is possible as Fusion when installed replaces the phone contacts with the Fusion Contacts.
Any smart ideas about?

Do you mean whenever you enter Contacts on the phone, it goes to PI contacts?
If so, that's a setting in the PI application, I think it's "make PI my default PIM" or something.

Well I guess I get the wally prize for today!
Saw that option, thought it was set on the install, checked it, now it comes up with a tick mark.
Reset, went to phone, hit the icon contacts and it worked.
Was the wally prize an apple, can I eat it? .... as I sure don't seem to understand windows.
Ta.

Haha, at least it's now working as you want it.
Cheers

Have these WM6 issues been resolved?

There's been a few problems that some people have mentioned, but have either been lost among all the unlocking/upgrading questions or just not followed up for whatever reason. These are some of the issues I had with older versions of wm6 that I tried, which made me go to a wm5 3.3 to get rid of.
1) Auto-fill of names in messaging when typing in the "to" field doesn't happen
2) Windows Live messenger only connecting over GPRS even when wi-fi is enabled
3) I think it's what it's supposed to do, but it's annoying - is there a way to stop Windows Live adding all your contacts to your phone? I don't use my Wizard for e-mails or anything very often, so this is pretty useless, and just fills up my contacts list and then it takes longer to find the people I want to call
4) In the messaging application, the left softkey in wm6 is used for Delete, and to create a new message you have to go into the menu and then select New, whereas wm5 just had New on the left softkey (I'd rather not use 3rd party software to do this, if there is any that can!)
Can't think of any more right now, but feel free to add your own!
Anyone who's got Faria's new wm6 ROM, could you please comment on whether you have encountered any of these issues or if anything has been changed in relation to these?
Thanks,
Myk

Can't speak for much, but from the websites I've seen detailing WM6, #4 is actually a code change to the Messaging app. MS' research indicated more people wanted a Delete button than a New button and they made the switch. I don't know if it's something that can be changed through the registry or not, but it is native to WM6.

When you setup Widnows Live, uncheck the option to import contacts and it doesn't import them. At least thats what works for me.
If it is already configured, open windows live and go into options. choose sync options and uncheck contacts and messenger.

it is the way M$ designed it...they claim it helps battery life...it could not possibly be to make more money off of people by making them use GPRS
I turn off my phone sometime to make it connect via WiFi but faria said in his aku 3.3 ROM he pacaged it so it did not do it...I am trying to find out how to take windows live out of there and install it on WM6?!? but i don't know how I would go about that so if anyone could help please let me know...thanks for reading
Windows Live
Cancelling the GPRS connection before it's complete makes Windows Live switch to Wi-fi anyway, so I don't get why it even tries GPRS first and doesn't just go off wi-fi. Maybe there's a setting somewhere, like when you boot your PC and it goes through the various boot-up devices in order until it finds one that works.
Anyway, my problem with Live contacts being added to the phone contacts... I tried signing in to Windows Live, and going in the options and de-selecting "Synch contacts" as suggested. The problem is, when I try and sign in to Live Messenger, it comes up with a dialog box saying "signing in will add your contacts to your phone" or something, which is exactly the same as before.
Messenger is the only bit of Live (apart from e-mail, I guess) which I'm actually interested in at the minute, but I can't use it because I don't want all the contacts from my messenger account in my phonebook!

Again, This is M$ design. Nothing we can do about this. Messenger live will not work unless the contacts are in your phonebook. Sorry.
workarround windows live messenger

Faria just released this fix for windows live a few hours ago...I don't have WiFi at work or I would test it here...I don't even know if this is the fix that I am looking for but I will try it over lunch and see. Hopefully it is!

[Q] Is there a way to speed up Contacts' Search?

I have a Touch Pro device with 4000 contacts. When I try to search on them, as I type, a matching message appears in the lower side of screen and it takes so much time to display the matching contacts. Same time it's over 30". Is there a way to speed up contacts' maching?
Holy crap....4000 contacts??!! If your phone needs to scan though 4000 contacts each time you try to pull up a phone number....I'm guessing it would take that long. Even for the 528Mhz processor of the pro.
Maybe you can sort your contacts using lists? That way you can search by different lists....making the over all search process quicker.
I don't think that 4000 contacts are problem for touch pro... I had a blackberry before and tested it with more than 5000 contacts... it was working like a charm with instant matching. I think that maybe windows mobile doesn't make an index to search in it really fast like blackberry does. Touch pro is by far more advanced from blackberries but I can't believe it can't do that.
dude.. considering you have 5000 contacts i don't think your problem is the device
btw, the fastest CL app i know of is iContact, which i'm using..
dunno how you can run 5000 contacts fast enough to work with,
Yes but how can you explain the fact that blackberry can handle more than 5000 contacts just fine? My Boss has 12000 contacts and works fine.
if your blackberry is as crazy as your boss.. i wouldn't be surprised that is does
j/k...
a blackberry doesn't initialize your contacts everytime your contact list loads. it preloads it.. that's why it would be faster.
Is there a way to preload contacts in wm ?
Hi ,im running icontact burt edition and in the configuration there u can choose to exit the app on action and such, when u dissable those options, every time u call or exit icontact it will still be running in the backround, that might help speed things up,sorry cant test it though,i have like 85 contacts
It is still a problem as iContact has to load all 5000 contacts after the system loads.
I don't know of a way to cache the contacts which would be the only way to make it as fast as needed for such an amount of information.
I would suggest tho, that you go to the iContact thread an offer burt to add the option of multilisting of contacts for people with such an amount of contacts... maybe he'll do it..
Are you displaying sim contacts and regualar contacts? you can disable showing sim contacts which may speed it up some if so.
WTH?! 4000 contacts?!? LOL How about deleting some? jk I will tell you with about 400 contacts on a few different Windows Mobile phones & it was dog slow sometimes so I can't even imagine 4000. One reason I had so many was from my old-school days with a Nokia I have each contact location as a separate contact (like Bill Cell Bill Home Bill Work) vs the specified field available now. Once I synced with my Outlook then edited them on there, cleared them all off my phone & sync'd back it was MUCH faster since I had 1/3 the contacts. I do know that it was always much slower after 1st booting up the phone than after I had been using it awhile, unless I left too many programs running which sucked up the memory. On my old WM5 2125 there was a cache registry change I made that helped a TON but sorry I don't recall what it was offhand.. I think the tweak utils have it as an option under 'performance'. And yeah like joel2009 suggested, turn off SIM contact acces if you can migrate them to phone memory. I found accessing SIM contacts is WAYYYYY slower. Besides you have fewer contact fields using the SIM.

Firstname, Lastname in Contacts

Yes, I've searched and found 3rd party applications (for other devices, not Raphael. Not sure if they'll still work)
BUT, I swear when I first bought my phone last week, I was playing around with the phone, AdvancedConfig/DiamTweak/TF3DTweak, SOMETHING, and I KNOW I saw an option to choose Firstname, Lastname and vice versa. For some reason I can't find it now.
My question: Is there an option on the phone to change this or was I dreaming when I found it?
If not, what's the easiest way to set this option?
Thanks.
When you go to insert a contact via outlook or to edit existing contacts its the 6th option down "File as" and you can choose First/last or Last/First.

I knew I saw something. Thanks
Is there a way to convert all of them at the same time? Going one-by-one for 200+ contacts is extremely time-consuming.
I'm not a miracle worker haha. Maybe someone else can help I have no clue.
amazingly i was searching for this exact same thing yesterday.
unfortunatly there is no easy way apart by using outlook, BUT there is an app for the universal called FILEASCONTACTS.cab whih adds a sub menu to your contact screen which swops the display name to firstname. lastname.
i have tested on touch pro works fine. you will still have to do every single contact but at least you wont have to edit and then select file as...
hope this helps.

Contacts - "File as"

Ive just had to hard reset my Elfin, but I had all my contacts backed up using "Microsoft MyPhone" (which is awesome)
When it downloaded all my contacts back to my phone, its saved them all with their last names shown first.
What I want to know is if there is a way to change them all to show with the "First" name first in the contacts list, without having to go through and change them all manually?
come on, surely someone must know some sort of registry hack or a stupidly hidden setting?
plz :'(
....in my opinion you have to go through your contacts one by one, but if you really like to, there's Resco Contact Manager that can customize your contacts in the manner you want...cheers!
when i got bored today, i went through and changed them all ¬_¬
lol Cris, there is no reg hack to change it.... make sure you do a PIM backup next time!!! (is ok, before i learnt about PIM, i had to do the same with 500 duplicate contacts lol... bummer!!)
yeh, I always used to use PIMbackup, but then when I tried out "MyPhone" which is actually pretty cool, I thought I would use it from now on.
but yeh, i think im gonna go back to pimbackup ^_^
(but I will also still use myphone, because it means i can edit my contacts on the net etc, which is easier than on a tiny virtual keyboard
Bit late but here's what i use
Shubaroo Contact changer
:O
i havent tried it, but this is EXACTLY what ive been trying to find.
:3
well, at least I have it for next time
I have the same frustration and created my own program to fix the contacts, even allowing for your own custom formats and using the Company Name field. I hope you find it helpful!

any way to prtevent activesync from eating contacts?

hope this is in the right place here...
so, this weekend i finally managed to sync my contacts list into oblivion. thank you very much, activesync.
what i did is, i reinstalled my desktop system, which i do more or less regularly to keep it lean. some time ago i bought outlook 2007, specifically to have a backup in case i lost my phone (touch hd) or something. now after i had setup the new installation of win7 rc and wanted to sync, it wouldn't. apparently, the last activesync partnership was in the way. so, what else to do, but end the former partnership (and please do tell me, if i'm wrong here!). i was greeted with a warning telling me "if i continue, all data synced FROM that partner source" (don't know the exact text, i interpreted this from the German text) will be deleted. i didn't see any alternative (like telling stupid activesync to keep them, just end the partnership, again please tell me when there is such an option somewhere), thought "OK, the original source for the contacts was the phone, not outlook" and continued. afterwards, my contact list was empty except for 10 contacts that wouldn't sync in the first place.
question 1 is: why the heck do they have to make these sync solutions so reliant on automatisms and eager to simply delete stuff? and then not include, or hide really good, options to prevent this? mobile center only allows to set who has priority to overwrite in case of conflict, activesync on WinMo has even less options. why can't they make them ask what exactly to do when they find discrepancies or conflicts, preferrably for each single case? frankly, i find this whole automatism business (in general, not only activesync) patronizing and dangerous if you don't pay close attention. i was wary, and still managed to delete my contacts. great!
i know, this is a rhetorical question, but i had to let off some steam...
now for more immidiate things:
is there a way to prevent this from happening via obscure options? i know i should have used something like pimbackup or at least made a copy of the pim.vol (which has its own difficulties), but you're always wiser afterwards.
speaking of the pim.vol file, is there a way to read that out by now? apparently the deleted contacts are still in there between a gazillion lines of symbols and i already rescued some, but this will take ages skimming through with a text-editor. i know someone wrote a perl script to parse the file, but that's beyond my competence.
and lastly, about those 10 contacts that were spared. those simply refused to sync towards desktop outlook. after each sync, i just got a message telling me he couldn't sync those. any ideas why, or what might be going on there? all of them have pictures, one or two phone numbers, and some have birthdays, nothing else. i think all or most of them had the pictures attributed from the album while zooming in, but i think so had others. some of the original photos are still there, some have been deleted by now, so i guess that's not the reason either.
any help would be much appreciated!
cheers,
mo
a good practice is to backup outlook on the pc
export to pst file include everything
