question about a car charger

my dad recently lend me his XDA IIs and i was wondering if i can charge it in my car using a usual ac chager (the one with the cig socket on the end and a circle ac with a yellow tip on the other) because the package came with an XDA IIs Connector Adapter.. a small connector that connects to the bottom of the xda and a plug where the xda 2 charger for the cradle on the other end..
can i use it to connect it with a normal AC plug for cars?
thanks a bunch!
ligther plugs from cars give DC i'm pretty sure not AC
and you may want to look at connectors in wiki
because ipaq's have the same plug as xda's
but different wireing and if the charger is made for ipaq's
then you need to mod them
you can buy xda2 2020i car chargers from any o2 shops for £19.99
jim
oh yeah cars give DC. sorry my bad.
my connector came with the xda IIs unit so i'm pretty sure its for the xda. i'm just thinking if i can charge it with a norml car cig plug DC.
well if the connector is the same
and + and - is connected the same
and it give the same volts
then you can use it
hmmmm + and - eh? hmm.. yeah.. i think it'll work. thanks!
It will not.
You need a 5 V DC outlet to your XDA II.
If you plug 12 V DC in you'll see what happens.

Charging XDA2 from in-car charger
It does work fine. Have done this using 4.5v/600mA regulated dc/dc adaptor with plug matching that used on original XDA2 mains adaptor - centre is positive, outer negative . I know that mains unit is 5v/2A but my car adaptor works fine in car and boat. Of course you're not feeding 12v directly to your XDA.
thanks for the replies! yep. i wont put in 12v.. thanks for the advice. i'll probably do the same with tomdick. nice one. thanks.

Alternative charging device

I wonder if that would work.
I have a mobile PNA TomTom Device in my Car with a 12V (input) Charger. I realized that the PNA can also be charged by pluging it into the USB interface of my computer. The Jack is also a miniUSB. So the charger plug has the same connector. Am I right to assume that the Diamond has to be charged by a 5V (USB current) miniUSB interface?
So it may be possible to charge the Diamond with exactely the same charger from my TomTom device?
I don´t have the current output of the PNA charging device in mind but i assume that it also has to be 5V?
Is there a possibility that both connectors are differently wired? Or is the miniUSB of both standardized?
i dont have your tom tom device, but there are two standards. 6v and 5v. Make sure you check properly
The charging device from my TomTom has an output of 5V so i assume the pin occupation is the same and i can use it to charge my Diamond (to come).
Just to make some of you guys happy. You CAN actually use the TomTom car charging device to charge your Diamond.
Plug fits and power output is exactely the same as the original HTC car charger!
For me it saved spending 20€.

Diamond AC Adapter, Adapter

The AC (Mains) charger for my UK version of the Diamond came with, of course), the adapter to fit UK power outlets. The transformer/charger is cleverly made with a separate adapter (the two/three prong part that actually fits in the power outlet) that can be changed to meet the country standard. Does anyone know where I can buy a US style adapter for the charger?
Did anyone know of a place where I can buy the Amercan adapter for the charger.

nokia have micro usb on some of their phones... i'm not 100% sure which models, 6500 Classic, 6555, 8600 Luna, 8800 Arte i think...
i use a car charger from the orange shop
I think the Toshiba because of its USB host is very picky about the charger it uses.
I have tried 3 now!
No name brand - 5v 500ma. Charges the phone just fine....but doesn't charge it quick enough, when navigating etc, it uses more power than it can charge
Blackberry 5v 500ma - lovely long cable length, better than the one above but same problem.....just drains a bit slower!
Samsung 5v 700ma - cable a bit short but charges the phone fantastically and works just fine!
Edit - Most phones from most of the major phone companies will support charging through micro USB. I wish they kept with mini usb.....micro is too flimsy!!
problem sorted
TG01, as well as nokia car charger, need to have the Rx and Tx pins shorted (connected together). so i opened my car usb charger and shorted the Data+ and Data- (Rx&Tx) pins and now everything is fine. i can use the usb cable as data cable, and when i connect it to my car usb charger, it starts charging!
hope this helps

your car charger should have a usb A connector like this

all you have to do is solder together pins 2&3
