other usb devices - General Topics

hi
I enjoyed ur intresting article. Do u think is this possible we connect other usb devices such as usb wirless network cards to XDA in this manner?
Thanks alot
Masoud

the xda2 is a usb device not a usb master so it cant use usb devices
maybe if one get the backpack and then get a cf to usb card it's possible

yes i suppose it would work
of cause you'd have to have a driver for those cards
plus you would also have to have drivers for
any usb device you connected to it which dident use the default
mass storage like sd flash cards does
also not sure if it would run the full 12Mbs
and you would of cause have to get the backpack to get CF

The question is, why XDA2 doesn't suport the USB. Graphic accelerator used in XDA2 supports USB host!
i'm not sure but i dont think that the connector in the buttom of the xda2 is the usb interface from ati 3200
of cause i could be wrong
but i think that it would be easier for htc to modify the button connector control from the xda1 which dont have the ati 3200 chip

How to make nexus s support USB OTG -- somebody already success

any body successed ?
Bad news, there is no way to enable OTG
Because NS uses usb switch chip FSA9280A, and this chip doesn't support OTG.

I made a mistake, there is a FSA9480 in the phone, so it support OTG in hardware.

I haven't had any luck getting this to work.
I tried hooking up a USB mouse, game pad (wired 360 controller) and a USB flash drive. However nothing happened when I plugged them in.
I connected them using a micro USB to USB adaptor and an externally powered USB hub.
Since the Galaxy Nexus appears to support OTG without issues, I'm guessing it's not working on the NS because of some sort hardware incompatibility.

first of all, are you sure your kernel configure support OTG ?
and then, the "micro USB to USB adaptor " is type-A(pin 4 connected with GND) ?
btw, the cup(S5PC110)'s datasheet shows it support OTG.
Ah, I did not realize there were different types of USB OTG adaptors. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.
I did a bit of digging around and it seems that it's not too difficult to modify the adaptor from type B to type A, provided you have basic soldering ability (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092493). Perhaps I'll give that a go when I get some free time.
Has anyone else tried this feature on NS with any success?
This only applies to the Nexus S i9020.
i9023 seems to user another USB chip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431151) for which are OTG kernels available:

Bluetooth doesnt work needs drivers i think. But my usb gamepad works on most games, emulators just not on some racing games. Plugs straight in to the otg cable.

Does anyone know if connecting a duel male usb from pc to dock usb port works?

if anyone has a cable can u try it? i dont have any double male usb cables but ill buy one if it works
What are you trying to achieve by doing that?
Doubt it will work at all, USB is for devices, the TF and the PC will both try to install each other as a device and fail more than likely, Android doesn't have USB drivers for a PC, and vice versa
Just use the normal charger cable to PC for data transfer

About USB OTG

Hi guys, a friend of mine have and old Samsung android based phone.
I was thinking about give it a better use as an android tv box/media player, but I have a few questions, main concerning USB OTG.
I could use a USB OTG Y cable, so I could charge the phone while using it, and still have the OTG... could I connect an USB hub to the OTG so I could use a USB mini keyboard and a mouse?.
My other problem is the micro usb port and the HDMI conection to the TV. I could use a cable to connect the phone to the TV but then I couldn't connect the USB OTG. It's possible to connect HDMI and still use USB OTG???

I live on latin america. A chromecast is way more expensive than a bunch of cables.

Well... just so you know you can't have the phone charging and in OTG mode in the same time. Not even with adapters. This is because the current in USB can't flow in both directions in the same time (because there aren't enough dedicated wires)
