I have MDA on T_Mobile UK and would like to upgrade to the latest rom but am confused by so many posts and different lanuages.
Could anyone just tell me
1) How to back my rom up incase of problems
2) How to get the latest english rom with the patch for more memory
3) How to install it
4) How to put all the t-mobile settings back ie GPRS etc
TIA
I have an MDA Compact from T-Mobile UK and I upgraded with the Q-Tek 1.11 ROM doing the rounds. I forgot all about the ext rom, but after I upgraded I restored a full backup I had created using Sprite Backup. I asked on this forum if restoring the backup negated the ROM upgrade in any way, but no-one seemed to know. Anyway, all the T-Mobile customisation came back and there have been no problems since.
AS soon as I can get a proper T-Mobile ROM I will upgrade with this.
hi mate after you restored your backup did you still have the qtek rom on the phone?
Yes. I get the qtek splash screen when I reboot, and if I go to 'Device Information' I get this:
ROM version: 1.11.00 WWE
ROM date: 03/14/05
Radio version: 1.11.00
Protocol version: 1337.42
ExtROM version: 1.01.128 WWE
Hi
Thanks for the reply how did you do the update was there any error messages that need to be ignored?
Also going to use sprite backup later have you got any tips?
Thanks
Not really - the whole thing was completely painless for me. Just follow the instructions to the letter.
Sprite Backup is great - I get it to automatically backup my PDA to an SD card each night so I always have an up-to-date backup.
Is there a trial version of sprite backup of do I have to buy it?
What instructions did you follow would be good to just do the same as you as it work rather than me stuffing it up.
Thanks

cool whats your phone like now? is it any better?
My MDA Compact is really no different after the upgrade - it would be useful to know exactly what should be better. I still can't send files to it using bluetooth.
Last night I re-did the ROM upgrade but this time I reinstalled all my apps and only used Sprite to restore documents etc. rather than the whole system. I think this is a better way forward, although on Sprite's website there is a section on how to correctly use Sprite Backup to restore after a ROM upgrade - have a look at http://tinyurl.com/dhzrp
I downloaded a T-Mobile UK CAB file which adds back all the T-Mobile settings without the garish pink colour scemes.
The instructions I followed are in this thread http://tinyurl.com/863qt - as you work through you will get an idea of what to do. In there somewhere I seem to remember someone posted a simple guide.
I have a qtek s100 rom buymobiles.net or something like that.
I used the program to hack your own rom for Extended storage - made a safe backup first to keep on my PC, just in case, hacked the ROM, flashed it back on the phone and it worked fine. There are a number of error messages that come up, but they're all to be expected, but do follow the instructions carefully and they'll put your mind at ease.
After the flash, you get 27mb of "Storage" instead of the previous 7mb. I've got a 1gig card so it doesn't make much difference to me, but it's useful, and worth doing at the start so you don't have to re-install everything if you do bite the bullet later and apply the hacked ROM.
The hacked ROM will be a copy of your own ROM, so nothing will change ROMwise, however, I foolishly overlooked the fact that that space comes from somewhere, in this case it wipes out the intellidialer and some other gubbins. I had no backup of these, but forunately it's all stored away on the XDA developers FTP. Someone more informed than I can correct me, but I think the only files you really need to reinstall are the intellidialer. Also squirrel out the cab that contains settings for your network, orange, O2 etc (i haven't found these, they're on XDA developers somewhere bu i forgot where! Drop me a line if you find them...)
Once you've done that - well, your phone is pretty much as it originally was, but with a bit more storage for free. not a bad thing.
I would flash the ROM and then reinstall rather than doing a Sprite Backup/Restore, since the registry will be in a very different state after the ROM flash. However, i don't think it'll do any harm.
Sprite Backup is certainly worth getting hold of, and keep a copy of your backup on an SD card and your PC in case your phone gets 'half inched'.
Hope that helps.

Try this site for uk gprs network settings

Hope this is hat you were after???
also......pls could you tell me .....
what rom version did you use for your upgrade?
how does the phone benefit from upgrading, in terms of "real world" use?
can you upgrade the storage to the stated 20+mb without upgrading the rom version?
can you use any rom from any country from any model and network or do you have to find an exact match eg UK T mob MDA compact?
sorry for the million questions...i have been reading this site for days and have ended up dazed and confused....
riz- there's a tool that will modify any normal rom to the extended rom version.
Extended Rom provides you with a pseudo "Storage Card" called "Storage". if you check the control panel > system > memory > storage you should have about 7mb. Using the extended rom hack, you will hack 27mb, at pretty much no cost to you; this is very useful for storing backups, installation files, photos etc, or anything that you never want to lose, since this space is usable by you, but won't be lost if the phone runs out of battery at any time (unlike the phone's normal memory, that will be wiped if there's a prolonged loss of power). Although using a big SD card is an even better way to do this, it's useful to get teh 27mb for free if it's available i think.
To get the 27mb, find the tool in the upgrading magician forum to hack any rom to bigrom http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=22582&highlight=anansky+rom.
Then, use the backup procedure described on that page to copy your own ROM from your phone to your pc. (you'll need an SD card and a card reader to do this). make a backup of that file
Then, use the prog to hack your own rom, then flash it back to your phone. Then your phone will have exactly the same rom as it had before, but better. You will lose some of the guff that was there before, but as i said perviously, this can all be downloaded from XDA forums.
So, I heartily recommended this just for the convenience of being able to store backups etc securely etc..

Are there any notable differences between your old rom version and the 1.11.?? I hear the 1.12 has been received with mixed reception…
thanks
Thanks for the cab settings!
Yeah, I guess you might as well patch directly to 1.12, although it's annoying that there's no update history etc to show what's been "improved"!.
I've just bitten the bullet and ordered the ebuyer SD wireless card (£26 delivered, 50% cheaper than ebay!). Hope it's ok, quite worried about it. But, when i did the Big Rom I had this in mind - although my main card is 1gig, obviously I'll have to pop it out to use the sd. so, I can keep essential apps in the 27mb, rather than feeling cramped in 7mb. Makes sense, no?

MDA on O2
Hi there,
I have just bought an unlocked MDA compact but can't get it to work on O2!
Can anyone help me?
Cheers,
Evan
I have an unlocked MDA connected to Tesco Mobile (actually uses the O2 network) and it works fine.
What exactly is the problem ?
Stu
Stu,
Thanks for your reply.
The MDA that I have seems to be unlocked as I have it on Orange at the moment, but, when I put my O2 sim card in it just says that there is no service!
Evan
The only thing that springs to mind is that Orange is on a different frequency to O2 so maybe you need to check the network preferences to make sure that it is set to automatic.

hi,
Having just purchased my M500 today im a noob to all things magician and m500!
Looking around this interesting site i notice a lot of talk about big storage. Sorry if this question has been asked before, but what is big storage?
Lets say i di the big storage thing......would i then loose my current orange rom on my device?
Is it easy to do? I've updated the rom on my c500 and that was straight fwd, can sombody explaain to m500 noob, but is willing to learn!
luvin the site.
I have a m500, and i have changed the original rom (as suplied with the m500) to bigstorage.
It wipes out the hidden partion that is used to brand the phone and increases the "storage" partion (which as default is around 7mb) to 27mb, the only downside is that the branding apps that are hidden are no longer on your device.
This means that when you hard reset the device you will have to manualy choose the files to install.
Imp
Thats a great explanation, thanks.
I've been messing around so far, and i think i understand the whole process. Coudl you just confirm this for me?
I have downloaded the big storage rom WWE.111 from the ftp and swapped the first 416bytes in hex editor with the first 416bytes from my rom which i've got from my ohone. i then load the edited WWE.111 big storage rom back into my m500 using the sd card method. An that will give me a bigstorage rom?
could somebody post the extrom of the m500 please ?
thanks
M500 Rom upgrade
I have been trying to upgrade it to 1.12 ROM, however when I used ntrw to write it onto my SD card, it said parameter incorrect, then when I flash my M500, it said Check Sum error. Any remedy? Also has anyone tried the Radio 1.13?
EggZenBeanz, thats right. should give you bigstorage....remember to ignore the error messages on your phone after you copy the rom from your sd card.
Dutty, there is already the orange m500 ext rom on the ftp site.
vz7, they are the same errors that i got when i big rom'ed mine (even tho i am still on rom 1.06 (not worried in upgrading the rom as yet)
as i said in the other post, i upgraded to 1.13 radio rom last night with no problem.
EDIT
if anyone wants my desciption of the orange ext rom (what each cab files do) give us a shout. i went though them one by one and isntalled them, to see if i wanted them or not.
Imp
Thankyou for clearing these things up. As the post suggested im a noob to all this, so i wanted to get it clear in my mind on top of reading all the tuts i could find.
So, when the rom hack has been applied and is working. i get 25mb extra storage, and i should loose all the clearview stuff etc.. Thats cool cheers.

I wouldn't mind a discription of the cabs on the rom as im just about to "Go large".
I wouldn't mind a list of what each file does either - I'd thought about doing a big storage hack on my m500, but there wasn't anything available last time I checked.
Presumably I can copy all the files for the storage area onto my SD card, and save them for later?
Where abouts is the ROM on the ftp site? I couldn't see anything that specifically mentions the m500...
Edit - OK, I think I understand now...I found a useful guide that I followed.
The only problem is, I've only got a 1gb sd card, so the hex editor won't open the rom image after I've dumped it! Is there any way around this, or do I need to get 128mb card?
The file of the descriptions is a bit scruffy atm, i will tidy it up and post it again soon here. (scruffy file attached to this post, you need to be logged into the forums to dl'ed it)
the path to the m500 ext rom is ..... i cant connect to the ftp atm.
I backed up the ext rom on my desktop pc, and put the vital cabs on a sd card that i have spare and keep in my wallet, just incase the rom resets.
I had a similar problem to dan13l when i dumped the rom, the ntrw.exe app is a bit of a pig, as it dumps a image of the sd card, and not of the actual rom.... i used a 256mb card, i suppose you could partion the 1gig card to around 256mb then try it out?
something that i didnt read was, when performing the rom dump, is that the sd card will be fully erased during dump. So back it up if you need the data on it.
one word about one of the cabs in the ext rom, OrangeUK_ActionE_Connection.cab is a odd one. It encloses some apps that i didnt like installed on my m500 but it has the gprs settings inside it, i have managed to pull these out and put them in there own cab. This helps prevent installing the annoying "action" programs
Imp
Thanks for that Impossible.
I noticed you've mentioned another MMS version in that text file, is there an updated mms app somewhere?
I found the ext rom on the ftp - that'll come in handy I'm sure.
There appears to be three ways of applying the big storage hack:
1) Apply a rom with Big Storage already hacked into it. This involves copying the first chunk of the standard rom using a hex editor and pasting it over the new rom. Correct?
2) Manually edit two bits of hex on a dumped rom, and reflash using the modified version.
3) Run a tool against a dumped rom to make the changes for you.
Now, I was working towards 2 until I had my sd card problem. I'm going to buy a 256mb card on my way home tonight and try with that. Am I right in thinking that if I dump my m500's rom, then apply the hex changes, that rom could be used for all m500's? As I understand it, option 1 is only relevent if you're applying a rom from one device to another (so a Jam to an M500, for example)?
So, in theory, once one of us has managed to modify the m500 rom (as you've done already, Impossible) then that rom image could be uploaded and used on all m500's? Also, if someone uploads an unmodified m500 rom, that could be used to revert back later if needs be...
Is all this correct? I think I'm starting to get my head around things.
the comments in the cab file description are a bit funny, its my own personal scrall that i found out over the test i did on the cabs, i think i found newer vesions on the ftp and installed these apps instead of the ones that orange comes with, and the "about" on the app confirmed this.
I will revisit the file soon and tidy it up making it more helpful.
i dumped my m500 rom (with the intention of keeping the 1.06 version that came with my m500) then i used mksBigStoragerENG.exe to patch it to bigstorage.
If anyones intrested in me uploading the 1.06 rom with big storage i will, but you have to remember that this has not got any orange branding on. the next step if you did use this rom would be to apply the choosen cab files to apply the settings/apps you want.
Also, i dont mind uploading the original rom (complete with the ext rom) but i think that was on there when i last looked at the ftp.
dan13l, i did just realise, even if you formated your 1gig card to a smaller size, the dump will clear that out
prehaps you could find a different hex editor? or even use the mksBigStoragerENG.exe app that I used to patch mine, instead of a editor (which reverts the rom file from your storage card size, back down to its original size of around 62mb)
Imp
Yay! It worked
Now I just need to reinstall everything.
I'll post everything I did later, got to go and eat something now!
Impossible - thanks for your help. Do you have the GPRS settings you extracted? I don't want to have to install the whole action engine thing...
Thanks again all.
All sorted - I managed to extract the gprs settings myself and create a cab.
FYI - the latest MMS app I found was dated May, and doesn't appear to work on the m500. I've not tried the March version yet.
GPRS settings etc are available on buymobilephones.net

Go to the link posted by sporkguy and download everything - that's the contents of your extended rom.
Next, go here: http://tinyurl.com/dhgoc
That's about the best guide I've found (although there are a couple of good ones on this site). Follow the steps on there to use the mksBigStorager executable to patch your rom.
I think it would be possible to upload a pre-patched rom image for the m500 to the ftp, and simply write that to an sd card (using the last section of the guide linked to above).
Please can you take a loo at this screen grab. What do i stand to gain from the storage hack? This piccy is pre storage hack.
Seems like T-Mobile have brought out their second maintanance release, supposedly including blackberry (jumps up and down, then realises blackberry is overhyped and overpriced).
Downloading it now from
http://t-mobile.iris-global.com/download_manager_mda_com.html
From the filename it appears the radio stack is still at 1.12, but I'll check once it's on.
Apologies if this is old news but I couldn't find any reference to it so far.
Technology hates me
Computer decided to reboot during ROM flash, feck knows why. Luckily it seems the TMO upgrade utility can restart its flashing procedure even though connection was lost.
Don't mind computer problems if they got some kind of sense to them, but randomly just restarting for the first time since I built it during the most ackward time just proves to me that computers are both evil and have a since of twisted irony.
Any improvement
Any improvement in this release?
I have been using the May update (BigStorage applied) since July fairly successfully.
I don't want to go through this if it's not worth it, so would appreciate advice from anyone who has applied it first.
Thanks
Well it's now got Blackberry support, whoopty f***in do. Also the radio version is still 1.12 so that has to be updated seperatly. In the 15min its been alive I havn't noticed any major changes but never really expected to.
Will post if I experience any problems or notice anything lifechangingly amazing about this new ROM. Would be nice if people using this ROM could do the same.
BTW anybody got a list of the ExtROM files and their comparitve uselessness? I went through the 1.12 ROM with a CAB manager but really can't be arsed this time round. Probably just install the whole lot through shear laziness. On second thoughts the BB client takes up 1.3Mb, so like f**k am i letting that onto my baby.
Hi Herman,
Why not go for BigStorage as you're not using the ext-rom. In the upgrade to radio 1.13 you can find how to do it from the shipped rom & on the ftp there's a bs 1.13 rom present, based on the Dutch TMO version so WWE, but use your own ext-rom files for specific UK settings.
Cheers, M
Cheers
Sorry, didn't really put it right. Already had the 1.13 radio downloaded and just installed it after, was no worries there. As for the BigStorage ROM, I've never particularly liked the idea, especially after reading problems people have had reverting back to the old storage configuration. I'm quite happy with my 512Mb SD card, wouldn't really use the extra space in storage anyway.
Cheers for your thoughts though mate
Ps had the new ROM up and running for few hours now, not noticed any glaring issues apart from that damn lack of BT serial ports issue but thats the radio not the OS ROM.
BigStorage
Finally gave in and overcame my fears. Applied the BigStorage hack to the latest TMO ROM as I read on here that it's reversible. Well seemed to have gone smoothly, although the increased hard reset time at the begining nearly made my heart stop.
If anyone wants I can upload the latest TMO official ship (1.13) with BigStorage hack, which doesn't need the SD card flashing method. Can do straight over USB.
Just post a msg if you want me to upload.

Hi parklife,
Still strugling to get it done? I gues herman3101 will upload a modified nk.nbf. Hope you succeed with it. At least I did with a patched nk.nbf. Can't upload myself for a few days as I'm not in the neighborhood of my PC. It's just me & my magician and I'm not complaining.
Cheers, M
Uploading now
Well I'm uploading the ROM up to the ftp now. I've included the updated nk.nbf as well as all the files needed to do a USB install. The files were small enough for me to think well why not. Once that's been uploaded I'll check the download section and find a link for you all.
Further to the guy who couldn't update his ROM, being kinda vague there buddy but I'll see what I can do. If you would be so kind as to follow these instructions pretty much to the letter then we should be OK:
- Hard Reset your MDA (press power button at same time as reset)
- After the selecting your time zone do a soft reset to avoid the customization process
- Plug your fresh MDA into your USB and wait for ActiveSync to bring up the connection wizard, select Guest partnership
- With your MDA still plugged in but in Guest mode just double click on the file you downloaded of T-Mobile and follow the onscreen instructions.
If you still have problems after following those steps then don't hesitate to reply but please be more specific so we don't have to guess what your issue is.
Will post a message when the BS ROM is up on the ftp
PS Well with the BigStorage ROM it obviously doesn't matter which ExtROM, but I would always go for the one from your provider so if you are with T-Mobile UK then go for their ExtROM because your guarenteed compatibility
Link to the ROM
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Magician/WWE_TMO_1.13 Official Release with BS.zip
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Magician/
The first is a direct link which probably won't wok because of the way I named the file and the second is a link to the folder which it is in.
I have to be honest I have no idea how to move this ROM into it's appropriate folder under Magician/BigStorage ROMs but o well. You'll find it where I've specified.
BTW the file attached is a list of my interpretations of what the 1.13 ExtROM files do. By no means conclusive or correct, its just what I've noticed them do during a stage by stage install and looking for clues inside the cabs.
herman3101,
Album & camera are bundled in the cab. That's the only flaw I noticed in your nice description.
Probably a moderator will move your file to the download section. Guess that's what happened to my BS rom as well. Thanks for uploading your files. It takes me ages to upload those files with my magician.
Good work & seems you're right on my track with decisions making for BS. Only I messed my first try completely and that's something I'm not wishing to anyone. Just waiting for the first hard-reset to finish is enough I think.
Regards, M

hey herman, thanks for the upload, i got it to work on my M500. But i would like to add something on the set up. You need to do some extra steps to avoid the the ID ERROR 120. Ok here ya go:

-edit the RUU.conf with notepad, add [CHECKCEID_TYPE]=1 on the top
-copy MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe from ftp to the extract folder
-press power, camera and rest on your magician
-plug the magician to the USB
-AND execute the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe
-follow instuction
I waited for 4 minutes till i got my welcome mode.
for more info go check on the ampda how to's pdf file
thanks for herman3101, oltp, and ampda, now i have the perfect rom that i will keep for some time.
Hey Parklife,
Glad you finally made it. Don't think the Dutch rom is any different from the UK rom, both are 1.13 WWE TMO. Except for the ext-rom ofcourse. Managed to get my time on 'h:mm am' too with the english (us) region.
Good thing is that everyone can choose of three methods, to get this BS rom, whichever way they're feeling most comfortable ith and that has been different before.
Cheers to all of you.

hey, one more question for you guys...after i install the Camera_Wizard_Magician_T-Mobile_WWE_RC28_Customize.CAB, my magician clock changed into 24 hours clock format. I tried to change it into 12 hours format on regional setting - date like oltp said, but could not change it back to the 12 hours format...have you guys had the same problem? no biggies, i just not use to the format.
Parklife,
I noticed that the clock changes only after I alter the 'time style' on the time tab (sample changes immediately) go to another tab and then touch the clock on my programbar. Changing the region seems not necessary. Yesterday I fiddled a bit with the settings, now I used a more structural approach.
Cheers, M
I have searched read and looked all over the board.
The problem very specific.
I have a stock MDA Compact with the T-Mobile Software installed.
I want to convert the phone to its O2 equivalent with all the bells and whistles.
Whats the best way to go about this?
Is there a UK O2 rom i can simply upgrade the unit with?
What extended Rom software do i install?
Thanks.
Backup your important data, hard reset your phone, and let the phone have its OS reinstalled. As you just finished the security (pin) setup page, soft reset your device (e.g. when it pop up a window saying that it will install etc etc software).
Get the O2 ROM from the xda-dev ftp, and install everything in the Exetended ROM, and you should have your O2 eqv.

I got the files from the ftp yes. Unfortunately the Extended rom is read only, how do i edit the attributes?
i can also install from an SD card, but i want to have these files permanently in the ext rom.
thanks again Hanmin
You should execute the O2 cabs from your sd-card. Or permanently flash you rom with the O2 rom to get them in your ext-rom. The ext-rom is read only & can only be written by flashing your rom or turning it into BIG Storage. To flash your rom to O2 you need MAUgradeUT_noid & the description from http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=MagicianRomUpgrade
Regards, M
Doh, of course how could i forget, the very definition of ROM, read only.
Well i executed the Autorun from the SD Card, but its installed all the T-Mobile stuff again, (which still resides on the ROM).
I would execute the cabs individually from the sd but im not sure which are meant to be installed for my network.
After a few errors running the upgrade previously your instructions have now worked.
albeit i had to put the phone in bootloader mode after step 5 and before step 6

I want to replace the tmobile rom with an O2 set of files (an O2 ROM?).
How do i go about this? ( ie Keep the ext_rom )
I gather its the same as flashing a big storage ROM to the phone excepts the nbf will have the O2 files i want instead?
Thank you all for your time

It's only possible if you find a dumped rom or a shipped-rom which is the version as the one you had before. Maybe your provider has a shipped-rom on its web-site? Or take a look at the ftp and maybe you're lucky to find one. If you find a shipped-rom it's easy, connect via usb & start the exe file. If you've got a dumped rom you need to change the header of the downloaded with your own device's header, write everything to sd & have the bootloader update the rom.

The have the autorun starting files on sd, you need to edit it a little. It got hard-coded path & filenames and some instructions to prevent userinput (thus locking the keys & keyboard).

Now you got me puzzled. Do you want the O2 CE-rom or just the ext-rom & keep the TMO network settings? Cause the CE-rom isn't much different for all providers, it's the ext-rom that does the customizing & changes the network settings.
So if you want an O2 ext-rom with TMO network settings I suggest you first write down your TMO settings for gprs, voicemail, mms & sms & then flash it to O2. You might even try to update the ext-rom only. It's possible to update to radio by supplying the radio.nbf only to the romupdateso I think it's possible to update the ext-rom by itself too. Can't remember the nbf name, but nk.nbf is your CE-rom & that makes only one left, isn't it.
You can use WinCECabmanager (10 trial executions) to see what's in all those cab-files.
Good luck to all of you, M
I think frantyk meant that he wants to keep the original t-mobile (mda compact) ROM while installing the customization (ext rom), such that the 'OS' is relatively the same while having O2 stuff in it.
Anyway, I think if you downloaded the correct O2 ext rom, you can install everything one-by-one manually, it shouldn't give any conflict. I'm not sure why, when you run Autorun, it install t-mobile stuff, probably the autorun is pointing to the ext rom.
You can unlock the the wizard ext rom unlocking cab, delete everything in your ext rom (MAKE A BACKUP FIRST), and copy the O2 stuff in. You should able to 'lock' the ext rom back in place. Then hard reset your device, you should have everything, including O2 stuff installed. I unlocked my ext rom before, but I can't remember if this is the one I used. --- IMPORTANT --- I've unlocked my ext rom with this cab before, but my device is a HTC Charmer, which is very compatible with Wizard. I'm NOT SURE IF IT WORKS ON MAGICIAN. You may want to look around the forum to find a ext unlocker for Magician, just to be safe.
The Magician ext-rom can't be unlocked, only flashed or turned into BIG Storage. Though I think you can flash the ext-rom only, the safest way it to flash the whole rom with an O2 shipped-rom. This will be the only way to get the correct ext-rom being executed after a hard-reset. Indeed the autorun contains a path & is unusable from sd without changes.
BTW not many people want the O2 stuff, I guess it's about network settings only. Which are on the web too, can't remember where :-(
M
What i want is the Standard CE software (ie no branding what so ever) which i think i have achieved with in flashing the phone with Shipped ROM WWE_11300_550_11200 - although it has the Qtek boot logo.
Im also using some of the Cabs from Extended Rom O2Mini_WWE_1.11.922
Why does this Ext_Rom not have and network auto config for O2 UK? Where can i get and Auto config cab for UK O2?
I want to use the phone mainly with an O2 Sim card, so i need al the O2 settings for GPRS and that, 2nd priority is having the T-Mobile GPRS settings cab for when i occasionally change chips but this is less essential that the O2 settings.
What does WWE stand for? My guess was XXEuropean?
Thanks
OK, unbranded CE is either the mentioned QTEK or any BIG Storage rom. Don't worry about the splash that can changed very easily.
WWE means World Wide English.
The network settings can be found here http://www.cctvsafe.com/support/phone_settings.htm
Cheers, M
hey.. what ports do you use for proxy, if you do use one..
Hi all, im new here in terms of posting but have been reading for a while now.
I have a Plam Treo 750 vodafone which is unlocked. I installed vodafone wm6 update on it a month ago... but since then i've stopped using the phone due to this:
I'm used to fast systems such as my linux desktop and i was really frustrated how the wm6 interface is slow. Even with few progs installed the phone gets very sluggish and hanging up calls even takes time.
Now here's my question:
Is there any way to speedup WM6 ? or install a custom WM6 that is faster ?
I tried Rest of the World wm6 ROM but it wouldn't install on my phone when i opened the installer it would say not compatible.
Would this speedup my phone ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=345748
What should i do... i really love the phone and its features... but i just want wm6 to run faster so that the phone is usable.
thanks

Got it right mate! Nice research!
can anyone please help me install "WM6 AKU0.7.0 WWE Cooked ROM Lite"...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=345748
I've never done something like this before and have no idea how to begin.. I can't find any guides only random text throughout the posts so i don't know what applies to me and what doesn't. I'm really worried about damaging my phone by doing something stupid.
My Phone:
750v from vodafone UK with vodafone wm6... but it was unlocked by previous owner... since i can use it on other phone providers in other countries. I have usb cable and 1Gig microSD.
The installation notes of the rom say i need to install Hard-SPL then flash radio then flash OS. Now for Hard-SPL do i need to install it if my phone is unlocked because i read some confusing posts there... then what is a radio flash do i need to do that ? how does it affect radio...
then after that i need KaiserCustomRUU.exe to flash the rom... i only found a post about CustomRUU with "RUUWrapper.zip" is that the same thing... sorry but i'm really confused and need someone to guide me through the process for my first time if possible.
You are ready to go. Download the ROM from Chaimd on the 750 Upgrading thread, rename it to CHEEIMG.nbh (the ROM file name the 750 expects to see) and copy it to the root of your miniSD card.
Insert the miniSD card, hold down the bottom right button on the side while you do a reset and the bootloader will start. And away you go.
Make sure you backup (backup program is best) all your data - it starts you out with fresh device and default settings. ROM works perfectly - fast and lots of extra storage.

Thanks txzman for the info. But just to be sure i understand... you're saying i don't need to install Hard-SPL from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334100&page=1
Nor do i need to flash the radio ?
UPDATE:
ok i didn't install Hard-SPL or flash the radio.
I tried to install the rom straight away... i put the ROM on my memory card root and renamed it, then did the reset with sidebutton...and i got to the wierd colors screen and nothing happenes after that.
It says on the screen:
Palm Tr
IPL-0.20
Palm Tr
SPL-0.24.0000
In the end nothing happens... this method doesnt work. i tried using KaiserRUU.exe update method but also that doesn't work it gives me and "Error [260]: Connection" even though activesync is connected... please tell me what i can do to install this rom.
i posted the question in the thread for the cooked rom. i guess this is not the right place to ask thus no one is replying.
sd needs to be formatted fat32 - re-format card to fat32, re-copy cheeimg and try again. Google or search here for the available formatting apps.
INSTALL HARD-SPL FIRST....
i can't stress this enough...

If your Palm Treo is unlocked, you still need to install Hard SPL but just run step 1 and ignore step 2 & 3. This will allow you to flash your Treo with ROM's other than your provider as well as modified/cooked ROM's like the one made by Chaimd.
Hi all, I am about to upgrade my fathers Touch Pro (EU version) from the stock WM 6.1 Fr to Taels 6.5 version.
Nevertheless I need help on 3 very important questions, and that is why I come to you.
I have already installed the HSLP so that part is done, and I have used PIM backup for the contacts, sms, calendar, email and logs.
1) So the question is, will a PIM backup done in WM6.1 be able to restore everything in WM6.5 or will there be some incompatibility issues?
2) As you might know TAEL ROM is an English ROM, but the Touch Pro has an AZERTY keyboard. Is there a way to correctly map ALL the hardware keys on the phone? If yes, how?
3) Finally, if my father does not like the phone the way it is, can I go to the HTC website and download the latest official WM6.1 ROM for the phone and just flash it even with the HSPL on. I don't really need to remove it as it is not in the guarantee any more, but I would like to know if I need to do something to be able to flash the old ROM in.
Thank you all for your help.
Please urgent answers, as I am supposed to do everything today.
1. In my experience, pim back up could be buggy with 6.5. It's been a while since I used it (probably 1.5 yrs), but I highly recommend backing up in multiple ways. Do the pimbackup, also just copy pim.vol to the sd card (that's the method I use). If you have sk tools, use it to backup the pim info. You can also install myphone (or just windows live) and back it up that way. Seriously, you can't have too many backups, in case of a snafu.
To restore pim.vol, right after the flash copy it (don't move it, copy it) with total commander back to the device root and then immediately do a soft reset. I don't know why, but sometimes it doesn't update properly if you screw around for a while before resetting the device. Or, just restore with pimbackup. It will probably be slow.
2. Dunno.
3. Yes, you can flash whatever you want with hard spl. Don't bother over-writing it with the stock spl if you decide to go back to stock (unless it's for warranty reasons).
Hi Farmer Ted, thanks for your responses.
I've done the procedure yesterday and I can answer my questions if anyone has them too.
1) So regarding the first one, PIM backup will recover all your contacts, logs, mms and sms. I have had an error when it came to e-mail, but you can configure that anyway and through imap4 you should not loose any.
2) The second response was given by some people already on XDA, and that is to go to the regedit of the phone. Thankfully tael had one already pre-installed and now I'll just copy paste what I've found:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD\CurLang
change the value in hex 40C
Then save the changes and reboot the phone.
Thankfully all the fn keys work as intended.
PS: The software keyboard will not change unless you install a different one on it.
Regarding my last question, I still did not fully understand the answer. If I go to HTC, download the latest official ROM for the phone, can I flash it straight away, even though I have HSPL 1.9 olex in the phone?
Note: I don't need to remove it for warranty reasons, but I don't want to brick the phone by having it on when installing the official WM6.1 release.
Thanks for all your help so far.
Just so you know, I have flashed the stock ROM after I downloaded it from the HTC support site and have not experienced any issues without having to flash stock spl
Thank you very much (+1 thank), this information was very useful to me.
